John King: Obama Needs To Worry About Being Too Liberal
By Heather Thursday Nov 06, 2008 11:00amJohn King on Anderson Cooper 360 playing with his magic maps and warning everyone about the dangers for Obama if he moves too far to the left. Forget that mandate he received with his blowout win, he needs to worry about the former Bush voters.
Yeah.
I'm so glad you clowns were all constantly warning us about the dangers of the GOP and George Bush moving too far to the right when you knew we were going to get one-party rule by Republicans. Oh wait, that didn't happen, did it? How many times did any of you in the media talk about whether Bush would be able to govern if he didn't embrace former Clinton voters?
This is the BS we're all going to get to listen to for the next four or eight years as they try to undermine anything Obama does or might do before he even starts.
Hey John King, here are a couple of maps that maybe you should pay a bit more attention to.

King has it backwards. The losing side does not get to stamp their feet and say, "You have to be nice to me!"
Or what? You'll take your ball and go home?
Fracking pay attention to Obama's speech - this isn't Red America and Blue America, it's America.
Shit...i can't find anyone anymore who voted for Bush!
It's like trying to find someone who owns a Hootie & The Blowfish album. EVERYBODY hates them, but NOBODY will cop to buying one of those millions of albums that Hootie sold.
after bush won, not once did you hear a pundit say that he had to govern from the middle...and he didnt
we will have to fight these buggers tooth and nail
btw, go to raw story and watch joe the full retard confuse welfare and unemployment
After 8+ years of pure Republican legislation and governance SOLELY from the right we're supposed to govern from the center. Fuck that. Our mandate is a HELL OF A LOT larger than the "mandate" Bush claimed in '04, and you didn't see HIM govern from the center now did you?
F That Mr. King, I hope Obama doesn't listen to these stooges...
Well - Bush never had one - they just said that to give their rabid followers a feeling of hubris and entitlement. Period.
*
He just has to be true to himself and the voting majority that put him in office.
F**k these f*****g fools and their f*****g magic teevee gadgets and their craven, wormtongued, limp-wristed warnings.
Message to Righties:
Sit down, shut up, eat your peas. The adults have work to do.
See how that works, assholes? The worst thing that will happen to you over the next four years is that you will be asked to GROW UP.
Considering who you're talking to, that's probably asking a lot.
Too bloody true.
Now go lay down and watch T.V. while we clean your shit up. There should be a list of dead wrong losers(Hannity, Billo, Savage, Buchanan(both), kid fucker Rush, etc.) never to be listened to.
i don't recall hearing this type of chatter when the republicans dominated the legislative branch under
BUSH and ROVE. actually the legislative branch is dominated currently by a MINORITY
I said a million times during the campaign, I wish Obama
was the most liberal of Senators. He will be a mainstream politician
with left leanings that will be hamstrung by fiscal constraints
imposed by the malfeasance of the past 2 administrations.
Read "The Wrecking Crew"
“The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.”
The above from Wall Street Journal online.
I'm not sure whether to laugh or just faint from incredualty.
I mean...are these asshats really serious? Murdoch and his minions have really lost touch with reality. Sad.
i think this was a comedy bit...the author couldnt have been serious...could he?
B-U-S-H.
Period.
those guys can afford to smoke some might powerful $hit.
?
George W. Bush - America's Benito Mussollini.
I can already imagine Keith Olbermann reading the above piece in Rupert Murdoch's voice.
These warnings are so predictable from the corporate media. They never work in reverse, of course-- I mean-- Republicans are never warned that being too right-wing will be a problem. It's like that's inconceivable.
They even accepted the Bush Administration's riduculous claims that their paper-thin 2004 "win" was a mandate. Why isn't this *actual* mandate described as such?
being a loser. It doesn't bode well for this tool though, does it?
little job security, post-election.
And this is why I find myself tuning these sorts of talking heads out.
Joe Scarborough went all funky this morning and his head almost exploded when Andrea Mitchell put him in his place. As soon as she verbally kicked his ass, I turned the whole thing off.
I just refuse to let these self appointed "experts" kill my election buzz. If it takes not watching tv at all, that's fine by me. I'm not coming out of eight years of hell and frustration only to step into the media's world of the same.
