Countdown: WTF!! Texas Still Wants to Leave the Union
By Heather Saturday May 16, 2009 4:45amYou can view this video right here by getting the latest version of Flash Player!
From Countdown's WTF!! segment. Keith considers what would happen to Texas if their wingnut Governor got his wish it did secede from the United States. You'd better be careful what you wish for Governor Perry since leaving, as Keith notes, would be pretty expensive for Texas.

I live in Austin and thought that was hilarious! Nicely done Mr. Olbermann, but please, make Austin like west Berlin during the Cold War so we can continue to be a thorn in the side of the right here.
Excellent point, sciguy!
Austin is indeed worth keeping. I look forward to the Austin Air Lift certain to follow the secession of Texas, and the eventual Austin Wall where some future U.S. President will challenge the leader of Texas (or the President of Mexico) to, "Tear down this wall, Mr. Chairman!"
of Mexican Americans to be as offensive as they are when made by M. Malkin
Don't make me laugh. First let us get some facts straight. Texas can sustain themselves. Texas still leads all other states in oil and natural gas production and in petroleum-refining capacity, its manufacture of electronics, aerospace components, and other high-technology items is increasingly important. It is also the leading cotton, cattle, and sheep producer in the U.S.
So I am sure, as the gas prices would undoubtedly go up, I am sure Texas could benefit from the sale of petroleum and natural gas. Cotton shortage, meat shortage? many things come out of Texas which the US would be forced into making contracts for goods and services. They can indeed sustain themselves. Furthermore, what makes people think that they would go alone? As Texas goes, I am sure most of the south would too.
Maybe that would be a good thing. You can have a country full of the left and one full of the right. It may actually work better if you think about it.
like in TexaASS would self-destruct, as well it should. ( But agreed Austin is the Exception!)
and Willy and Waylon!
.
Perry is the worst thing to happen to Texas since Bush, which is not surprising given that he was hand-picked by Bush to take over when Bush ran for Prez.
Perry is a snake in the grass politician. He's been trying to sell Texas's highways to private companies (some foreign) so that they can turn our state's highway system into a giant network of for profit toll roads. He's in the pocket of just about every lobbyist with a checkbook.
If Perry wants to secede, then he should do it personally --- pack up his bags and leave the state. Good riddance.
Let's watch out for Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too. She's the one who always responds to our letters with a patronizing pat on the head and she's going to do what she wants to anyway.
.....If Perry wants to secede, then he should do it personally --- pack up his bags and leave the state. Good riddance.....
Unlike Nancy Pelosi and myself, he's not entitled to an Italian passport or any other EU passport. And I just can't see a Texas racist like Perry living in Africa or Asia. For sure, he wouldn't be welcome in the Middle East. So that leaves Australia, I guess, but Australia would take in a citizen of a Crown country before it took in a Texan. Too bad, Governor. It might be a good idea for you to learn how to "go along to get along".
Same could be said to the anti socialist asshats as well.
questioning the loyalty of Mexican Americans.
That would be a great thing for the rest of America!
We would not have to send money to these idiots!
We could build a wall around the state and keep those idiots in their what ever you would call whats left of their state.
republicanism is a mental illness.
republican = insanity!
There ain't a damn thing in Texas I want or need. Nothing good ever came out of Texas. Let the fuckers secede. Bunch of red state wingnuts. Let Mexico take it back. No one cares.
Perry is a mental midget, a perfect example of the radicalism that is destroying the reichwing.
Would he agree to cleve TexAs off into its own country?
This was great. I too live in Texas and believe me there are certainly way too many nutjobs. That said, there are also some loyal lefties. We just keep plugging away and eventually this state will turn around.
We will push the truth while we breathe.
Rick Perry can take his little red pickup and leave Texas because he still has not learned how to play with others
until Govenor Perry needs stem-cell research to save his life. We'll see how liberally enlightened he gets.
Perry wants to get all high tech but doesn't want to take Stimulus money to help with the unemployment situation here. Also, Dewhurst didn't catch on to the fact that we, as a country and including Texas are going through a near depression. As a result they balanced their budget with last years numbers and the budget is a do-over. If ignorance was a commodity Texas would be a very wealthy state, indeed.
