This is rich coming from the likes of Liz Cheney. She's worried about the terrorists having "a public platform where they can spew venom". Well the "mainstream media" has given you and your daddy one, so what's the problem? Pat Leahy explained why this fear mongering is utter nonsense on Face the Nation today. What she's worried about are her father's pesky war crimes coming to light. Not that Chris Wallace would ever ask her about that, would you Chrissy?

WALLACE: Liz, what do you worry about most, the security threat to New York, the possible danger that intelligence secrets will be disclosed, the possibility one of these guys will get off, or something else? What's your biggest concern?

CHENEY: You know, I think it is absolutely unconscionable that we are a nation at war and that the president of the United States simultaneously is denying our troops on the ground in Afghanistan the resources that they need to prevail to win that war while he ushers terrorists onto the homeland.

He's going to put these terrorists in a courthouse that is six blocks from where over 2,000 Americans were killed on the worst attack in history on the American homeland.

He's going to give them a public platform where they can spew venom, where they can preach jihad, where they can reach out and recruit other terrorists. And it is totally unnecessary.

When the attorney general says that he's bringing them to justice, he's ignoring the fact that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed asked 11 months ago to be executed for Allah. He asked to plead guilty and be executed. We should have said, "All right, you've got it."

Instead, we're bringing him and his cohorts to America. We're giving them the constitutional rights of American citizens. And the attorney general throughout the day on Friday talked about this as a crime.

He said in that same interview Mara is talking about that this will be treated like any other crime.

WALLACE: But what about...

CHENEY: There's no question but that the Obama administration now has in a completely indefensible way taken us back to a pre-9/11 treatment of terrorism...

WALLACE: But what about the...

CHENEY: ... as a crime.

WALLACE: .. argument that the Bush administration had all of these people for eight years -- they got a total of three convictions in eight years in military commissions.

CHENEY: The Bush administration worked very hard to put together military commissions. The first round of military commissions that they put together, which were based on the precedent of the FDR military commissions -- full constitutional precedent, approved by the Supreme Court in the 1940s -- were rejected by the Supreme Court.

The administration then put together a new set of military commissions approved by Congress, and they have held these guys at Guantanamo now where they are providing -- presenting no threat at all to the United States.

WALLACE: But three convictions in eight years is not much of a record.

CHENEY: You know, but I think that if you ask the family members of these people -- I mean, you saw the family members, for example, of Daniel Pearl. You know, they do not want to see the United States for no -- there's no legal, no national security, no constitutional reason why we should be giving these people a megaphone from which they can recruit future jihadis, from which they can mock the victims of these attacks, and from which they can really put the U.S. government on trial.

They'll ask for access to classified information, and they'll get access to a lot of classified information in the civilian court system.

Thanks to her very corrupt daddy, the troops were never in good hands.

It's unfortunate the media allows this crazy bitch a plateform to spew her and her daddy's hatred of a President who is at least trying to fix their mess.

she , cheney, spews her venom over the commentator..Overtalks with her father's lies...

So does she mean they would act like she does or is she just afraid the trial will lay bare the culpabilty of her father and Rummie and Bush>

Me thinks it is the later!

Strictly speaking, conservatards like her believe that everyone is as dishonest as they themselves are. Her coward of a daddy already has a worse approval rating than Jr had, who the hell does she think she's fooling with this slanderous bull?

Maybe it starts with fooling herself - i keep wondering how it happens too.

is a dumb phrase. It should be "spitting venom". And if anyone is an expert on venom, its the Cheney clan!

Now spewing vomit- that's accurate, too.

Liz's mic should be turned off when she "talks over" others. Talking over is so RUDE, but rudeness is also a prime Cheney trait.

Liz is being groomed for public office -gag! choke! puke!

Notice Dick is not riding the snake oil wagon himself this week. Since he doesn't recall anything anyhow i guess.

How can anyone take you seriously when you don't recall anything now.

How can anyone take you seriously when you become a hostile witness, to the FBI, the CIA, and anyone else you were involved with, including the clown prince himself - W.

"Stick and stones" are moot. The court would never allow anyone involved in the case to go on some rabid tirade. They'd be gagged and removed from the court.

