The Daily Show: 'The Vagina Ideologues'
After being away last week, Jon Stewart got a chance to go after these hypocritical Catholic bishops for their opposition to the new health care mandate to cover contraception as only he can:
STEWART: Yes! We are men of god! That money must not be used for contraception! That money has been set aside for out of court alter boy settlements and of course, some priest relocation. Respect our authority! Seriously? A firestorm among "many Catholics" or the old dudes who run it? [...]
Old dudes who run it. Check.
Stewart got some good knocks in on Santorum, Gingrich and now the GOP for going off the cliff with their proposition for any employer to be able to deny health care coverage for "moral" reasons as well. Once again here, we've got the comedian pointing out how far off the Republicans have gone off the rails, while the media fails to do their job.
And speaking of media failures, more with Stewart nailing Hannity for his panel full of more crusty old white dudes as supposed "experts" on women's reproductive rights and the wingnuts out there pulling the Hitler card when claiming to be persecuted over this matter below the fold.

Wow, the wingnuts on the right continue to lose their minds. The only saving grace is that through the freedom of speech, also enshrined in the first ammendment, we get to hear just how wacked out their thinking has become.
Jon is right, they have confused persecution with not getting everything they want.
By that same logic, the press can claim persecution for being taxed (also a first ammendment right). The OWS crowd can claim persecution for not being allowed to camp wherever they want in protest (another first ammendment right).
Beware of anyone promising a future full of yesterdays.
Need to understand that from their mindset, anything that threatens their brand of Christianity's position as top and only spot on the list of ideas is, by definition, persecution.
Of course, that also comes from the quarters that think because reality doesn't match their fantasy, it's reality that's wrong... "Alright, maybe it isn't all that way... but it should be and shoulda been."

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

Jon put it better and said it better than anyone else has or could.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Really discouraging that it takes a self-described comedy show to point out the moral bankruptcy of their mindsets... Edward R. Murrow weeps.

or we'd NEVER get any real news!
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
on Faux Noise would fit that category--the brain dead & sold out ones, of course!
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
sums it up nicely, Mr Stewart. That's exactly what they're saying.
me-oww!
Chris Matthews has EJ Dionne and ANDREW SULLIVAN (yeah) on this evening to talk the Birth Control issue, as if only former choirboys can fully understand the issues of Church. It's not as though Chris doesn't have Joan Walsh (a Catholic who has written on this issue very well for Salon) on his rolodex.
It's old boy church network circling the guilt wagon. There should be a huge blowback against them from women everywhere, even if they're right on the issue of the church, they have NO right to keep women journos out of the conversation -- as uncomfortable as talking about lady parts must be for them.
Probably because they think women can't be trusted to trot out their party line consistently and without fail... I'm obviously not a woman, but I would guess that all but the completely braindead or sold out would at some point hava a "wait just a goddam minute" moment.

I am sick of the Catholic church and I'm equally sick of the sanctimonious A$$holes in Congress who are all glomming on to this bull$hit.
on election day: do what you can to keep the country from circling the drain, and vote for obama. or, make your job a heck of a lot easier for four years, by voting for (insert name of republican candidate here).

The next thing they will try to control is what sexual position is the only position sanctioned by the Right. "Missionary Position" It will be a sin for women to be on top.
I heard someone describe Congress as a bunch of prostitutes. That statement is slanderous to all prostitutes and should be stricken from the record.

The fact that someone quotes Martin Niemöller on how they first came for the communists, then the trade unionists on FOX "News" and no one sees the irony is the epitome of self-unawareness...

...it's like, are you listening to yourself? Do you hear the implications of what your are saying right now? The words coming out of your own lips?
Why did they come for the socialists and trade unionists? Because fascism is a product of the political RIGHT, and socialistic causes are the ideological polar opposite. Notice that Niemoller didn't say "They came for the CEOs." Or "They came for the wealthy." Or "They came for the venture capitalists." Or "They came for the corporations." (In truth, the communists did these things in Russia during their communist revolution.)
Don't let Glenn Beck fool you, your friends, or your family members. Point to the Martin Niemoller quote and ask everyone who wants to compare Progressives to fascists why CEOs/the wealthy/venture capitalists/corporations aren't on Niemoller's list. Hmmm...
(Multiple versions of Niemoller's quote exist, but it doesn't matter -- this point is consistent)

going to do to the increasing cost of federal and state funded and insurance funded health care?
If a pregnant women can't pay the extra cost of the state mandated, medically unnecessary test does she go to debtor's prison?
What does the physician or technician do if the woman refuses the test?
Even when faced with a physician's order to draw blood from a drunk or dope head, in hand cuffs and under guard by a cop, I, as a lab tech who is qualified as a phlebotomist, cannot collect a specimen without that person's consent. It would be considered a criminal act of battery. If the patient refuses, that's it, cop on guard or not.
So if a woman refuses, then what? If the woman won't spread her legs then what? And how does this not become legalized rape?
