GOP Attacks Women : Weiner Responds
Thank you Congressman Weiner for calling out these hypocritical Republicans for their so-called conservative views. As Anthony Weiner pointed out here, Republicans are all for less government regulation, unless it means the right to regulate a woman's uterus. They don't want government to get between a patient and their doctor unless it means making sure that poor women don't have access to a legal procedure.
Sarah Seltzer at AlterNet has more on what the House has been keeping themselves busy with when they're not making sure they take care of their millionaire and billionaire campaign donors -- The GOP Unleashes a Horrifying Attack on Women:
Republicans came to D.C. "and immediately started putting the government in charge of every single pregnancy in America," said Rachel Maddow on Tuesday night.
She's right, and it's horrifying: the blows to women's rights keep coming out of Washington every hour, it seems. The latest? A bill that would strip Planned Parenthood of all funding. This bill is no surprise coming on the heels of a coordinated right-wing attack on Planned Parenthood and a spate of nasty undercover videos by discredited right-wing prankster Lila Rose. But it would do a lot of damage to a lot of women, explains Nick Baumann at Mother Jones:
"[It] will cut $327 million in family planning funding that goes to organizations like Planned Parenthood but that cannot be used to pay for abortions. This money, instead, is used to fund cancer screenings, birth control, and other health care services for poor people. The $327 million is the sum total of this sort of funding under current law. The House GOP is trying to zero out Planned Parenthood."
Republicans' twisted justification for cutting funds is that any money that goes to Planned Parenthood, even for cancer screenings, frees up the organization's funds for abortion. But the pragmatic reality shows that cutting such funding would be devastating to women, ending the ability for many of them to prevent pregnancy at low cost and thereby potentially causing more abortions. Cuts that would deprive women of cancer screenings are unconscionable. Because Planned Parenthood treats sexually active women as human beings, it has become target #1.
What's shocking about all these attacks is that the GOP doesn't even pretend to care about women this time around, as they sometimes do--instead, they're waging an all-out war on women's health. One of the most egregious salvos in this war on women is the treatment of "rape" exceptions to a proposed abortion funding ban. A massive outcry arose when the phrase "forcible rape" appeared in the notorious H.R. 3 bill--essentially redefining "acceptable" rape using an arbitrary term. It was a nasty bit of work, allowing for rape exceptions only if was the "right kind of rape." Note to Republicans, women said: all rape is forcible. The bill's sponsors claimed the offensive phrase had been removed. But according to reports on Wednesday, it was still there.
And yet another controversy has followed in this one's wake, thanks to anti-choice congressman Joe Pitts (PA) who introduced a new facet to yet another awful bill, H.R. 358. This new provision would allow emergency room and other hospital and health personnel to refuse emergency care rather than perform abortion procedures they disagree with. As Dante Atkins at Daily Kos writes, “This modification is simple: it would allow hospitals to make a 'decision of conscience' to let women die.”
Yes, you heard that right. Jill Filipovic at Feministe points out the irony that when hospitals refuse life-saving abortions to women, the fetus often dies along with her. So, she writes, “the entire purpose of this bill is to allow ideologues to refuse necessary, life-saving care to patients, if those patients happen to be pregnant.”

Wake up america, our rights, our freedoms, our liberty are being continuously and relentlessly attacked by what is becoming corporatacracy, going all the way back to ronald reagan. we are seeing what results of a corporate makeover/takeover of america. And anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see: corporate makeover of public education, corporate makeover of health care, corporate makeover of environmental protection, corporate makeover of unions, corporate makeover of wall street, corporate makeover of equal rights, corporate makeover of foreign policy, corporate makeover of the political system, corporate makeover of the courts and the list goes on. When will america wake up to the reality that we the people are being ruthlessly and relentlessly attacked, not by some foreign power but within, and by the greatest threat to democracy our country has ever experienced. 100 years of precedent protecting these freedoms is systematically being dismantled to be replaced by what, oligarchical share holders deciding first on profit and last on the worker. This is what is really meant by right to work state(s): the worker has no rights. This is what is really meant by corporatacracy: the people have no rights. Skyrocketing profits for the few (the rich) and what amounts to alms for the ignorant, undeducated, unrepresented, unprotected, no rights poor, the citizenry. If there is any single definition to what the wrong-wing is doing to this country and it's people it is this: no mercy! Is this what awaits us in the future, the corprorate takeover of america and the world as their playground. We are the most powerful nation in the world and if we lose democracy here at home, what then of the rest of the world? Will the oligarchs stop here, that is doubtless. They (the wrong-wing) are embarking on an experiment already tried by tyrants through out human history. Do they really have the arrogance to think that they will succeed where all others have failed? If we standby and let them have this power, then we will see what results of this selfish experiment and we, the people of this country, the greatest in human history will be to blame, because we let it happen!

