During today's episode of Morning Joe live at the Ronnie Ray-Gun Presidential Library, Joe Scarborough wraps things up with his "political round table" and asks his panel whether Joe Wilson should apologize or not. Peggy Noonan looked like she was hitting the sauce first thing in the morning. Lawrence O'Donnell did a great job talking about why Joe Wilson needs to apologize to South Carolina for single handedly managing to put their state's racist history right back in the spotlight again. And surprise, surprise, racist Pat Buchanan didn't think Joe Wilson needs to apologize and then ended up the segment by exalting the sun revolving around St. Ronnie's magical Irish head.

..isn't it time to give it a rest Pat? joe wilson from South Carolina should at the least be censured, should at the least resign his office or be bounced out by the good people of South Carolina. He called the President a "liar" when the President told the truth, during a Joint Session and while the President was speaking. Where is there any justification or salvation in that type of behavior?
I saw a lot of this yesterday and couldn't figure out why we were paying homage to Ronnie. Why that day? The audience looked like hostages at a funeral. Peggy was more dopey than usual but I laughed out loud when they were talking about Joe Wilson being a racist and then asked Pat for his opinion. Who better to ask than a real life racist?
I'm just curious, do all president's get to keep their Air Force 1 plane for their library and their limo too? Couldn't they recycle them for the next president?
They aren't quite as old as Ronnie was when he first ran, but they were ready to retire. I suppose it's better that the plane be used as a static exhibit rather than broken up for scrap.
Obama has the same aircraft used by Dubya. I'm sure the limo is new.

Comparing what Joe Wilson did to the British parliamentarian system, as Noonan does, is complete bullshit and a right-wing talking point.
First of all you cannot call the Prime Minister a liar in the British system during question period. You would be called out on a point of order. Maybe even kicked out. They even go so far as make sure they always say "the honorable gentleman" when refering to someone else.
Secondly, the battle royale that goes on during question period in the British systems is completely different than when say the Prime Minister of Britian is giving an actual speech to the House of Lords. No one would dare to call out and call the Prime Minsiter a liar during the speech like Joe Wilson did when Obama was giving a speech.
Typical of Noonan to find a way or an excuse to sweep this behaviour under the carpet... she does this all the time... "why worry about those interogrations. Sometimes not worth looking back." Noonan is an idiot and a political hack.
Just a day or so before, Scarborough had used that same BS about how they do it in Britain. Several others have used it as well. It seemed their point was that Wilson wasn't as bad as some over there. Of course that doesn't make it right even if it were true. I would have loved to have seen Bush have to directly answer questions and defend himself. He would not have been able to do it. The President is not the equal of the Prime Minister as a Head of State. The Prime Minister is the head of the party which has won control and therefore is the head of the government, but NOT the Head of State. You wanna see the Head of State over there, you have to see the Queen.
If we had an elected official who presided over both houses of Congress, that would be equivelant to their PM, but we don't. Our President does not play the same role in Congress that the PM does in the Parliment.
The Prime Minister and the US President are both the highest elected officials for their respective countries, but, of the two, only the President is a Head of State. The Head of State for Great Britain is the Queen. The Head of State for America is the president.
When the Queen, as Head of State, addresses Parliment, you can bet your sweet ass that she is shown respect by all members of Parliment. No yelling, no disrespect - even from hard-core anti-monarchists.
If someone wants to yell at Obama the politician, that's one thing. But, when Obama addresses Congress and the people as our Head of State, he is due deference because he represents the Office of the Presidency and the country.

We’re finally starting to hear a trickle of truth from beltwaydom about a major force behind opposition to President Obama. That’s good. It’s a few months late, but it’s good. Unfortunately, this truth includes the use of “R-words” that chafe like sand in swimwear and don’t accurately describe the force.
The force is fueled by bigotry, practiced by bigots who believe bigoted concepts.
“Bigot”, in all its forms, is the word to use. “Race”, in all its forms, isn’t. “Race”, etc., spreads the myth that humans can be divided into categories that were created by bigots for no other reason than to suppress targeted groups of people. “Caucasian”, “Asian”, “African-American”, etc., have no scientific basis. There’s no gene for race.
Ironically, bigots rely on the concept of race being accepted as fact and I just cringe when I see them unwittingly assisted by those opposing bigotry. If Barack Obama had addressed “bigotry” in place of “racism” in his powerful campaign speech, he would have inched us a bit closer to leaving all things “racist” in the dustbin of history where this destructive concept belongs.

There is something very rotten really going on here. There is a real effort going on that although we cannot stop a black man from being elected, we can at least try and de-legitize him as president. I heard one of the commentators saying this is going on, but that it was the same as the Democrats did with Bush because of Florida. You cannot even compare the two given the Obama won in such a huge landslide. It is more like they are trying to de-legitimize Obama because they cannot accept a blackman if office. They still cannot believe it. And asking Buchanan to comment on racism is a joke. That guy is a huge racist and he does not even know it.

I feel sorry for her at times. Then other times, when Joe is absent, I've seen her all too quick to repeat the same rightwing idiocies that Joe does. For example, saying that the New Deal prolonged the Great Depression. She's in her 40's and by now, probably a millionaire. Mika is there because she wants to be there.
I never watch Joe Scab, so all I see are clips like this. He is an arrogant, self-absorbed, pig of a man, so the leap to co-worker abuser was an easy one for me to make.
Quit as a congressperson, get a show on TV or radio, works well for Joe and Pat. This way you can still spit out talking points crap. Why is Uncle Pat even on air anymore? If you are trying to prove racism, his picture is all you need for that.

He begins the piece with the story of S.C. Congressman Preston Brooks and the near fatal beating he delivered to Massachusetts Senator Charles Sumner on the floor of the Senate in 1856. He dredges up a long forgotten jab at South Carolinians that circulated among "wags up north" after the Civil War began:
I have family in South Carolina and I can tell you that it is a state filled with natural beauty and many good people. Sadly, it also has some of the most venal and vile politics to be found anywhere in the nation. The city of Columbia, S.C. announced today it will not pay its employees for 6 of the 8 remaining holidays this fiscal year. The $1,800,000 saved will build up cash reserves. This is necessary because of an "accounting problem".

Funny enough to see that old shot of Reagan in the Ronald Reagan pub in Ballyporeen, Co. Cork, Ireland when he was running for President that second time. I was there that day, and I can attest that nary a drop of that pint passed his lips. People say that the Secret Service nixed the idea of him having a drink of his pint because they had not had a chance to check the pipes from the kegs in the basement to the taps in the bar...
