Reid: Well I don't know, you know this is not a high school deal where you say okay you embarrassed me in front of my girlfriend therefore you apologize.
King: But you made peace with Sen. McCain. Should they do something like that?
Reid: Maybe they already have. I think a lot of this is very private stuff but Joe Lieberman has done something that I think was improper, wrong and I'd like that we weren't on television I'd use a stronger word of describing what he did. But, ah...Joe Lieberman votes with me a lot more than a lot of my senators. He didn't support us on military stuff and he didn't support us on Iraq stuff. But you look at his record, he's good. He comes from one of the most liberal states in the country. He is, Joe Lieberman is not some right wing nut case. Joe Lieberman is one of the most progressive people ever to come from the state of CT.
Considering how often Democrats have caved to Holy Joe's Machiavellian games in the past, these kinds of words aren't exactly heartening.

I've already sent emails to my two Democratic senators calling on them to support replacing Reid. They will do nothing. It is time the lefty blogs put some muscle behind the complaints. We need to stop whining and get a massive petition going to replace Reid. If the Democratic senators were hit with millions of messages and/or names on a petition to dump Reid -- a completely worthless POS -- they might do something.
I encourage everyone to send email to your Democratic senator(s) and demand that Reid go. The Democratic Party has terrible leaders and unless they are replaced, nothing is ever going to get better.

How can he diminish what Lieberman has done? It isn't that he didn't support them on the military stuff, it's that he campaigned against the Democratic nominee and questioned his patriotism while he was at it. He agreed with accusations that Obama might be a Socialist.

Investment funds invest in stock that makes the most money if they are any good. Regardless of the Lieberman issue we've known for years that Harry Reid has always been the wrong man at the wrong time to lead the Senate majority. How he ever got to this position in the first place amazes me. I suspect a majority of Senate Democrats recognize this as well and will deal with him accordingly.

The thing is, the Democrats should be profusely thanking Lieberman. McCain might have won the election without Lieberman's campaign advice. Having Lieberman speak at the GOP convention didn't hurt either. Holy Joe is probably the only politician with a lower approval rating nationwide than Dick Cheney.

Uh, Harry, how many people do you actually know from CT? Apparently not many. I've lived in CT most of my life and, believe me, this man is not typical of anything here. He may have been "progressive" at one time but a lot has happened since then. Namely, the Democrats of CT finally got tired of his constant cheerleading for a stupid blunder of a war and defeated him in a primary. Lieberman is indignant the the Democrats rejected him and tried to take "his" Senate seat away. Consequently, he hates the Democrats and only makes nice-nice with them because they could offer him a plum committee chairmanship. And because he loves Republicans because they voted for him in huge numbers and returned him to the Senate, he took his committee chairmanship to push the Republican agenda, namely blocking investigating how the Bush administration did such a dreadful job after Katrina. Over the past year or more he hasn't bothered to show up for his plum job at all, preferring to follow McCain around the country grinning like Howdy Doody and applauding like a wind-up monkey. And that's not even mentioning that Gawd-awful Republican Convention speech. People who actually live in CT have far different criteria for "progressive."

And yes I am sorely disappointed with Nancy Pelosi ever since she took the Constitution off the table. Bush did worse stuff than Nixon and I have still yet to hear anything about impeachment.

It's not just Iraq or "military matters". Several other high-profile Dems voted "wrong" on Iraq and other matters. Hell, I still don't forget how (rightly) mad many of us were on Obama's flip-flop on FISA and telecom immunity not long ago. Lieberman stands alone in my mind, however. Whatever his voting record, he has been the hard right's best friend whenever they've needed a Dem to speak ill of the Democrats or of the left generically.
I remember watching Lieberman palling around with the likes of Sean Hannity well before Iraq. Don't forget, he was one of the first Dems who couldn't wait to speak ill of Clinton over a consensual sexual affair, but he had no problems chumming around with torturer Bush. Remember the famous Bush kiss? From W's perspective, it was well earned. Look at footage of Bush throughout his term and you'd frequently see Lieberman at his side.

I'm a life-long Democrat. And while I think non-partisan alliances are OK, a healthy dose of dissonance is good for the country. It keeps people honest. It makes them stand up for what they believe. But Harry - this is about politics and government. Not a Mormon quilting bee! Joe Lieberman has betrayed our party and he should be punished. It IS that simple. I don't trust Joe, and I'm not alone!

actually TWO...Reid should be replaced with Hillary Clinton as Senate Majority Leader. Lieberman should be replaced with anything...a chair...a stack of paper...a frisbee. Really wouldn't make much difference. A chair is a useful place to rest, paper can be used to store valuable information and a frisbee is simply fun.

As a supporter of Senator Lieberman I am offended by the threats from Senator Harry Reid and many of his Democratic colleagues to strip Senator Lieberman of his Chairmanships simply because he chose his friendship with John McCain over party politics. In repose to these threats, I have set up the a blog, Let Joe Stay (http://letjoestay.blogspot.com/) with the hope of mobilizing like minded people to contact their Senators as well as Senator Reid and inform them not to put their pettiness ahead of what’s right. Senator Lieberman is the best man for these Chairmanships and to remove him would be foolish. If this is truly the time for hope and change, then Sen. Reid should forgive and forget and allow Joseph Lieberman to keep his Chairmanship.

Joe Lieberman has stabbed the Democratic party viciously, repeatedly, for several years now. It is hard to even believe that this person ran as Al Gore's running mate. His pandering to the right-wing hate machine has been disgusting and despicable. The list of his acts of extreme betrayal is long and deeply painful. This person does not deserve any consideration whatsoever to actually Chair a Democratic committee. It would be a complete travesty.
If the Democrats believe in any self-respect and any decency at all- they must not encourage or condone unprincipled back-stabbers, and send the fatally wrong signal to future Quislings. Democrats must not be deterred by whatever (fake) contribution this opportunist makes in the caucuses. He has proven himself worse than a wolf in sheep's clothing. For the Democrats and the nation, this is a sacred duty.
Like the year 2006, the people in this country have spoken loud and clear about what actions they expect and demand the Congress to take in order to clean up the U.S. government. In this vital service. the Democrats have performed poorly (even pathetically) until this point (no accountability whatsoever for the war-crimes and other impeachable offenses by this administration). It's been obvious that loyalty does not count much this days in the political realm; but should you reward ONE that overstep with a free pass and a slap in the wrisk and one that went over-the-line and FORGET the calls of the AMERICAN PEOPLE; just because as you say: "I would not be the Senate Majority if it weren't for JOE".
Do you actually hear what YOU say? "My Senators" as if it is a possession belonging to the Senate Majority Leader? The audacity to put YOUR politics above all else (the AMERICAN PEOPLE; who YOU have forgotten that YOU work for?
AMERICA need NOT only to clean-up White House and the mess the Bush Administration and the Senate and Congressional leadership of Reid and Pelosi; but also a GOOD scrubbing of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY leaderships.

We don't need Mr. Reids counsel to know what is right. He must realize that he needs the counsel of the voters and be reminded that the blessing of the PEOPLE is not just necessary but required.
