Keith Olbermann on the latest drummed up fake controversy from Fox News:

OLBERMANN: First, the protesters were drugged up hippies. Then, they were anti-Semitic. Then, yesterday they were part of the Muslim Brotherhood. In our number one story now, the right wing has grasped at its next straw; the Occupy movement is actually being organized by the most vile of community organizations... ACORN.

Here's more from Steve Benen -- When in doubt, blame ACORN:

ACORN, of course, permanently closed its doors in March 2010, six months before the poll was taken. Groups can’t steal elections if they don’t exist.

Here we are now, more than a year and a half later, and ACORN is but a memory. But Fox News would have its audience believe the non-existent group is still up to no good. Today’s Fox News headline reads: “EXCLUSIVE: ACORN Playing Behind Scenes Role in ‘Occupy’ Movement.” [...]

How can a group that folded 19 months ago secretly conspire to bolster Occupy protests? Apparently, “sources tell” Fox News that people who used to work for ACORN have now taken on roles helping organize Occupy protests. In fact, Fox News reports that the former director of New York ACORN and his aides are now working for New York Communities for Change (NYCC), which is turn supporting demonstrations.

And as Keith pointed out, it's not exactly some secret or a "Fox exclusive" that the group was going to support Occupy Wall Street. They announced it here at the Huffington Post, last month -- Why We're Joining Occupy Wall Street .

The Majority Report's Sam Seder joined Keith to discuss the latest bit of desperation from Fox to discredit the OWS movement.

Apparently, Fox can't ever play any videos of the 60s protests. If they did, their audience would see images of police brutality just like what they did at Occupy Oakland.

In addition, apparently, Fox believes its viewers are now too old to remember that protesting inequalities and iniquities is as American as apple pie.

They'd only show the hardhats waving American flags and holding signs saying:"America love it or leave it!"

GOP talking points: all sound and fury signifying nothing.

Running out of new material lies.. Have they forgotten that the repub Alec-Kock link was exposed and the ACORN demonazation was a FRAUD...All you need to do is the research the topic and the game is over!

Stupid stuck hog mentality from the right wing zealots!

Smith_1's picture

knows that their idiot viewers won't research the topic. Actually, they're counting on it.

Unfortunately they will be believed by their pathetic fan base, who believe all the fiction FOX spews.

What gets me is that the Fox report is based exclusively on multiple anonymous sources. Now that's journalism!

I think it is safe to say that the OWSers have their first victory in hand.

They have managed to completely take the reich-wing off of its unified, daily talking points. The RePugniScum/Dirtbaggers and Fux Spews are not on the same page regarding the 99%ers. They are running scared and their rhetoric proves it. One day the protesters are this and the next day they are something else and each of the RePugniScum/Dirtbagger politicians are saying different things on the same day. Without their unified theme the reich-wingers look crazier than ever.

Congratulations OWS. You have shaken the reich-wing away from their unified, daily, mantra. You have moved them into a position of defense and made them look like the idiots they have always been.

Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.

I think you're right. Better still, it knocked that whole "We simply MUST reduce the deficit - everybody wants to..." meme right offa the teeviola. OWS deserves the highest kudos if that is is the only thing they accomplish.

I saw this ACORN stuff pop up on newspaper comments and was wondering where the heck it came from. You've got to admire an organization that can manipulate gullible hippies over a year after it was put out of business. That said, is it really a surprise that former community organizers would keep on organizing the community, even if they aren't getting paid for it?

BeyondLeftandThenSome's picture

Yes indeed, well done OWS. Thank you. They've completely changed the narrative in a months time. Two months ago they were spanking the monkey at the thought of stealing our Social Security.

99%

It says so much with two words. I started to use it a few days ago after reading a historical article about WWII. The fact we both used it in similarly nearly simultaneously can often be an indication it is on the verge of widespread near instant adoption in public discourse. It's also nice that it infers the idiocy of Nazism without labeling anyone a nazi or calling anyone hitler.

It had one of the best lines ever to describe the Republicans, which I use in my signature. Granted, President Shepherd (Michael Douglas) was referring specifically to his opponent, Bob Rumson (Richard Dreyfuss), when he used that line in his impromptu press conference at the climax of the film, but the concept applies equally well to the entire Republican party as a whole.

"Whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, the Republicans are not the least bit interested in solving it. They are interested in two things, and two things only: making you afraid of it, and telling you who's to blame for it."

Indeed.

How long would Fox news last if we had a Fairness Doctrine along with a truth in reporting law?

If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.

..was wondering why Fixed News didn't pimp the New Black Panther Party as being the secret puppet masters of OWS.

After all, like our own president, they are scary black men whose only goal is to take down whitey.

Black Panthers + OWS = grand slam for Fixed News.

Then it occurred to me that Michelle Malkin has already informed us that 99% of the participants in OWS are white.

Gee thanks, Michelle Malkin. If you would have just kept OWS multicultural, your new OWS monster would be primed for release.

Funny. So FOX viewer is part of the white supremacist movement. Fox News is playing behind scenes role in the white supremacist movement.
.
Just like (Now follow along here) George Soros' "Open Society" between 2007 and 2009 gave grants of $3.5 million to the Tides Center. Ok. The Tides Center is a San Francisco-based group that acts almost like a clearing house for other donors, directing their contributions to liberal non-profit groups. OK? Among others the Tides Center has partnered with are the Ford Foundation and the Gates Foundation. Oh my gosh but ok.
.
Disclosure documents also show Tides gave Adbusters grants of $185,000 from 2001-2010 (that is ten fucking years folks), including nearly $26,000 between 2007-2009 (that is $26,000 over three years or... let's see here (fingers pounding the calculator...) hold on... just a minute... $8,666.65 a year) .
Aides to Soros say any connection is tenuous and that Soros has never heard of Adbusters (which Reuters describes as "an anti-capitalist group in Canada."). Oh snap. Then two years later, Adbusters "brainstormed" up the "Occupy Wall Street" campaign. So FOX News says George Soros conceived of OWS and is funding it a la Koch and Dick Armey and the Teabaggers. This is how FOX News connects the dots. And now ACORN is behind OWS? My head hurts.
.
By the way the folks at Adbusters aren't particularly willing to credit Soros for this exchange of money, telling Reuters that they "wish he would give Adbusters some money, we sorely need it ... He's never given us a penny." Oh damn.....

Muslim Brotherhood, ACORN, bongo drums, professional homeless, derelicts, ex-cons, vagrants, thugs and criminals... Anybody remember how the code-word, "outside agitators" was meant to prepare the TV viewers for the attack dogs, rubber bullets and locked & loaded, bayonet-prodding redneck National Guard phalanxes? This is what the press is for, this is what the media DOES in America. It paints a little picture...

Even if we expect truth and facts from our news organizations. Even if we expose the lies. Even if journalists report so far above their heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if God in Heaven above comes down and points his hand at our side of the political spectrum; even if every man woman and child held hands together and prayed for truth to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still believe the crap Fox reports because they WANT to believe it!

It just doesn't matter if they report facts.

IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!

IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!

IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!

Its not a matter of fact vs fiction, right vs wrong...its a matter of belief. Morons who watch Fox News don't care if its true or not....don't care if stories contradict.....DON'T CARE if there is obvious propanda and grasping at straws. They'll believe at least one of the lies, it will stick, and the next bumbling idiot will believe the next lie...and so on. Fox News is like a drug dealer pushing stupidity-heroin to junkies who need their ignorance fix.

TreadingWater's picture

"Wizard's First Rule: people are stupid." Richard and Kahlan frowned even more. "People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

Wizard's First Rule, by Terry Goodkind. Interesting books, dull TV series.

For once, people on the left have framed themselves correctly as the "99%" instead of waiting to accept some right-wing propagandistic label. We've seen this before - "death tax", "death panels", "tax equity" - when you accept the terms your opponents use to frame the argument, you've lost. When you get the enemy to start using your terms, you're winning.

There's a very famous case in history in which a moderate majority party, partly in jest, accepted the framing of a radical minority party and soon foun themselves out of power for good. I won't mention the specifics, but intelligent people know what it is.

Sorry, but there must be a lot of uneducated folks out there for Fox to exist.