Perry doesn't want to interupt it.To find out how it works (psycho analysis) of it start here.

They (elites)work like Aztec's with blood sacrafices and the media helps them.Look for signs of the coming sacrafices
As WW1 and WW2 were great sacraficies So was the American civil war one of the biggest blood sacrafices
Although I don't think the secession talk is a good idea, the size, influence and corruption of the federal government has become overwhelming and unsustainable.
Many states have seen the govt encroach on their sovereignty and their voter's will. The drinking age, the speed limit laws were both forced on states through coercion and intimidation from the feds. The VOTERS in California voted in medical marijuana and the feds said we don't know what we're doing.
There is an argument to be made for less federal government. If you think they are providing adequate services right now, will it hold up under the looting and corruption that is taking place in our government now (ie financial bailouts)
the size, influence and corruption of the GOP federal administrations I'd say you're correct. Certainly the Dems have their idiots too but they havn't tapped our phones or proposed a national law defining marraige. And hey, I'm really sorry your constitutional rights to drive 110 and kill a family of four has been 'encrouched' but once you live in the Republic of Texas you can speed and shoot guns at the same time.
I was thinking 65 is better than 55. I'm anxious to see you crawl across the state of Montana at a speed that can hurt no one.
The Dems did approve of the tapping of our phones and helped to create immunity for the companies that do it. You are wrong there.
So, you are happy with Obama's continued bail out of the banks and lack of interest in investigating possible criminal activity that may have lead to the financial crisis (he told the Europeans he didn't want to know who caused the financial crisis, just to look forward.)
Corporatism only works when both sides have been bought.
What are you talking about the speed limit on Interstate 10 is 80mph.
For a long time the national speed limit was 55. It was raised, nationally, around 15 years ago. The 55 limit was mandated by the federal government. if the states did not cooperate, they would lose their matching highway funds.
" if the states did not cooperate, they would lose their matching highway funds."
---and? they're free to do it on their own if they don't want to comply? how is this different than doing a contract when you're a lesser power? negotiate and get your best deal; aggregate whatever resources with like minded parties and deal or take your marbles and go home because nothing is better than something, sometimes? always ??
With Delay, Bush, Cornyn, Gramm and Sessions on your team, I would be more worried about being kicked out of the US; because the rest of us are all for it.
Ivins and Richards mopped the floor with Gov. Good Hair
I was going to say I miss Ann Richards. I never got to know Molly Ivans but my mom told me good things about her.
I believe she was even the one who started calling GWB "shrub".
Here are some of her quotes:
"In Texas, we do not hold high expectations for the [governor's] office; it's mostly been occupied by crooks, dorks and the comatose."
"Good thing we've still got politics in Texas -- finest form of free entertainment ever invented."
"I am not anti-gun. I'm pro-knife. Consider the merits of the knife. In the first place, you have to catch up with someone in order to stab him. A general substitution of knives for guns would promote physical fitness. We'd turn into a whole nation of great runners. Plus, knives don't ricochet. And people are seldom killed while cleaning their knives."
Molly Ivans left us too soon.
I still miss Molly's searing editorials. She was one of a kind. A true gem in every aspect of the word. Why do the good die young? Her books are one of the main reasons I became a flaming liberal!
That's why all the Bushies live to be 100, I guess.
and the daughter of a rich oil executive?
Secession, my ass! Just kick them out of the Union. Hmm...the flag would have more consistency, 7 by 7 stars. But it's great that Mr. Olbermann tells those cowboy crybabies the impact of secession. Texas, Texass!!
Yes! Please let the wingnut bigots go, and take all of their republican trash with them.
This would be the quickest way to end conservatism once and for all. Without the asshole republicans in the senate holding up the will of the people, we could soon have a progressive nation and be as happy as the Danes!
Meanwhile, in five years, even the dumbest of the redneck bigots would look back at the Bush/Cheney regime as the "good-ole-days," when people were not starving in the streets so trillionaires wouldn't have to pay taxes.
So-long Tex-ass! Smell ya' later. And don't come knockin' in five years when you realize how fucked-up your republican party really is.
If we made the secession retroactive can we claim that GWB and Cheney weren't resident's of the US when they ran for office, and get the courts to legally undo EVERYTHING they did to the country?
