Hannity and Bachmann Telling More Lies About ACORN and Barney Frank

Another day, another hit piece on ACORN from Fox News. This time from Sean Hannity and Michelle Bachmann. Andy Birkey at the Minnesota Independent has the breakdown on this segment:
Rep. Michele Bachmann continued her campaign against Rep. Barney Frank and the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) on Fox News’ Hannity on Wednesday. Despite Bachmann’s claims on the show, a new bill introduced by Frank will not funnel money to ACORN and ACORN is not “under indictment” in 12 states for “voter fraud.”
Frank recently introduced a bill to “use amounts made available under the Troubled Assets Relief Program of the Secretary of the Treasury for relief for homeowners and neighborhoods.” Described as a neighborhood stabilization program, the funds would go to help depressed communities hit hard by the foreclosure crisis.
But Bachmann sees an evil scheme to give money to ACORN.
“Now Barney Frank thinks that [TARP funds] should go out to his friends in ACORN,” she told Sean Hannity. “He is serious about this, about funneling this little bit of money back out to ACORN.”
That little bit of money? “This would be an additional $1.5 billion for ACORN,” she said. “And don’t forget, in over 12 states so far this year ACORN has been indicted for voter fraud.”
The bill itself never mentions ACORN. In fact, it specifically spells out who gets the money:
the Secretary of the Treasury shall transfer $1,500,000,000 to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and such Secretary shall use such amounts for assistance to States and units of general local government for the redevelopment of abandoned and foreclosed homes
And as noted in the article, ACORN has not been accused of voter fraud. Some of their employees have been accused of voter registration fraud. There is a big difference. There has been a raid on one of their Nevada offices, but after reading TPM's reporting on the topic, I've got to wonder if that was politically motivated as well. The right loves to demonize ACORN since they'd prefer as few poor and minority voters as possible actually get registered and have a chance to vote.
It's not up to the ACORN workers to verify those registrations. They can't throw them out because they think there are problems with them, and as BradBlog noted, it was the ACORN workers themselves that alerted election officials about the potential problems with some of the registrations they submitted in the first place.
They have to turn them in and let the local election offices sort them out. If that wasn't the case, I could decide to go volunteer for ACORN, and then proceed to throw out every registration from someone I assumed was a Republican because I didn't want them voting.
It's really disgusting to see these right wingers on Fox "News" turning ACORN into a dirty word day after day. I've got to wonder if it's not bad enough that ACORN might actually have a case against them for slander.

Something that has rarely been said anywhere is how conservatives are mixed up on this... Anyone that has worked in canvassing knows. People who are looking for a $9.00 an hour job try to do as little as possible to earn their keep. Instead of hitting 100 houses in a shift, they hit 5, go home for a few hours making up their numbers and voter registration forms, and come back with a bunch of crap. Any boss of an organization should of course notice irregularities, but in this case, it was mishandled, and eventually noticed. OF COURSE this isn't even close to voter fraud i.e. Diebold.
The point is, a bunch of hooligans got away with doing no work and making crap up. This doesn't happen in the republican side of things? Of course! I could have very well worked on the Republican side of things, so who's to say it didn't happen to them?
(For the record, I did no such thing. Instead, I was on the wrong side of that deal. Just absolving myself is all...)

I had to laugh about Michelle Bachmann's big panic over single party domination in Washington. Where was the concern over that when the Republicans were in charge of the White House, Senate, and House of Reps?

You sure got that right! I don't know about American newspapers, but that sentiment is pretty open in the conservative/business viewpoint items in Canadian newspapers. I've seen plenty of items griping about how those non-taxpaying loser low-income people always vote the wrong way (i.e. Liberal or New Democrat). Also, every time there's a protest about poverty or homelessness, the reaction is "We pay taxes; you don't; go to hell."
Ever get that kind of sentiment in the American media?

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont actually declares himself to be a "Democratic Socialist." I do believe he's been an American all 67 years of his life.
It really seems quite simple. ACORN is required by law to submit EVERY registration form collected by its workers. The only way ACORN could do right in your eyes is if they broke the law and didn't submit those registrations. Which if they had actually broken a law, I have no doubt, whatsoever, you would still be here freaking out about them.
And there is the flaw of the GOP these days. It has nothing to do with what ACORN does. You just hate them. PERIOD. Never mind that's how the government determines demographic shifts that influence such policies as mass transportation, water and electrical resources, and highway funds. Businesses use census numbers too to relocate to areas with a large labor pool of the quality they seek.

Bachmann is known to be a liar. One good example is that last October, she was on the Chris Matthews show and called for the media to investigate members of Congress who might be anti-American. She said the public would love an expose on this topic.
Later, she denied in part what she said and in fact changed what she said.
This was not only lying on her part; it was stupidity because what she originally said can easily be found on YouTube or other video.
And I agree with Uncle Joe....I hate her because she lies and is a real whack job.....I don't hate her because she is a conservative or pro life or that she made it on her own. I have a few good personal friends who are conservative and pro life. I have a very close friend who has started her own business, overseas, as a matter of fact....I admire the hell out of her (although I'll grant you that she is also a liberal, like me.....but I never knew that until after she started her business).

Bachmann is competing with Sarah Palin for press coverage.
A few things I'll never forget about Bachmann, which have more than convinced me she is crazy:
1. Shortly after she was elected to Congress for the first time, she was at Bush's State of the Union address. She fawned all over Bush, hugging and kissing him at least twice, and asking for an autograph.
2. Last year, when on the Chris Matthews' show, Mrs. Joe McCarthy gave the infamous talk about wanting to have the media investigate members of Congress who might be "un-American."
3. Shortly after McCain announced Palin as his running mate, Bachmann was on CNN and, with those crazy eyes and fake smile, defended Palin's foreign policy "experience" with the same line Palin gave....that she lives in Alaska and is close to and in fact can see Russia. Seriously....I don't care if you love Palin.....how can that be any sort of good "foreign policy experience?" Seriously!
4. I think in that same CNN interview, Bachmann talked about how great Palin was because she sold an airplane on eBay. Seriously....does that make her experienced to be VP, in line to become POTUS?
So, Bachmann may be competing with Palin for press coverage, but in fact, they are two peas in a pod!
I do believe her eyes are getting crazier by the day. And that voice makes my ears bleed.