Cheney Worried About Terrorists Having a 'Public Platform Where They Can Spew Venom'

Sort of like her. Those Cheney's always did hate competition.

Let's see how far to the right they go before they fall off of the edge of this flat world.

Shadowgm's picture

... that the Republicans and conservatives are busy wetting themselves over the proposed trials, and the media just sits there and nods sagely.

They're afraid of an O.J. Simpson/Johnnie Cochran moment - if the glove don't fit, you must acquit - which was additionally made possible by Detective Mark Fuhrman going off the reservation.

It's laughable that Republicans crow about the 'rule of law' and how they're fighting terrorism when the thought of putting KSM on trial makes them gibber in fear.

Radically Moderate ad infinitum's picture

What will she have to complain about when KSM is convicted and sentenced? Other than the fact that she is a Cheney and has a genetic hate on for the world.

... if KSM is sentenced to death, she'll complain it will just inspire legions of followers to work evil terrorist deeds.

... if KSM pulls a Houdini, she'll complain about security and how we should have kept his arse in Gitmo.

... if there's even a hint of violence, she'll be yelling, "See? See?!?!?! I WARNED YOU!'

This trial(if it happens) may shine a light on all the misdeeds of the previous admin. Her Dada just might get called out.
But Dick is smarter than that. He burned all the evidence. But cha never know...........

I don't care if you the criminals get a public forum to spew venom; you've already got it!
Stop trying to defend your father from the crimes he committed and enjoy the time he has left before we finally put him and his criminal cronies in jail!

The left needs to pre-emptively call out the right, and say:

Those on the extreme right, like Ms. Cheney, would have you believe that our justice system is not strong enough to handle people who live in caves and attack with box-cutters.

Well, I say America is strong enough to fight desperate, brain-washed suicide bombers, our laws are mature enough to handle these cowards. Haven't the terrorists won if we give up our Constitution and our Rule of Law?

Kevin Holsinger's picture

Any news-organization that feels like giving these people a platform will seriously endanger American lives can simply choose to not cover the trial. No live footage + no post-analysis = no platform. Just like what would have happened had we gotten military tribunals.

Nobody's pointing a gun at the media's head and forcing them to cover this.

pissed off patricia's picture

I'm sure Fox, in the name of national security, will not cover the trial.

Yes, that's a snark bite.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Kevin Holsinger's picture

...if they were "smart" enough to make a media circus out of their unwillingness to make a media circus.

1. Fox says that it's trying to "protect Americans" by not covering the trial and giving the terrorists a platform.
2. The 24 hour news networks do their standard navel-gazing and analyze Fox' move. Fox accuses the other two networks of "chasing ratings at the expense of American lives". The other two networks might get defensive and cut back on coverage.

Granted, this might be a little too much strategy on Fox' part. But if I was an overreacting sissy at that network, I'd consider playing it that way.

Shadowgm's picture

The media is predicated on 'what is the other station's lead story'?

If the NBC affiliate leads with the trial, it's a good bet ABC and CBS will as well. And FOX will cover it because they want to be in a position to scream and yell like monkeys on crack and fling their own propaganda-poo at the onlookers.

Handypants's picture

What "platform" is given defendants?

No defendant is allowed to turn a court into a "platform" nor does any defendant get to speak openly in court.

What are they talking about?

Speak out in court and even a defendant will be muzzled or escorted out.

One might be tempted to think the idea of giving a defendant a "platform" is just more made up stuff with no basis in reality.

Here's a simple experiment - go to ANY criminal court and try to make it into a "platform" for ANYTHING and see how long the judge lets you speak?

"I know that there are people who do not love their fellow
man, and I hate people like that!
" ~ Tom Lehrer (1928 - )

..no basis in reality. You are right of course and if you look closely at some of the crap spewed by the right, most of it doesn't pass the smell test, i.e., it has zero chance of being the problem they think it will become. We do have that Constitution still in spite of what w and cheney tried to do to it and with the new Administration, it still shines bright. Although, I wish they'd get it in gear and go after these criminals.

surfjac's picture

..we can't get these 'ugly bags of water' to STFU about it being inappropriate to bring the terrorists to justice. First, we get the criminals who attacked us on 9/11. And of course, liz should be worried about them getting off especially since torture was used Note to liz: torture is ILLEGAL! I know it, you know it and the rest of the world knows it! Let's hope the previous administration's violation of that law doesn't get the terrorists off! Then we go after the domestic terrorists who ruined our nation, committed crimes of torture and took us off the moral high ground diverting our attention with fear.

