Eric Cantor Refuses to Say Ensign or Sanford Should Step Down
By Heather Monday Jul 13, 2009 4:30am
On Fox News Sunday when asked if John Ensign or Mark Sanford should resign given that their staying in office is making the GOP look like hypocrites for claiming to be the party of family values, Cantor punts and says they're not a party of personalities, but of ideas. Anyone think he'd have given a different answer if he were being asked about Democrats resigning?
He also completely ignores the part of Wallace's question where he mentions the potentially illegal use private or government money. And like the good little Villager, Wallace doesn't press him on it either. I'm surprised he even asked him the question in the first place. Heaven forbid he'd want to come down too hard on the Republicans' new "rising star", as Cantor was introduced for the segment.
WALLACE: Finally, when you’ve got Republican leaders like Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina or Nevada Senator John Ensign admitting to extramarital affairs and staying in office, questionable use of either private funds or state money, in the case of Sanford, doesn’t the GOP, with all its talk of family values, risk looking like a bunch of hypocrites?
CANTOR: Look, I mean, is anyone happy to see all that have happened? No. I mean, it’s not good. But listen. We have our thoughts with their families and they themselves.
However, look. The party is not just about personalities. It’s about ideas. It’s about our ability to go out and prove that yes, we can lead this country again. So we have got a plan. We are talking about the solutions that actually can address some of the problems that working people in this country are facing, and we’re going to do that over the course of the next 16 months.
WALLACE: But if you’re going to talk the talk, why not walk the walk and say, “You know what? They should step down?”
CANTOR: Well, listen. I mean, again, I say in the instance of the people in South Carolina and Nevada, it is up to them, and those are the elected individuals by those states.
And again, it’s not about, necessarily, these personalities. The direction of this country -- and the challenges that we face are enormous. And we ought to be talking about how to go about creating jobs again. We ought to be talking about the things that matter most to people in this country.
WALLACE: Congressman Cantor, we want to thank you. Thanks for coming in today and please come back, sir.
CANTOR: Pleasure. Thank you, Chris.

These people are amoral idiots. Liars, greedy fucking pigs wallowing in the public trough. There is no other place these people could get this much money by being this stupid.
They lie, they cheat, they steal, with the help of their corporate masters.
They have been leading us down the road to the slauter house for their profit. They don't give a shit about you or your family or the country for that fact. These are totally greed driven people!
republicanism is a mental illness!!!
Two thoughts:
1) I thought Fox News never covered bad things on Republicans.
2) THESE people are amoral idiots as opposed to McGreavy and Tim Mahoney who did virtually the same things - yet I'll bet most here don't even know who Mahoney is. (of course they won't admit it here. They will google it and find out. - of course they never will wonder why they never heard of Mahoney.)
1. Of course, Fox Noos labeled Sanford as a (D) when this was first reported. Now, Wallace throws a softball to Cantor and never challenges his BS answer. Party of ideas? Seriously?
2. No one here is defending McGreavy or Mahoney. But, did either of those gentleman get elected by preaching about “family values” and playing the holier-than-thou politician? (It's possible that Mahoney did considering he was taking Foley's congressional seat)
I live in Florida so I don't need to use "the google"
in Palm Beach Co. Fortunately, Foley was not.
preach on, brother Lying Douchebag. preach on.
was saved by his wife Jenny. the republicans here in SC were ready to dump his ass but she talked them out of it. Why she did I haven't a clue. Maybe she just didn't want him moping around the house with nothing to do but think of his soulmate and her snapping vagina. I can't figure out our looney bin of politicians republican or democrats( little d intentional in reference to SC Dems.)that wallow around in SC. I wouldn't give you a nickel for them all.
have to bail out the little boy. We are ready to throw him out with his bathwater. Who ever would be put in the seat, a general election would be held next year, not in 2012.
The scumbag needs to leave NOW.
Las Vegas will still be a second home to Elvis.
keep all their fools in the limelight...They have no one else...That includes Cantor!
Cantor doesn't want to put his opinion on the record, becaruse he may be hiding his own secrets. If they get exposed then he won't look like more of a hypocrit than he already is.
If you are Democrate out you go, but if you are a PUKIE, you quote King David, inflate your remorse for all it's worth, cry in public, shred your clothes, wear sack cloth and ashes, make a public spectacle out of yourself, then angle for a book deal.
Really??? I seem to recall a certain President who had rallies for him by fellow members.
In this case, we have other Republicans pressuring them to resign.
I don't think he ever painted himself as a moral figure or authority or campaigned that way. Also, since you are such a fan of the Great Paper, why are you defending these assholes? Do you really think they carry your water? Sanford would throw you and your rights over for a weekend romp with his "soulmate" in a
heartbeat. And Ensign, well let's just say he should go back to taking care of animals and practice his moralizing on them.
