David Shuster's Hypocrisy Watch: Eric Cantor

David Shuster takes Eric Cantor to task for getting his facts wrong during his interview on Meet the Press.
There is nothing in any bill about a train to Las Vegas. The stimulus bill does contain $8 billion for high speed rail projects but the entire pot of money goes to the Dept. of Transportation. The Secretary Ray LaHood, a Republican will decide how to spend the money. But there is nothing in the bill or any other referring to any particular train project or idea.
Congressman Cantor produced another apparent whopper while criticizing the budget. He said Republicans will offer an alternative.
.....
Wow! The Republicans are going to produce their own budget proposal except watch Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell on ABC's This Week.
.....
Oh those silly little procedures like producing an alternative budget. Clearly Senate Republicans are not interested in producing an alternative budget despite Congressman Cantor's claim.
Congressman Cantor when you highlight honesty and are dishonest in the very same interview that's hypocrisy, and it's wrong.

Think I'm first.
in the interest of transparency...when Mr. Cantor appears on tv...he should be wearing his fuzzy hair and big clown feet.
Yes Fred, you are.
The republicans are just flailing around. They have no message except that they don't agree with the President, no matter what he does or says.
"They have no message except that they don't agree with the President, no matter what he does or says."
hmmmm..... :-)
I almost makes me want to turn on a TV, but not quite.
Join US!!!
Mwaaahahahahahaaaaa!
And Gopers ?
Nawwwwwwww. Can't be. They wouldn't. They couldn't. They shouldn't
I told them no no no no. They said yes yes yes yes.
Ain't this bullshit a mess.
Here Newtie, here newtie. good boi.
arf arf arf.
They lie, contradict themselves, fight each other, zero leadership, etc. The GOP can't even see that the Nation is sick of their bullshit. And this Cantor dude is Palin with a dick.
Republicans may win a few local elections in 2010, but they're done Nationally.
CantOr is poor mans Romney.
Bravo CantOr, all LV needs to hear is their city name and funding and that'll tighten screws on Obama. Spin'em CantOr!
we here in LV and surrounding areas have lots of clout (maybe you meant our congressional delegation?). The dumb asses that live here don't even want rail running through town to help fight traffic issues here. This place is the lowbrow center of the universe. They don't want rail to California because that would mean missing the usual and horrible car accident that ties up traffic for hours. This town is just a collision of old people, inbreds and the amazingly stupid.
and I've got to concur with that last statement.
And as a Florida resident, LV makes us look downright enlightened.
The GOP in it's arrogance and denial, can not accept that they ain't in charge anymore....and honestly, it's amusing to watch them crumble.
Over at Kos, Bill from Portland has it nailed. He said the Republicans suffer from "competence envy".
the Democrats can pass anything they want. They don't need to concede anything to the GOP...if the GOP wants to stonewall...the Democrats take to the airwaves then and hammer them...just like the GOP always did.
Reid and Pelosi are CRUMMY politicians. There is NO reason to seek compromise. The Democrats have clear majorities because the public is tired and wants ACTION...ACTION in their favor.
I've always felt that Reid & Pelosi are weak, weak, weak! I wish they'd find some stones--even one set between the 2 of them would be a vast improvement.
What ever happened to a good old(e) fashioned filibuster? These politicians need to start actually being politicians....instead of cowering in the corner everytime someone from the GOP says "boo"! Imagine what we could accomplish if we had some real, take-no-prisoners leadership in both houses? Especially now, with the GOP in such sad shape...what a missed opportunity.
For instance, how about they (Pelosis & Reid) start using a bully pulpit to call out these idiots like Cantor and expose this GOP nonsense for what it is: the practice of repeating a lie so many times that it becomes truth? That has been going on for far too long now, and the Democrats need to kill that BS for once and all!
... is fine if an opponent's position is equally valid.
It's unnecessary and outright stupid to compromise when your opponent is promoting something that is wrong and/or illegal, like more tax cuts or warrantless wiretaps.
And far too often, the Democratic version of compromise also includes conceding the argument before fighting. It's like they're chronically afraid of being right.
Reasonable people make reasonable decisions--and right now this country desperately needs reasonable representation. Unfortunately...tragically...the GOP is behaving in an unbelievably irresponsible & potentially devastating (for you & I) manner.
The Democratic leadership needs to accept that that is the situation--it's sad, but true. This is the path the GOP has chosen. Now, Reid & Pelosi need to stop pussy-footing around with these infantile anarchists, and get REAL!!!
Dems, grab the bull by the horns and start acting like real Americans! Do your G.D.'d job!!!
Hell, even Mitch McChinless gave a more stirring feigned outrage speech on the AIG bonuses than Reid did yesterday. Pathetic.
... the Emperor's Fashion Sense.
GOP: We're Stylish. Hip-Hop. Beyond cutting edge. Off the hook.
Little Kid: NEKKID! Yer NEKKID! And fat! And ugly! Fat ugly nekkid guys! Ewwwwwww!
GOP: We're Stylish. Hip-Hop. Beyond ...
America: What's that kid yelling about?
I'd say this was a slam dunk. Oh, wait a minute... ALL NET BAY-BEE!
Just announced
Michael Steele's been replaced
As head of the Republican party

