Howard Kurtz points out the hypocrisy by those on the right and at Fox News who had a hissy fit over Alan Grayson calling a lobbyist a whore, but ignoring Glenn Beck calling Mary Landrieu a prostitute. The guy from The National Review's answer killed me.

GERAGHTY: I think I expect more out of a member of Congress than the 5:00 p.m. hour of FOX News.

Well, so do I but that doesn't excuse Glenn Beck for that pile of dung he calls a television show. I also don't think it's is a fair comparison. Grayson didn't call the lobbyist a street walker like Beck did Landrieu. He used the term whore which can also mean "a venal or unscrupulous person".

KURTZ: You know, a few weeks ago on this program, I talked about why I thought that CNN and MSNBC and other news outlets should have devoted more attention to something that Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson said. He called a lobbyist a "K Street whore."

FOX News went wild on this story. I thought it was underplayed elsewhere.

Now we have Glenn Beck using a similar term on FOX News. Let me play that for you and we'll come back on the other side.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GLENN BECK: Well, I'm sorry. So we know you're hooking, but you're just not cheap. It's $300 million...

(END VIDEO CLIP)

KURTZ: OK. He's talking there about Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu, who did get a provision in order to get her support for breaking the filibuster on the health care bill, $300 million for Louisiana.

He said she was hooking. He basically called her a prostitute.

Let's go back a couple of weeks to what Sean Hannity and Michelle Malkin were saying on FOX News when the Alan Grayson "whore" comment was made.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SEAN HANNITY: What would be the reaction if it was a Republican?

MICHELLE MALKIN: Well, you know, we would be strung up by our toes. Imagine if you had said something like this, Sean, about a lobbyist on Capitol Hill or any other Democratic public figure.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

KURTZ: Bill Press, I didn't hear anyone else on FOX criticizing Glenn Beck for essentially calling Mary Landrieu a prostitute.

PRESS: Neither did I. I have to tell you, look, I'm a talk show host, I am totally for talk show hosts almost getting away with almost anything they say, on the radio particularly. But I'm amazed at how much FOX lets Glenn Beck get away with. I think he is a ticking time bomb, and one day he's going to explode in the face of Roger Ailes, and they're going to be sorry they gave him that television show.

KURTZ: Jim Geraghty, did Beck go too far in his language?

GERAGHTY: Well, it was a little bit crass, but nobody elected Glenn Beck to Congress -- yet.

KURTZ: All right, so you're saying there should be no standards for what people say on television?

GERAGHTY: I'm saying I think it's not unnatural to expect more from a member of Congress or elected official...

(CROSSTALK)

KURTZ: Oh, I see. So you're saying it's OK -- I mean, Grayson should be held accountable because he's an elected official, and Glenn Beck is in the gasbag business like many of us on television.

GERAGHTY: I think I expect more out of a member of Congress than the 5:00 p.m. hour of FOX News.

a tool and a hypocrite.

Some stuff you can't make up!

While Kurtz commendably criticizes Fox for hypocrisy, he ignores the fact that Mark Halperin, a fellow Time Warner employee, also made offensive comments about Landrieu.

Kurtz on Whores

This proves that he is not capable of being an impartial media analyst. He is willing to bash the competition, but let his corporate cousins off the hook.

Look forward to the day she is no longer called Senator.

Glen Beck was simply speaking from experience.

Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.

..to call anyone a "Prostitute" like beck did, I'm still curious as to why he didn't also call jindal or cao "Prostitute" since they wanted and campaigned for the $$ as well.
beck is just a stupid talk show clown but that's his excuse.

Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"

Kuttz couldn't make that part of the story.

Glenn Beck should stick to mouthing off about things he knows about. Like Racism.

Shadowgm's picture

... why does Mark Halperin still have a job?

Is there any other standard when it comes to the M$M and Faux?

I'm shocked Beck would say something outrageous and insulting.

What happened to good old Glenn? He used to be so balanced and sensible. (snark)

What do you call a person who does anything that will keep their audience of crazy people and they do it simply for money? What do you call someone who sells their soul daily for a great big check? Are ya listening Mr. Beck?

What do you call a person who will compare the President to Hitler for money? What do you call a person like that, Mr. Beck?

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

the buffoons who recently crashed the White House State dinner sum our culture up perfectly. Vapid, materialistic, seeking fame and fortune and totally devoid of any sense of reality.

People like that couple are looking for easy money. They want people to pay to watch and listen to them while they go about their "daily lives". At least Beck has to write his script and perform. Stupid and evil as he may be.

you call them a *hore, obviously.

I don't expect anyone on the right to call Beck out for saying this about a sitting U.S. Senator because it involves doing the right thing for the right reasons.

A geek? Not that there's anything wrong with that, ya gotta make a living but they used to be in carny shows.