Leave the innocent animals out of this. Ensign shouldn't be touching animals either. He's a scumbag -- let him clean out porta-potties.
..you wear diapers and make a spectacle of yourself in a public men's toilet.
Yeah...David Craig, er, I mean, Larry Vitter. I mean, "Wide Stance" Ensign. No, make that....
The republican party has proved time and time again they have no morals or values and they only show fake outrage as a way to get the ignorant people of this country to vote for them.
I know one thing is for sure, whoever runs against him will get my vote.
Eric Cantor is SOOO out of touch with reality. He thinks his party is one of IDEAS, when clearly for at least the last election cycle it's been personalities and only personalities (think Limbo, Palin, even McCain although barely). Ideas? ZIP! More tax breaks for the rich, trickle-down, no advance on health care (they'd be thrilled if the present system kept right on bankrupting our nation), government can't do anything right (and why? Because they've BEEN (in charge of) the government for the last 16 yrs. before 2009!).
I've contacted Cantor's office often; his staff can't justify his idiocy (when questioned). And unless they have an inside deal with DC (re: Congressional health care coverage or anything else), when they're done taking notes for Cantor, they join the Main St. mess just like the rest of us. Even THAT doesn't seem to get their attention...the Whigs + Follette Progressives could make a comeback soon, even from their graves, as it's possible soon a dead Progressive will have greater value than a live Republican..
Um, right. Because Sarah Palin is a frakkin' EINSTEIN. She's brilliant! Ought to win the Nobel Prize for Quitting!
The GOP is the party of racist white Christian theocrats.
And don't forget, Palin had five kids so somehow that adds to her mighty qualifications. Or according to Norah O'Donnell and Mika it does.
...
..they'd probably still be in office. They are out of touch and thankfully, OUT OF OFFICE, more to fall next election.
Hopefully, we can start getting some Progressives elected in the next few years and get away with from this PAY for PLAY lobbying BS we're putting up with.
Its time for a THIRD PARTY; one that is really based on morality and values. One that isn't influenced by big money or special interests.
I can dream, can't I?
They are the party of ideas? The only idea they have ever had is "tax breaks". Once they use those two words they have nothing left.
Had either of those two been democrats all we would have heard from the republicans is what a disgrace they are to the human race. The would have investigations going on and everything. One of their own? Not so much.
Just a personal observation, Cantor always looks like the chile he ate the night before has just kicked in and he doesn't know if he can make it to the restroom in time.
... shown by the depth of their discourse. When Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are your party spokesmen, and your other leading lights are Michael 'Homeboy' Steele, Michelle 'Guano Loco' Bachmann, and Sarah the Serial Quitter ...
Well, that about sums it up.
I know it is just too early in the a.m. for either of you to go in depth on the fallacies of Republican ideas.
Perhaps Ricci's testimony will be a spark for the both of ya.
I was sitting here smiling and waiting for you to chime in on this post. If Ricci's testimony does spark something he's a fireman so he can extinguish that spark quickly. As for going in depth, I try not to go in over my head because I don't want to muss my hair.
From Craig to Vitter then Ensign and now Sanford's "ideas" helped put your party in this moral cesspool, Eric.
Keep em comin...freaks.
I know an ad homonym attack sounds petty, but...
I just can't get past that ridiculous Prep School voice of his.
Looks like the love-child of Mr. Peppermint and Icky Twirp.
a metroplexual act unseen north of Collin County or south of Waxahatchie.
Isn't anyone questioning Ensign paying off the lady he was sleeping with? Seems to me the republican party would see this as either hush money or pay for play money by Ensign. Wouldn't their party frown on such things no matter who did it? There is a term for a woman who gets money for having sex isn't there?
A guy with the leadership skills to bang a subordinate's wife, then cowardly gets mommie and daddy to slip the angry husband hush money is on par with child molestation to me. I wouldn't trust that fool making me a burger at McDonalds.
Are there any republicans that you would trust to make you a burger at McConalds? I can't think of any I would trust to do that. Palin would quit half way through the task. McCain would forget to add the burger and Cantor would try to think of some way to make you just forget what you ordered.
Palin : Would quit halfway through.
McCain: Would forget to include burger.
Cantor: Would tell you it's not about the burger, it's about the idea of the burger.
Bush : Can't remember the word 'burger.'
Cheney: Would manage to shoot you in the face while making the burger.
Sanford: Would go to Argentina for the beef, forget about burger while making mad, passionate love to his soulmate.
