Chris Matthews Accuses Jim Dean of Trying to "Kill" Ben Nelson
Chris Matthews unloads on Jim Dean, brother of Gov. Howard Dean, and chair of Democracy for America, for DFA's ads targeting Sen. Ben Nelson on health care reform.
Matthews: That's what you're saying.
Dean: I understand what you're saying. We're challenging him.
Matthews: No, I'm saying what you're saying, not what I'm saying. You're trying to kill this guy, so he'll turn around, squirm in bed a while and do what you want him to do.
Dean: We're not trying to kill this guy. What we're trying to do is challenge him to get involved and engage the voters in this debate and we're pointing out as a material fact...
Matthews: Okay. I'm smirking because you're obviously writing the ad. You're writing the copy and yet you're coming on this show and giving us the foreplay and the soft sell.
Matthews goes on to carry water for watered down health care reform in the name of getting something done and asks if Dean's organization wants to get it all or nothing, and why they're trying to "destroy" Ben Nelson. He then pretends to be quoting members of Ben Nelson's family asking about the attacks on him.
Matthews: Okay, what do you think Sen. Nelson of Omaha thinks of your ad as he watches himself described as the enemy of health care reform? A guy in bed with the Mutual of Omaha and the rest of those insurance companies out there in Omaha, uh, how would you think he thinks you're doing to him?
Dean: I think Sen. Nelson should think about the fact that...
Matthews: Should? We're into the subjunctive now. I asked you what you think he thinks of your ad and he gets on, his kids get on, they watch his grandkids, I assume watch, everybody's checking in on your ads and you're blasting away at this guy. Daddy, grandpa, aren't you a liberal Democrat? Aren't you a Democrat? Why are they attacking you?
Liberal Democrat huh? Who in the hell do you think you're kidding Chris?

The best you can give is a subjunctive answer to a speculative question.

Democrat leaders as Emanuel and others have been recruiting Republicans as democrats to be elected on the democrat ticket because if they ran on the republican ticket they would mostly lose..
This is why our party protects the Blue dogs and they are becoming to be the force that determines what policies will or will not be passed... Most of the time it is the republican verse of a bill..
We have seen in the past where candidates which were behind Americans and would fight the leaders have been attacked directly and indirectly by the democrat leaders..
Lieberman was supported against Lamont in the 2006 election because Lamont was against the war in Iraq and other policies which the leaders in the democrat party where behind..
Look at the way they tried to have Kucinich voted out in his bid for re-election in because he was against war and other policies which the leaders were for,,, And Kucinich is outspoken and has introduced bills to impeach Cheney and Bush and spoken out about the BS and lies being feed to American which has embarrassed them....
Same as Caroline Kennedy , when the democrats when against her in the bid for Hillary's senate seat... The Hillary people were the main ones which had her stopped and looks as if Obama felt the same way...

I find it hard to believe that no one saw this coming. More crap to contend with. Thanks, Rahm. Pay back is a bitch.
Blue Dog Dems aren't supporting the Public Option because their corporate owners want it that way. The Dirty Dogs have constituents who want & need the Public Option. It's all about lining their pockets. In that way, they are exactly Republicans.
you must be one of them there transplants.
Some stuff you can't make up!
I tried to watch this when it was on tv and I got so fu*king mad at Matthews that I turned the whole thing off. Just when you think he is maybe showing some sense, he pulls something like this and you just want to scream at him, Shut the fu*k up. Leave this kind of stuff to BillO and his ilk.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
that was it. I guess I learned from the life-shattering Cokie Robots incident. :D
He's a screamer, an interrupter and has no idea who to behave in polite society or carry on a discussion. It makes me crazy when Colbert chops his guests off, and I know it's an act.
This guy just can't stand the sound of someone else talking when he's within earshot.
me-oww!
Matthews was a heavy attacker of Bill and Hillary Clinton for over 14 years and still does it in his sly way..
Matthews strongly defended Bush and Cheney in the 2000's and even say that Bush was a fine person with CHARACTER and LIKED him very much..
Was Matthews Trying to butter up the democrats to run for a senate seat as he stated on his program one day,,, In order to give us another Blue Dog which he likes to have on his program...
I stopped watching Matthews , because even when he sounds like he attacks someone for Obama , he has republicans by the boat load to attack him..
Buchannan's Lies and BS is a ""regular"" on Matthews show..
Notice that Paul Krugman no longer appears on any of the MSN programs. Olbermann ,, Rathel ,, Ed or Chris..
Is it because Krugman tells it like it is...
We have all heard about Olbermann being told not to attack persons like O'Reilly by the heads of the program...
Has MSNBC turned into the same old network which programs in the past were stepping stones for Bush and Cheney when so of their BS leaked into the public... Like Meet The Press....
Well Meet the Press ,, Morning Joe , are just as much for the republican propaganda and deceit as in the Bush's administration...

On MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews said Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) "looked more witchy" because she criticized the Bush administration's homeland security spending priorities on July 8, a day after the London bombings.
Matthews and his guests, New York Post Washington bureau chief Deborah Orin and Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne Jr., were initially discussing Clinton's July 10 comment that "I sometimes feel that Alfred E. Neuman is in charge in Washington," a reference to the Mad magazine mascot and his slogan, "What, me worry?" Discussing those comments, Matthews asked Orin, "Why is she [Clinton] putting the shiv in the very week, weekend and weekday, right now, Monday, when the people are rallying around the president because of the latest terrorism?"

Chris Matthews is a republicans conservative... Always has been and looks like he always will be...
Afer Olbermann received the high ratings on MSN , looks like Chris is trying to play both sides of the field and receive higher ratings..

ADD probably, Bi-polar possibly. You can usually tell which days he's taken his meds and when he hasn't.
He's not been to the Artic or Anartic.
How about the anarchic?

anybody could regard Chris Matthews as anything other, or more, than a flunky/hack/shill for the hegemons.
I refuse to watch or listen to him.
...that Mathews was receiving props for going after Lobbiest Pappas for being more of an instigator of the Town Hall riots than he was letting on?
I said then that Mathews was just an opportunist that swings as the wind blows.
Nice of Chris to prove me right so quickly.

and agreed with you then (with a shake of my head). Mathews is one of those pundits you can't seem to stop watching, hoping he'll someday wake up.
And, he shits where he eats. Stop watching him. Is this loud egotistical blather what passes for punditry? I don't think so. Watch Rachel instead.
selling out? And, I believe in telling children the truth. Suck it up, cupcakes.
he just uses other methods. he gins up phony 'controversies' -- he spent two days screaming about the dems forcing gravely ill people to choose an end of life means.
and notice the language he uses -- there's always a sexual tinge to it -- 'giving us foreplay'; he's such a revolting and degrading influence on the political discourse. but, then, that's what he's being paid the millions of dollars for -- keeping his nantucket sugar daddy, jack welch, happy.
So every time a prosecutor questions a witness at trial, he's trying to kill him?
All Jimmy Dean's doing is asking the questions the MSM isn't.
Hey, tweety, he's doing yer job fer ya!!!

Matthews knows if he plays 'follow the leader' on the popular political news of the day, he gets more money for his corporate bosses. He's strictly a rating$ guy, there are no principles or backbone with this guy.
Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity. Albert Einstein
Face it. He is simply annoying.
Whether or not Jim Dean will say it.
I will.
Ben Nelson is a traitor. He is a sell out.
He is a congressional whore.
Rahm is a traitor too.
He is a sell out. He is a whore.
And Chris Matthews?
Medicated beyond all reason.
Without his meds he just sits there, cries, and pees his pants
on the air.
Isn't that what Ben Nelson tells his kids? If not, then it's up to the rest of us to get the truth to those poor children.
I donated to Act Blue.
It was absolutely blissful.
As far as I'm personally concerned, one positive outcome from this health care "debate" will be the elimination of "Hardball" from my daily routine altogether. Matthews is apparently some sort of political bi-polar. Just when you want to congratulate him for aggressively taking on one of the right-wing clowns, he hops into bed with one at his next breath. His obnoxious habit of never allowing a guest finish his/her thought or point... if he even lets them get a word in edge-wise... makes my blood boil. I've taken to watching reruns of "Scrubs". It's a lot better for my health (no pun intended). Olbermann, Maddow, Jon Stewart and blogs like C&L, Daily Kos, and Huffington Post are the only credible sources of information left.
Welcome to my world.

