Well it looks like we've got another Republican who is terribly offended by President Obama's budget speech; former Bush Press Secretary turned Fox shill Dana Perino. Perino accuses President Obama of "saying offensive, crazy things" in his budget speech, but doesn't bother to fill us in on just what those things were, other than to lie and say that President Obama called the Republicans un-American, which he didn't. I'm sure she thinks that expecting anyone to possibly pay more in taxes is just crazy talk as well, but she didn't bring that up here.

Here's a little reminder for Perino of what the President did say:

Now, to their credit, one vision has been presented and championed by Republicans in the House of Representatives and embraced by several of their party’s presidential candidates. It’s a plan that aims to reduce our deficit by $4 trillion over the next 10 years, and one that addresses the challenge of Medicare and Medicaid in the years after that.

These are both worthy goals. They’re worthy goals for us to achieve. But the way this plan achieves those goals would lead to a fundamentally different America than the one we’ve known certainly in my lifetime. In fact, I think it would be fundamentally different than what we’ve known throughout our history.

Full transcript below the fold.

WILLIAMS: -- in terms of this Republican field, right now the big money is standing on the sidelines. Everybody is holding their powder dry because they don't see anything out there that indicates that any of these guys can beat President Obama.

So what do you see going on? You see Donald Trump rise to the top of the polls. Donald Trump, out there yesterday, talking to Tea Party people.

And they're all talking to Tea Party people now. Sarah Palin, talking to Tea Party people. Pawlenty, talking to Tea Party people. Haley Barbour, talking to Tea Party people. And they're saying crazy stuff.

I mean, how is Haley Barbour going to get away with saying, oh, we shouldn't be involved in the war in Afghanistan? Donald Trump saying, you know what? Those Japanese -- after the tsunami and earthquake, those Japanese have been ripping us off for a long time. These are offensive, crazy things, but they just like to stir it up.

WALLACE: OK. All right.

But let's talk, though -- I'm going to take one of your points -- don't look at me like that.

WILLIAMS: Well, I'm surprised.

WALLACE: I'm going to take one of your points, which is the idea that there is -- people are waiting to see who else is going to jump in.

And I want to address that with you, Dana, because given the relative lack of excitement about the current field, some people are suggesting that -- and let's put a couple of candidates on the screen -- that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, or Congressman Paul Ryan could get in the race as late as next fall and still have a chance.

Is that possible?

PERINO: Well, I think anything is possible. And I call that the "maybe someone will emerge caucus," because there is not anyone that has really taken fire.

I want to address one thing on the point, though, which is that there is another person in this presidential race saying offensive, crazy things. And that is President Obama, who called the Republicans un-American this week in a speech in which he invited people.

Now, you can do that if you want to make it a hyper-partisan thing. But the poll you haven't shown yet is that 70 percent of the American people, according to Gallup, think the country is on the wrong track.

So, I think if I were President Obama's political team, I would think, wow, we should have had a better week last week than we did. Rising gas prices will continue to dog them, and maybe somebody will emerge out of this Republican field that will be able to catch people's attention and go the distance.

They praised Joe Wilson for calling him a liar during the SOTU. Michelle Bachman calls him un-American every time she calls him a socialist yet not a sound. Sarah Palin gets applause when she accused him of palling around with terrorist. We're talking about politicians. Now if we talked about the teabaggers I'd need space for a novel.

No one bothers to point out that President Obama NEVER "called the Republicans un-American this week in a speech in which he invited people." Before we set out to defend his rudeness, let's challenge the accusers to prove it actually happened.

TRANSCRIPT: Remarks by the President on Fiscal Policy

Dana Perino, Paul Ryan, and every Republican/Foxtainer around has repeated this LIE, completely unchallenged by the press, of course. Now less than a week later it's already American folklore.