Republicans, as a whole, don't seem to be very deep thinkers or else all deep thinkers are dems. Rather than take a timeout and really give some thought to the country's problems along with solutions, they just whine. Standing in the middle of the room and screaming "No" every five minutes isn't at all helpful.
Each day they wait for their talking point (truthiness has nothing to do with it) and they repeat it over and over and over.
I hope they keep it up--everytime they do it, their numbers go down.
If the Repug's didn't take a hypocritical stance they would be taking no stance at all.
the sad part? There are actual Americans who listen to and believe what these assholes say and will not accept any facts to dispute the claims, and they require no facts to back up the claims by their right wing daddies.
That's so true. But this precisely why Pelosi & Reid & the rest of the Dem. leadership need to stand up to these bastards! Expose them at every turn! Loudly & repeatedly! It's not like they don't have the opportunity--why can't the Dems organize an assault against the hypocrisy & lies the GOP is so blatantly spreading? Why are they holding back?
They have an opportunity to show the country what a bunch of treasonous scumbags the GOP has become--they need to seize that opportunity! I know it won't work on every American, but certainly there are many Americans out there who, when presented with the facts by a united, organized front, will come around...it must be at least tried!
The Monty Python sketch about arguments?
"No, it isn't."
"Yes, it is!"
"No, it isn't!"
"Yes, it is!"
"Wait, an argument is supposed to be an exchange of premises leading to a logical conclusion, not just rote contradiction of anything I say."
"No, it isn't."
"Yes, it is!"