I never watch. Those 'News' channels are blocked on my TV. I have to manually punch in the channel number, if I want to see a 'News' channel.
I only know about a lot of these people solely because of teh internets, mostly this site. That's where I see them. And then generally I am unable to go through an entire 2-3 minute clip. It's like I'm unpleasantly stoned all of the sudden, and the minutes have turned to hours.
I don't necessarily agree with the "Turn your TV off" crowd, but I would certainly support a "Turn that goddamned TV 'News' channel off" crowd, since I'm already there.
53% to 46% is fairly close. We have a LOT of work ahead of us educating that 46% who thought things were going well.
that determines the winner, this WAS a landslide. In 2000 and 2004, Bush got in because of the final results of ONE state.
Historically...in a NATIONAL election...5% or better IS a blowout.
lots of limp tools out there.
Rid the corporate media of bias.
Just the facts, maam.
Keep opinion on the opinion page and lable it as such when idiots like John King are frothing at the mouth.
I see someone worried about his job
...is that Obama has STAYED ON MESSAGE the entire time and did not let those who called him all kinds of stupid-as-shit names pull him aside from it. He didn't even address it.
Obama blows me away because he DID NOT TRY TO PLACATE. DIDN'T TURN INTO A WHORE LIKE HILARY DID.
Obama is so much more of a man than any - any - of those shit-asses that they'll never be able to recognize it no matter how long he stays in office.
Obama didn't need VA, NC, FLA, IN, NV or CO to win. Once Ohio and New Mexico were called, it was over. The rest was just cake.
The inroads into that first set I listed are nice to have in the win column, though. Hell, we took my very red county in MI (Kent, home of AMWAY) for the first time since '64.
I see a rollback in the House in '10 if Obama doesn't stake out the center, though. It's going to be tough to get those untraditional voters (youth under 25, minority voters)back to the polls in the numbers we saw Tuesday, and President Obama is really going to need to win over the moderate, older white voters who went for McCain this time.
John King: [...and below the Mason Dixon line, he'd better start works projects installing additional bathrooms ( for the 'coloreds')and additional seating at the back of the bus or those good ole boys won't vote for him.]
What a piece of shit you are.
I wondered where all those people who still think Chimpy is doing a good job lived.
John King dork nozzle? I avoid CNN almost as much as Fixed Noise.
CNN has gone the way of Fox and is trying to compete for the most propaganda award. They are not news channels, they are propaganda channels. They should learn from this election that propaganda will be a failure in the future.
Did anyone see CNN has hired Fran Townsend, the queen of TORTURE.
In 2000 and 2004, Bush got in because of the final results of ONE state.
AND he lost the popular vote.
And in 2004 he only did marginally better...and screamed he had a mandate!! Political capital..and I's gonna spend it!
Of course this revolting dumbassery doesn't even wait a day to start.
You know the reslugs are all weeping into their towels and howling at the moon so their media surrogates are required to sing along.
The one showing % gains by each party is really impressive. Jesus, Indiana! Dark blue is nice, but I'd like to see those areas go blue on a map showing wins rather than one showing gains. Still great, though!
Is the numbers of voters. As an example the city Dallas and Dallas county Texas, yes Texas, 57% Obama, 42% McCain. That's change you can count on.
Keep playing the centrist card. What they don't understand is the center has moved. The so called "Compassionate Conservative" political promise has been exposed for what it is, The Big Conservative Lie. America wants change. Big change. Real change. So join us or get out of the way.
you're going to hear a lot more of these false analytics over the next year or two.
people like Karl Rove and Bill Kristol are going to say "look at who succeeded, the GOP needs to be more like them..." - and then they're going to point to the GOP senators who "succeeded" in their races. men like Ted Stevens. lulz...
these dipsh*t pundits will point to the Ozarks and the Appalachians and to west Texas and assert that we need to "get back to the roots of the party" and demand the GOP needs to get even *more* all about scare tactics. they're going to demand that the GOP is most interested in Guns, Gays and God.
nothing could be further from the truth.
the GOP needs to reach out to all the republicans they *LOST* in 2008. the GOP presidential and vice presidential candidates went so far in this last campaign as to assert that they represented "real America", and that "false Americans" included snooty people like in NYC and DC.