...with these Right-wing idiots.
Not every Texas is a brain-dead Conservative (I like to remind people Perry won re-election with only 39% of the vote, as the RNC funded two "third-Party" candidates to water down the anti-Perry vote.)
Thanks for that info. Essentially cheating which is Texan for winning.
ROFLMAO! That's funny.
Texas has no plan of ever seceding. But, if they can convince the rest of you they want to, they might be able to get the federal government to put their needs first every time, and maintain a stranglehold on your country's politics.
It's worked in Canada for the last forty years... and y'all seem to be arguing that Texas is a "distinct society", n'est-ce pas?
Thanks for the perspective kephas. That was good.
I never thought about comparing Texas and Quebec. Perfect match. I'm going to mention that to my BQ, PQ,and QQ friends and watch them squirm..... and then explode!
Can't wait.
Separation isn't the only similarity between Quebec and Texas.
Quebec is a debtor province in Canada - they take more money out of the Canadian government than they put in. Texas is exactly the same, getting more than it gives.
When Quebec threatened to leave, what it said it wanted was called "sovereignty association" - they wanted political separation from Canada (don't pay taxes, Ottowa doesn't control them) but they still get the federal money without contributing.
Texas no doubt wants the same thing: sponsorship without responsibility.
Anyone else get a little chuckle from the thought of going to war with Texas for their oil?
Would letting Texas secede help the US economy? Obviously wouldn't hurt.
perhaps it may be the only way texas will survive after the obama corporate owned stooges sell out the rest of the states to china and india,
I am rather disappointed in Mr. Olbermann for leaving out the fact that Texas would be required to assume a portion of the national debt. So, not only would Texas no longer have the "full faith and credit" of the U.S. to back it up, it would be saddled with a debt of around $500 billion right off the bat. I am sure that the 24,326,974 "citizens" of Texas would enjoy trying to pay off that.
Assuming part of the national debt is one reason Quebec has never succeeded.
That's probably the exact same amount of money by which W. and Cheney's personal wealth increased since 2000.
good luck collecting it!
Texas...Our own little Quebec.
...it's not just Texas. Every damn backward state across the South is ruled by right-wing fools that will do and say anything rather than admit that they have been wrong all along. Of course being from Georgia and having more friends and relatives that vote Republican, than not, (at least my grown kids seem to think like I do, of course they may be lying to make sure they stay in the will.)...it's obvious that the region is, for all practical purposes, a lost cause - seems to me the South had one of those once and look what it got us.
Why are those folks so damn ignorant down there? They have been just as fucked over as everybody else during the Bush junta.
or the majority of knuckle draggers will start doing cruel and unusual things to minorities and others.
Texas used to be so Democratic and now all the bat crazy, prejudiced, hate-filled Reslugs moved there.
They are a back-asswards state anyway. CNN did a story last week about this little town in Texas, what was charging black and mixed couples, thousands of dollars for traffic fines. People would come to the town to buy cars, and they would have thousands of dollars in their possesion.
The sheriff would take them to the judge, and if they had kids, she would threatned to hand their kids over to social services if they didn't comply. The kids heard the threat. Someone had the backbone to report these clowns and they were busted.
Then there's the case of the D.A. who sent 25% of the towns black population to prison, on trumped-up crack cocaine charges. He was finally busted.
Give Texas back to Mexico, where it rightfully belonged, before it was stolen from them.
Can you spare a million?
LOL
I hope, at least, if Texas does secede from the union I have only one request as a Californian...Can you please take gov Schwarzenegger with you?
This guy is so pig ignorant he will fit in perfectly with this dipshits in Texas! And he really isn't any good for California (or America for that matter) - Please take him before his dumb ass sells off all our assets here in CA!
Considering Schwarzenegger was essentially set-up to take office after the Enron Guys helped stage the energy crisis with CA thus bringing down Grey Davis.
and neatly pressed cowboy shirts should go get a job with the Donald running fake beauty pageants, and leave the governing to the grown-ups >>>> if there are any in Texas!!
If Texas succeeds than we slide Puerto Rico right in as the 50th state. Then we don't have to change any flags.
