Very original way to counter protest the tea baggers. The people in the video looked like they didn't understand that it was satire.

Conservatives are often so literal minded that they do not understand sarcasm, hyperbole, or other forms of satire. The think the two "ole boys" on redstateupdate.com are truly redneck conservatives and they believe Steven Colbert is one of them. I'd find it amusing if it wasn't so scary!

These guys are great. The teabaggers are being turned into a punchline, and they're so frickin' stupid they don't even realize it.

I wonder how many of these conservatards asked for a job?

Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

Yeah for the WealthCare for us group. The tea baggers are really stupid people.

What irritates me the most is when I see and hear people that are on Medicare complain about health care for others. Greedy sobs, all of them.

Here's my question for the anti-health people:

When is human life protected at any cost, and when is it expendable?

We could wage two wars to "protect lives", we can spend half our federal dollars on defense "to protect lives"... we can do all of this to protect lives but we can't make our health care system work for everybody?

I swear, the only way these people like to "protect lives" is by dropping bombs or shooting doctors.

not to believe it...but it seems that we are part of the collectively dumbest country ever to inhabit the face of the earth.

What (industrialized) country could possibly be dumber than the US??

Tax the Rich's picture

It is so depressing and hard to accept the fact that 45% of the American people are blithering idiots.

If however, you are able to eventually come to grips with that fact and learn to laugh about it, then you have a good shot at keeping your sanity.

Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

Stupid Git's picture

In all honesty, I don't think we're the dumbest, we're just the least engaged. We've had it easy for so long that much of the population is apathetic toward anything outside their little bubble. In Europe they understand global community and it's importance because they've lived through wars in their own streets, many developing nations hold education as a luxury (instead of Satan's brainwashing as many in the US seem to feel), and we've been fed so much credit that we haven't had to accept responsibility for any of our actions. Add to that our radically faith-based mentality, media propaganda and radicalized nationalism and you get a whole bunch of potentially smart people wasting all their brain cells on learning total lies and fabrications

We're intellectually lazy and amazingly self-centered. But there are loads of dumb people everywhere. It's human nature (and proof that intelligent design ain't too smart).

Paul's picture

help keep it that way.

Yep

What's really amazing is how many people keep insisting this is "the best country in the world" with "the best people in the world". Despite all evidence to the contrary, they really believe that.

Forty years ago a certain B-movie actor and television host named Ronald Reagan was hired to do a PSA for the AMA on nation-wide radio and tv against the Medicare program, claiming it would destroy American medicine. Yet today, two generations later, the argument against expanding medical care for all Americans centers on how great our current medical care is - this with probably more than half of the actual medical consumers on Medicare.

Although I knew about the crowds at other townhalls, I thought it wasn't going to be like that here, and got there too late to get a seat. I was there hours early, but wasted time in the area doing other things like getting my "Single Payer" sign laminated. I talked with the guy in the hat that's toward the end of the video; he told me that he earned money from "the man" by infiltrating groups in the sixties.

I love the sign from one of the idiots demanding Congress sign up first for government healthcare, and here I thought they were already on that plan.

Feeds into my stereotype of "populist righties". The only repubs I know with a sense of humor that rises above simple sarcasm, slapstick, or laughing at things that aren't funny to get along with people, are the repubs that are actually in it for their own self-interest (acquired by laughing all the way to the bank?). The previous ruling set. Not that I like them, but they at least have two neurons to rub together. The rubes can't figure out that these people are mocking them. Sad.

You guys almost got thrown out by the Sheriffs. They were coming after you when you went back into the building.

Never once did I hear anything said of the millions of people without healthcare from those in opposition. The most logical argument was that it would cost too much. Most of the opposition was based on slogans against “Socialism” and “Obamacare” Many expressed their demand that their tax dollars not go for abortion. The opposition came together from Meet Up groups and perhaps church groups. There was a large contingent of pro health reform.

The defining moment came when one pinched faced woman went off subject and stated that hate crime laws were protecting blacks and homosexuals but there wasn’t a hate crime bill to protect good white people like herself. She got one of the loudest cheers of the event. If there was any question that the protest about anything other than a Black Democrat had been elected President that moment dispelled it in my mind. She strutted away proudly (and seemingly a little drunk) having encapsulated the fear and anger of her fans.

If Obama had waved a magic wand over the economic "problem" so GE, Raytheon, GM and Clear Channel (to name a few) could go back to what kept them on top, there wouldn't be such overt expressions of bigotry.
These folks don't hate anyone but there's a contagion mindset about the country going to the dogs like the old expression "there goes the neighborhood".
The same denial that believes endless excuses and scapegoating of some previous administrations could still work in the world economic slowdown of today shows that culture shock can have an account number and balance forward. But the numbers don't have the pull they had just 48 months ago and they're scared. Rather than appear weak and confused, some deep-pocketed GOP elders are sending ambush teams out to make it appear that the ones that are making the most demands can still win. And they're behaving like it still performs the same values conversions like they used to when Florida decided elections and right to life support.
These same people were relatively well behaved during the election and inauguration, except now they're being dragged by the same party float they used to ride on and it hurts bad. I suspect that many of them feel screwed and are unable to place their anger and frustration on any real villains. For eight years they had to look at ad hoc counter-measures of Bush with Alfred E. Newman ears plus talk shows changing pitch on Bushes voice to make him sound drunk. Now its pay back time because we're all guilty of not participating in a followers parade but if the GOP wants to know what worked before Obama's Innovate and Stabilize regime, I'd be happy to oblige.