By this line of "reasoning" we should start instituting secret trials to keep notorious criminals (e.g., Manson, Unibomber, OJ, Kevorkian, etc.) from envenomating the nation. The media might be upset at missing the chance to hype the trial all out of proportion, but the rest of us would sleep better knowing that our entirely trustworthy government was efficiently meting out justice without making a big fuss.

Maybe there's something to this "idea": we could then put Dick Cheney on trial without having to listen to his hate spread across the airwaves—Cheney would just disappear to a government-sponsored "undisclosed location" like Syria!

So giving these folks an alleged 'platform' to spew is like giveing LIZ A PLATFORM TO SPEW HATE AT CLUSTER-FOX !!!

What a low-life Liz is......

So they spew a little venom. Is that really going to help their case Liz? I have faith that the judge will maintain control in his courtroom. I think this is one of those situations in history where it's going to take a President with integrity, backed by his administration, to do the right thing, despite enormous pressure from a bunch of right wing cowards hell bent on politicizing every situation. How many terrorists did Bush bring to justice in those 8 long years??? It wasn't many. I can think of nothing that would be more insulting to these Muslim extremist criminals than to put them on trial in our courts. Show the world how its done. Stand by what we believe. That's the problem with Republicans. When put to the test, they apparently don't believe in our democracy or have faith in our legal system.

SgtCedar's picture

"That's the problem with Republicans. When put to the test, they apparently don't believe in our democracy or have faith in our legal system."

Of course they don't. The Republicans of the Cheney brand believe in plutocracy, rule by the wealthy. Or you might call it plutarchy, rule by a small wealthy elite. The last thing they believe in is democracy or the rule of law.

SgtCedar's picture

Wait a minute Liz. Who was President 11 months ago? It was not Obama. If Khalid Sheikh Muhammed asked to be executed 11 months ago why didn't the Bush administration do it if it is such a great idea now?

What we should really be talking about is the fact that all this right wing outrage about trying terrorists in New York has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with terrorism, national security, or bringing terrorists to justice. It's ALL politics. It's all about trying to make the Democrats looks weak on national security, and trying to make Obama look bad. What we should be pointing out is that Republicans would rather play politics than truly bring terrorists to justice by obeying our laws. It's been 8 long years since 9/11, with little being accomplished under Bush. To suggest that our system can't handle these criminals is patently absurd, and I'm confident the Republicans know it. But given they're Republicans, they never pass up the opportunity to make political hay, even when it hurts the country.

Mugsy's picture

I'd like to point out two things to these clueless imbeciles:

First, it is doubtful KSM will take the stand, so when he'd "spew his hateful venom" is a mystery.

Second: When we tried Nazi's in Nuremberg... the scene of the crime... we used the "American style" court system even though four separate nations were represented (US, England, Russia & France). We even gave the Nazi's lawyers. (Several did take the stand and "spewed their venom", which only helped to convict them.)

* There are two types of Republicans: millionaires and suckers.
"Mugsy's Rap Sheet": Recording history for those who seek to rewrite it.

And incidentally, why is Darth's daughter weighing in on this anyway?? What makes her an authority? She obviously doesn't have a clue how courtrooms operate. Like a judge is actually going to allow a defendant to get on the witness stand to lecture on the merits of jihad against the U.S. Defendants frequently aren't even put on the stand at all. Liz is clueless. She's just out there trying to polish her father's wretched legacy.

During this show Liz mentioned that there might be a Cheney run in 2012. The thing that was funny and still is funny, maybe funnier, is that everybody just figured she was talking about Darth Cheney. I think she was talking about herself. Nobody even considered that. The news programs I have seen where they mentioned her appearance on yesterdays Fox Sunday show never mentioned she might be running. It was all about Darth. For some reason I found that very funny that nobody even considered her as a candidate. Maybe it shot her plans down before they even got going.

Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Wolfwotitz, Powell, Rice, Fey and everyone who said they HAD to go at war with Iraq to find WMD's.

