Here's your potential bipartisan cooperation, Mr. President. John Boehner's still claiming that the "Democrat" stimulus bill didn't work, even though (as Media Matters noted) he actually admitted back in June that the bill would create some "much needed jobs" in Ohio. And he's not too hip on the potentially upcoming "jobs bill" either, since he apparently just doesn't like the word "stimulus" if it means the Democrats get to take credit for anything like stimulating the economy or, in other words, creating jobs. Crying Boehner is apparently more worried about playing politics than if we get anything coming close to our economy recovering.

And Boehner is worried that if they meet with the President, he's potentially going to be walking into a "trap" or a "political event" and claims he wants a "real conversation" about how to "make our current system work better". Yeah, right. The only things the GOP cares about is what they can make political hay out of, what works for their campaign donors and saying no to anything the Democrats want to get passed.

One of Boehner's questions is whether the lobbyists are going to be invited to the summit. I think that's a really good question and I'd like to know if he means just the ones lining the ConservaDems' pockets, or the Republicans on his side of the aisle as well? I say, bring them all in if it means he and his cohorts can't use it as an excuse not to show up. Somehow, I doubt Boehner actually wants something besides artificial sunshine shown on him or his buddies in the GOP.

And then following Boehner on Greta's show we have Eric "I didn't realize my wife made all of that money from the TARP program" Cantor doing GOP redux that we've been listening to for the last year from these clowns. If the President thinks shaming them again as he did at their retreat is going to make any difference, he's seriously deluding himself. If he gets the better of them, the press will never put it on the proper context just as they have the thumping he just gave them on why all of their ideas are completely wrong or don't exist.

Mike Dorning and Julianna Goldman @ Bloomberg here

Obama:

“You would be hard-pressed to identify a piece of legislation that we have proposed out there that, net, is not good for businesses,” he added. He predicted that legislation he will sign this year would cut corporate taxes by about $70 billion.

snip

He also cited instances when he has clashed with specific industries such as insurance companies over his health-care plan, energy companies over climate change, and banks over a financial-regulatory overhaul. Still, he argued, in each case the proposal benefited American businesses as a whole.

The Health Insurance Industry loves their windfall health insurance reform (barf) bill.

I say that the Republicans in the House & Senate should be the ones to introduce legislation on health care reform, & for that matter, cap and trade. After all, the Republicans are more powerful than President Obama & should lead this country now. They are far more popular than the President. I say it is much easier for Republicans to get the necessary crossover votes from Democrats to support their legislation than it is for Democrats to get the necessary crossover votes from Republicans to support their legislation.

[Deleted-Sitemonitor] these two talking asses out of their misery. I guess that their dance cards are so full that they have to be invited to a meeting with the President ten weeks in advance. People are dying without healthcare, healthcare is consuming an increasingly larger amount of our money ( or should I say that the insurance and pharmaceutical companies are stealing larger amounts), and we just stand in limbo letting Ugly Greta make nasty insinuations as the two flatliners drone on. Please wake me up. This is a nightmare, right? President Obama, you should have listened to many of us and kicked out the for profits and crammed Medicare for all down their throats. Franklin would have gotten it done by now.

Greg Cronk's picture

Look I read a lot of political news, and one thing is obvious.

Yell about the Republican's, yell about the Democrats, it doesn't matter. The best imagery I can come up with when I talk about those two groups is two troupes of Chimpanzees flinging poo back and forth at each other. It has to stop! Both parties need to dissolve and a commitment to non-party government be established. All parties do is bend allegiances from the people to allegiance to party agenda. Unfortunately reading responses on most sites, be it this one the LA Times, the Washington Post, or what ever a good majority of the people are so brain washed it's embarrassing. When are you all going to grow up and hold our elected officials responsible for acting according to what best benefits us as a whole, and not acting to best benefit the "Democratic Agenda" or "Republican Agenda". I'm telling you right now both sides have huge flaws, both have a lot of good too, but until you get rid of the labels they slap on each other there's never going to be real progress.

We've all heard the words "A house divided against itself cannot stand," from Lincoln it's true and that's exactly what we have now and what got us into this mess we're in a the moment as a nation.

Kreskin's picture

Yes it's a set up , you won't be able to just rattle off a bunch of lies and go unchallenged .

"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."

plooger's picture

If Greta were anything other than a straightman, she would have followed-up on this statement from Boehner...

"I think starting with a bill that the Democrat(ic) majority in the House and Senate can't pass is the wrong place to start the conversation."

Would a functioning being not have asked Boehner, as followup, whether Boehner then supported a simple majority vote on health care reform? The only concern over Nelson, Lieberman, et al filibustering is because EVERY Republican is opposed to a simple up-or-down vote on health care reform.

Not a single mention of the word 'filibuster' at any point during the whole interview.

Fox News sure is a tough arena for the Republicans. (not)

If I was as dumb as John Boner I'd be scared too.