Yeah, they are the base and there is no way to reach them. They are the 25% who thought and still think that Bush did a good job. They are the ones who still think there are WMD in Iraq. They are the same ones who think abstinence is the best birth control. They are the ones who still believe in the tooth fairy.
they are also those that suck hardest at the government teat...while putting in less than they take out...and then scream about how they hate the gubmint.
Wow. I just spent the weekend in SW Washington. It's no wonder it is a republican area. Heavily Christian, meth capitol, only Fox or CNN "news" (Step Dad must just have basic cable?.) Was appalled at what passed for news. These are NOT stupid people, just under-informed. Luckily I read the letters to the editor of local paper and a few people have taken it upon themselves to correct the misinformation spewed on TV.
Saw a bumper sticker outside Safeway that read, "Here come the Democrats. Hold on to your money. Hold on to your guns." I almost turned into a redneck myself at that moment. Blood pressure shot up and I just stood there looking and cussing. Felt like I'd been punched.
In florida daily...I usually tear them off, slap an Obama sticker over it, or if I get the chance, urinate on the door handles.
And if their window is open...oh yeah.
Maybe you oughta consider springing for a premium upgrade on stepdad's cable? You could probably claim it as a deduction.../:-)
I am sure that there are Democrat congressmen who suck as bad as McConnell and Cantor but at least they (the dems) have the decency to stay away from cameras.
Didn't the Republican's parents ever tell them it's a sin to keep telling lies? I suppose to them lies are telling the truth.
If not their parents isn't there something in that bible (that they always thump when they need to explane away their crazy bullshit) isn't there something about...oh, what is it...something about Shalt Not Bare False Witness.
I'm sure some right wing idiot would split hairs with this but isn't False Witness bible talk for Lying?
... in a discussion about Proposition 8 (on another forum), some raving 'Christian' replied to me, "HOW DARE YOU QUOTE SCRIPTURE TO ME!" (I'd quoted the Lord's Prayer, specifically the bit about forgiving one's trespasses, after other insults by this same person.)
So I guess their holiest of holies isn't supposed to be sullied by my grubby liberal fingers. I'm not allowed to look upon its sacred glory or even think the words.

I thought it was thou shalt not bare falsies.
And technically the commandment is against perjury under oath, not lying. It's thematically linked with not using the Lord's Name in vain.
Happy St. Paddy's Day -- after 8 years of being told to GO WITH YOUR GUT, I'm going with it just enough to say Eric Cantor is exactly what he appears to be: a vampire. There, my gut tells it like it is.

Organize their daily talking points just like the GOP does?
We need to take a page out of the GOP playbook--every time a Democrat gets in front of a microphone, be it a lowly freshman congressperson or the Speaker of the House, they need to hammer the same point home again & again & again. That's how the Republicans do it--they aim at those Americans that don't get it unless it's repeated ad nauseum.
Let the President be conciliatory--and let the rest of us be pit bulls!
Obama's been doing that. He's been very effective with the "the Republican party marches on Rush Limbaugh's orders" message.
you have already lost.
I'd rather have a Dem party full of people with ideas and a spine to match. Not a collective of parrots regurgitating talking points in lockstep.

..but spot on. David didn't bother to call Cantor on his hypocrisy or lies. Isn't that what a responsible journalist would do? Oh yeah, David Gregory.
The #2 Republican !!!
In my opinion, he's much closer to Republican #2.
..for pointing out Cantor's lies and hypocrisy. I've been going on about the Vegas-Disneyland train lie since it aired on Sunday; nice to see some support from MSM.
Mr. Cantor, you're a liar! There I've said it.
Do you know what would be fun? Have a Daily Liar! Once someone says something "not true", you know something like, "Pres. Obama is a muslim." or "He's using the Koran to be sworn in." or "They have this train from Vegas to..", well, you get the picture and then have an e-mail link to the liar's office so that people everywhere can call him a LIAR! That would be fun! Liars should be called out for what they are! My regards to Sen. Franken!
...members WATCH Schuster. He's not a raving loon like beck, or a fat drug addict insulting pig like limpbaugh...so while their ratings go through the roof, the truth and hypocrisy go unnoticed by these right wing idiots.
You're right on, Schuster. cantor is a lying flea bag, and mcconnel is an incompetent, powerless blood hound with no value at all. Only problem is, just the liberal/progressive base even hear Schuster and Olberman. They turn to melting turds should they tune in to the more intelligent programs filled with facts. They prefer idiots like vannity, bor, beck, ingraHAM, savage and the like.
This is almost funny. That horse's ass thinks they are now "entertainers"....commedians like John Stewart, Bill Maher, etc. God, they are some ignorant scum.
The Reslugs have to lie or no other Reslug would listen to their drivel.
Shuster asks the questions most reporters are afraid to ask. I like this guy more and more each day, especially when he's not afraid to call out Republicans as hypocrites. I wish there were more reporters like him covering Washington and truly acting like the Fourth Estate that the media is supposed to be.