It was a disgrace. I ended up looking like a jackass yelling at the tee vee.
I wish Matthews had run for congress, we would have been rid of him, sort of.
I am a proud Liberal Nebraskan and I am very thankful for what DFA and PCCC have done for my state. The only message most of my neighbors get out here in the 3rd CD (one of the reddest in the country) comes from the inundation of the airwaves by Rush Limbaugh. The Nebraska Democratic Party, owned by Sen. Ben Nelson, certainly won't do for us what this ad aired by DFA has done.
I thank James Dean and Adam Green for giving a damn about us forgotten Liberals out here in this part of the country. If Ben Nelson doesn't wake up and realize that there are Democrats in his state that expect him to act like a Democrat on the important votes, then he can just forget about our help when he comes knocking, asking for our assistance in 2012.
By the way, I am my county's Democratic Party Chair and I have served as an officer of our 3rd CD.
Big sky country? I drove through your state once. Going west. Night was behind me and the day was in front of me. I'll never forget it.
Nebraska isn't that far from N. Dakota. I hope you listen to Ed Schultz on the radio. He can be streamed on the net too.
I used to live in the countryside east of Rapid City above the badlands and the highway.
I left and moved west because I couldn't see wasting my life surrounded by redneck ignoramuses. I admire the Lakota for sticking in there.
By the way, I have been all over Nebraska and the place is lovely, minus most of the people. Maybe the liberals out west just need to ASSERT their views more loudly. You are so invisible to outsiders it makes people not want to visit or do business there.
is he being largely funded by insurance companies for his campaigns? huh, Chris, is he? this is the idiot and hugely unreasonable side of Matthews I abhor. Mr DINO Ben Nelson is doing the bidding of the Insurance Companies. Period. And isnt he a good useful idiot for them.
...for Tweety to take advantage of everything His HealthCare Insurance offers (before it's rescinded) in order to get his brain fixed.
Listening to him actually makes my brain hurt - so, I don't any more (don't even watch his videos here). Ouch.
"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of Stupidity" - Frank Leahy
...the Democrats are getting "pounded" by under (or un) educated people for a health care reform bill that doesn't (at this time) even exist in a final form.
They need to be wary of playing into the hands of these Repubics that know many things about "dirty tricks"...and just get out some basic facts, refute stupidity disguised as "truth" from the Far right...and get back to Washington in September, get the Peoples business done...and make it right the FIRST time.
Just saying....
Actually I like it when Matthews cuts off a guests when they are not answering his question but mouthing talking points. I will admit that he tends to be a little abrasive and over the top with it at times, but all things considered it's better than asking question A and letting the guest talk on and on about B which is what most of these hosts do.
"Offer engaging examples to dramatize your case. Give the impression that other people have put one over on us...that we are all victims of a shoddy philosophy...To hit the other guy hard, sometimes you have to go ad hominem...Sometimes,...simply demonstrate the weakness of the other person's case...Make sure the other person answers your questions...use the "invisible man" ploy...never refer to [the other person] at all...if possible, conclude with a punch line." From "Tricks of the Trade," Edited by Jerry Dunn, Houghton Mifflin Company, 1991, pp.71-74.Rove and company have taken this to the extreme. We have to do the same.
All they are good for is reinforcing Republican/corporate talking points and pissing me off on a fine Sunday morning.
Don't let these know nothing, tin-eared, overpaid hacks angry up your blood.

Thank god for music, Netflix and pot.