The Republicans have cleaned the Democrats' clocks for over a month in the message war over health insurance reform. They have come up with one attack after another (featured prominently on C&L, MSNBC and elsewhere, and I have to wonder whether that doesn't strengthen their message), most of them of course fictitious, yet the right has masterfully communicated its talking points in lockstep, using SIMPLE key words and phrases that are now very familiar.

In contrast, all the Democrats have done for over a month is to say "no we're not," "no it isn't," "they're crazy," and "that's factually incorrect." It's the equivalent of "I say, old chap, those attacks of yours are less than sporting." It's been total defense. When you play defense on point after point that the other side has framed, you lose the debate. Whether your facts are correct becomes irrelevant.

The White House and the Democrats should have gone on OFFENSE. Just look at the example of Color of Change. Instead of just complaining about crazy Glenn Beck (which C&L and MSNBC do all the time), they went on OFFENSE and called upon advertisers to pull their ads from Beck's show. Some 46 advertisers have done just that so far. Or how about the Facebook boycott of Whole Foods, to which tens of thousands of people signed on? That's going on offense.

At the same time, Obama made a huge tactical mistake by failing to put single payer on the table as a bargaining chip, instead starting with a public option that was already a fallback position. Then, Obama and the Democrats negotiated in good faith with Grassley and other Republicans who made no secret that they are not negotiating in good faith, and want to kill health care reform. In effect, the Democrats have negotiated with themselves.

Either Obama and the Democrats are incredibly inept at basic politics on the biggest issue of our time over which everyone KNEW the GOP would be massively attacking (just look at 1993 and Harry and Louise), or they are corrupted by giant contributions from insurance and drug companies (Baucus is one of the largest recipients), or a combination of both, and are unwilling to fight these interests to achieve real reform for us. And by the way, Rahm Emmanuel was in the White House in 1993, so he knew what type of attacks were coming this time, and what offensive tactics would be needed to fight them.

I guess bloggers will have to try to pick up the slack, but I'm not hopeful.

gypsykat's picture

You hit the proverbial "nail on the head." I have been saying that to my friends for months. I'm getting downright pissed (sorry to use bad language) at the lack of balls by the Democrats to go on OFFENSE. Does anyone with a brain in the White House realize how totally frustrating it is to care about the health of every human being in the United States and watch the Democrats lose the battle because they don't even have a clue how to do OFFENSE?

I'm almost beyond pissed and I'm almost in tears. How can the Democrats be sooooooo blind as to not see the money being thrown at the Republicans to defeat health care reform at all costs? We know the Dems have a "heart." Now if they could only get a "brain."

Zeboz's picture

do not need to grow as this bill, w/public option will pass with no problem. The Dems know it. More importantly the Repubs know it as well as the insurance industry and they are doing almost everything to stop it. Or at least turn stupid Americans against THIS reform.
The Democrats will show the world just how whacked out the Republicans and the birther/deathers etc. by voting this bill in with no problem.
The problem is the media.
Remember how we were told that the presidential race was close?
Same thing here.

Saying "with no problem" twice and "the Repubs know it" doesn't demonstrate how it gets done. Tell us the process why which a bill containing real health insurance reform, including a genuine public option, passes the U.S. Senate.

We were at a rally for pro healthcare reform and it was about 2,000 people the organizing for america reform bus was coming through it was on private property a local union hall, across the street there were about 30 teabaggers shouting with a bullhorn mocking this poor woman when she was talking about her sick child, and one protester said; Obama is going to bankrupt america and about 150 pro reformers startin chanting "Bush already did", "Bush already did" immediately the organizers of our pro health reform rally ordered us to stop chanting, they had invited the local Fox news affiliate to the rally, when I got home to watch the news hoping to see myself who do you think were front and center, the teabaggers,we had about 30 seconds of coverage, no one in St.Louis knew we had held a rally that big. The dems are gonna lose big this election if health reform does not pass, I mean why go out and vote giving them the house and the senate and they wuss out on us, reaching out for bi-partisanship. Even a kid knows hit me once shame on you hit me twice shame on me. Stop playin softball with them it is time to play hardball, and the rank and file are ready if not you will pay.

Paul's picture

they're complicit. And, willfully so.

Media Concepts's picture

If the Democrats were to go on offense, the natural target of their offense would be the health insurance companies. They could have paraded out an individual or family every day for the past month, to tell their horror stories about insurance companies denying their claims and having their loved ones die as a result. Every family I know has at least one such horror story. You want death panels? Here's your death panels. Insurance companies convene "death panels" made up of "bureaucrats" every day of the week.

But Democrats could only do this if they were free of conflicts of interest and influence of those very insurance companies as a result of receiving massive amounts of money from them. Apparently, they're not free of those conflicts.

Where does that leave us?

gypsykat's picture

You have a point but........pulling out horror stories about insurance companies would mean that you are doing OFFENSE. I sincerely don't think the Dems know how to do that. Look at the way they gave up the Presidential election in Bush versus Gore. They just don't do OFFENSE.

So, are the free of conflict or just stupid on doing offense. I feel history shows they are stupid on doing offense.

Truthseeker's picture

Media Concepts, spot on post. If the Repubs are good at one thing it's this, they STAY ON MESSAGE. Even when they're wrong, which is often the case, they STAY ON MESSAGE. They act like good little soldiers, maybe it's their conformist nature, but they STAY ON MESSAGE. The Democrats are incredibly unorganized and that does not instill confidence in people.

Another thing the Repubs do well is go on offense. Being offensive as they are, it's not that difficult. But the ColorsOfChange organized boycott of Beck is having a devastating effect on his psyche. But what did he do? Did the master crier break out his giant hanky? NO! He went on the attack. Granted, it was a feeble and cowardly attack. But Beck went on the offense, something Democrats seems to be "too nice" to do.