Steele: Burger comes with lame attempt to rap.
Bachmann: Refuses to make burger because the whole concept of taking various portions of the cow, grinding it up, and redistributing it as patties smacks of Socialism.
Reid: Runs a Burger King franchise where the Republicans truly get it their way.
Glenn Beck would would add a side of tea bags.
BillO would send a camera crew to film you eating the burger.
Rush would eat the burger himself.
Bush remembers the word, he just pronounces it burgular.
Modified quote, from a quote, from the book, Sugar Blues. HowEVAH, isn't it typical Repuke/Punk/Entitled style to suck in your aging parents to do some of your dirty work?? After all, they created the amoral POS, did they not?
PENCIL NECK CANTOR is probably a member of the C Street Choirboyz, too. What a sick bunch of entitled, pricks.

There is a term for a woman who gets money for having sex isn't there?

Wife?
Republican believe marriage is between a man and a woman that he can cheat on.
I can't remember who said that, but it seems to be true.
Bill Clinton?
Mon, 07/13/2009 - 05:48 — pissed off patricia
There is a term for a woman who gets money for having sex isn't there?
What kind of sex isn't there? If it isn't there isn't it not sex. Or is this the "if a tree tree falls with no wood is there a sapling" kind of question?
First we have to determine what the meaning of "is" is.
be.
Ensign was the john, and that lady was the hooker, and her husband was the pimp...
thats how they all act...all the estranged husband is doin is asking for more money...
After the Fed Ex letter he asked for extra helpings.
So this crackpot says his is a Party of Ideas? What about the "ideas" that these adulturers had? Those are good ideas?
and cranking in the sink.
I guess they came up with the idea that cheating on your wife, doing funky things in a men's room and wearing diapers just for the buzz of it, are things that are okeedokee if you are an elected official from the Republican party. Probably if you are the average guy on the street it's not so okeedokee with them.
What about in Okeedokee Louisianna?
The Republican party did come up with the idea of invading a country which posed no harm to the US. It wasn't a good idea, but it was an idea. See, Cantor doesn't say they are the party of "good" ideas, just ideas in general.
The also came up with awesome ideas of wiretapping, torture, outting a CIA agent and starting a recession.
They come up with ideas that are intended to insure their economic hegemony (consequently, socio-political, as well). Since St. Ronnie, our politicians' ideas have become increasingly despotic, desperate and despicable. One could try to blame Karl Rove, but he's just a product--and not a very good one.
Which leads me to my constant refrain: the Corporatists who currently command the lion's share of our global resources are the puppetmasters. Until We the People get that on a visceral level--and use the internet and other tools to effect change--we will continue to snarf down the bipartisan red herrings with which they so gleefully distract us.
Apparently these guys Ensign and Sanford were part of a weird "church" in DC called the Family and when my husband and I were watching Rachel Maddow interview the guy that researched them, it all became clear: these guys are pseudo-nazichristianswingerkinkypervyfreaks. No wonder the system is broken! But the real question is: why would any woman lower herself to get banged by these guys?
I'm rather fascinated by the incredible sense of entitlement that these assholes have assumed. It takes some serious delusion to think that you are chosen when the elections were either rigged or you campaigned on a platform that you obviously do not really believe in (as evidenced by subsequent behavior) and win votes from people who believe that you really believe what your spewing. Frankly, they all appear to be the spawn of the devil.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GkGaiUyqxE
don't put women on any pedestals; they're just as capable of being "nazichristianswingerkinkypervyfreaks" as men (it being a mental illness not a genetic disorder)...
..........comes to mind.
Their main idea seems to be "Do as we say, not as we do."
Can you imagine going to your mom and dad and asking them for money to pay off the woman you have been cheating on your wife with and then actually taking the money from them? What kind of person does that? Has he really no shame? Looks like a shameless weasel to me.
has a history of going to mommy and daddy when he gets into trouble. He needed tough love a long time ago.
also imagine that the reason he's gone to them is to convince them to help him facilitate a cover-up, and then they actually agree!
like (shameless mother and) father like son, it seems (them's some family values!!)
Got to wonder if daddy got caught doing something similar with mommy sometime earlier...
And Ensign is a 51-yr-old US Senator!! He should doubly embarrassed - for taking the sleazy payoff cash from Mommy and Daddy, and for being tied to their apron strings well into middle age.
How pathetic and weird. What else do Mommy and Daddy pay for?
to do his "dirty laundry"... or is he?
because the rest has started to fizzle out.
know whether to laugh or laugh?
but I consider family values "ideas" on how to honor one's commitments. How do you define "ideas" Eric? Or, will it take a press op and four pages of someething that say nothing substantive?
