I apologize ahead of time for the man jokes told about Ann Coulter in this bit by The Daily Show. Not that I am concerned about any insults to Coulter, since she pretty well deserves every bit of scorn she's brought upon herself. Instead my concern is to the trans-gendered community, which doesn't deserve to be associated with her or used as a way to insult her. I know most trans-gendered people in this country are good and decent people and not hate-spewing attention whores like Coulter, and I hate to see her give anyone a bad name unfairly. Apparently The Daily Show didn't mind going there.

That said, the mere fact that they managed to again make Kevin James look like the complete ass that he is and that my You Tube video of James actually made its way onto The Daily Show, I just couldn't help myself with wanting to post this anyway. Jason Jones takes a shot at the pundit class and just how little is required to be a talking head on the television these days, and sadly this parody is way too close to the truth.

I just want to know when they're going to quit giving Pat Buchanan five hours a day of air time on MSNBC and maybe make a few minutes for our own John Amato instead. Pat needs to take that cot up and give someone else some room.

Much as I congratulate you for having your youtube copy make it to a daily show sketch, I don't think you have bragging rights. All you did was put a clip created by someone else online. I think the credit should go to the actual people that gave this gift to us The original is here.

Had it been some incredible "gotcha" find that you had researched I would be more inclined to give you kudos.

Please don't think this is criticism against posting such videos. It's purely about giving credit where it's due

onceler's picture

out whether they edited the video themselves first? when they say "my youtube video" it usually means they took someone else's footage and then edited it, making the person who did the editing the new author of the piece.

Nel's picture

If you look at them both for yourself, there is a 1 second difference and that's only because of the way youtube fades out at the end.

Look I'm not complaining about posted videos or even suggesting copyright, it was posted for discussion and comes under fair use IMO. I'm grateful sites like this do it as it shows me things I would otherwise miss.

This site has always been great at giving hat tips acknowledging others, In this case I'm sorry but the credit should go to Mathews.

I never saw such compassion when Bush was compared to a chimp. What did our simian friends do to deserve such liberal insensitivity?

I detest Coulter, I think she's wrong wrong WRONG about every thing. But, when folks say Coulter is a man, it's just the same criticism women always get when someone dislikes or disagrees with them--call her sexuality or gender into question as a way to "punish" her. Or, call her ugly, etc. It's like her calling Edwards gay--she doesn't like his political views so she'll attack his sexuality (on the assumption that there is something wrong with being gay) and masculinity. It's not a shock when the right seeks to punish people by questioning their sexuality or sex--the right loves everyone staying "in their place." But when the left does it, it's more than a little disappointing because we're the ones who supposedly rejected all that BS. It's a lame tactic mired in rigid gender stereotypes that we should have outgrown by now. And, most annoying, it ends up with me having to sound like I'm defending someone like Coulter, who I despise.

ricky's picture

"most annoying, it ends up with me having to sound like I'm defending someone like Coulter, who I despise."

Actually, it probably means you miss the point, which is to use a common tactic of Coulter in reverse. That usage can be questioned on the very grounds you raise, particularly because it is executed in a way that smart people like you misinterpret the intent. Nonetheless I don't think they were poking fun at her sexuality, but suggesting one who pokes fun at others can also have her own questioned. I could be wrong.

Yes, you could be wrong. Using her tactics against her cheapens your own criticism of her by buying into her framing and assumptions of gender, sex, and sexuality. Second, it's something done to women all the time, not just Coulter. Janet Reno, Hilary Clinton, . . . you get the idea. To the extent we mimic those tactics, we are relying on the same stereotypes she is and endorsing them. If you want to criticize Coulter, she provides ample ammunition just by being wrong every time she opens her mouth. Criticize her ideas and opinions and leave her "tactics" for her to use.

Simply calling her a dude isn't cogent analysis or deft criticism. It's second grade name calling based on theories of conformity and cooties.

ricky's picture

Is hardly what one expects when tuning into the Daily Show.
If it were a comment on Olbermann your point would be more on the money.

Chamberlain represented the view of the British Parliament and the King of England not himself; although he clearly agreed with the view since at the time England had no major vested interest in the League of Nations creation Czechoslovakia. Also, the appeasement idea came more from American interventionist after the fact then it did the British people, because until the true start of the war between Germany and England, Chamberlain was viewed as a great statesman by the majority his people. Although he ended up taking a disproportionate amount of blame once the war started.

Also check out Operation Mockingbird if anyone is curious.