See folks, that's the problem right there. (I bet a few of you missed it completely) For Wallace to even continue at all without clarifying the truth.

Truth is: We have not declared war on any country. You were saying...?

a self-fulfilling prophecy.

What's more public a platform then every tv channel for a week? All that coverage on 9/11 sure did spew some venom and traumitize Americans. So, we are allowed to show people jumping to their deaths from 100 stories up over and over and over, but trying a terrorist in a court of law? oh no, we can't do that - something bad might come out on my daddy

This interview seems to be proof positive that the Cheneys, along with the Fox News crew, are all alien reptiles who think they are immune to punishment. And Lou Dobbs will be joining the staff. I have an email box that is dedicated to Dick Cheney terrorist alerts. It has a larger archive than all of my work boxes combined. They both need to go back to outer space and just shut the hell up. Lou Dobbs, too, for that matter. When Cheney was actually in office we rarely heard a peep out of him. Now, the whole family is grasping at straws just to start trouble. Afraid of prosecution, Dickie Boy? Hell, it caused Kenny Boy Lay to die from a heart attack. But not Dickie Boy, because he ain't human. All spewing venom...like true hypocrites. I say let the terrorists, just like the Cheneys, spew their venom and validate their idiocy. Try them in a valid American court, suppress their cases, and hang their asses, if they are ACTUALLY the perps of 9/11. Dick Cheney included. They should add treason and thievery to his charges.

How did I know without watching the video that Lizzie had to have been on Fuchs Noose? Only when I scrolled down a little was I able to confirm it. Fuchs and its' guests are soooooo predictable.
I'm still waiting for Lizzie to accept Rachel Maddow's standing invitation to come on her show. IMO, Lizzie's afraid to go there because Rachel would eat her alive on the facts. Rachel's one of the best investigative journalists on teevee, if not the best ( I lean toward the latter conclusion.)

Be afraid of Rachel, Lizzie, be very afraid, you lying coward.

about the Cheney family terrorists having "a public platform where they can spew venom".

CHENEY: You know, I think it is absolutely unconscionable that we are a nation at war and that the president of the United States simultaneously is denying our troops on the ground in Afghanistan the resources that they need to prevail to win that war while he ushers terrorists onto the homeland

(Denying our troops resources? You mean like your father did)

He's going to put these terrorists in a courthouse that is six blocks from where over 2,000 Americans were killed on the worst attack in history on the American homeland.

(An attack which happened on you fathers watch)

He's going to give them a public platform where they can spew venom, where they can preach jihad, where they can reach out and recruit other terrorists. And it is totally unnecessary.

(It's called the "Rule of Law", and yes I believe you DO thinks it's unnecessary)

When the attorney general says that he's bringing them to justice, he's ignoring the fact that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed asked 11 months ago to be executed for Allah. He asked to plead guilty and be executed. We should have said, "All right, you've got it."

(Again, there's that pesky Rule of Law thing that you and your father seem to totaly ignore or see as something to simply get around)

Instead, we're bringing him and his cohorts to America. We're giving them the constitutional rights of American citizens. And the attorney general throughout the day on Friday talked about this as a crime.

(Murdering thousands of people IS a crime you moron. Hopefully a crime your father and his cohorts will soon be charged with as well)

He said in that same interview Mara is talking about that this will be treated like any other crime.

(Yes, as opposed to what you seem to suggest which is taking them out and summarily shooting them. Hmm.. Let me see, That rings a bell, what Country used to hold people in prison without trails, denying the accused access to evidence, lawyers or due process???
Oh yeah, they used to summarily shoot them too….. I’ll give you a hint, It rhymes with “shmatzi” )

I guess Lizzie Chenney is unaware of The Internets.

I would call a court room less public than websites.

ANYONE can spew venom on The Internets, not just brown people with turbans.

The defense should be that, yes we did fly those planes into the buildings, however we will prove that the buildings collapsed because of something else, specifcally detonation charges (special explosive material has been identified in debris from Twin Towers). We will further prove that the bush administration knew about the attack (were warned over 50 times) and lied in sworn testimony (C. Rice)about the possibility of anyone flying planes into buildings,(Bush slept on an aircraft carrier because of the same threat at a Europeon summit). Further, we will prove that it was impossible for us to have access to the buildings, and the persons who did have access were the security compaany headed up by GW bush's relative, (was nephew or cousin).

