John Boehner Throws Hour Long Hissy Fit on the House Floor
While the cable news channels decided that nothing else was going on other than the death of Michael Jackson, John Boehner was on the floor of the House doing his best job to pretend he is in the Senate filibustering a piece of legislation. He was supposed to be using his two and a half minutes alloted to him to wrap up debate on the energy bill and carried on for well over an hour instead.
The entire fiasco looked like nothing less than cheap showmanship and games to me, with Michelle Bachmann for the better part of the hour in the background with the rest of the Republican peanut gallery yelling "Yeah!!! You go John!!!...Keep going!!!" every chance she got.
The party of "No" isn't too good at governing when given the opportunity, but they sure are good at theatrics.
You can watch the entire thing at CSPANJunkie's new site: Minority Leader John Boehner On The Clean Energy & Climate Change Bill. I've just got the last few minutes of his freedom lovin' diatribe here.
The bill passed, barely, but all this exercise appeared to be to me was Boehner seeing if he could talk long enough to make a few members of the House get tired of listening to him and leave. Games. Political theater, pure and simple. No one likes this bill on either side and it appears the sausage makers have mucked it up enough that is not a good bill. Boehner didn't need an hour long rant to get that point across.
David Waldman's got a summary of the bill at Congress Matters:
American Clean Energy and Security Act.
He makes a good point that goes to the hypocrisy of Boehner's theatrics yesterday as well. Will the Republicans actually read their substitute bill they're likely to offer? Here's a "Read the Bill" question for you...

Oh no, is he going to start weeping again?
Er "Cleanup in aisle 4 . Bring the big mop . Boners been crying like a baby again. " What a disingenuous lying prick Boner is. Always ready to put on a big phoney show. Sleazeball in a cheap suit with a canned tan. Personifies the GOP through and through.
He was just another rubber stamping fool then, oh but that was OK.
Goodnight, Frau Blücher
I don't think they're good at theatrics at all. They aren't at all convincing.
In fact, they're worse actors than Van Damme.
If I had paid fifteen bucks to get in to see that I would have been pissed and probably left the theater pretty early in the film.
Basically, this what happens when spoiled babies don't get their way. Look for more and more histrionics and enormous tantrums in the future. They only embarrass themselves further. If only they were treated like these types of children should be treated.
I don’t want the government in charge of me and what I do. I think maybe you do though. Because you are letting the governments take control of your life. You should be the embarrassed child because you need mommy and daddy (government) to tell you what to do – How to live your life. And next they want to take control of your body with this giant health care scam. Stimulus didn’t work and how much was that! This huge Cap and Trade tax on the American citizens will not work! The huge health care tax will not work! Nothing the government gets its hands on ever works! The Democrats slogan should be TAX(stimulus) Tax(cap and trade) Tax(government health care) not jobs jobs jobs. They are chipping away at your freedom and you’re making jokes about it. Why do you hate this country?
It's all a theatrical exercise while corporate lobbyists write your rules. Boehner's just a middle man.
...is very bad for the atmosphere. How can someone who is orange possibly think he is in touch with the American people?
Dammit, the American people need to be free to pollute at will. That's the American way.
"The American people expect more of us (now that the Democrat Party is in control)." The parenthetical portion is the unspoken Republican core belief complete with its normal grammatical error. Right, John, they didn't expect anything when you and your fellow Insane Clowns were running the show.
Most current Democrats are somewhere between worthless and appalling. However, the Modern Republican Party picks up on the insane side of appalling and goes from there.
Wonder what's next for Johnny? Holds his breath until he turns bright orange and passes out? Sounds like his pathetic party needs a political time out.
"We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."
Robert F. Kennedy
If he holds his breath, would he actually turn white again? That's what I'm thinking.
Why should the Congress not be allowed to debate a 300 page amendment added on the same day they were going to vote on the bill? At one point Boehner asked if there was a full copy of the bill anywhere on the floor. This is another example of Democrats acting like Republicans. It's just a shame Boehner didn't have the guts to keep it up for longer.
the democons and republicorps, which in turns both are financial boot-lickers to the lobbyists who really run the country.
30 staffers read 10 pages each. They take notes and discuss. Not a big deal. Definitely not the thousands of pages that made up a certain bill passed into law in just as short a time-frame in the aftermath of 9/11.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
but the bill in it's current draft is a real misery maker.
It's a far-from-perfect bill.
But the process is nothing unusual or stressful. The Republicans weren't in on the amendments because they're in the minority, and stubbornly so. If they want more access to the process, they should win some more Congressional districts.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
So you're against the idea of having an actual debate? Just rubber-stamp whatever the politicians decide to drop into a bill? Okay, I'll remember you said that when the Republicans get back into power...
And if the Republicans in the Congress were there to debate the issues instead of practicing plain demagoguery, then they'd be able to form a fleeting coalition with the left wing of the Democratic caucus (like Kucinich) that doesn't support the bill as is, and force debate. But they didn't, because they don't really fucking care to debate.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
Some of the stunts Tom Delay pulled? There were no debates.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
For crying out loud. what planet do you live on, gig?