you know - snooty bankers and stuffed suit daytraders. lobbyists. you know - like the people who were attacked and killed on 9/11.
the GOP was 2 steps away from asserting that Al Qaeda attacked and killed "fake Americans" on 9/11 - in this last presidential race.
and the more the GOP continues to pander to those shoe-in votes from the Appalachians... the more they will continue to loser those republican votes from republicans in the cities, men and women who drive Honda Civics to work and sit in front of a cubicle all day, men and women who have divorced and are raising children separately.
the GOP needs to recognize and realize that there are *MANY* republicans who:
- do not believe in God
- want to get rich by investing in the right stocks, not by working hard in some factory
- have probably paid for an abortion at least once in their lives
***
the DNC had a hard time swallowing those facts about "purple voters" for lack of a better term... for a long time. but once the DNC began to stray from vehement anti-war rhetoric, from uncompromising pro-environmental stances, and from the "tax and spend" stereotype ... once the DNC began shifting a little to the right ... look at the success we've achieved!
the GOP needs to tell its fringe voters to either settle down and give in to some compromises... or to slag off and go make their own damn 3rd party. the DNC has basically dismissed "Green Party" candidates, and the GOP needs to do the same... they need to dismiss the "Constitution Party" and get back into the business of pandering to a majority ... or they will continue to lose those inner city and suburban republican votes.
they lost them in 2006, they lost them in 2008, and they will continue to lose them in 2010 and 2012 unless they give themselves a complete overhaul.
For some reason, it seems to me that in the US, the default politics IS conservative in a cultural sense at least. It's much more acceptable to wear Nazi propaganda, to be a skinhead, or affiliated with more extreme conservative causes (e.e., the Federalist Society) than it would be to wear the insignia of similarly liberal causes (black panthers, SDS). How many extreme LEFT wing organizations are there compared to RIGHT wing? I can't think of any truly left wing organizations that are CURRENTLY operating in the US.
is about to change. :)
I'm sure the righties would disagree and use NPR or MADD as a shimmering example of the vast left wing conspiracy.
Rick Street:
Oh, come on. I've lived even in some conservative bastions of the South, and it is not more acceptable to wear Nazi insignia than it is to wear Black Panther insignia. Someone with Panther materials might be yelled at and harassed, but more likely would be looked at as deranged and weird. Someone with Nazi materials would be shunned altogether.
Not that there aren't places where the Nazis are welcome in the U.S. There are plenty. But your characterization is just wrong for the most part. Wear a Black Panther T-shirt, and you might draw some odd looks. Wear a T-shirt with a Swastika on it, and you'll scare the living shit out of everyone around you.
Besides, even if it were true, which extreme is hated more is not quite the measure of whether America is right or left.
Frankly, most Americans are progressive. They just don't know it because the vocabulary of the left has been successfully demonized far more than the actual positions of the left. That's why it seems like America is more conservative than it is. Ask people whether they want a social safety net, universal health care, Social Security, environmental protection, alternative energy, equality, etc., and a majority will say yes. Then ask the same people whether they are liberal or conservative, and they'll tell you they're conservative.
Of course he's saying shit like this. John King, Campbell Brown, and probably the rest of CNN were born last year.
Here is an actual transcript of a segment in which John King and Campbell Brown try to remember the last time one party controlled the House, Senate and the Presidency:
Dear Morons at Corporate News Nonsense,
Were any of you alive from 2001 to 2007?!?!?!?!?
I'm not thinking about what Obama will do as left, right or middle. I'm thinking about him doing what's smart and best for the country.
I should think John King would be spending his time more wisely if he were talking about the totally unqualified candidate that John McCain put on his ticket with him and what the consequences to this country might have been had she become president. McCain led this country to the brink of mental disaster by bringing Palin on board.
Had he won and something had happened to him, it would have put our country in dangers we can't even imagine.
Please note that the first map, at the Kos link, clearly defines the Bible Belt. Barrack should concentrate on this area for reedumacation purposes. Abolishing home schooling in these areas would probably be a good start.
The bible belt is a lost cause. Information moves too slowly to that area so unless someone slips up and tells them there is a black president they will just go on thinking Bush is keeping them safe.
one of Obama's goals? Getting real information to the uneducated is a start.