So it could be quite damaging if it went on like this but of course it will never happen, 1)as such it would be covered up by government and media 2)the accused still would like to be hailed as martyrs and sent to heaven after their execution

Just thinkin' n hopin'

The biggest benefit of giving the terrorists a civilian trial is that it pointedly establishes that they are civilians, not soldiers. It also establishes that we live in accord with the rule of law, something not really understood by wingnuts like Ms. Cheny or her daddy Darth.

Alan Grayson for President, Elizabeth Warren for Vice President, and Paul Krugman for Secretary of the Treasury!

That's 'hellspawn' by any rational description.

I'm not American, so correct me if I'm wrong. Don't people on trial answer (only) the questions they are asked? I don't recall them ever saying, "OK guy, here's an open mic and unlimited time, so stand up and spew venom about America." Doesn't the judge have power to silence anyone?

Besides, what could the Bush administration have to hide anyway? What venom could anyone spew against a saintly nation like the USA? You're the good guys, remember?

Liz is suggesting to Fox viewers that they are unalert and unknowledgeable....

Much like her mirror suggests to her everyday...

they have enjoyed and exploited a wide open media forum since Cheney got his fat ass out of the WH. Why shouldn't other terrorists, others with far less power and influence as Cheney and his robotic daughter, have a shot at a wide open media forum? They couldn't do the country more harm than Cheney is always trying to do.

unnerving to these republicans who for the last 8 years have done absolutely nothing to deal with these captives. It's yet another example of republicans who have no plan who just want to obstruct any kind of forward movement on anything, in this case, prosecuting the perpetrators of 9/11. Maybe they just don't want to see justice done and the issue resolved. What purpose would not resolving and not prosecuting these criminals have for all of these conservatives who are decrying doing so have for them?
I don't get it. As to putting these criminals on trial in NYC, I'm all for it. I think we owe New Yorkers that much. These bad guys should be prosecuted where they perpetrated this crime.

There's chaney, right on time. Guilty!

I wonder why Cheney is on TV since she is concerned about "a public platform where people can spew venom" - Talk about projection - Liz, you are spewing venom, OK?

Get it?

Richard Cheney will not recall any of this.

George Bush doesn't care.

Liz, if you don't believe you are spewing venom on a public platform you will have to take our word for it.

Dick, is there anything you do recall about the Bush years?

Freed Terrorists To Appear On FOX Reality Show

March 10, 2011
Because terrorists formerly detained at Guantanamo were allowed to spew their venom in an American courtroom in New York City, they were summarily freed on the 'illegal detention and treatment' technicality.

FOX, however, was prepared for this eventuality, and, knowing that the terrorists themselves were disappointed with the outcome--having wanted martyrdom via the expected death penalty ("Have you no Death Panels here?" - Khalid Sheikh Mohammed)--ushered them all into waiting vans outside the courtroom and whisked them off to an undisclosed location for talks. (The ubiquitous 'Teabag Brigade' outside remained unaware the terrorists had left for more than an hour after they were informed.)

The result is the new FOX show, working title "Allah Oops!", which will feature each of the five terrorists, GPS'd and accompanied by their own camera crews, making their way across the heartland of America, starting from Independence Missouri and ending in Los Angeles at a yet to be announced finish line. (FOX's website links to a contest in connection with choosing the end point. It is stated that the winner would be "waiting at the finish line.")

Each terrorist will follow a different route. Each will be dressed as much as possible to not stand out (no Islamo-fascist robes, bomb harnesses and such), so that they may seek the assistance of unassuming, typical Americans, known for their largesse toward the needy. They will be not be allowed to renounce Islam or to dye their hair, but will be allowed to cut it or shave their beards. They will begin with no money or identification, and will not be allowed to hitchhike, but must travel the entire distance on foot.

(that's only half--too much for one post)

Ahem. Platform fear is it now Liz? Watch out! You could fall off the one you're trying to build. I mean even if you don't wear platform shoes. Just while you're flat-footing it up those steps shuffling across stage to the podium you're bound to trip over that big megaphone you've been toting around.