I wish you jackasses would get it straight. Texas DOES NOT want to leave the union. We just have a governor that is a bigger jackass that a lot of you posters.
is required. We as citizens of Texas have to be vigilant. Yep, we're going to all have to work on the next Governorship.
But WE want you to leave! Please, take your state which gave us the likes of all the reich wing neofascist goons from Bush, Cheney, to Tom Delay and Dick Armey, and leave us in peace.
Maybe the non-crazies can seceede from Texas and split it up, in which case we would be more than happy to let them stay.
Nothing personal mind you, for I would like to see ALL of the southern red states do the same thing. Let those rednecks who hate libruls' and socialists so much see what life under unfetterred republican corporate fascism is really like.
When they have to go to monopolistic corporations for everything, $1 to take a dump to some privatized republican toilet corporation, methinks they will soon be singing a different tune.
If it is true that Texas has the right to leave the Union, and then to immediately divide into 5 separate states, some of what Olberman said would simply not be true. That Democratic majority in the Senate would likely be destroyed, not re-enforced, as he implied.
Have the right to secede. One of the questions settled by the Civil War was the legality of secession, on in this case, that lack of legality. The Union would roll right in, if they decide to leave.
It is really funny when somebody like Olbermann (and his research crew) who has the intelligence to spell these things out to these asshats. Of course the Texas Governor is one of the easy targets. I would love it if they seceded and all the other unhappy tea baggers moved there with their Tom Delays and Roves and Bushes and Perrys. To bad we won't be luck enough for that to happen. We will just have to keep pointing out how stupid they are. Let's get Rove and Delay to get behind the Perry freak at least. I think that Delay already tried to come down on the side of Perry and maybe C+L can find the tape of that. It was back when Perry first opened his pie hole to let the world see the flies buzzing around in his brain.
The longest year of my life was the 6 months I lived in Texas. What a dusty, hot shit hole of a place full of ignorant conservative backwaters with big egos and no reason to have them whose gifts to the nation were GWB, LBJ and Tom Delay.
Push that shit over to Mexico with our sincere apologies to the Mexican government. Afterwards we can invade on false pretenses and steal their oil.
Here is the Tom DeLay defending Rick Perry's secession rhetoric. The best part about being in the middle of Texas is that you don't have to go more than halfway to get out.
Seriously, Olbermann needs to be careful when he runs segments like this, as I was finding myself sold on the idea of Texas seceding from our country. He made it sound really appealing. I pity my friends in Texas, who have to deal regularly with asshats like Perry and his disgusting ilk. WTF indeed!
The Duke would say their isn't any hyphen in American, asshat either. Perry is the next Tom Haggard.
Given the Mexican population inside Tejas, it would only take 2,000 days before Texas became Tejas. Most Texans can't read or write english, much less do the same with spanish. If the Texan is that stupid, then "forget the Alamo". Besides Tex-Mex food is really Mexican. Texican beer isn't really that good...too filled with pompas crap. Aside from that what has Texas offered America besides the secessionist threat...? All the time....
Chong Wang
My you paint with a broad brush. Hope you feel better about yourself.
Stevie Ray Vaughn, his brother Jimmie, lots of music stuff, Western Swing, Blues and so forth. It is also and including Austin anglo-centric and socially paralyzed conservative. Texas actually makes one wait 6 weeks for Medicaid assistance when the Federally mandated time is 30 days. So, Texas as a state and a state of mind is arrogant. Check out the T-shirt that reads "Fuck Y'all! I'm from Texas" Yet, I still live here in Austin mainly because I'm stuck, I think. I would not follow Perry to the supermarket. A useless human being and he does not speak for the majority. He just acts like he does because that is how Texans are. I identify myself as an Earthling first. My home planet is undeniable.
double trouble; texas flood; couldn't stand the weather; soul to soul=all have enriched my stay here on this planet. thanks for the reminder. love stevie (rip) and jimmy, too.
texas as noted cannot leave the us ... this states-rights movement is getting some momentum with the wingnuttia broadcasters, tho' ... sore losers and spoilers
.....Most Texans can't read or write english, much less do the same with spanish......
During the time Bush was governor of Texas, I lived in Austin and was married to an Arab. His sur name contained the letter "Q" but it took his Texas auto insurance company three attempts and six months to finally understand that the "Q" was not a "G" and make the appropriate changes to the policy.