There's a 15 to 20 year gap between progressive, rational thought at the national level and here. Maybe, though, the gap is inherent in all social groups?
Dick Cheney says: So!!! 50 + 1 is a clear majority, and we can do whatever the fuck we want, so STFU and OBEY!
John King should have started his whole rant by saying from a strictly corporate media point of view....
I reposition myself when I get a cramp.
Now the election is over and he's making shit up to talk about. Too Liberal? What the heck is too liberal? I think he means, don't be too nice to the poor folks and little guys and forget about him? He gets pay a lot of money just to move shit around a computer screen. All the beaming people to the show is ridiculous. Obviously they are making too much money.
Is doing the right thing for AMERICA. That's what he has promised to do, and I for one think he will do it. Can we stop with the labels already? Can we stop with the divisionary mindset? Can we get rid of John King?
As long as he puts out the propaganda that they want him to put out, he will go up the ladder and soon will have his own show.
I could not agree with you more on everything you said. The media plays us like a game. The Liberals vs. the Conservatives. The media are the broadcasters during the eternal game.
CNN has hired Fran Townsend, the queen of TORTURE.
I guess the economic downturn has hurt business at Helga's House of Pain.
To see and hear this woman is pure eye and ear torture. WTF have they hired her to do?
What's missing here is the GOP touted Obama as the MOST LIBERAL SENATOR, and people came out in droves to vote for him. America is changing, join us.
To see and hear this woman is pure eye and ear torture. WTF have they hired her to do?
I think it best to leave Wolf's private life...private.
cnn/time warner, no viewers,no profit. This is why I don't even watch these losers, the same o'l sh*t,water carriers for the republicans. MSM,go central/neutral or die. DUH!
CNN started out to report news 24/7, but that's expensive and viewers tend to tune in, get the news and move on. They needed something to keep people tuned to their channel so ratings were high and ad revenues increased.
Faux News provided the model - the only time the right wingnuts leave Faux is for a NASCAR event or American Idol.
To compete CNN replaced Erica Hill with Glenn Blech on Headline News, they got Wolf Blitzer to hyperventilate for two or three hours a day so people would think a trash barrel fire was as threatening as Pearl Harbor and they hired Nancy Grease - the world's most annoying lawyer.
John King is no more a journalist than was Ted Baxter on the old Mary Tyler Moore Show. At least Ted was funny.
that would be some damn fine infotainment...
is that now that us 'liberals' are back in power we will treat them the way conservatives have treated us for the past 8 years, with contempt, with hatred, with jackboots gleefully stomping on their faces forever.
Let's prove them wrong. Let's make Obama's words a reality - no blue, no red, just America. Let's shame the worst of them with kindness. Let's allow the Coulters and the Rushes and the Malkins of this world to self-destruct without any help from the left.
We don't need to do that. We don't NEED to behave like conquerors taking out our vengeance on the losers. Because, whether the conservatives realize it yet or not, there ARE no losers. We have ALL won in this election. And if by some bloody miracle Obama really is as good as he looks and talks, what we will have managed to bring back to America will benefit us all, liberals and conservatives both.
And that, 'my friends', will be the real victory.
Can't we at least kick them in the crotch a couple of times?
No. :)
he has better things to fill his time with the hatred from the right-wing pundits. I suspect he'd like them to just fall away without much assistance.
I hope he and you are right.
One of the first order of business will be to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine; then, make Faux News drop the News part of its name, and begin to dismantle the republican Orwellean noise machine.
This would also help to get the people's will implemented.
Then, we need to give them national exposure for each night from 9-10 lets say, on abc or nbc, so they can rotate their interchangeable barking dogs like Rush, Beck, Insanity, etc...
That way, they won't be able to cry we are "censoring" them. And just like with Palin, after the people really get to know them for a few weeks, they will become despised.
I say we kick 'em right inna nutsss.
Fox News Channel is a prop, a foil, an elaboratly painted silk screen of Republican bias, blantant, silly, obvious, and above all, indispensable. FNC stands for "propaganda" so that CNN and MSNBC can be Republican tools and get away with it, every day, all day. We have "alternatives to Fox News!" RIGHT. We can tune in to Campbell Brown, Candy Crowley, Chuck Todd (poor Chuck, he's so undone), John King, and never forget the impossible-to-dispute Michael Ware reporting Cheney-isms from the ground in Iraq.
