Huckabee Not Sure if He'd Want to Give Up His "Wonderful" Fox Gig to Run for President
By Heather Monday Nov 30, 2009 9:00am
Chris Wallace asks Huckabee what the chances are of him running for President in 2012 and while not ruling it out, one of the reasons he cites for not running is enjoying his wingnut welfare on Fox News too much.
WALLACE: Since you -- since you brought up the election cycle, let's end with a little bit of politics, gentlemen.
Governor Huckabee, I want to show you a couple of polls that I suspect you already know about, but let's put them up on the screen.
Seventy percent of Iowa Republicans view you favorably. That is more than any of the other mentioned likely presidential possibilities for 2012. And a national poll of Republicans last month had you in first place -- national poll -- ahead of Romney, and Palin and Gingrich.
So, Governor Huckabee, why wouldn't you run for president in 2012?
HUCKABEE: Well, there's obviously a lot of smart people in Iowa and the rest of the country. Let me acknowledge that. But the reason I wouldn't is because this Fox gig I've got right now, Chris, is really, really wonderful.
And you know, it's easy to say, "Oh, gee, don't you just want to jump back in it?" But jumping into the pool -- you've got to make sure there's some water in it. And there's a whole different deal of saying some folks take a poll and whether there's the financial support.
Howard and I have both been there, done that. It's a wonderful experience. But I am nowhere near ready to say that that's what I want to do three years from now.
WALLACE: So let me ask you a silly question three years out. What do you -- would you say at this moment are the chances that you will run, 50/50, better, worse, what?
HUCKABEE: It's hard to say. A lot of it depends on how the elections turn out next year and whether Roger Ailes continues to like my show on the weekends. And if all those things factor in, you know, it's less likely than more likely, just because I would have to see that the Republicans would be willing to unite behind me.
The last time out, my biggest challenge was with the establishment Republicans who just never showed their support. And while I think a person can possibly win without them, the Republican Party needs to unite if it's going to win in 2012. And anyone who thinks Barack Obama is an easy mark off, just remember Bill Clinton was just labeled politically dead and came back to win a resounding re-election in 1996.

