Countdown: Alan Grayson Confident House Bill Will Pass and Will Be Reform
Keith talks to Rep. Alan Grayson about whether he thinks the Democrats will get a bill through the House this week and whether we'll be able to call what's passed reform. He also asked him what he thought would be in John Boehner and the Republicans' yet to be written health care plan they're supposed to be releasing this week.
Olbermann: You have already outlined on the floor of the House one of or the basic Republican tenets of a health insurance plan. When Mr. Boehner says he's going to have an alternative bill ready, first off they've been saying that all year and there's been nothing yet, so far. But is there actually one in the works and have your heard anything of what's been in it?
Grayson: I think what's in it is more of the same. They're going to try to do whatever they can to placate the insurance companies. The Republican national party is now a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate America and that's especially true of the insurance companies. They'll do whatever the insurance companies want.
Sadly the same thing can be said about a few too many of the Democrats with positions on the Senate Finance Committee. If you want to help out one of the good guys out there and donate to Rep. Grayson't Act Blue money bomb, here's the link.

I like Rep. Grayson, but there's a flaw in his argument.
It is not at all clear that the final version of the public option (if any is passed) will save any of the lives he talks about. Grayson probably knows this, but is being a good soldier and hoping for the best.
To quote Woody Allen:
---
I also like Alan Grayson within the obvious limits of his being in Washington DC, a city of bought (mostly) men.
From my standpoint the Democrats are just as craven, they just talk a slightly better talk.
Alan Grayson can talk the talk and even walk the walk, but if he stays a Democrat, he will be saying mostly nice things about Democrats when the supporting evidence just will not be there.
It is a problem in Washington.

I contributed to Alan's "Bomb" last night, even though I would vote against this hoax of a reform bill. I do understand Grayson's thinking. If you viewed his reading of letters on the House floor about people "killed" for lack of health insurance, his insistence the bill will save lives & how can he vote to not save lives, you see where he's coming from. But he is wrong. This sell-out bill will ultimately cost more Americans their lives. Why? This terribly flawed bill(educated guess what it will be of course)will cover too few, ultimately fail completely because of costs associated with a very sick group of the previously uninsured & delay real health care reform for decades. Obama & the corporate owned Democrats(Alan isn't one) will claim it's reform, while it is a pure hoax. Burris(Obama's Senate replacement) continues to vow he will vote against a bill without a strong public option. The "best" we can expect is a watered down PO with a trigger & opt outs. Burris will vote NO. I predict Snowe will be the 60th vote. The final bill will be exactly what the Republican Party wanted all along...no competition from the government on care or drug prices, forced enrollment in plans with costs that make the junk insurance unaffordable & ultimately useless & real reform put off for many decades. The American health care system will self destruct, as surely as the economic system is right now. The future looks bleak for the 99% of Americans who aren't rich enough to enjoy what the Plantation Owners have.
Boner's coming out with a health care reform bill. I am holding my breath. Oh wait, if I do that I will die.
Oh, that's their plan.
Did he write it on a cocktail napkin while he was at the tanning spa?

He seems to value the truth.
Very rare in a politician.
The bill isn't going to be stellar (never was gonna be). It will have both negatives and positives.
Stopping recission, denial of coverage (so denial of care) will save lives or extend the lives of many.

Not mentioned enough in all this coverage talk is that the insurance companies will simply deny care to those who by law can't be denied coverage because of previous conditions or be dropped. The sickest of the sick would end-up in the PO pool, with high premiums, deductibles & co-pays. It's called junk insurance. I live in Illinois, with mandatory auto insurance. Sure! Why do my premiums include costs to me for "Uninsured" & "Underinsured"drivers? Because it's a hoax. Laws without enforcement are worthless. Those gaining from this crap health care "reform" are Big Pharma, private insurers & corporate owned politicians.
many democrats are owned by corporate interests - they just happen to be different corporate interests.
Look how Obama has buddied up to pharma
I'd like to see someone like Grayson stand up for people and not corp interests.
other are not going to stop until the people of our country are all in poverty or debt slaves.. except for the top 1 percent.
I just finished off paying in installments my copay for a dental crown, only to discover yesterday I need another crown.
That's like around $1,200.00 out of my pocket in the space of three months.
And as yet I haven't heard of any attempt to include dental care with health care
Or for that matter mental
Not that I mind the latter
The voices in my head keep me company

Wal Mart Greeter or something?
I am sorry about the dental care problems. I neglected my teeth for years because I didn't have insurance, or money.
Finally I could no longer avoid it and it cost me $4,000 right out of the chute.
As far as your mental health needs, good luck.
I would suggest burning your TV for a start. Or give it away, better yet.