The Republicans will never win another election. Texas carries so many electoral votes, it is like the California of red states. If that goes, the GOP falls.
if i was texas id shit can this lashup the obama stooges forced on the real liberals in this country, texas dont need a bunch of nit whitts running thier state , they have oil and more land then a chinese whore master like obama could use up in a hundread years, it would be more sencible tradeing among thierselves then giveing all thier stuff away to a bunch of republican lite dolts!
We should kick Texas out so they can take their politics and the politicians (BUSH) that have ruined this country with them.
A bunch of sore losers that are upset that their Republicans did not win the election.
Go fuck yourself!
dont kid yourself the republicans won , by running a wolf in sheeps clothing , fuck yourself !
Please keep in mind that our current President has been there since Jan 20 of this year, a mere 4 months. So, get a grip!
an interesting concept....... You must show how it's done sometime...
open your jaws
So what the hell is Perry still doing there then huh?
Oh well, guess I could move to London.
Lots of other US countries to chose from besides Texas.
Up here on the North California coast we refer to this place as Humboldt Nation. There is also the State of Jefferson, which is an area that includes part of Northern California and part of southern Oregon.
Any other US countries I',m leaving out? Betcha they are all over the place.
How was your trip? Luv England/U.K.
I have U.K. grandparents, so can move to London, and get a passport. My sister did it and now has 2 passports.
its a fact the one state thats got everything it needs to tell the us government to fluck off is .......texas,
It would be a shame to have another civil war, this time to keep Texas from changing its mind and trying to get back in.
So if they did leave the union, would that make GWB an illegal alien? Bwuhahahahaha!
as Lincoln was, he was wrong about fighting the Civil War. He should have let the South go. We'd all be better off.
You can't force people to believe something. Good liberal intentions will never change this fact. I lived in Louisiana for 4 years, and most white Southerners STILL won't accept the fact that they lost.
As a result, the rest of us have to put up with all their white superiority, anti-global warming, young earth creationist, fundamentalist Christian bullshit and those moron representatives they keep sending to Congress.
Let Texas and the rest of the South go. Those of us living in the 21st century will be better off.
If he didn't then he would have legitimized secession, so every time some state got a hair up it's ass over something, it would threaten the integrity of the country. Or a state with a lot of pull could blackmail D.C. by threatening to leave the Union.
The Civil War was something that had to be fought to settle the issue of Federal power vs States rights.
The matter has been settled over 100 years ago, secession is illegal, and Texas would be declared to be in rebellion and the Union would roll right in, if they tried to leave. Joining the United States of America is like joining a gang, "you in it 4 life!"
Nothing wrong with secession. Countries break up all the time--Yugoslavia, the USSR, Czechoslovakia, Pakistan, etc...
And, yes, the process is sometimes bloody. However, the blood is usually shed by the forces who are AGAINST secession. Yet, the country breaks up anyway.
Sending the tanks into Texas won't do anything except rub salt into the wounds and make the South even more determined to leave.
Like I said, you can't force people to believe in something. So the alternatives are 1. Bomb the shit out of them; or 2. Let them leave.
Number 2 is the more ethical option.
If they break up anyway, then why doesn't a Confederate States of America exist then?
Or Vietnam? The South didn't want to be part of the Communist North, so why doesn't a South Vietnam exist, if the country was going to break up anyway?
Same with Turkey, the Kudish population there for the longest time has wanted an independent or at least autonomous Kurdistan. Were they able to secede, does a Kurdistan exist? No.
Carpet baggers moving into the South during reconstruction definitely rubbed salt into the wounds, as did the essentially military dictatorship that ran those states for a time. And yet, a Confederate States of America doesn't exist.
Or lets go back further during the Roman Empire. The Jews time and time again tried to essentially secede from the Empire. Rome smacked the down pretty hard, did they secede anyway? No.
So there are a few examples there that are contrary to your conclusion that when a group wants to secede, the country will break up anyway.
If the people want to leave, they can leave, plenty of countries to emigrate to, they just can't take the land with them.
And yes, in this country, under this particular set of laws, there is something wrong with secession. It is illegal. Your option 2 is questionably more ethical, but what's more important isn't what's ethical, but what is legal. In Kolhhaas v. State (147 P.3d 714) the Alaska Supreme Court in it's opinion stated that States do not have the right to secede. While it may not be explicit in the Constitution, court opinions are also law.
