Daily Show: Stewart Rips Up the CPAC Crazies
From The Daily Show March 2, 2009. Jon Stewart rips up the crazies at CPAC as only he can. Stewart thinks the crowd at CPAC juuust maybe doesn't like him so much for being part of that evil biased press that doesn't want to give them any fair coverage. Sadly with the state of our media these days and what passes for "news", I'd say he's laying fair claim to being considered part of that group. Especially considering that Daily Show viewers are actually more informed than those that watch Fox. As he demonstrates in this segment, the most "fair" coverage anyone can give to them is to just expose the public to their actual words.
I think the more exposure we give to CPAC and the right wing extremism they cheer there, which is completely out of touch with the rest of the country the better and thank you so much Rush Limbaugh for helping to make that happen. Knowing my horror watching you speak was being shared by millions of other viewers just made my day last weekend. In the past it was just a few dorks like myself that actually subjected themselves to this convention and tried to share the crazier moments with some of the public.
Now that the GOP's new de facto leader Rush Limbaugh has decided to bring the limelight onto this conference, everyone can get a full dose of the crazy which is normally reserved for those of us that watch C-SPAN. Isn't that special?
Stewart does a great job of highlighting some of CPAC's "finer" moments. They're the gift that keeps on giving.
tunnel is not that comedy news is a valuable national institution for that is clearly not the case. Still, given the dumbing down of network and local newscasts and the smarting-up of the television comedians, there something akin to light is clearly visible at the end of the tunnel. Whether it is the light of day, or simply the headlight of an oncoming train is yet to be determined.

You have to either stream it, or find a suitable radio station.
Liberals pretty much are constrained to radio, Airamerica and Pacifica. That is basically it... and those are only present in a few select markets

I love WHYY (and miss it since i wont be able to watch it until it goes digital). Im also a smart guy...but I know pretentious crap when i see it...and 99% of WYBE is pretentious 'Im smarter than you' crap. well...90% because they do show a lot of news from BBC and KBS.

He totally relishes his position as leader of the Repubs. He really believes he knows what the hell he's talking about. Not! What an ass. I kept thinking of his being a college dropout.
He managed to crack a couple of real smiles amongst his frothings at the mouth. The crowd's laughter was mean and hateful, and too quick in coming, like the people weren't very smart or something. Ann Coltish would've fit in wonderfully there.

and, holy jackals (sorry jackals), you are right, that crowd was rabid. the level of ahistoric commentary, disinformation, group non-think, and pure fear were palpable.

...on some drug. Rush actually thought that he was looking cool...kind of like when David Gregory danced with Rove. Limbaugh's ascend to the top of the GOP is Christmas everyday for Democrats. I'd ask any Republican leader endlessly "do you agree with Rush?"
There are about 30% of the people in the U.S. who will always vote for Republican, no matter what. The diehard base. Most of these are Christian evangelicals. Listening to these nuts at CPAC, it amazes me that the number is not closer to 10%.
There are, however, plenty of assholes in this country. Which make up most of the base of the GOP voting block.
Besides, approval ratings really do not tell the whole story.
Remember that in the past election, the GOP got over 46% of the vote. And that was after basically the worst presidency in the last 100 years or so.
We need to come to terms that there are 2 Americas: one made up of selfish assholes who would rather vote against their own interest (and maybe even have a white-hot steel rod inserted up their rectums) than even contemplating the possibility of having the government use any of their precious tax dollars in helping their fellow citizen, and a second America made of relatively normal and decent people.
Let's not delude ourselves.
Also, trying to follow the lead of the concern trolls in the liberal ranks will only lead to further enabling the asshole half. IMHO.
I agree with you, but also, let's not forget that the politics of fear and resentment hit a high water mark around 2002-2006, and passed a tipping point with the election of Obama. Tipping points are important.
The Republicans had invested their whole portfolio of political capital into fear of electing liberals, and then painting Obama, repeatedly, as the 'most liberal senator.' Fear is a much stronger motivator of political action than anything constructive, and about half the people that voted Republican in 2008 (and 2004, for that matter) were doing so because of the Republicans' ginned-up fear of liberals, people who are different, terrorism (Obama apparently being a closet muslim and secret terrorist) etc.
Now that 'the most liberal senator' has actually been elected, and the world hasn't ended, the U.S. hasn't been attacked, Obama hasn't moved to get retribution for slavery, or tried to disband the Army etc. etc. etc. that old Republican dog won't hunt anymore. They'll have to come up with some new tricks, which I'm sure they will in the near future, but had it not been for the fear and xenophobia cards being played in the last few elections I'm sure the 2008 vote wouldn't have been so close. SOLID Republican support has been erroding for the last few years, but, like a bad stock before the bubble bursts, the errosion wasn't visible as long as it was being supplemented by some unstable factors. Just my opinion.
Yes, I too believe it is an ideology and philosophy of dinoasaurs. More like cave men. And a lot of them are dying off, THANK THE FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER. And I think at least some of their offspring will evolve, modernize and become somewhat "intellectual" as time goes on now.

I'm jus saying they can, not that they will. I think that is why the newspapers are going under. They don't report the news. That should be a warning for the rest of the right wing media.
You have to take time and read a newspaper.
to come in paperback or hardback. Books are a far friendlier form factor for this avid reader. Newspaper are too messy.
I also tend to enjoy reading my editorials in the form of blogs, esp. if they allow comments. Much better than having your letters to the editor censored or ignored.
I would feel bad if most Newspapers in this nation were actually carrying "news" right now the only thing they are true to in their name, is the "paper" part. And that is just a terrible waste of trees IMHO.
At this point, most papers dissapearing would only provide positive outcomes: lowered waste of natural resources.
You need a large table to spread a newspaper out on. With so many homes lost, those motel room tables just don't cut it.

Several retries and I finally got it to start download, play would not work. I tried earlier this morning and thought maybe too many people were loading... it's still loading sssslllllooooowwwww as hell. Seems about 1 out of roughly 50 videos here do this, are you guys sure of the upload or compression settings?
I really wanted to see this one, my download box has gone from 560KB/13.5MB to a whopping 753KB/13.5MB in the past 8 minutes.
Windows media isn't loading here, either. I'll have to see if the Quicktime works.
Whatever he's on or not on - whatever his personal illegal indulgences might be - one thing is clear. This man is a heart attack waiting to happen. And when it happens - I think it'll be massive - there'll be no second chances. Just a hunch.

Yeah, me too. I checked the properties of the Stewart video and the one above it and they indicated there was no content behind the videos. They just time-out and show nothing because there is nothing to show.

It took about 15 tries to get it to start a download box and when I got to 1.1MB/13.5MB after a half hour I shut it down. I've watched about 15 other videos today without a hitch but still want to see this one.
That mini conservative kid was really creepy...
I had the same trouble that most others are reporting all day -- left-clicking Download resulted in a time out. But about 10 minutes ago (it's 6:25 CT as I write this), I right-clicked and did "Save As" and the clip downloaded fine in WMV. Worked the same for Quicktime, too. Right-click Download and choose "Save As."