Bruce C Johnson
You might be in for a looong wait.
A Gov, and a Senator having illicit affairs? Them some real family values you guys have there.
Name one thing that the GOP has proposed this year? Just One?
And their budget with no numbers doesn't count.
The GOP in a nutshell
What is your conceptual, continuity?
Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom!!!!!!!!
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boehner is worthless. Never forget that he attached his wagon to Newt and when Newt fell from grace Boehner fell also. He has climbed his way to the top again, it is time for him to fall from grace again. Did he get that tan on the Appalachian trail last weekend???
as a tanning lotion. If you look at his eyes you can tell that he applies more to the inside than the outside.
It's the Boner.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H....
Kucinich is even against it.
They never read the bills and let the lobbyists write them.
The Manhatten project for energy is dead because they are starting a new multi billion dollar carbon trade industry.
see who owns "carbon offset" companies.
This coming from one of the major Flushers of Freedom is rich. How any number of them can get up and talk about freedom when most/all have been bought is really rich!
The Corporate Exectutives and the bankers run the show. The politicians are mere window dressing. And how 'bout that Michael Jackson, huh? Wednesday, he was a well known embarassment, high on demeral and fondling kiddies. Thursday, we, the unwashed herd, were informed by our beloved mass media that Michael had ascended to the throne of the most high. But seriously, folks, isn't it true that all was lost in the coup that took the life of President Kennedy?
Has anyone noticed that boner is not so orange these days since the President said his face was a color found no where else in nature? Boner said the tan was natural from being outside and mowing his grass. I don't know who mows their grass in winter and all year long. I live in Fla and you don't get a tan mowing your lawn in the winter when you only do it a couple times a month. Besides, does anyone believe he mows his own lawn?
I saw him doing his drama last night on c-span. In fact, he was being such a drama queen that I turned his ass off.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Protect consumers from energy price increases. According to estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency, the reductions in carbon pollution required by the legislation will cost American families less than a postage stamp per day. CBO calculates that the legislation will cost the average household less than 50 cents per day.
He sure has a purdy mouth.
The stupid leading the nutwads. I just turned 52 and I can't believe how far this country has sunk in my lifetime. We've gone from the hopeful futre of John and Bobby Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and landing a man on the moon, to a stark raving party of lunatics and a party of spineless as$wipes. The majority of the congress couldn't care less about making things better for the average American and a third of the population is fueled by hate. It's Saturday night, I'm going to have a few beers and try and wake up Monday morning with a better attitude.
... behind Boehner applauding his points.
I think they represent the majority of the modern GOP US House reps.
What a dinosaur crew they are.
most american people make the right decisions
the large faceless greedy ones make the wrong decisions and wreck it for everyone else
the banks didnt make the right decisions
CEOs did make the right decisions
wall street didnt make the right decisions........
no broehner
Get used to it.
You cats think I'm going to click play for a video titled "John Boehner Throws Hour Long Hissy Fit on the House Floor"? What kind of masochist do you think I am?!
(I'm joking. I know the video is only a few minutes long.)
These politicians use it to speak to an audience and not to each other. This isn't debate it's show and tell.
Hasa Diga Eebowai
in court rooms. Now someone is proposing cameras in SCOTUS?
Of course he's into theatrics -- are we supposed to think he wears all that makeup for nothing? And the Crying? The Re-Thug Three-Ring Circus! Complete with Media Clowns!

What a bunch of worthless clowns. They have GOT to start over with a new party and new representatives. Maybe we can give them the Democrats and we can start a real progressive party....you know, one that is truly out for the best interests of the citizens??
These guys are absolutely pathetic. L O S E R S !!!!
...gathered in one spot? Where is a a dump truck full of manure when you need one?
Are you guys kidding me? I am going to premise this by saying I am not a republican...but you guys must be joking if you are supporting this bill passed in the same way Bush pushed through the patriot act...If this same bill had been pushed forward under Bush you would have all been up in arms...
I am shocked to see that people here can only see crooks and liars when they belong to the other party...does all critical thinking leave once one's party is in power? Take the blindfold off guys...there is no more democracy... and if the people who opposed the last regime, cannot be humble enough to recognize and admit that their party is just as corrupt as the exiting one, we are in big trouble...
Chilling legislation is being pushed through under this administration and the democrats who protested Bush are giving them a free pass...I am saddened beyond belief by the childish partisanship from people here that should know better ...
Wake up people....Forget left and right... its a sad reality, but we need to recognize that we are no longer in a democracy and see reality clearly, beyond political party allegiances...that's the only way we will ever move forward
You're not paying enough attention, or you're new here. Keep reading.
I confess, I just pop in here every now and again now...so my post was probably a bit off the cuff....my apologies...just distressed... yet another terrible bill makes it through and I am just saddened by it all :-(
the lobbyists have bought the party's to such a degree that the only thing that matters is their own interests. Big issues are decided and pushed through and whats left is the scraps for entertainment.
Its entertainment like this that keeps people interested and laughing.