....If the people want to leave, they can leave, plenty of countries to emigrate to, they just can't take the land with them....
I disagree. The world is not taking in American citizens. Americans are not disadvantaged enough to qualify for immigration status and they are too diluted in that mythical "melting pot" to be granted right of return to ancestral homeland or country of origin.
So y'all Texans better behave!
"If they break up anyway, then why doesn't a Confederate States of America exist then?"
Because we forced them back into the Union....unfortunately.
Of course, every example has to be taken in context. South Vietnam would never have existed in the first place had the US not invaded.
Some secessionist movements succeed, some don't. My point, however, is the US would be better off had the South left. The South has nothing to offer the world except cockroaches the size of Cadillacs and inbred, toothless people.
Let them go.
... the introduction of genetically targeted poison into the food chain.
...the South would be one giant festering, disease-ridden, impoverished, starving Somalia by now and we would be forced to bomb its pirate havens on the East Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.
that's probably true.
We should fill up some buses, drive to Texas and pledge our support to them in front of the governor's office. Then gather as many signatures from them and drive to Washington and pledge our support in front of the White House. I'm not kidding, that's exactly what we should do.
It's going to be funny and completly humiliate the republicans further. Not to mention that we get rid of 34 republican electoral college votes.
bye texas
just sayin...
:P
Lackland AFB, the Air Force boot camp at San Antonio. I've been there twice and after a class graduates, you'll see a bunch of airmen scattered around San Antonio seeing the sights with their families. Losing that base would certainly put a dent in the local tourism industry there. And that's just tourism, that place is a big base, big base closure means lots more unemployed.
One thing he forgot to point out was that the rest of the entire world would create an embargo on this new Teximerica, and they would be a banana republic. Their bananas would be, of course, oil, which is a lucrative resource, but not when the rest of the world would be getting their oil from the other countries that have much more oil and therefore would not be importing from Texassjesusland. They are so proud of their oil, they can keep it all to themselves and use it for sustenance, because nobody else is going to be bailing you out any more.
Isn't there some Constitutional way we can simply boot Texas out now? Why wait? Texas is a state of welfare queens--a state that could not possibly exist on its own without the taxes paid into the general federal revenue by the more progressive states such as California and New York. I say cut the welfare queens off now. Get that drain off our backs, and let Mexico have that worthless flyover state.
By the way, do you realize that because I wrote posts such as this one, the Huffington Post has banned me? the phoney "liberal" Ariana Huffington hates it when I tell the truth about America's treasonous 1% ruling class and essentially worthless flyover states such as Texas. Huffington hates it when I point out that there is little hope for the United States: we will never get single-payer, government-run healthcare that citizens of more progressive nations enjoy, we will never get true tax reform, we will never distribute income among our citizens more equitably, we will never get rid of usury, and we will never prosecute the criminals who launched Bush's illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq, and we will continue to wage such evil wars to prop up our failed and inhumane capitalist economy. We won't even give the World Court authority over our war criminals. Because of this and more, the U.S. is doomed to certain failure and eventual destruction, probably nuclear, by nations who will end the corrupt, war-mongering United States once and for all. Top "think tanks" have come to the same conclusion, but our main media refuse to report, and covert Republicans from America's ruling class such as Ariana Huffington censor the truth.
.....Isn't there some Constitutional way we can simply boot Texas out now? Why wait?.....
It probably should have been done after JFK's murder in Dallas.
By the way, shortly before JFK was assassinated, the right wing ran newspaper, TV and radio ads making wild, unsubstantiated claims against Kennedy, accusing him of "treason" of being a "socialist" and a "communist" just as they are attacking Obama with now.
Which think tanks have come to these conclusions.
...I can name the institutions, but the media once had the evidence to prove my claim. My naming RAND, Brookings, et al means nothing.