that asshole thinks sara plain can handle Iraq, afghanisten, china, israel, Iran, TARP, unemployment and health insurance better than Obama. FauxNoise is the perfect place for him.
I call them FOXIs.
and the GOPranos can get viewed as the FOXI party.
Huck's out of the running. Sarah just announced she's chosen a bag of rocks to be her running mate.
Is that jerk trying to say that Obama has been written off and politically dead like they thought Clinton was in 1996..
I really hate Huckabee. I hate the way he comes across, or tries to come across as an everyday, good natured pal with his measured radio announcer voice, but really if you look deeper he says some of the most backwards, extreme, and anti American garbage you can hear today. He can try to fool others-he doesn't fool me. To me he's part of the American Taliban.
will convince him to keep his current job. Recently, Maurice Clemmons with an extensive criminal past -- whose 95-year prison sentence was commuted in Arkansas nearly a decade ago by then Gov. Mike Huckabee-- was being sought Sunday as a "person of interest" in a deadly ambush on four police officers who were gunned down inside a coffee shop.
Clemmons is just ONE of many violent criminals Huckabee gave clemency to. Over the course of his 10 and a half years as governor, Huckabee granted a staggering 1,033 clemencies, according to the Associated Press. That was more than double the combined 507 that were granted during the 17 and a half years of his three predecessors: Bill Clinton, Frank White, and Jim Guy Tucker.
Move over Willie Horton ads, here come the Maurice Clemmons ads.
Huck is finished. Although he is currently a front-runner for 2012 in some polls this really puts a nail in his presidential aspirations coffin.
and threw flash bang grenades into his auntie's house. I think he's gone beyond being a 'person of interest'
Glad you mentioned this. I was actually hoping that Huck would run so that he could have his own "willy horton" moment.
Can do as they d... well please and no one including the news media will say a word...
But let a democrat cough and the whole world is told that the end is near..
Will be Huck's Waterloo if the "person of interest" turns into the "prime suspect."
Clemmons is Willy Horton on steroids. Huckleberry won't make it out of NH if he tries to run again.
Howard and I have both been there, done that. It's a wonderful experience. But I am nowhere near ready to say that that's what I want to do three years from now.
Translation - "I got a free ride the last time, but the next time things might be reported that show me to be the hypocritical bastard that I really am."
i wonder if it has donned on the smarter of the GOP ops that a GOP ticket with 2 fundies isn't viable. if so, then the palin - huckabee grudge match will be interesting to watch.
if not, i would predict that there is a strong chance we'll see a huckabee/palin or palin/huckabee ticket. which would mean a 2nd term for pres Obama
I can't see Palin having the smarts to team up with the Huckster and I can't see Huckabee being able to swallow his pride enough to be VP for Palin or being dumb enough to take her on as his VP. Up until yesterday, Huckabee was the guy I feared most as the republican contender. He is far enough to the right to satisfy most of the tea baggers but unlike Palin and the other fundies he can actually seem reasonable. I remember the first time I saw him on Jon Stewart's show before I knew what his policies were I came away thinking "not too bad for a republican". However if the news about Maurice Clemmons holds up: that he was pardoned by Huckabee and is now the killer of those cops in Seattle I don't see how Huckabee could survive a republican primary fight. His fellow repubs will make mince meat out of him as not being law and orderish enough.
oh, now that is interesting
and i agree with you, huckabee is a very dangerous fellow. partly b/c he is so amiable and quick. i think you're right, too, that neither huck nor palin would want to have to deal with the other.
his sentence was commuted and he was granted parole. A pardon is forgiveness of the crime. Jimmy Carter commuted Patricia Hearst's sentence. Bill Clinton pardoned her. Big diff.
Tell that to the four dead officers.
You're going after me for a fucking definition? Idiotic. I didn't make those distinctions up. They've been a point of law for centuries.
Point is, 'tell that to the dead officers' guy, Huck did not see fit to pardon the guy. He was a violent offender. Is your implication that it's OK to lie about Huckabee because he's an asshole? Because it sure reads that way to me.
You are the one offering the "definition" and you are wrong. He was not given parole, he was given clemency. I read the document (signed by the huckster himself) just now. Go to seattletimes.com and read it.
To accuse people of "lying" because they are using terms loosely, and then get mad because I'm "going after you for a ... definition" is kind of ironic, dontcha think?
he was eligible for parole. After the commutation, he was granted parole. He violated parole and was sent back to prison. Charges were dropped after it was found his rights were violated. They were not refiled.
You can look all of this up online. It's on the news, he was on parole.
Here. I did some heavy lifting for ya, sparky:
I didn't accuse anyone of lying. You seem to have comprehension trouble all around.
I understand this distinction better because of the Libby commutation and the rift it created between Bush and Cheney. It is an important distinction. No, it probably makes no difference to a crime where the police are saying they are not even looking for a motive beyond being criminally insane. Thank you miss kitty and fu "tell that to the dead officers" guy. I like to try and use words that mean what I am saying.
These were FOUR COPS. Republicans are very big on law enforcement. Huck will not survive a GOP primary, let alone make the nomination.
Not an eye was batted by the Thugs when he went on to murder 2 young women, one of them carrying a much vaunted tiny fetus.
I mean, are YOU aware of Dumond? You didn't understand either, Patty Hearst was merely an example to illustrate the difference between commutation and pardoning. She applied for a pardon every year, even though she was no longer in jail.
You probably deny that Al Gore invented the internet or that Sarah Palin could see Alaska from her porch.
Getting facts straight is too much trouble.
If Arkansas is anything like Texas the governor has little influence over the parole process, because that would be the Board of Pardon and Paroles (as it's called in Texas), who then pass on their recommendation.
However, that doesn't excuse the blashphemor boosh for not commuting Karla Faye Tucker's sentence, afterall, it simply would have moved her from Death Row, to a life sentence.
which made him eligible for parole. He got parole 3 months later. He then committed armed robbery and some other violent crimes and his parole was revoked. He was sent back to prison, but his rights were violated, he was allowed to go free after prosecutors chose not to refile. After that he moved here. Latest is he's about a mile from my place in the U District, and the last officer he killed managed to shoot him in the torso.
it is hard to figure out who agrees with Michelle Malkin on this incident.
I don't think you have to bother with Huckabee. Although the media is doing its best (oh, it wasn't a pardon and it was SO long ago...) he is responsible for releasing a guy who just killed four of our police officers.
He responded on his website today -- he blames the problem on the Arkansas and Washington legal systems. What a wanker. He had better stay FAR away from anybody from this part of the country.
I wonder if the right will go after him like they did with Dukakis.
...Or will the right stay consistent and keep quiet this time?
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/11/30/crime...
will only go after Huck if they end up backing a candidate who's even crazier than him - which is likely.
And Dukakis was Gov when the legislature passed the bill thet allowed the furlough of Horton. So the big diff is, Huck's hands are all over a direct decision that let an alleged cop killer out, and a killer rapist as well (Wayne Dumond, who killed a pregnant gal the day before he was arrested for the murder of another woman), whereas Dukakis was not at all directly involved with the decision regarding Horton.
Oh Yeah. Huck is an (R), while Dukakis, is a (D). Big Difference.
"Oh Yeah. Huck is an (R), while Dukakis, is a (D). Big Difference."
You're getting it now. If something is said about the Huck's decision it's the mean old liberal media unfairly attacking him. But when it came to Dukakis, it was fair and caused him the election.
Huckabee's new problem with Clemmons would make Dukakis' Willie Horton dilemma look like child's play. The others would eat him alive. I agree with itslmentry - he is an asshole. Doesn't believe in evolution. In this day and age? And he expects to get to the White House? Good luck with that, Buckwheat. Let's not forget that when he left the Governor's mansion he took all of the hard drives and had real questionable gift receiving habits. Besides, he said it himself, he's on the Fake News Gravy Train.
Cops Sunday night were hunting a career criminal once granted clemency by former presidential contender Mike Huckabee for questioning in the coffeehouse executions of four cops in suburban Seattle.