Actually, she's not.
Dana Perino WAS very pretty.
There's something about these conservative women that's just not right. Something about all that anger and bile that stews inside them, and starts to twist their faces into permanent sneers. Even when they smile, they just look mean.
Look at the women of Fox News. Some of them started out 'very pretty', but after a couple of years of constant lying and hating, they all start to look ugly from the inside out.

They complain that Obama is calling them un-American, when he's doing no such thing.
What is the GOP doing? They're:
* running on jobs, jobs, jobs, then they're intentionally trying to crash the economy so they'll win in 2012.
* constantly obstructing any meaningful legislation.
* waging war on the middle class.
* trying to strip Social Security and Medicare.
* representing their corporate masters, and not the flesh and blood people who elected them.
* dumbing down our populace so they can have a cheap source of labor.
* committing election fraud because that's the only way they can stay in power.
* calling the President a Kenyan Socialist Muslim that hates white people.

If I were Obama, I'd be bitch-slapping these fools daily, and REALLY call them out for all the un-American things they do.

I'm convinced people like Perino all drink the idiot kool-aid.

They talk, march and act in lock-step. Even when Obama gives their plan the lightest criticism, they're out there screamin' "He's pickin' on us, Ma". If it was me, I would have looked Ryan square in the eye and said, "This plan sucks. Lotsa luck getting it past my veto" and walked out.

Between Obama's bipartisan courtesy and the Blue Dogs that suck Republican ass and the other Democratic legislators who need to grow a pair, very little is going to be accomplished over the next two years. We are definitely going to be in deep sh*t.

This is my guess as to how a Republican strategy meeting goes-

"Call the president an unAmerican, Islamic Radical Terrorist Sympathizer until it's considered completely normal for our party to do so. When the president says WORD ONE in opposition to us, or presents any regulation, no matter how pathetically weak, pretend it is APOCOLYPTICALLY HARD-HITTING. The media, in the interest of neutrality, will go along with it, and the middle of the two positions will lie between his centrism, and our insanity."

Gotta admit, it's a pretty good strategy.

pissed off patricia's picture

And talk about his "failure to lead" as frequently as possible. You can also say "we need someone who is willing to lead". Just be sure to use the word "leader" in negatives terms always when you speak of the President.

If you have a drinking game and drink every time you hear someone on the right using those phrases, you won't make it through the day.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Paul the Sax Guy's picture

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means"

Remember what the visitors on V called the one at the top? (trying to avoid invoking Godwin this early in the morning)

Authoritarians have a different definition of "leader" than is good for society, and the R's and their (if it's possible to be more insane) lunatic fringe of the Tea Party are nothing if not equal parts trying to find a "Leader" and trying to be sheep for the one they find.

Perino made the admission on the weekend of December 8, 2007, as a guest on NPR's 'Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me'. It wasn't until Perino got home and asked her husband that she learned of the event's significance. According to Perino, she asked her husband "wasn't that like the Bay of Pigs thing?" and he responded, "Oh Dana."

Now, in the big picture it is not that big of a deal but for the spokesperson for the President of the United States of America not to know what the Cuban Missile Crisis was, that is incredible. Crazy. Now tell me why anybody should listen to her of ask her what her opinion is.

Paying down and off the DEBT and DEFICIT and the GOP, RNC, Republicans, T Publicans, refuse to pay the debt and deficit off. None of their announced PLAN (s) focuses spending cuts (Their favorite, tool for resting old south States Rights, away from the Federal Government and weakening Democrats strengths).

Revenue; TAX ENTITLEMENTS, have to be changed and raised to coincide with Spending Cuts. We must raise revenue and invest in our future, this cannot be a stagnant vision and way forward and up, we must raise our future, not cut it back and use a Republicans, Conservative Old South (still fighting the Civil War) excuse, to fundamentally change America.

First: Obama never said anything about Republicans being Un-American, he said and I quote:

"fundamentally different America than the one we’ve known certainly in my lifetime. In fact, I think it would be fundamentally different than what we’ve known throughout our history."