WORKS FOR ME!!!
We are just going to do what we want anyway.
and take names.
Dean should have said, "yeah, we want him out of there if he is going to act like a Republican and if he is going to do the bidding for health care insurance companies. Why are yoiu doing the bidding for Ben Nelson, Chris?"
I cannot blame people in the states for being so upset and confused about health care. From up here in Canada it looks like people there are completely beleaguered with propaganda. But when I see video from the town hall meetings I wonder if Americans are really this stupid? You have republicans saying socialized medicine will kill you in one breath and then saying that the states will end up like France in the next. Yet France has the number one rated health care system and no one clues in.
The solution is simple, get rid of the insurance companies alltogether and go with single payer like Canada or France. Both systems are cheaper and better.
p.s. Profit motive has no place in health care.
Don't wonder any longer. They are.
http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/heather/r...
Bill Maher sums it up.
I do not think it is single payer. Britain is, though. Among others, of course.
Ross Perot said back in 1992 that we should research the different systems used in the other industrial countries and copy the best one.
But, the thing is, we could copy the worst one, and we likely would still be doing better than we're doing now.
Bill Maher mentioned last Friday that France was a hybrid system.
1.) Checking the goggle, I found a link to the ad.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2009/0...
2.) Using "the goggle" again, I find another link that says "Senator Ben Nelson and His Connections to the Health Care Industry
a report from Public Campaign Action Fund"
3.) So, I agree with Tweety somewhat. Jim Dean should have come out a little more forcefully, and stated that Nelson's acceptance has given him, at the very least, the appearance of having being in bed with health care corporations, given his position on the public option. Instead, he seemed to beat around the bush a bit. He doesn't have to say he's accepting bribes, that he's participating in government for sale - but I'm willing to wager that most people think that's what's happening in Washington in general, and in this case in particular.
appearance of impropriety that matters.

Given the rebound in the stock market, at this point, I think most people who have 401K's are happy to let Obama continue to steer the wheel.
I can see some good news. After all, President Obama has only been in office 8 months.

Use your fingers.
realize their 401K is not their property?
401K accounts BELONG TO THE COMPANY.
And you can't do a damn thing if they decide
to lock them up and sell them to the next guy
who can spend them and leave you broke.
In fact, your OWN company can sell them and leave you broke, or they can use them as collateral and you get screwed.
Why would anyone want a 401K is beyond me.
We took all our 401K money in 2001 when the monkey entered office and rolled them into IRA account at our own bank.
They now belong to us.
You see, in the 401K rules, whoever takes it off the table FIRST, gets the proceeds.

I am a little confused. Joseph are yoiu saying that MSNBC (Rachel and Ed and Olbermann) should not report this? They are clearly on the side of the health care debate.I think that the people who watch these shows are not being persuaded that Obama is not good.

How few Americans can get away from their horrific work schedules and put together enough time and money to go to Europe?
I have never traveled. Haven't seen Canada and I live in WA state.
I have never seen Seattle. Why? I can't afford the cost of travel, and my husband can't get more than a day and a half off at any given time or he will loose his job.

While we think of America as a two-party system, in fact Congress does have similarities with the multi-party parliaments of Europe, the difference being that the coalitions formed between parties are less malleable. The Blue Dogs are a de facto third party in coalition with the Democrats, and it would be very useful if we could talk about them in such terms. If we think of the Democratic Party as the Democratic Coalition, then it doesn't seem so far-fetched that one party in the coalition might run ads against the other.
If the Republican Party does implode into irrelevance, the Blue Dogs will immediately take their place as America's second party. I don't think this is a bad thing; in fact, I think it's the best thing that can happen to our political system, the Blue Dogs being entirely more tolerable than the current GOP.
Dean should have said, "Yes, Nelson's an ass that we want to nail".
The problem here isn't that Nelson is doing what his Health Denial Industry Overloads are telling him to do. The problem is that he needs their money to finance his campaigns. If there were public financed campaigns, they would lose all influence over Nelson. The left will continue to waste money and energy as long as they ignore this. Campaigns should be publicly financed, and the airwaves, which are the public's, should be available during campaigns for free.
Here we go again, he is not implying kill as in "murder", but in a political context. He offered to play the ad, which Jim Dean declined. Stop making stuff up, Heather.
Well duuuuhhhh...
However it sets the tone to follow.

He desperately want's to come off as somewhat liberal because he senses that after the last eight years of jackboot authoritarianism that the tide has turned, and Tweets want's to remain "relevant". Too bad he cant seem to keep a lid on his knee jerk tendencies toward jackboot authoritarianism. How he pines for the vice-like grip of the masters.
But the Republican hit squads never were a problem for you were they Tweety ? Nope , not even worth mentioning .
I would say washing dirty linen in public. Are these people proving their point fighting in front of camera? Both are wrong.