Has ended any Presidential aspirations Huck had left, no doubt about it.
The Huckster will do what Conservatives do best. Play the victim and say the mean ole liberal media is attacking him. Things that the left have to answer for are completely different than what the right has to answer for. Although this may seem like a Dukakis moment don't get excited
Is another nut.
His gig on Faux feeds his starving ego - maybe he needs something like gastric bypass for his ego?
Otherwise it just isn't healthy.
that does nothing but listen to his own voice.
President Huck
Think of the bright future and prosperity we'll enjoy as blogger's and web site posters.
Having a conservative politician's career derailed is always a good thing. I was on the fence on how conservatives would react, but Michelle Malkin is already running with the story and casting ol' Huck in a negative light. Huckabee is a likable guy, which makes him dangerous since his facade is covering up the normal conservative religious douchebaggery. He might have been able to pull out an, "Aw shucks, I ain't such a bad guy," campaign that would have swayed some of the middle and independents while still dropping enough clues to the far right that he was their boy. The others, especially Palin, whatever their other faults, are wearing their credentials like a chip on their collective shoulder. That will get the hard-core 25-percenters but will turn off a lot of other people.
He gets to sit in a chair on FOX and chuck stones at the current President.
It's much better being on the throwing end than on the receiving end, any day of the week. The President gets held accountable for certain things (theoretically speaking, at least), but the FOX talking heads?
Not so much.
Really? You would base an important decision like running for Pres on that? You'd leave it up to Roger Ailes? Who's your lord and master? What if Ailes liked your show, but also liked the idea of you running? What if Ailes didn't like your show, and didn't want you to run either?
What a douchebag, not that it needs saying...AGAIN.
I came across a comment made by an alleged conservative that said the recent incident was Huckabee's "Willy Horton".
2010... I believe it will and or would be very helpful, if President Obama or the First Lady encouraged the Nation to get to the polls in 2010. That it is necessary, in order to right this Ship of state.

He has no shot.
Just like Karl Rove. It's all about the money. Fuck up the nation for eight years and then whore yourself out to Rupert Murdoch and his neo-con money tree. Yes, I said whore, and this is the real kind where you make it by using your mouth.
Concur, no shot. Easier to talk sh#t for Murdoch.
Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that Huckabee gave clemency to the man who's now a prime suspect in a quadruple slaying in Washington state -- in much the same way that a convicted rapist named Wayne DuMont escalated to murder after being released on parole as a result of Huckabee's efforts on his behalf. Couldn't have anything to do with that, could it?
Naaaaah, of course not...don't be silly. Why would anybody think that?
The shootings occurred at 8:15 am PST. I think the show was made before the guy's name was released around 6 pm PST.
It's possible even the show was done before the shootings.
I think he's playing coy. No one announces this early.
Huckabee, Maccabee, manatee...what's the difference??

Keep your eye on Tim Pawlenty....
Not "bobby" jindal?
How about some nice Pawlenty with a little Jindal on the side.
Goes great with white crackers. Yummy!
What does food have to do with it? ;)
It has about as much relevancy to a political conversation as Pawlenty and Jindal do.
√ and time.
No problem! Did Harry Reid pass the health insurance industry bailout yet?
We know how much that industry is suffering.
I agree. Pawlenty is already moving his people in place for his campaign.
Pawlenty will be the VP (ie grownup) on the Palin ticket.
Write it down...you heard it here first.

Hee hee...good catch.
But honestly...I'm not being hypocritical. Does Palin have any political relevancy. I'm just picking the roster. Doesn't mean I think they're relevant or can win.

I guess it is a pretty good gig. Just keep the spite shouting and the shite spouting, then receive healthy amounts of money.
Huckabee is getting as fat as party leader Limbaugh. It must be a good gig.
But I understand why would he want to leave such a cushy job at fox?
You get to lie and get paid more then anyone on there could ever hope to make any other way.
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness!