In order for the media to be fair and balanced, there'd have to be three cable news channels steeply biased toward our side and broadcasting 24/7.
Not even if we say....Pleeeeeeeeeeeease.
Absolutely not.
High ground, people. High ground. The air is much better up there.
:)
thrift store tennis shoes!!
Mr. King - No he doesn't*
Wait 100, 200, or 1,000 days...Obama will NOT govern from the left...just wait & see...he will do what he thinks is pragmatic, which is a centrist position...Pelosi's already agreed !
Even if you're right, and Obama is more centrist than leftist... that is at least far, far better than the last 8 years of being so far to the right the country damned near fell over the cliff. (Actually, it did, I'm just hoping the fall can be somewhat cushioned now.)
There's not that much wrong with being 'centrist', or a pragmatist, if it's genuinely in the center, and pragmatic for the country rather than the man. The problem is that what Americans consider as 'left-leaning' is considered rather right of center by the rest of the world. But if America gets back on her feet again economically, if we get a decent energy policy, if we get pragmatic universal health care, if we get sensible schools teaching sensible subjects (as in no dinosaurs running around with cavemen toting Bibles), if we get our soldiers out of Iraq, if we rebuild our shattered cities like New Orleans and our road infrastructure in Minnesota, if we get all that - I don't give a rat's patootie what label you want to stick on him. Centrist. Liberal. Pragmatist. Who cares. Doer, that's all I want. Just get it done.
John---the only left thing you need to concern yourself with is people like you being left behind because of your backassward mentality and detachment from reality. Your Neocon geniuses left us worldwide disrespect, endless imperialistic wars premised on lies and deception, the worst economic crisis in 70 years, record deficits, and unprecedented fraud and cronyism in our governmental systems that served selfish interests instead of the public.
You think being liberal is a problem? Put your crack pipe down and join the real world, pal. As true patriots, we'll gladly be moving left to save our country from brownshirt frauds like you. You don't like it? Tough shit, enjoy the marginalization you so deserve.
to work on is public education. Between Palin not knowing that Africa is a continent and this guy having no clue about what socialism is, we need our schools to do a better job. These two are in their 40s and apparently learned nothing in school. Now, if Joe can just resist the temptation to make an ass out himself daily on television, perhaps he'll have time to sit down, study, and make up for the woefully poor education he apparently had.
is a fucking mandate John King, you idiot. You have said a lot of things that will not be forgotten!
Now go get yourself a job at FOX, you traitorous bitch, John King.
Sorry for the profanity, everyone.
In 2000, there were Republicans who couldn't understand why we weren't calling the election a landslide for Bush, since the map was overwhelmingly red everywhere but on the coasts and upper Midwest.
It's amazing how hard it can be to get people to understand that area plays no role in presidential electoral politics.
Obama was elected with a landslide. That was with people fully aware that he was "the" most liberal Senator - after all that's what the Repubs told us. So why on earth should he move to the right?
Of course there are areas that voted republican last time and Dem this. That's why the GOP won last time and not this.
So he is saying these people changed their minds and could change them again. Well no shit. Really, that's some astute reporting right there.
As long as President Obama (How cool to type that!) does as he speaks they will not be changing their minds. Is it too soon to start a four more years chant?
..John "On The Money" King. That's his nickname at CNN.
Well, he was "Off The Money Partisan Hack" on election night, and he wasn't hiding it even one iota.
At the latest point in his Magic Map bs, he pointed out the western states which were required to mobilize for McCain's last gasp, looked fearfully into the camera and actually uttered the words, "So, for the love of god, VOTE!"
Once NC county that went much bluer (if I'm finding the right one) is Cumberland, which would mean a lot of people from Fort Bragg. I read elsewhere online that it went 59% to Obama. I haven't seen much in the MSM about the support among the military for Obama. I think they like to stick to the story line they know rather than seeing the change that's happening while they're feeling smug.
John King says a lot of nonsense. I don't think he's necessarily an idiot, but he really misses the boat a lot.