With no current Leader of the Republican Party, Perry is looking to be the one the Party picks. All this is nothing but talk from a big mouth frog and when another emergency comes Texas will again ask for help. Look Perry is doing as much as he can by refusing rape kits from victims anad other laws that don't protect the citizens. Now Perry is using the Tea Party to raise money for the Republican Party. Most of those protesting are collecting money from the Obama Stimulus Bill and others will benefit but their following the wingnut Republican Leaders. With guns being sold to everyone in Texas who knows it might become the Wild Wild West again. At lease many are making alot of money in Texas as they sell guns to the Mexican Drug Dealers.
I live in Texas and just because I have an idiot for governor, who I have never voted for, doesn't mean I agree with the ridiculous junk that comes out of his mouth. Those of you who think that every Texan is in lockstep with this fool and that we think that secession is a good idea is no better or smarter than he is.
I don't agree with every Liberal, with every White Man, with every earthling. I can read and write and I speak well. Living in Texas had been an opportunity for me but like a lot of the rest of the country, the opportunities were handed over to the well off. Could we get some FEMA money to help us eject Perry, Dewhurst, and several other radical right wing zealots? A reminder for all is that Fascism is derived from right wing authoritarianism. Hitler was right wing. All authoritarianism is right wing. Right wing is against freedom not for it.
Texas gave us GW Bush.
I would love to force Texas out of the United States...
but if they would offer to do it on their own, great.
I still think we should sell Texas to Mexico to pay off the national debt. We could use the cash and since Texas is the ONLY state in the union that has a stand alone energy grid, it will be easy to dump.
...we sell to the drug cartels. I would prefer we sell to Japan--a nation that needs the land--and then simply look the the way while they get rid of the inbred hicks and turn that ugly state into a paradise or a giant theme park.
Mexican Americans would take Texas back into the Mexican union.
That is very much like Michelle Malkin's view.
would this giant theme park then be called Seven Flags instead of Six Flags? I don't know if they would have any attractions I'd want to see. Would I need a passport to go there? It might be better to just stay home and help stimulate the US economy.....just a thought.
Let them. They're a state that receives more Federal money than they pay in anyway, nobody needs those insane Christian lunatics.
Can we force them to keep Bush, Cheney, and the other Christian terrorists and traitors also?
Fisrt of all calling Christians terrorist tells me a lot about you, I will not slum to the name calling which exist throughout most of these post found here. I am of Cherokee decent and believe there is no honor in slander of my fellow citizen........you have the freedom to express your opinion,as do I. The difference is as a born and raised Texan I was taught to respect others....regardless of race color or creed. I, as most Texans judge people by their integrity, actions and words. The Native American's took as much abuse as any other race. The difference is we choose to live without a chip on our shoulder...no one owes me anything...I am quite capable of providing for my family through hard work. Even though our culture has been stolen from us we adjust and overcome....My family settled in Texas in the early 1840's on what is now Ft. Hood, which the fed gov. took from us after over one hundred years on Cow House Creek. My ancestors graves were dug up and scattered in towns and cities near the Ft. Hood area. The Federal Gov. has made slaves of us all...taking upt to 30% of what our hands and hearts create. I am proud to be a Christian first,American second and Texan third...Our founding fathers were considered traitors by the Crown of England and Washington, Jefferson and many more would have been drawn and quartered had we lost the battle for independence and freedom to worship. Our founding fathers were Christian men with great courage....I just pray that the hatred in those posting here will come together and bring strength to our Christian Nation...United we will stand and endure.divided we will eventually destroy ourselves from within our own boundries. But all we ask as Texans is 'Don't Tread on Me" we can and shall defend ourselves to the death. We have allowed corruption, passivness and perversion to infect our government. America is not perfect....greed and corruption seems to rule in our government. As for Texas seceeding from the union, contrary to the post, we could and would survive. When not if, our technology fails,we will survive...the over crowded Northen States will be crawling to us to learn how to survive or will be looting and murdering because they have forgotten the way our forefathers survived. I urge my fellow Americans to unite and prepare for 2012...we must stand with Israel...God's choosen people if we betray them, we disobey the word of God. It is shocking to see in the post here that many are condeming Christian faith. Taking prayer out of schools, biblical monuments out of government buildings, replacing it with the teaching of homosexuality, filth on our air waves, and the forced acceptance of those who wish to harm us.. Seceede? If that means restoring our culture and traditional beliefs, then I am all for it. God Bless America...God Bless Texas...God Bless you.