The next time a true progressive like Mr. Grayson decides to run for any public office, can we lay off the "unelectable" talk? It seems that by writing off some of our strongest progressives, we allow the milquetoast wing of the Democratic Party (which I believe is being renamed Harry Reid Hall) to gain control instead, leading to the inevitable buckling under to corporate interests or swaying opinion polls.
According to recent estimates, tax revenue from all sources would have to increase by 61% in order to balance the 2010 fiscal budget. Given that State government income tax revenues were down 27.5% in the second quarter maybe we can slap a 30% minimum tax on Health Insurance Company's total revenues.
how are we going to pay for this?

and stop paying to rebuild their schools, roads and infrastructure after we pay to bomb the shit out of it.
The Congress just passed a $680 billion dollar defense budget that DOESN'T even include the wars in Afghanistan in Iraq. Weird, I didn't see a bunch of white guys with placards crying about "wanting their country back" when that waste of money(i.e. gifts to campaign contributors in the defense industry) was passed. Guess they used their amazing math skills to see how we could afford that.

Compare this resume with the goddess of the GOP Sarah Palin's who took her how many years and quitting 5 or 6 mediocre colleges before finally getting a degree in Communications from a school whose accreditation is slightly higher than that of Devry's.
"worked his way through Harvard University, graduating in three years, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He worked as an economist for two years, but then returned to Harvard for graduate studies. Within four years, he earned a law degree with honors from Harvard Law School, a masters in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and completed the course work and passed the general exams for a Ph.D. in government."

Harry rules with a limp wet fist.
a limp type.
he were fighting for Medicare For All instead of fighting for a "public option" so watered down as to only cover 1/5(if that) of those originally intended.
Grayson put it as clearly as anyone can. The GOP just Lies. The GOPers put out false information as if it is the truth to support their arguments. This is just plain lying to the voters by the GOP.
Why should we give money to one of the richest people in office? I appreciate some of the things he has said, but unless you have money to burn, your contributions would be better served by Greens running in local or state elections.
Alan Grayson says that the bill that the Democrats will present will offer "comprehensive and universal" healthcare to all Americans.
I hope he's right - but I think he may have been smoking funny cigarettes.
A "public option"' that excludes at least 90% of Americans? Comprehensive?
I hope Grayson is correct. His credibility is on the line.
Either he has "guts" as he likes to say, or he is just another partisan attack dog and little else.
We shall see.
It would help if Greyson went into some detail
about the 1/2 billion cuts to Medicare. This will
be a cut of the government medicare subsidy to PRIVATE
insurance companies. Why should the govn't subsidize
privat insurance CEO's bloated salaries when the insurance industry
gets it's profits mainly by cutting it's roles and
by denying insurance. We want to hear this loud and clear.
Congressman Weiner is the only one to explain this very
important detail. What is wrong with Greyson besides
being a good soldier and thereby going into as few details
as possible. Also what's wrong with Weiner backstabbing
Greyson and giving Fox News ammunition when going after
Greyson. That needs some big explanation.
Just putting it out there.
Think about it.
Say it.
It feels right.
Grayson just said something Americans always knew, that Reslugs are born liars.
This guy's star is rising. I saw him grill Bernanke on where the bailout money's went.... overseas.... and he caught my eye as a progressive shark.
we need more of those.
He didn't get an answer.... but he made Bernanke look bad and that's good.
I'm puzzled about the appointments by Obama.... the Yes We Can Man gave away the store before he took office. IT appears that he is taking orders from AIPAC, Goldman Sachs and the Pentagon.
I don't understand why the right hates him so much when he gave away the store on day one!!
The left should be much more angry than the right.
Same with this guy.... I wonder how he votes when the cameras aren't in the room. You cannot trust anybody these days. The system is so compromised.
We thought it was a new progressive day.... but even the majority we have isn't enough to thwart the insurance companies, doctores, drug companies, day traders, short sellers, and corrupt banks.
We must work harder to get the moolah out of the process. The majority will never prevail if we are outspent by the demons of crony capitalism.
