Chris Wallace Plays Concern Troll for the Rich on Fox News Sunday

From Fox News Sunday March 15, 2009. I think the only interests Chris Wallace may have in mind during this line of questioning are his own as he hammers Austan Goolsbee about a line in the introduction of the President's budget.
Wallace: Finally I want to get into a little bit of the Obama budget with you. 3.6 trillion dollars which calls for major tax increases on the wealthy. And I want to read you something from...the President's budget. "While middle-class families have been playing by the rule, living up to their responsibilities as neighbors and citizens, those at the commanding heights of our economy have not."
Mr. Goolsbee, it's a blanket statement from the Administration. People who make money have not played by the rules?
Goolsbee: I think you're stretching a little bit the blanket statement. It's not saying that it's been illegal. It's saying the rules of the game that the American economy has followed for decades is that the core strength of the economy is middle class workers. Over the last eight years before this President came into office we saw an unbelievable squeeze on the middle class like nothing we have seen in decades.
We go through the first boom in recorded economic history of the country where the median family income falls by $2000 while corporate profits and overall GDP rise dramatically.
Wallace: But, but...
Goolsbee: The President is saying in his budget that he is carrying out the recovery package and in the budget giving a tax cut to 95% of working people and that people who make more than $250,000 a year will go back to the rates that they were at the end of the nineties. That they pay a bit more. That isn't going to bring the economy down. And that style of thinking that it's going to trickle down and we should just keep cutting taxes at the top got us where we are today. It didn't solve the problem.
Wallace: But Mr. Goolsbee, again I'm quoting directly from the President's budget here, this is page five of the President's budget. Again he's saying those at the commanding heights of our economy, I assume that means people who are more than middle class have not played by the rules and then again let's go to this statement from page five "There's nothing wrong with making money, but there is something wrong when we allow the playing field to be tilted so far in favor of so few."
And again I guess what I'm asking is there seems to be a moral argument here that somehow people who have made money have done something wrong and need to pay for it and what you're saying, you say "there's something wrong when we allow the playing field to be tilted". The argument seems to be there's something wrong when the government allows people, rich people to keep their own money.
Goolsbee: Well we cut taxes by trillions of dollars for people making more than a quarter million dollars a year over the last eight years. That wasn't a magic elixir for growth. It was a very week recovery and we stumbled into the worst economic crisis in multiple generations.
Wallace: Why make the..I understand the economic argument. Why make that a moral argument? Something wrong. People at the commanding heights of the economy have not played by the rules. Why the moral argument?
Goolsbee: Well look you're taking a line from the introduction that sets the stage for the discussion which is we need to go back to an issue of balance. So in the nineties we had a more balanced view. We've gotten out of balance. People at the commanding heights of the economy with incomes over $250,000 a year have been receiving trillions of dollars of tax cuts while the middle class has been squeezed like never before. That squeeze on the middle class is what got us into this crisis. It's why the President is committed to renewable clean energy that makes us secure from foreign energy dependence. For reforming the education system. For health care. All of those things are about relieving the squeeze on the middle class so we don't get into this again.
Wallace: Simple question. Do you think maybe this is over-written?
Goolsbee: I think it's very well written.
Wallace: Did you write it?
Goolsbee: No.
As long as Wallace plays the good water carrier for the haves and have mores I'm sure his anchor chair is safe at Fox News.

The last administration facilitated the looting of our treasury, most egregiously by way of Iraq. The oligarchs had their way with our government and they, with their puppets in office felt perfectly justified in leveraging the "free market" to make obscene profits. They rewrote the rules and the evidence is the growing chasm between rich and poor, despite what the whining hacks of corporate media would have you believe.
It's time for that stolen treasure to be returned to its rightful owners, the other 98% of the populace.

Obama and his admin need to sharply attack pundits like Wallace who relentlessly attack unions, universal health care, redistribution of wealth, community organizations...etc..., basically anyone who is not pro-corporate fascism.
Look at what's going on right now, and Wallace is complaining that the Pres is too tough on who? Who is the problem here?

how Chris Wallace can even come close to calling himself a journalist. He's not. He's beyond biased. He's partisan.
It's fine to challenge the people you are interviewing. But I have not seen it done in either a "fair" or a "balanced" way.
If you saw his bank account statement you'd probably understand.
The same goes for John King, David Gregory, Wolf Blitzer, etc.
These people aren't where they are by getting a reputation for independent thinking.

As a benefactor of the Bush tax cuts these last eight years, how many jobs have you created? How much trickle down have you caused? What percentage, after deductions, was your tax rate? Aren't you angry with your party for destroying so much of your wealth last year? Why do you still carry their water? How many people watching this do you think feel sorry for your 3% tax increase (on the amount over 250,000)?

I much prefer rash pay his taxes in folding money.
against the oligarchy, the security they have hired for their gated communities will be some of the same people they pay only $10 or $12 dollars an hour. I don't think they will be that faithful to their employers.
And these are the people the wealthy have granted access. This could easily backfire on them.

Wallace's second quote completely countered his own argument about the first quote.
First he claimed Obama's budget was saying that people at the top of our economy are breaking the rules. Then his guest explained that it wasn't a matter of *breaking* the rules, but of playing under rules that favor the wealthy.
Then his own second quote talked about a tilted playing field, and Wallace again goes back to claiming it's a condemnation of rich people.
Is he that stupid?
Maybe he is, but he knows who signs his paycheck and it's his job to create a smokescreen when the public is in danger of being informed.
I think we need to be flat out honest with the "elite":
Think of us as the Mafia. The taxes you pay are protection. We see you got a lot of nice houses and big bank accounts. We'd hate to see something happen to all that. If you pay a fair share in taxes, we won't let nobody do anything bad to you. But if we find out the richest Americans are dodging their taxes, then they obviously feel that they don't need the police to stop an angry mob from taking everything they have.
Seriously, as a society, can we allow ourselves the extravagance of having a tiny upper class monopolize such a huge proportion of the wealth? They are literally parasites sucking the economic life out of the rest of us. Their wealth does not trickle down. It gets sequestered.
Money flowing up is normal, how it should be. Money forced to flow down is 'wealth redistribution' and is more evil than the devil. Of course, Michelle Bachman is the dumbest person ever elected to national public office.....

...I suspect Chris's dad must strictly avoid watching his son in action or else he'd have to spend all of his remaining time on this planet puking his guts out. Chris Wallace and the sneering elitist vampires he represents must be repeatedly exposed for the arrogant and predatory liars they are. The problem is that C&L readers might see these monsters for what they are but the corporate broadcasting complex will always have a louder megaphone with more access to the hearts and minds of America.
Having Austan Goolsbee refute and slam a worm like Wallace just isn't enough to clue the audience into how wrong the Fox agenda is. Not when 5 seconds after they are shown to be wrong they can merely begin pounding the drum of lies all over again - it is THEIR network and their megaphone. The conservative worldview will be POUNDED into the minds of the audience come hell or high water with these slimy millionaire TV talkers 'just doing their job'.
