The backlash is growing against Liz Cheney after she demonized Department of Justice attorneys as terrorist sympathizers for their past legal work defending Gitmo detainees -- and now it's coming from within deeply conservative legal circles.
On Friday, the conservative blog Power Line put up a post titled, "An Attack That Goes Too Far." Author Paul Mirengoff, called Cheney's effort to brand DoJ officials the "Al Qaeda 7," "vicious" and "unfounded" even if it was right to criticize defense lawyers for voluntarily doing work on behalf of Gitmo detainees.
Reached on the phone, Mirengoff offered an even sharper rebuke, contrasting what Cheney is doing to the anti-communist crusades launched by Sen. Joseph McCarthy and, in some respects, finding it worse. Read on...
While he is not as smooth as Keith, I love Lawrence, particularly when he goes toe-to-toe with a lying republican. (I know, I know, that's redundant.) It's good to see that there are still some honest conservatives who see the ugliness in the Cheney family and are willing to (at least temporarily) call them out on it.
I wouldn't call them honest. I think they see that people are really turned off by all the fear-mongering and they're hedging their bets.
Sort of like when a lot of the MSM suddenly pretended like they didn't cheer-lead for war after the war become really unpopular.

While not a startling insight on my part, I have one similar. Conservatives seem to have a mindset much like five to six years old. Have you heard kids that age play? It's like they suddenly discovered a rule book with cries of no fair, no fair, or not fair. They argue they got the smaller piece of similar slices of cake. And god forbid asking them to share anything.

I'm considered something of a political junkie, and can lose my audience's attention real fast, but the only ones I watch are Moyers and Washington Week in Review.
I don't know what happened to David Brocacio's Now, and Foreign exchange with Daljit Dhaliwal.
The last one made me realize how little our media covers international news unless it's a crisis of some sort. I've often felt like I was floating in space trying to watch that one, and sorting out the accents.

My brother drank the Rush Windbag koolaid years ago. Their TV is on Fox News from early morning to the end of the day. Yes millions watch this stuff, are addicted to it and believe every bit of crapola that spews forth from the "news" networks.

It's good to know there are some conservatives out there with a conscious, and willing to speak out. Liz Cheney is a dangerous ignorant dishonest woman, just like her father. She must be called out.
...that when even your fellow conservatives publicly criticize you, that's when you know you've gone waaaaaaaay too far. It's not clear whether the criticism from conservatives stems from genuine rejection of her views or simply from the realization that they probably can't afford to support her views publicly and therefore become associated with her...but in either case, the fact that they're not defending her is nevertheless significant.
Never trust anyone who insists that patriotism requires you to blindfold yourself with the flag.

He was interviewing Chuck Grassley one day, and they both questioned anyone who would ever represent a "terrorist". They claimed anyone working for the justice department who would do that should always recuse themselves because they "couldn't be trusted" to do their jobs.
