Colbert PAC Launches First Ad Asking Iowa Voters to Support Rick 'Parry' in Ames Straw Poll
As Lawrence O'Donnell noted during his "Rewrite" segment during Wednesday night's Last Word, everyone was wondering what Stephen Colbert would do once he launched his new super PAC. Well, this week we got our answer with the first ad from the PAC, asking Iowa voters to support Rick "Parry" in the Ames Straw Poll.
Here's more from The Hill -- VIDEO: Colbert launches first super PAC ad:
Comedian Stephen Colbert's super PAC released its first ad, "Episode IV: A New Hope" paid for by Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow.
The video takes aim at the money being spend to promote candiates before the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa.
Rather than support any of the declared Republican candidates -- or Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is expected to join the field -- Colbert asks voters to write-in Rick Parry. That's with an "A" for America and Iowa, the ad says.
Colbert lampooned the Citizens United v. FEC decision on his show since the Supreme Court struck down campaign finance laws and allowed corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on behalf of candidates.
Colbert's joke to form his own super PAC became a decision with real-life implications for campaign finance.

And one of the best satirists of our time.
The best way to get to these Anti-Americans is to turn on the light and expose them.
From the land of 10,000 lakes
last three we had all took us into wars.
George W. Bush - Iraq and Afghanistan
George H.W. Bush - Iraq/Kuwait
Lyndon B. Johnson - Vietnam
All are/were Texans.
Ever wonder which state benefits the most when the USA goes to war? (easy answer).
Is there something in the water?
I understand your sentiment Joe H, but JFK took us into Vietnam and George HW Bush is from New England and didn't move to Texas until he was in his mid-30s, so I'm not sure you can say the state shaped his personality. Also, I'm not sure if you have some sort of statistic to show why you think Texas benefits most from war. There are a number of military bases there, true, but most (maybe all) of the big defense companies (Lockheed, etc) are based elsewhere and don't have a large presence at all in the state. Maybe you're referring to some oil companies though, though they didn't profit directly from Vietnam.
As a native Texan, I can say that GWB and Perry are pretty representative of the worst the state has to offer--all the b.s. kitsch and cocky "Texas pride" (which can be found but seems to be exaggerated in the minds of people who've never spent much time there)--but I've seen just as much closed-mindedness in MA. Just my two cents. I'd love to see Perry nominated only because I'm certain that he'd lose. He is very clearly a snake oil salesman.
Rick " The Joke" Perry should just stay home and mend his hair and pretty boy slippers.
Is it the 21st century yet?
To win the Ames Straw Poll Rick Perry needs write in votes.
If his supporters misspell(and you know many will) his name by writing it Parry. The vote will probably still count because the intent is clear.
Colbert is promoting his own candidate by the name of Rick Parry.
All those misspelled votes will go to him
And it's legal

Americans need to say "We EXPECT all of you to keep your word" when addressing planet Washington D.C. about all the big promises made to the people the past 60 years.
Of course being thats a long shot at this juncture because there is no honor amongst thieves then what?
Steve really does understand the inbred, white trash, corn nut teeth, meth head TeaChoads. Most of them will spell Perry as Parry. In their challenged little brains Perry would be pronounced Peer-ee. So Funny.
But this PAC nonsense serves as a fire pit where his gullible audience (not me) sends him money instead of a local food bank. Get a grip on priorities Stephen, America needs to be educated not dumbed down dim-witted divisive donations.
Colbert has rallied us his "Nation" to support such works as Save The Children, The Yellow Ribbon Fund ( Troops injured in combat and their families, Donor's Choose (Education). This is his spur to the hindquarters of those of us who want to do a little bit of mountain top clearing. Also, do not call us "gullible". We are not. We are well acquainted with the ramifications of Citizens United, the Koch Boiz, and the lure of untraceable foreign monies (looking at YOU "U.S." Chamber of Commerce) and how it is corrupting our political process.
The GOTeabaggers are vassels to foreign corporations fronted by Koch, Rove and Norquist
Well said. Thanks
but when he says, at about 1:15 into the video, "he can be so juvenile" is the point where I realize O'Donnell just doesn't get it. It's satire, pointing out how juvenile our "leaders" have become by satirizing it in a juvenile manor, with a wink or knowing nod of the head that O'Donnell must have mist.
This is awesome, a super pac dedicated to satirizing and attacking the artifice of all the other super pacs, which have an agenda of their own. Money well spent, I just wish I could be one of his heroes.
O'Donnel sounded like he was serious when he said Colbert's shanningans were "subverting the American democratic process". Shit!...that happened decades ago, and I'm not even sure it's ever been on the up and up from the get go.

Spelling "PARRY" doesn't count for anything.
Texas has only produced 2 Presidents, Eisenhower and Johnson, who were both born here.
Both Bush's were Carpetbaggers plain and simple. GWB arrived in the state at 2 years old and left before the age of 10 then returned later to join the Air National Guard from which he Deserted, then again, to marry and follow his father in to Politics after running 4 businesses into the ground.
Republican Eisenhower got us involved in Vietnam; supporting the French and taking over after the French left. For the near 25 years the US had ties to Vietnam Democrats Kennedy and Johnson only accounted for 8.
