McCain is a pretty good sport, looks like.

Isn't it past grampie's bedtime?

gonna run for president ever again.

Doing comedy on the convalescence circuit, yes.....POTUS, Hell no!

the slept like a baby joke was cute.

Too bad he's such a creepy old fart.

Sounds like he's still got someone writing his speeches for him.

Yeah, that was a great joke. He may have been a dick during his campaign but he's a funny guy.

I think that was Bob Dole's line after '96.

I remember hearing the 'slept like a baby' joke on Poker After Dark, and Id heard him tell the Arizona joke before...but what do you want from the guy? Ive seen professional comics repeat the same jokes for years and years.

He's a good man and the only reason a lot of people in this channel think less of him is because he ran for POTUS and wasnt a Democrat.

But he's still a politician and has to say nice things about Palin, even though people like her have been the slow death of her party.

Here's my question...Im going to throw out three names and you pick who you think is the future of the GOP (not strictly the name, but I mean the principles)....

1. Sarah Palin
2. Bobby Jindal
3. Ron Paul

Discuss...and remember...GOPs arent evil (although their leadership could use some serious retooling).

... would spare us from seeing these idiots on talk shows during a campaign, unless their opponent got equal time.

)O(

Some conservatard who has his own radio talk-show wrote a column condemning the Fairness Doctrine, as Orwellian (I doubt he knows what it means) attempt to silence conservatards.

I presume he would take the phrase Equal Under the Law to equate with judicial activism.

He sneers that "flaming liberal" Keith Olbermann, and the "less obnoxious" Rachel Maddows wouldn't be affected because they're on cable. But then he doesn't meantion that the same is true of most of the FAUX News pundits.

I wonder if the "Maverick" will oppose Melty-Face McConnell while the Repug plan to filibuster every bill coming out of committee?
PHHFT! McCain will fall in line just like he has the last 2 years.

He has been nothing but a class act. Good for him. If only he had run a campaign like this he might have given President-elect Obama a better challenge.

Then again if ifs and buts were candy and nuts oh what a christmas it would be.

....exciting the extremely ignorant yahoo's with hate her speeches on Obama all over the Nation, I'll never forgive his decrepit ass for allowing.

And

And he continues to be dishonest about her and about her impact on the ticket.

Everyone knows she is not only unqualified, she just isn't an intelligent person. Plus, she is a national disgrace, very much like Bush.

)O(

Candy and Nuts sound like the name of a gay Christmas carol.

So "top advisors" and stories like that just happen in campaigns?? Does that mean calling someone a terrorist and letting campaign crazies scream for the opponents assasination is just something tha thappens in campaigns as well?

And torture just happens, and government looting, and deregulation, and preemptive wars, etc.

Thank goodness so many first-time voters decided NOW was the time to get up, register and do their duty.

Apparently he hasn't been advised to drop the quoties. I was enjoying the interview until then when I skeeved to see that gesture again. Didn't Stewart call those "dick fingers"?

McCain is heading out to do more campaigning for some rethug senator, palin is ramping up the rhetoric, limbaugh is already blaming obama for the recession and looming depression. These people are rabid and desperate.

McCain is weak: he does not stand on principle. He's like a chameleon, changing his colors for every situation. Palin keeps talking about ayers. I listened to a few minutes of her on larry king. She says she's still concerned about ayers, but that chapter is closed, but it's ok to still talk about ayers, but she trusts obama... This woman needs psychiatric care.

"Off Message?"

It's not that Palin went off message, like she was so disobedient,... it's what that message was, which was a racist, fear mongering, dishonest tirade.

That's why I can't watch stuff like that, it's so blatantly dishonest,... say what you mean, mean what you say, how hard is it to do that?

or shopping sprees.

You can tell a lot by the shopping spreses. When tempted with power, even the power to shop, she cannot handle it.

but I still like the guy.

I like him, too,

Open Mike on Jay Leno Reveals McCain’s True Feelings

poor john can't catch a break. now the Nat'l Enquirer is running an article about cindy having an affair, complete with pictures.

You just KNOW she's a cougar, lol!!

There is something about McCain that never rings true with me.

His responses were rehearsed. The sleep-like-a-baby joke was rehearsed. Nothing about this guy strikes me as impromptu; it's all calculated and delivered as if he were acting.

IMHO, he's the perfect representation of what it is to be republican. In a word, disingenuous.

..Johnny Carson in his last couple of years on the air. No oomph whatsoever. Disinterested and distracted. Maybe an occasional 'golf swing' once in a while, but that's about it.

People always want to like John McCain (I know that I do), but the majority of observers of American politics are just relieved that he's finally calling it a night after such a long, tumultuous and often scandalous career.

Now try to imagine that he won...!

Agree, but then I never liked a 2faced lier. You can put a happy face on a pile of s.... ,you get the point.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but these talk shows are not ad lib. Both people read off of a teleprompter.

I was at Universal Studios several years ago, with out-of-state family members and we were given tickets to one of the shows. It was simply watching the host and guests read off the prompters. They don't even really look at one another very much. The illusion was broken.

So, the jokes may have been written for McCain by the Leno staff or by his handlers. The pro-Palin garbage was provided by the RNC. This guest appearance is no accident. McCain is promoting Palin, or campaigning for Palin, to rectify her image so that she can run in 2012.

Good luck with that RNC. Your own people fled to Obama in terror at the thought of a Palin presidency.

I like how he spent the summer bashing Obama for being a "celebrity" (you know, because people actually LIKED Obama), and yet every chance this star-fucker gets he's on the Tonight Show or SNL.

I wish him well. There are still bits of the "old" McCain that come through, but I think the bitterness of his defeat in 2004, and his feeling of his mortality, led him to a place in 2008 that I personally feel he now regrets having gone to.

He has an opportunity to REALLY make history now. Maybe he has diminished influence in his Party, but I think that by showing the nation this part of himself, he can gain great affection and support from the American public. If he can leverage that support to assist the President and the American People, and at the same time help to move the GOP away its more extreme positions, then he could well redeem his reputation and place in history.

I believe that the solution to problems is often the most simple. Economy is in the shitter? Don't hand out money to the people who've been selling us out, CREATE JOBS! McCain didn't need someone like Palin to secure the base. The base was never going to vote for a friggen black man with a funny Muslim name. He needed to come across as someone with ideas about how to undo this mess, and differentiate himself from Bush. He failed to do that, and he failed to win.

Since John is all about John returning to the dull task of senate duty is not too appealing . . . he already misses being the center of attention. Give it up John ... time to earn your pay for a change. No attendance in Congress since April!
