Jim VandeHei Plays Stenographer for Dick Cheney--Andrea Mitchell Reports it as News
By Heather Tuesday Dec 01, 2009 7:00pm
From Think Progress--Politico’s Allen And VandeHei ‘Interview’ Cheney So That They Can Write His Op-Ed:
Despite Cheney’s well-known and worn-out attacks on Obama, Politico’s Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei secured an interview with the former vice president in order to inform their readers today of the shocking revelation that Cheney thinks Obama is projecting “weakness” on Afghanistan. The paper’s top reporters sat down with Cheney for a 90-minute interview and transcribed Cheney’s attacks without challenge, criticism, or rebuttal.
[...]
Instead of playing Dick Cheney ghostwriters, perhaps Allen and VandeHei can take a lesson from McClatchy’s Jonathan Landay on how to fact check his baseless smears.
I would say Andrea Mitchell could take a lesson from them as well instead of hyping The Politico's "exclusive interview".
Speaking of pathetic journalism, what is Jon Meacham smoking with this article: Why Dick Cheney Should Run in 2012:
I think we should be taking the possibility of a Dick Cheney bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 more seriously, for a run would be good for the Republicans and good for the country. (The sound you just heard in the background was liberal readers spitting out their lattes.)
Why? Because Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people. The best way to settle arguments is by having what we used to call full and frank exchanges about the issues, and then voting. A contest between Dick Cheney and Barack Obama would offer us a bracing referendum on competing visions. One of the problems with governance since the election of Bill Clinton has been the resolute refusal of the opposition party (the GOP from 1993 to 2001, the Democrats from 2001 to 2009, and now the GOP again in the Obama years) to concede that the president, by virtue of his victory, has a mandate to take the country in a given direction. A Cheney victory would mean that America preferred a vigorous unilateralism to President Obama's unapologetic multilateralism, and vice versa.

Have just about as much honesty and morality as dick chenny! 0%!
cheney can't run for president,
he's a fucking war criminal.
See Dick run. Run Dick run!
Please run - with or without Sarah - it is a sure winner!
People just love the guy and he loves people. Dick Cheney = people person through and through.
The idea of him running warms my heart.
And has had how many heart attacks? Granting, of course, that he ever had a heart in the first place.
And would be just short of 72 if inaugurated (perish the thought!). He's had four heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery, a stent and a pacemaker. In other words, not only is he old, he is more machine than man. But you knew that anyway. Once again, if Palin runs with him, people would find the idea of a President Palin within the realm of possibility. It's a nightmare ticket, to be sure. Plus, wasn't Cheney already president for eight years?
Dale Carnegie
There really is no fool like an old fool.
Cheney is an old fool - no doubt!
Well, there were at least words in there that certainly should be used in relation to The Dick:
judged
conviction
record
... is one of the most foolish things I've ever read anywhere.
Dick Cheney is a traitor, period.

Would love to have an animatronic Reagan but they'd settle for anything they can control.
We're touting a man for president whose brain is in even worse shape than his alleged heart?
Lies heavily the irony 'til reels the mind.
"Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people."
If it were up to the 'will of the people' Cheney would be a convicted man in prison, judged on his record.
... when I realized it was of a piece with the neocons at the Washington Whore Post and the Wall Street Journal. Warmongering disaster capitalists.

