George Will Thinks We're Getting Richer
While discussing the health care bill George Will claims that we're getting richer in the United States and that's one reason health care costs are going to go up. I'd love to know who he's talking about. Maybe his rich buddies because if he's talking about the general population of the United States, just the opposite is true. Sadly no one was allowed to follow up as it looked like Paul Krugman wanted to since the host decided to change the subject right after Cokie Roberts managed to get a few words in.
A Decade With No Income Gains:
The typical American household made less money last year than the typical household made a full decade ago.
To me, that’s the big news from the Census Bureau’s annual report on income, poverty and health insurance, which was released this morning. Median household fell to $50,303 last year, from $52,163 in 2007. In 1998, median income was $51,295. All these numbers are adjusted for inflation.
In the four decades that the Census Bureau has been tracking household income, there has never before been a full decade in which median income failed to rise. (The previous record was seven years, ending in 1985.) Other Census data suggest that it also never happened between the late 1940s and the late 1960s. So it doesn’t seem to have happened since at least the 1930s. Read on...

WILL: Can I say something that Paul and I might actually agree on?
VARGAS: Sure.
WILL: Twenty years from now, the country is going to be spending a larger portion of its GDP on health care than it is now for three reasons. We're getting older, and as we age, we get more chronic diseases that interact with one another. Second, we're getting richer; we can afford to buy more medicine. And, third, medicine is becoming more competent. Therefore, we're going to spend more on health care.
KRUGMAN: But there's a...
ROBERTS: The other thing is, you know, the health care industry is the biggest employer in most of our cities now. So when -- when the speaker talks about a job creation bill...
VARGAS: A jobs bill, exactly.
ROBERTS: ... it's true.
VARGAS: Let's shift a little bit to Charlie Rangel...

we wouldn't be spending more of a percentage of our GDP on health care. As a percentage the value would remain constant. So either we are NOT getting richer and health care costs are going up, or we are getting richer and health care costs are going up faster than we are getting richer.
Either way, health care costs are getting bigger, without any benefit to show for it. If the US lead the world in anything other than obesity, then maybe he might have an argument for high cost of health care.
to do lie! How fucking stupid do thes fools think we are?
I never watch any of them anymore. I just cannot stand to listen to them lie and spin.
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness and it is killing America!
After talking to my brother-in-law today, the republicans are still running with the idea that they can fool 40% of the people ALL the time.
Sadly, it still works.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
I hope it is not already dead...
ok...lets not...lets watch the closing ceremonies

Of course he does. He's a Chrisatian loon.
If the rate for his bullshit is going up, or he's shoveling more of it.
Christ, these creeps need to get off the tube, or live in the real world. George Will is an insulting bullshit merchant.
me-oww!
I'd like someone to tell Will to just shut the hell up.
Shut the hell up George, before you are absolutely 100 per cent wrong about everything. You are a pompous self satisfied know nothing.
"To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And,
at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between,
plus some things I can't remember, all rolled into one big "thing."
This is truth, to me. "

mescaline? He's off into some alternate reality that doesn't seem to be connected to this one.
Just the fact that Will & "Miss Morning Martinis" Roberts are on "This Week" ever week makes the show irrelevant
It's not all or nothing.
My blood pressure went down once I gave up Sunday Political Talk.
True story.
Mine too! It was rather easy to quit too.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
I quit the TV news in 2003, my sundays are much more enjoyable now.
I can catch all the lies online. But you know I hardly ever watch the clips anymore. I can't stand to listen to the corporate overpaid liars.

Oh, can I borrow a few bucks?
I have been saying for over 40 years that what we were doing is unsustainable. It cannot work for much longer. I guess I will be one that loses everything. Wife can't work, and my last two jobs just haven't paid enough. It a very sick economy we live in and it is going to collapse. I guess we might as well get ready to go take it back from the people that stole from us.
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness and it is killing America!
time on? 'Cause it isn't this one!