Can't or What?
asked those kinds of questions. For a second there he was almost like a reporter but what would a reporter be doing on faux news? Oh and a tip of my cap to the republican burger post, A+
Seemed highly scripted to me. Wallace gets to pretend he's actually a journalist, and Cantor practices sounding erudite and selflessly accepting of 'regrettable, but temporary, lapses in judgment.' Then "Nothing here to see, people, let's move on..."
Republicans living in an all boys sex club dorm on C Street?
...CANTOR: Well, listen. I mean, again, I say in the instance of the people in South Carolina and Nevada, it is up to them, and those are the elected individuals by those states.(Is that your final answer)?
How Machiavellian of him...
A fascist is one whose lust for money or power is combined with such an intensity of intolerance toward those of other races, parties, classes, religions, cultures, regions or nations as to make him ruthless in his use of deceit or violence to attain his ends.
--Henry A. Wallace
............comes to mind, Bolton, Bush I, II, Kissinger, Delay, Feith, kneepads Nancy, kissy-faced Reid...........too long a list.
the gop trogs were foaming at the mouth to get Clinton impeached for a fuckin blow job, and demanding his resignation.
Yet when their own are guilty of worse things, they blame everyone but themselves.
FUCK THEM.
Chris Wallace. Those were some hardball questions. I could see Can't-or quaking in his boots.
See you all later. Gonna go celebrate my birthday.
I wish you all the best... we'll keep the light on! ♥
Happy Birthday to you! If you like, I can celebrate your birthday for you tonight. I'm good at celebrating. :)
Go for it POP. I'll POP one for you tonight as well.
Reading your comment caused a big :) here
..I'll toast ya with some Jack Daniels later.
Hope you don't mind?
Go for it surfjac. Jack used to be a friend of mine.
In the great sign of Cancer......a tip of the hat, and a toast to you come Friday. Being a regimented Virgo, I only whoop it up on Fridays, unless I'm on vacation.
Just wanted to say hey, out of respect of my big brother. Lost him in Feb.'01 to gilboblastoma(sp.)from Agent Orange, we assume. Man, oh man, we used to pull some all nighters back when we were all crazy.
Thank you for your service, and many, many blessings in the coming years.
And these clowns - with their pants around their ankles - claim the moral high ground. Biggest bunch of hypocrites on earth.
*
That secret religious group they all belong to - the "Family" tells them they are god's anointed and because they're so special - they can sin and god doesn't care.
Seriously - that's what they believe. They've got a religious cult trying to fill DC with amoral brainwashed nincompoops to run America. They've been doing this for about 80 years now.
*
Yes, I find this "Family" BS very depressing, but I guess I am not too surprised. And every time I have seen it mentioned, it is always about Republicans, like Sanford and Ensign.
Why not deal with ALL Congresspeople in it? Yes, I know -- Democrats don't want Democrats revealed, and GOPers don't want GOPers revealed. I say it doesn't matter -- let me see ALL the names of ALL the congresspeople in it -- whether they've broken any laws (yet) or not.
I can assure you I would NEVER support or vote for anyone who was ever in this group. But, of course, that's why it is secret.
Senators Don Nickles (R., Okla.), Charles Grassley (R., Iowa), Pete Domenici (R., N.Mex.), John Ensign (R., Nev.), James Inhofe (R., Okla.), Bill Nelson (D., Fla.), and Conrad Burns (R., Mont.) are referred to as “members,” as are Representatives Jim DeMint (R., S.C.), Frank Wolf (R., Va.), Joseph Pitts (R., Pa.), Zach Wamp (R., Tenn.), and Bart Stupak (D., Mich.).

Amended: From Raw Story (Published: July 11, 2009)... Dave Neiwert, a dedicated student of extremist groups, brought together a variety of items relating to YWAM’s aims for worldly domination, commenting that what he found especially interesting was “the way these supposedly forthright Christians are now busy covering the tracks connecting them to The Path to 9/11. All this snooping is obviously making them nervous.”

Fascism always needs a passionate 'cause' to hide behind and the hypocrites are the perfect fertile ground looking for the 'quick fix' the 'get rich ponsi scheme, the 'easy out', the 'cop out' because their shallow souls have already been bought.
Aren't congresspeople supposed to have excellent English/speaking skills? WAY too many of them (and almost 100% of GOPers) are simply horrid. Almost every time they speak (on teevee at least) they begin their schtick with "Look!" or "Listen!" or "Well!" or a combination of all.
If this child is a rising star in the GOP, the Dems should have nothing to worry about. Then again, most Americans don't even see their talk as fingernails on a chalkboard.
