David Frum Calls the GOP Brain Dead for Their Theatrics Over the Stimulus Bill
David Frum came on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. with David Shuster and took the GOP to task for their theatrics in opposition to the stimulus bill. Apparently Frum isn't too impressed with the hissy fits he's seen them throwing on the House and Senate floors. But here's the trouble with his argument. What does Frum think are the very serious solutions that the GOP should be offering as their substantive policy solutions to our economic woes? More tax cuts. Um..I think they did offer that up David, and got some of them in the bill and as Ian Welsh over at Firedoglake notes, those tax cuts are not what we need to get us out of this hole we're in.
A Stimulus Bill With 40% Tax Cuts Won't Do the Job
What's brain dead is doing the same thing over and over again and thinking you're going to get a different outcome. It does warm my heart a bit to see these guys eating their own and someone actually calling out the Republicans in the Senate and the House for acting like drama queens.

The banner headline needs to be changed (and made larger if possible) to state flat out that the video was a hoax. Ethical conduct demands this or your credibility is going to go to hell real fast.

In order to be taken seriously in life, you have to act seriously. John Gibson is a joke of a man. He constantly goes on TV and says inflamatory things that would garner scorn and contempt. The best thing you could do is create an entirely new post, apologize for the error and start a discussion about how it happened, why you can't change the original post, who may be responsible for the hoax and why it is unacceptable to defame anyone no matter how much of a jerk he may actually be. In fact i bet someone could come up with even better ideas than mine about how to handle this. These things are done to people we support all the time or conversely Republicans caught in criminal activity are falsely identified as Democrats. It outrages us. your correct. they're showing their true color(s) now regarding the mortgage crisis/rescue. the chant is why should we rescue people who took out mortgages thet can't afford? well that came to mind when they "bailed" out the financial institutions. look at unemployment( ie. auto industry) people can't buy autos so people in the business get laid off......and can't pay their mortgage. or consider people who want to refinance because their ARM loan will reset but they can't refinance because the banks won't offer credit. or how about homes that have lost/devalued 30%( plus) in value these people can't refinance(easily).this problem is systemic and is affecting many people/businesses but NO the (R) are using BANK talking points....all for the "free market".

Frum does a great job with the "well the jury is still out" answer, but its not. The GOP is lying again.
By the way, Frum's idea is attractive, but a lot more expensive than the stimulus bill. I think his end-game might be simply to break the unemployment insurance and medicare programs that are funded through payroll taxes.
By the way, yes, the more tax cuts answer is the only page in the GOP playbook, but payroll taxes are regressive. Their suspension would benefit the lower and middle classes immediately - as long as the programs they support would get funded somehow.

I am all for the school of thought that says "give 'em enough rope to hang themselves." I live in a very red area of a pretty red state (MO) where Rush Limbaugh is pumped through the audio systems of grocery stores. I have had to deal with brain dead GOPers (my family included) telling me how "the Democrat party" is ruining America since about 1994.
It's F'ING HILARIOUS now to see some of those same people losing jobs, filing bankruptcy, not getting the bailouts that their ideological heroes are gobbling up. Some of them (my mom) have seen the light, many (most others I know) have not. My neighbor (who stole a total of 5 Obama/Biden signs from my yard during the night last year) is having financial trouble. I know this because a bank agent came to my house to ask me if he lived there since he wouldn't answer the phone or the door. YET, he works on his car during the day (got laid off last month) and listens to the goddamn EIB network (Rush, Sean, all that shit) at top volume, muttering THEIR talking points under his breath but aimed at our house. I'm pretty sure he's getting govt assistance, but now his favorite phrase to bellow at his leisure is "FUCKING DEADBEATS!" Talk about cognitive dissonance!!!

...That's pretty much how the owner of that store operates. I've heard him proclaim more than once "If you don't like Rush in my store, shop somewhere else." I think more and more of our town is taking his advice. His wife The Queen just started advertising her babysitting services a lot more than she used to...but Rush is still the Word of God Himself according to the majority of the working poor down here!
My glimmer of hope is that their brains are beginning to see problems with the faith in their political dogmas. It'll take time, but as they descend into deeper poverty, the ideology of obstruction will catch up with them.

David Frum is a propagandist and a liar, but I listened anyway to see if there might be a spark of humanity in that AEI husk of a human being. But alas, no. By the time he got to "Obama spending bill" I knew all I needed to know about Frum's contribution. But I don't remember Frum ever calling Bush's fake war in Iraq - the one that enriches war contractors and oil companies - as the Bush Spending Bill, even though it costs us many billions every month and always will, for which we get nothing in return but misery and death.

I do agree that Frum is a Propagandist. He does not believe anything the government does will work.
The problem is he along with other on the right and left miss or do not understand the core problems in the US economy. These People think that consumer spending must increase.
When consumers have a savings rate of zero or negative then what makes you think that this will help the economy? So far this has only hidden a number of weaknesses that are only now coming to the forefront. All of the manufacturing, and service sector jobs that have been lost have only been replaced by jobs related to consumer spending and Walmart does not pay nearly as much. Until the one side acknowledges and does something to stop this I am not sure how things can really improve.
Most Canadians are completely ashamed of this Corporate Zionist scum Frum. He is just a water carrier for the Power Cabal he does not represent true conservative values.