Oh to behold; the soiciopathic mind of the ultra rich conservative.
To be fair, I have no doubt George does think our wealth is increasing. Because, I am sure this trust fund windbag has seen an exponential increase in his own personal wealth.
Which makes this all the more pathetic. If George Will is doing great, then everyone must be doing great - even if they are not.
The worst statistical economy since the great depression is all a bunch of garbage, because George Will has bought 3 more mansions, and staffed them with dirt cheap immigrant labor. It's morning in George Will's America.
The fact that the rest of us are waiting for the last rites, never enters their tiny little skulls. Why should it? Not THEIR problem! "Can we get another round of tax cuts here?"
This is life in a nutshell for these psychotic bastards, which explains why they have NO compunction what-so-ever about spewing the most heinous, hate-filled bullshit on a daily basis.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Has he got a mouse in his pocket?
The truth will set you free but can you handle the truth?
...we give the free marketers Texas and/or Alaska. They can form their own country and run it any way they like. Then, when they bankrupt their new nation like they did Iceland, we can open up factories there, and pay their workers $5.00 a day to make running shoes.
Median income stays about the same, healthcare costs double.
On top of everything else that costs A LOT more since 2000, we have a lot less money in our pockets.
Unless you're in the top 1%. If you're lucky or good enough, you're income has tripled.
Chinese crap at Wal-Mart costs less, every measure of wealth and value, and every important commodity costs a lot more.
They buy the least amount they possibly can.
"Oh to behold; the soiciopathic mind of the ultra rich conservative" (Policy) you said it better than I could so I'll just add an AMEN to that .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
and an enemy of the American people.
Just my opinion.
George has undertaken rigorous research on this topic and knows what he's talking about. He phoned all his friends and apparently they are all doing much better than they were 10 years ago. Some have even gone to two holiday homes and an extra yacht for the kids, with crew, naturally.
MSM.
Millionaires Smooching Millionaires.
"We are getting richer" , Will is right , you see he means the top 5 % when he says "we" , the other 95 % don't exist in his little world .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
...twins, separated at birth.
How can two men be so incredibly wrong seemingly ALL of the time? I'm with project here. These people have an illness and it demands medical research to eradicate.
We're not going to get very far if you keep injecting logic into the conversation!
I dunno how he wraps his pointy head around that one.
Wages have been stagnant for nearly 30 years.
Jobs are being outsourced.
So maybe the nation is getting richer overall
But doubtful when it keeps getting multi-billion dollar bailouts
And we're in serious hock to the Chinese and Saudis for borrowed money
But it ain't floating all boats.
Here's where most of us are

but I'm sure not. Will has always been a master of making up his own facts. For a few brief moments in history, he was right about a few things, such as when he had had enough of Dubya... and he's generally correct in saying escalating the Afghanistan war wasn't a good idea. But that's about it. These days, he has a giant chip on his shoulder, and he mistakes being totally obnoxious with being assertive. His snarl and his condescension don't do his cause any good. He used to at least serve a purpose of sometimes intelligently representing the "other side" on talk shows, but these days he's just another ticked-off conservative making up shit to try to make his point.
Because "medicine is becoming more competent" is every bit as wrong as "we're getting richer". And I don't mean just the mangled English part of it. Why is it that this TV programs always highlight such ignorant uninformed people?
George Will is a real piece of work isn't he? Apparently all those riches aren't trickling down, particularly to the millions who already lack insurance and thousands who die every year because of it. And let's not mention the increasing millions, our children, who won't be able to afford it 5-10 years from now if we don't address this problem now.
More like a piece of shit....
a lying lowlife piece of shit.
I expect Will and his cronies to be habitual liars about this stuff. I am angriest at the "Host" who lets the bull be passed off as the truth. "The truth be damned" is the motto of TV news nowadays.

"What do you mean 'we' White Man?"
It wasn't a joke. You could tell by the arrow in the forehead.

The average American hasn't increased financially since the seventies.
I have a new iphone and an HDTV. I'm way better off than a person in china.
Tell em George!
Proof that Reslugs are soooo out of touch. Time to cut Bushes tax cuts for the richest Americans, like georgie boy.
People in the upper class think things are going great. Their salaries increased while the middle class's salaries flattened.