What most people have figured out is that the best your going to get is possibly a 1/2 truth if any, most of the time its total BS. Sites like these are the vents used for freedom to express frustration in the form of speech. We know what your saying, were mad, were really sick of the payoffs, and we get they are all bought and payed for.
If you pissed say it, even if its stupid, if your not go with it and make fun of the guy.
Understood...thanks :-)
I totally agree with you. It's appalling to see so many people who were critical of Republicans during the Bush Administration become such hypocrites while the Democrats follow the same exact procedures. Although, you do have to admit, it is humorous in a way to see how they have to twist their logic in order to satisfy their cognitive dissonance. Plus if you say anything negative against a Democrat, you are automatically assumed to be a Republican in their minds. It's frightening.
I'm not supportive of the Dems acting the same way Bush did. I just get tired of Boehner and the side show he likes to put on every chance he gets and pretending he actually cares about governing. They could care less about what any of them read that the lobbyists wrote while their buddy Bush was running the show.
As I said, it's a lousy piece of legislation. Everyone who contributes to C&L cares about cleaning up the mess and the special interests controlling our government. This clown carrying on for an hour about something his staffers actually did have time to read, and that they were going to vote against anyway even if it was a good piece of legislation just gets my goat. I listened to the entire thing on my satellite radio. Go check out the entire fiasco if you've got the stomach for it at CSPANJunkie's place I linked above for a full dose of the theatrics.
Here is a list of elected people taking payoffs to cheat the American people and the amounts of bribes being taken. This is just from health care and insurance.
It is mind boggling to think how much these people are taking from others!
Arlen Specter (R-D- PA- $4,026,933)
Max Baucus (DLC- MT- $2,833,731)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY- $2,758,468)
And when you just go right to Big Insurance, the non-presidential candidates who got the biggest legalized bribes were the 7 senators who have been tasked with the job of killing single-payer:
Ben Nelson (DLC-NE- $1,196,799)
Max Baucus (DLC- MT- $1,184,113)
Joe Lieberman (DLC- CT- $1,036,302)
Arlen Specter (R-D- PA- $1,035,530)
Chuck Schumer (D-NY- $981,400)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY- $929,207)
Chuck Grassley (R-IA- $884,724)
We need to investigate and prosecute these criminals now. Severe jail terms are in order for these criminals!
This is just a few of these criminals. There are hundreds of them, all in our government and all doing whatever is best for them.
You did not think they went into government to help you did you?
They went into government because that is where the money is and for very little effort.
Any American not currently involved in government could and should replace the people that are there now. Do a BETTER Job, for 25% of the money these guys are getting.
It was never supposed to be like this. Washinghton said you should reluctantly serve and return to what you were doing before you served.
It was never supposed to be a lifetime job, with health care and reitrement. It was about all citizens stepping up running for the office in your district, getting elected and going to washington to represent the interests of you district. After you served your term you were supposed to go back home and continue your life.
What we have now is no better then the government in mexico. As someone said the other day on here. In mexico they call it bribes here they call it campaign contributions! If you are running for office in congress and it is half a state or even far less area in a lot of cases, and the msm was not part of the problem it would not cost millions of dollars to run for an office you were supposed to be in for two damn years ang go HOME!
This is insane! IT is not what it was supposed to be!
It does not now nore has it ever served us well for the operation of our government to be done by people that are doing it for a profit motive. They have taken something that was ment to be honorable, patriotic, and a duty for every citizen to acheive and preform, into an over blown dash for the cash at everyone elses expense.
We have lost what it was supposed to mean to be an American and have become America the greedy, America the self and not America the whole.
The preamble to the constitution says and I quote!
We the people of the united states in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for th common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Prosterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for The United States of America.
What we have now is an preversion into something that was never ment to be. We are on the track of the one or the few, and off the track of the Many.
republicanism is a mental illness!

Granted the Enviro bill was crap but what he was saying was way off.
Big government, or big business?
It's headed more towards a balance.
Orangeman:: "Does this give you an idea of why the American people think congress is out of touch?"
This gives me an idea of, by a 3-1 margin, what side of the aisle the American people think is out of touch http://www.dailykos.com/weeklytrends
The 2-party system is utterly corrupted to the point where they're pointless. What problems do they actually solve? They are problem generators not problem solvers.
At least he didn't cry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGoYOSomKLw
The Republican gang just can't figure out how to stem this tide of "a different approach". Their rebuttals and engagement in discussion end up being littered with nasty sarcasm and frustration rather than honest debate and meaningful alternatives. They are still swimming in the wake of their own belligerent, failed approach during the Bush years. It ain't workin'. If you think Boney's pissed now, wait until the healthcare bills start flying. They should put this fight on pay-per-view. We probably could pay off the national debt with the ticket revenue.
as there are unseen heat lamps that Congress installed when the GOP was running the show a few years ago. Pelosi felt sorry for ol Boner and let him keep them. So thats what hes standing under as he was whining. If you watch the vid he turns his body from side to side at times, and this gives him an all over tan look. Very smart, but he 'knows' how to tan. As he is the 'George Hamilton' of Congress.