"Operation Mockingbird was a secret Central Intelligence Agency campaign to influence domestic and foreign media beginning in the 1950s. The existence of this operation was made public during the Church Committee investigation in 1975 (published 1976).

The activities, extent and even the name of the CIA project remain in dispute: the operation was first identified as Mockingbird in Deborah Davis' 1979 expose, Katharine the Great: Katharine Graham and her Washington Post Empire. But Davis' book, alleging that the media had been recruited (and infiltrated) by the CIA for propaganda purposes, was itself controversial and has since been shown to have had a number of erroneous assertions.[1] More evidence of Mockingbird's existence emerged in the 2007 memoir American Spy: My Secret History in the CIA, Watergate and Beyond, by convicted Watergate "plumber" E. Howard Hunt."

also, it is fascinating (see, chilling) to see other instances where the govt used disinfo in domestic news outlets. for instance operation TPAJAX (overthrow of mossadeq in iran). now that the official secret documents have been released it is exposes just how often, from president eisenhower on down, officials made statements knowing full well that they were misleading at best, out and out lies at worst.

Aren't they supposed to throw puns around? Is that Rick James? Oh no, wrong guy, sorry. Superfreak, superfreaking out!

onceler's picture

that never occurred here! yes, they do call Coulter "this guy" a few times, but never do they call her 'transgender', or imply anything about it. its just a crude, school-boy mentality type of joke. I've seen people make specific jokes about her in relation to trannies which were hurtful and wrong, but this wasn't an instance of that.

Neither The Daily Show or Comedy Central are apologizing for their humor,... why do you bend over backwards to do so every time you talk about Coulter? It's a joke, & a poignant joke, because we are comparing Coulter to something she hates, namely anyone who isn't a right wing Christian,... what better way than to show her how close she is to all the things she fears, detests, & attacks?

I'm sick to death of this "pc" bugaboo.
PC doesn't always have to be a bad thing, and certainly not just liberals insist on it's usage. It really boils down to control of the language, which equates to control of the issues.
Of course political correctness taken to the nth degree is absurd, but it can also empower certain disaffected individuals who have no one to stand up for them. This knee jerk disdain for all that is PC can be counter productive and may be used to ridicule other wise good liberal policy.

Ann Coultergeist? Naw, just what happens when your parents do heavy drugs while pregnant.

Ann was not being accused of being transgenedered but transexual, like Rudy G. She is in costume, not in possession of altered genitalia. I think. Some find her attractive. Some found Lenny Bruce's "Carnal Knowledge of a Fowl" joke hit to close to home as well.

This whole incident is indictive of the psuedo-intellectual garbage that has permeated our media over the last 20 years or so. All you have to do is say "Chamberlain, Churchill, Sartre, Nietzsche" without ever backing any of it up, and bang, you're considered credible and smart.

When Tweety interviewed Bush in the White House early in his first term Tweety asked him "who is your favorite politician?". Bush said "Winston Churchill", and Tweety gave him this look "wow, you're so smart!". So simply saying "Churchill" gets you cred in the MSM, which isn't hard to do. Not defending James in any way, but he was just playing the game by saying "Chamberlain" without actually knowing what the controversy was, but for some reason, Matthews was pissed off that day, and Tweety called him on it.

But using the word "whore" to describe her?
Sorry.
When is the last time you used that word to describe a man?
I've seen a lot of contemptuous labels dropped on Joe the Plumber, but attention "whore" has not been one of them.

The last time I saw "whore" used with such abandon on blogs such as this one was when Hillary Clinton was running for President.

We've come absolutely nowhere, baby.

and a whore. We should eschew language if it has any negative gender connotations, but I am afraid our descriptive efforts might be too restricted. You know what they say, "life's a butch."

...that's why I made it a point to never make tranny jokes about Coulter because it would paint transgendered people in a negative way. There's nothing wrong with being transgendered, of course, and such people are deserving of love, understanding and support, not to be used as an opportunity to smear a right wing gas bag.

That's why I just call Coulter a ****.

jon stewart, if there really is justice you will be somehow a part of the Bush legacy library center.

i hope we can laugh and learn from these times we live in...ignoring guys like coulter or o'reilly only lets their intent work its dark little secret magic on the body politic. they are loaded with disinformation and arguably psychpathologically tainted ideology. they slip it in as entertainment that irritates and makes target audiences either turn away in disgust or keep watching in an induced state. but we must dissect them carefully and refute their lies or we will repeat this past 8 years. only next time their twisted roots will be in our collective stream providing a base for the next occupation. like with a disease or infection healing requires extraction.
