From The Colbert Report, Dec. 3, 2008.

Even worse America's problems have made it impossible for pundits like me to undermine President-elect Barack Obama. Of course I want him to fall flat on his face, but only after he fixed my 401K. It is a tricky dilemma and it brings us to tonight's Word...Barack-Handed Compliment. In times like these you must root for the Commander in Chief. And if you're smart you must also zombie-proof your house. And plenty of people have said nice things about him.

[snip]

So like it or not I am forced to say something nice about Barack Obama. But isn't there, isn't there a way to say something nice to someone and be a douche-bag at the same time?

...Is it just me or did anyone else feel that last line was actually sort of accurate? *looks at MSM's coverage of the transition*

Yeah, that was my thought, too. It's like they can't imagine that he's putting Clinton and the others in because he genuinely believes they'll do a good job. It's logical and honest and it's completely beyond their understanding.

Colbert cracks me up. He looks like the douche, acts like a douche, dresses like a douche, talks like a douche, has the hair of a douche, his glasses are douched, he's a douche. Why does he even ask?
Sorry dude, err, uh, douche, you are what you are. Rock On! Now, go get stoned. Oh yeah, the tie too man. So douche!

It seems like you may have missed the entire joke here. Colbert is playing the D-Bag role so well, it doesn't seem like it's a parody. That only adds to the humor. Imagine if John Stewart did the Daily Show without ever breaking character as the "news anchor". That would be an entirely different sort of funny. That Colbert does such a perfect send up of Bill-O that you seem to have missed the joke should be an indicator of how great this whole thing is and how big a joke "real" punditry has become.

having that fat right wing f@#$ on her news program? F@#$ her for that.

I hope Colbert's impeccable impersonation of Bill-O makes Bill-O cry at night.
