Good grief, the footage coming out of now Delaware Republican Senatorial candidate just gets stranger by the day. From Real Time with Bill Maher, Bill says he's got footage from 22 episodes of Politically Incorrect of Christine O'Donnell and said if she doesn't come on his show he's going to play a clip every week until she does.
The clip he showed tonight is from Politically Incorrect, Oct. 29, 1999:

I'm sure Fox News will welcome Christine O'Donnell with open arms if she loses her race for the Senate. And I'm sure her supporters won't care about any of this since she's welcomed Jesus into her heart and all is forgiven and nothing she ever did before matters. That and she's already got that Palin victim card role down pat. They'll just think the evil liberal media is picking on her. This stuff makes me wonder if I should laugh or be terrified that these folks are not being marginalized to the fringes where they belong.

What she ignorantly cites as witchcraft is actually Satanism which should be considered a corrupted subset of Christianity.

Usually they claimed the higher up the ranks of initiation you go the more you learn, and the more illicit the practice. That was their way of confounding claims from public Witches that they don't practice such things, by claiming they know more, without having to prove they know more, because they were merely anecdotal.

Once they have decided a particular person is an anointed one, it doesn't matter what they've ever said or done past, present, or future. The fact that she was open minded enough - at one time - to actually "dabble" in witchcraft actually added a small positive note in my estimation of her.
Then the fact that she learned so little that she thinks they have "satanic altars" dropped it back down where it belongs.
Sometimes she "dabbles" in intelligence, too.
But not very often.
That's because covens are few and far between, and generally have set numbers of members, 13 being the traditional number but I think now is either 12 or 14.
And the bulk of modern Witches are solo.
That's actually more traditional, the loner who's an herbalist or a water dowser. Barack Obama has claimed the "right" to assassinate American citizens without due process of law. He has affirmed and entrenched our policy of unchecked Middle East interventionism. Renditions continue unabated. Torturers are shielded from accountability via the Obama Justice Department. This is not a rhetorical question, nor am I snarking. This is a serious question (or a few questions) from an older guy who really must've missed something. Geez! I don't even know how to frame the question, but I'll try:
I'm old enough to remember people like Lucille Ball and her television persona, and, say, Goldie Hawn's schtick on Rowen and Martin's Laff-In. There've always been women in the entertainment industry who've used degrading stereotypes of women for whatever reasons -- either there are men who think there's something sexy about it, or, geez, I don't know what, but it's always been around. BUT never did I believe that those women were doing anything other than putting on an act. AND, whether they were acting or not, I would never have considered the stupid schtick to be appropriate for a woman running for public office. So the question is: One, are Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, (and others), and, now, O'Connell just acting? And, Two, what is their appeal to rightwingers? Seriously, why does ditsiness appeal to them in a prospective leader?

While I can still be amused at the stupidity of the teatard movement, and enjoy seeing the Republicans lose one of their best shots at picking up a Senate seat, the election isn't over yet, and that a deranged fool like O'Donnell is an even remotely viable candidate in a fairly blue state like Delaware is quite disturbing. That her Nevada counterpart Sharon Angle could conceivably even win is deeply troubling. I'm aware that rightwing knownothing nutjobs have ben elected to the Senate before, but they usually do a better job of hiding it before the election and/or come from states not exactly known for progressive attitudes or intellectual diversity. The closest equivalent I can think of on the Democratic side would be if Cynthia McKinney were to be considered a serious candidate for a Georgia senate seat.
I'd be even more concerned if I were a thinking Republican ( fast becoming an oxymoron). Regardless of which teabag favorites actually get elected, and even if the Republicans come up short in their desire to take over the House, the fanatic fringe is only going to double down between now and 2012. Even if the party manages to nominate a presumably sane candidate like the soulless Mitt Romney, the convention speeches are going to make Pat Buchanan's culture war screed look downright conciliatory.
