It looks like Newt Gingrich got the latest GOP memo for the week following President Obama's speech on counterterrorism -- we can never end this "war on terror" because the so-called terrorists are never going to end it. So therefore we must be engaged in a perpetual state of war from now until the end of time.

Of course he managed to get in a personal attack as on the President as well by calling him "naive," which is what I assume he had to settle for, since even CNN's Candy Crowley might have said something if he'd just been done with it and called him the n-word or "boy" instead. I don't think there's a week that goes by where he's not calling President Obama some sort of name, whether it's "food stamp president" or welfare lover, or Socialist, or whatever the nasty theme of the week is coming from the right.

And I'll repeat what we've been saying around here for years on end now, which is why in the hell is this disgraced former Speaker of the House and direct mail order scam artist being given a platform on these shows week after week in the first place?

But no, here he is on CNN telling everyone to be afraid of their own shadows or the terrorists might be coming to get you:

GINGRICH: I think it's was stunningly, breathtakingly naïve. He says at one point, wars have to end. Well, Trotsky said, “You may not care about war, but war cares about you.”

Right after you have somebody beheaded in London, you have a bomb go off in Boston, you have the Iranians, as you were just told by Congressman Paul, every day trying to penetrate our systems in cyber. You have an Iranian nuclear program underway.

And the president announces cheerfully, “The war's going to end because I'm not happy being a war president.” […]

You have problems in northern Nigeria, and the Chinese volunteering to send troops to Mali. You have problems in Libya [...]

This is part of the problem we've had in two administrations now. No one wants to talk honestly about the fact that there is a radical Islamism on offense. It is on offense across the planet. It's what killed people in Boston […] This stuff's going on everywhere and we will never be at peace in the pre-1941 sense that we are not threatened and that we don't have to actively take measures all the time. […]

No one wants to talk honestly about how big the threat is, how widespread it is, how fanatic it is, and how in its own mind, it's totally legitimate.