And if you see this observation as "nit-picking," let me tell you -- I have never seen someone who does this, who turns out to be a great congressperson.
to also have excellent English/writing skills. But I do agree.
They should start their schtick with "Stop" before adding "Look" and "Listen." Otherwise children will walk into the street while performing the other two commands. WAY.
Youtube yanks again!
Go ahead just try to extract any meaning from that last sentence. Then contemplate what a complete nincompoop you have to be to let something like that emerge from your mouth. Then let it sink in what kind of dolt could listen to that and think that it made any sense. These are the 20-something% of hard-core wingnuts to whom the Repugnants pander - and they control everything from local school boards to multinational corporations to shadowy organizations like The Family. They're embedded in American society like a colony of cockroaches under the kitchen sink, and they will be just as impossible to eradicate.
Scary.
"Look, I mean, is anyone happy to see all that have happened?"
First, I did not see anything. Second, I would have been happy to see all that have happened, but I didn't look.
Sure, we all know that his tune would be different if it were a Democrat, but what we need is for a reporter or other pundit to ask Cantor (or others), point-blank, "If you think Ensign and Sanford should stay in office, do you agree with Bill Clinton's decision not to resign? Do you believe that he should not have been impeached?" Or Eliot Spitzer. Or, if you reword the question a little bit, John Edwards.
The unspoken assumption of IOKIYAR should be *spoken* a bit more often.
And maybe every Republican (and Blue Dog Democrat, they're just as bad or worse) should be asked if they think they could withstand the kind of justice that was meted out to Don Siegelman. A little bit of 'sauce for the goose' rhetoric could go a long way.
Eric Cantor, Republican PUSSYWHIP ?
Anything like Cool-Whip?
Everyone knows Cool-Whip comes in a can.
for a bigger bang...
Quartet?
Reslugs are nothing but bigoted, lying hypocrites, that love to cheat on their wives.
I keep waiting for Cantor to come out of the closet..
Anyway, if you want to make sense out of why the GOP isn't calling for resignations from these party "elders" who have sinned mightily.... I refer you to the story Rachel Maddow did on the book entitled The Family, if you haven't already seen it or heard about it. The GOP, and people like Sanford and Ensign, see themselves as part of an elite ruling class in which the same rules don't apply when they fall from grace, whether it's breaking the law, moral lapses, or unethical behavior. That's why the King David story from Sanford. King David did some horrible things, but according to The C Street Family rationale, he was God's chosen leader, therefore God didn't judge, punish, or demand he step down.
Am I the only one who thinks Cantor has that Gay Porn Star look about him?
[Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm just saying.]
Like this?:

I WOULD be surprised if this ass hat said they should step down. These spineless, slippery turds all cover their own political ass, and that of their repuke/fascist party members.
I think they all suck each others' ass, and it would be a breach of trust for them to say ANYTHING derrogatory about the other. It's a "brotherhood of pimps".
This particular disgusting sleezeball makes me want to vomit when I see his pathetic puss on the screen. His voice puts me over the "want to vomit" stage.
Pigs....ALL OF THEM!!
He doesn't want to go up against La Familia. They'll get him. Worse than criticizing Rush.
What does he look like without his glasses?
http://www.superman-picture.com/Superman_1.jpg
Is Cantor gay?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
He's got that "I'm hiding something look," like Larry Craig, David Drier and Lindsay Graham.
He did go to a Britney Spears concert. Draw your own conclusion there...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm7hfclFPD8
I'm wondering how anyone can take this douchenozzle seriously after he presented a budget with no numbers in it. Mind you, we are talking about Fox News, the same network who presents William Kristol as an "expert".
get through two sentences without spitting up some boilerplate bullsh*t that completely avoids the question? Can any "journalist" (I know, that's expecting way too much from Chris Wallace) call them on it and just say "WTF did that mean, and why don't you answer my question in plain direct English"?
If it were a Democrat Cantor would be flopping around on the floor like a fish out of water in a frothy rage demanding he step down or be impeached just like Clinton over Lewinsky.
I truly loathe these hypocritical bastards.
Hell, it's CANTOR who should step down. I am so sick of listening to his whining whimpy pubescent voice I could spit. He makes me want to puke. Why doesn't he get out of politics, become a rabbi, and leave the politicking to pros?
The simple question--Why not? What makes this any different then what impeachment hearings were held for President Clinton? The answer is no and Senator Cantor should step up and be true to the rhetoric that the Republican party claims to espouse for 'family values'. On that alone Senator Cantor should be standing for the resignations of these to men. You can bet if it was a Democratic that was caught with his pants down that they would be putting out the rally cry for resignation. Stop the hypocrisy and stand up for what you believe in.