Republicans are ALWAYS RIGHT.

If they use profanity on the floor of the Senate while trying to get you to swallow public Christianity, they are right, and it is good.
If they lie to Americans about WMD and blame the next president for the resulting big wars, they are right, and it is good.
If they call abortion doctors killers and deny they did, they are right, and it is good.
If they call for racial profiling of non-whites only, they are right, and it is good.
If they promote the poisoning of congressmen, they are right, and it is good.
If they name a US Senator a prostitute, they are right, and it is good.

There is no logic. Logic does not exist on this platform. The only thing you need remember about Republicans, their minions, and their media, is that they are ALWAYS RIGHT.

NAH-UH. SHUT UP. SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP.

How about the hypocrisy of not pointing out the greatest transfer of wealth in human history, in the Bankster's coup d'Etat.

That would be a good one to talk about.

Washington DC is a city of bought (mostly) men. There are bought women there too, but the term whore is entirely inappropriate. Pimp, is more to the point. They are selling us down the river.

Then there were these three:

Moyers, Greenwald, Rosen, and it has never been said more succinctly, here

BILL MOYERS: I think you wrote that "The media stars in Washington almost never understand that there's anything wrong with the establishment of which they're a part."

GLENN GREENWALD: That's right. I mean, if you were to say to normal Americans, and it's the reason why these issues resonated, and why Barack Obama made them a centerpiece of his campaign, that members of Congress leave office and make millions of dollars doing nothing other than essentially peddling influence to wealthy individuals who can have their way with Congress.

Most people consider that to be corruption. That's what Barack Obama called it when he ran. Yet, to members of the media, who have spent their lives in Washington, who are friends and colleagues of the people who are engorging themselves on this corrupt system that is just the way of life. It's like breathing air or drinking water. It's not anything that's noteworthy, let alone controversial.

That he doesn't understand the distinction between literally calling someone a whore (Beck) and using the word metaphorically in the context of K Street (Grayson)?

I doubt Glenn will be reprimanded for his slur.

I really pissed off a State legislator the other day when I asked her who her PIMP was and how much she charged. She really got indignant about it, I explained that all women are WHORES and according to their demented media darling I can address her as such. After she calmed down she asked me to justify which I did.

I explained that since none of the WHORES on the right took the time to stand up for every woman in America on such a outlandish statement, it justifies my calling her a WHORE, I explained she is in Politics so she must sell her self to get what she wants because according to the demented Clown she neither has the Brains or tenacity to think for herself or have follow through with out being a WHORE. Needless to say I was asked to leave, however I will seek out other republican WHORES and confront them anyone think I can get lucky and really get laid too?

Shadowgm's picture

... eventually, you'll get put on a little list of disturbed individuals. They'll start watching for your phone number and e-mail, and because we're talking Republicans with no sense of humor, you'll become the subject of a national security letter and your house will be ransacked without a warrant, and your computer searched for child pornography or white supremacist literature.

TheSavage's picture

if they found child pornography or white supremacist literature, wouldn't they just welcome him into the Republican fold? Or at least the Catholic Church...

Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.

It is such an injustice to smear the good name of the world's oldest profession by equating it with politicians.

Or rather, politics. Without politicians, prostitutes would have limited clientele.

Lord knows those folks were screwed out of billions in hurricane recovery funds. Did they ever find where all that money went to? That was an issue a while back. I wonder if they looked in the former Governor's or Nagin's pocket? Or Landrieu's for that matter. Let's just hope it gets to the citizen's of Louisiana this time. Too bad it took it took a sorry excuse for a Health Care Reform bill for them to get it. I'd keep a close eye on Jindal, I bet he's licking his chops.

Newsflash: ALL politicians are whores and prostitutes! Every single one of them receive money from lobbyists so they change laws in their favor. Shameless, every one of them.

Credibility+. If he says Beck will eventually implode, I'll go make the popcorn. The problem is, whatever form that implosion takes, it will have far-reaching consequences. Beck plays with fire, we all will get burned.

majii's picture

let's begin investing in fireproof gear./ snark
Beck is a dangerous individual because he lies and passes those lies onto millions of his faithful viewers who worship him for his "truthfulness." What they fail to understand is that, for Beck, it's all about the money. His money.

bibimimi's picture

he reaches a lot of idiotic people between TV and radio. historically there is no precedent, and as far as regulation or control is concerned he shields himself with The First Amendment. It's like a pendulum. The further he pushes it, the further it swings back.

They are a joke on the right. They make their rules, and they have a set for the others.

The Glenn Beck Review's picture

It's clear that Fox is to news as professional wrestling is the sports. Similarly, Beck's words are to political discourse as the Deep Horizon oil spill is to the ocean, i.e., a toxic and disastrous mess.