conservative movement's motivation for this misogyny and for their fight against abortion rights. Control, control, control.
I wish I had a YouTube link for you all, but one documentary on the FLDS interviewed a man who had been excommunicated from the FLDS. Obviously he has disagreements with the FLDS because of his being kicked out, but one area he said he sided with the FLDS on against the government was the decision to raise the ages of consent for girls.
To summarize what he said, he said that if you get a young girl pregnant early and often, she will be less likely to seek a divorce, and less likely to consider an affair. She will "love" her husband because she has no other choice. If she has more children than she can handle her choices and her autonomy dwindle and she is firmly in control of the menz who is impregnating her. She will have no education, no independent resources, and no know-how to survive apart from him.
This to me is probably the key to the anti-choice movement's psychology. It chaps their asses that because of contraception and abortion, women can choose to delay motherhood indefinitely, they can educate themselves, they can build up independent resources of all kinds, and they will survive quite well if they choose to leave a man they're in a relationship with. This must upset conservatives very much so they try to literally attack women's access to contraception and abortion, and in the meantime they try to make us feel like horrible people for accessing both resources.
The GOP are the political embodiment of the abusive partner in a relationship with domestic violence.

For posting this.
That's some diabolical shit!
I used your summary and made some changes to it.
'If she (a poor a African American teen) has more children than she can handle her choices and her autonomy dwindle and she is controled. She will have no education, no independent resources, and no know-how to survive apart from welfare.'
When you apply this to a impovershed African Americans teens who become pregnant it becaomes a means to make sure African Americans don't succeed.
It damns another generation to poverty and it's trappings.
It makes a lot sense as to why the right would be so interested in African American fetuses.

You could really apply your summary to any minority group or persons living in poverty for that matter.
It all has the same effect, it keeps people down and out.

Love how the fetus worshiper holds up an abortion picture, they love to do that shit. But if you hold up a picture of a child living in squalor, extreme poverty or one blown to bits by a US drone then, well you know that's the kid's fault for being born, being there so on and so on. Fetus worshipers love to bring up the right of one floating around in an incubator because the only thing it can live off of is the mother. Once it's born they kick it to the curb and the mother is an irresponsible welfare whore for getting knocked up in the first place.

Well, yes, they are working right now on defunding Head Start and WIC and any other program that helps low income/needy people in this country. It's also the reason they want to defund education too, to keep the next generation stupid and stupid people are easier to control.
Back in the early 80's, income was so bad - just out of the army, a newborn and a 2-year old --- WIC was a lifesaver for all 4 of us.
But yeah... oh, wait... I was a newly-discharged vet... they've shown their contempt for veterans also - so it's kind of a twofer for them.

You keep posting flame bait, and I'll happily ban you, no more warnings.
We have a few easy rules, and we expect posters to follow them.
If we can intrude on women, how about men? Every sperm a man produces has the potential of creating a life. How about we have a bill where men have to account for all of their sperm? You must report every case of ejaculation, whether it was inside a woman, into a condom, or into your bed sheets. You must fill out a monthly emissions report and submit it to the Ministry of Potential Life by the 15th of each month. Failure to report will result in a fine or imprisonment. Any rogue sperm found and not accounted for will be tested and the perpetrator will be hunted down and prosecuted.
How's that sound?

The right wing always wants to say they want government out of their lives...except the reality is that they only want governement to get out of the way while they steal from the American people.
The GOP goes backwards never forward! Take abortion rights away from women, and men will suffer for it!!
It's pretty clear that the right feels that women should be punished for being women. That women who get abortions should do so via the coat hanger route, go to jail or get septicemia and die.