Yes those darned Democrats.
Never "conceding" or yielding to Bush.
Wait a minute..that's not right.
After having the 2000 election blatantly stolen from them they rolled over and played dead for 8 years.
T'is a pity that's not a man WITH a conviction, and his record HAS been judged to be about 84% unpopular, and the will of the people was quite explicit in '04.
What. A. Load.
Sheesh.
Let's just get right to the point.
Cheney is, under international law,a wanted criminal.
A wanted War Criminal.
"President" Dick?
You should be swinging from the end of a rope.
Cheney threw away America's innocence. That's the best we can thank him for - to never do that kind of thing again, and to put Cheney where he belongs whatever it takes and wherever that may ultimately be.
Cheney has cheapened and tarnishished his last government.
This bad mark may never fade away but it could serve as a permanent reminder to all of us what was and what should never be.
I don't usually 'swear' a lot, but Dick Cheney is a useless piece of shit (as are the folks at Politico)!
Unless he's testifying at the Hague in his trial for war crimes, I do not wish to hear another word out of his lying, sneering face.
Have you ever seen a cat leap and dance across hot pavement? Kinda like corn popping in a way. Cheney will be out again tomorrow.
He's a liar, twice convicted drunk driver and an idiot who shot his 'friend' in the face.
I guess this also means we'll get to see Dickless Cheney this weekend...
Cheney knows that he can't appear in public or go on some sort of lecture tour. He knows most of America is angry with him. So he has to hide away and only grant interviews to sympathetic MSM types. He is a coward. Olbermann made a good point on how Cheney apparently cannot understand the concept of courage when he labels people 'weak' when all they've done is show respect to other countries by bowing. The only way Dickie could become president is if he could somehow appoint himself like he appointed himself Vice-President. Just how much did he hope he would become president those last eight years? Instead, all he could do was get drunk and shoot at caged birds, hitting a friend in the face. Pathetic.
Seems to me that Meacham outed himself as a self-righteous fool some time ago when he wrote an embarrassing book on religion that clearly showed his ignorance and self satisfaction with it.
And he directs the efforts at Newsweek.
All that needs to be said about Cheney is "Indict him!"
Then I'd be glad to hear what he has to say.
In court.
S
give any time to one of the architects of the incredible frigging mess we are in????????? His input has zero credibility. Save it for the war crimes court (I wish.)
Andrea Mitchell is a useless hack...
funny how that is
Anytime I hear the "liberals drink lattes" bullshit, I know we're talking to a liar.
Hey Jon, that burning sensation you feel in your crotch isn't crabs, it's the latte I just poured down your pants. Enjoy the warmth. Meanwhile, we'll be hoping somebody walks your man-crush Cheney past an operating microwave oven, you dumbass. The troops he's gotten killed in Iraq and Afghanistan over the fortune he's reaped will cheer with fury.
the war 'playboy' and profiteer can go back in his spiderhole and STFU.
Cheney mysteriously "couldn't stand" for the Prez upon Inauguration... and when the oath had been taken and marshals didn't immediately move forward to shackle and lead him from the dias, I knew our democracy was DEAD.
We got no balls, people. We get what we deserve.
But don't mind me, I'm in a real funk lately.
Maybe democracy can be resuscitated. But only if people notice it lying there on the emergency room floor... heeaalp!
So frustrating.
.
But it's never "DITHERING" when Bush/Cheney decided to NOT make troop adjustments the last few months of their tenure, YES?
Or, or, or...
... Turning a blind eye at Tora Bora, NO?
.
Why on earth is this evil man getting so much attention, and why do the worthless folks in the news media refuse to challenge his assertions. For example, on the bowing issue. Other presidents, including Republicans, have bowed to world leaders. Of course they don't mention that to Darth Cheney. As far as I'm concerned, Cheney's over the top constant criticism borders on treason. He's a total hack and has been. He was a horrible VP, and is now running around trying to polish his own legacy by trying to tear Obama down. The Bush/Cheney cabal dropped the ball on Afghanistan. They allowed OBL to escape from our grasp, and now Cheney has the audacity to criticize Obama who's been left to clean up their messes. Come on news people, do your job. Stop sucking up to Darth Cheney. America needs to hear the truth.
Oh, and by the way, Cheney is a war profiteer, which makes him an even bigger scum bag. He tarnished this country's reputation in a big way by violating our laws and basic principles of decency. In the old days, those things would have meant something. He certainly wouldn't be given a platform and open pass by the press to spread his lies and toxic verbiage without being challenged or condemned.
Besides being top critical dog of President Obama, MSNBC can now make claim to a new step above the rest of the MSM arrogant commentators who think they have more insight into our nation's problems. It is more then bias, it is more then manipulation, and you can now elevate their status to complete theater.
While you cannot give a full description of this new category concerning MSNBC's approach to Obama's actions in a few paragraphs, it is obvious they have taken a sun-up to sun-down approach, complete with a full list of characters, to everything Obama does.
MSNBC's criticism has long range objectives. They are working to hurt Obama from the left, the middle, and, of course, the right. These days you can only hear something good about him in the most obvious cases -- the Nobel Peace Prize comes to mind. Even then, they worked hard to make that a negative.
Hopefully, in four years, they will have hurt Obama from all sides. They will need to because Obama will be hard to beat.
Joseph
watching dicky's funneral on TV and reading about it in Newsweek. I hope it comes silently, painlessly, and soon.
And the 2008 vote was somehow an anomoly that didn't indicate that? McCain was going to continue the BushCheney philosophy. Barack was going to change it. Overwhelmingly, people voted to CHANGE from unilateral imperialism.
Now if someone could just remind Obama...
..coward.
And that will be dick cheney's legacy!
...and its hard to laugh with a mouth full of espresso. Cheney as president - best joke Ive heard all day!
Now I have to clean my screen.
I thought he was walking around on borrowed time already. He seems older than McCain so I just assumed. And Meacham wrote: "...vigorous unilateralism to President Obama's unapologetic multilateralism..." hmm, what a slanted way to view things. why not rearrange two adjectives and it can sound even more accurate: "...unapologetic unilateralism to President Obama's vigorous multilateralism..."
I have not like Obama's handling of the war. And I don't like this plan. But if Cheny doesn't like what Obama's doing... it seems likely he's doing the right thing. I gotta rethink this
Actually, Dick Cheney will be a man CONVICTED if the Obama administration ever develops the balls to investigate the war profiteering and fraud, torture, illegal war and war crimes of the past administration.
Somebody should ask this guy how it feels to be Dick's poodle.
Even when GW had his faithful idiots holding his approval rating around 35%, Big Dick was wallowing at around 10%. Good call Jon!
She's a washed up Hag with a low rated show that nobody watches anyway.
era.
These dinosaurs have NO credibility.
"Why? Because Cheney is a man of conviction..."
I thought he hadn't been convicted yet.
A leader of given country is purported to be involved in selling drugs. The good ole US of A envades his country, kills military personnel and civilians and carts the President off to jail. Noreiga remains there to this day somewhere in the good ole US of A.
Said leader is purported to have weapons of mass destruction. The good ole US of A envades his country, kills hundreds of thousands of citizens and causes the hanging of said leader, Saddam Hussein.
Said former leader of "Rogue Nation," Dick Cheeeeney, is allowed to malign and undermine the current President of the good ole US of A preventing him from using all of his energy to solve the problems that the former administration has left. And does the citizenry rise up and charge the former VP with treason?
Not a creature is stirring, not even a rat...
