I did not like Clinton when he was Pres and it had nothing to do with Monica.
I did not like the NAFTA deal that was a big mistake.
We need fair trade policies not free trade.
I also did not like the fact of the free speach zones he set up. The republicans have followed suit. It is just another ploy to make things appear different then they really are.
Wait for people to come on line saying too little too late, and call Bill the height of all evil.
your right as rain about Clinton
yet he always delivers a great speech
and I made more money while he was President than any other one
Free trade is easy to explain (more or less) as the removal of tariff barriers to foreign made goods.
Fair trade would be what, exactly? Does what's fair depend on the individual, or do you have a specific philosophy in mind?
I'm willing to bet you don't like kids on your lawn either.
Bill Clinton was very much a centrist. He enacted policies that I agreed with and policies that to this day I disagree with.
Overall, I believe he will end up on the positive side of the Presidential ledger. Not in the top 10, but pretty close.
Bill Clinton is a winner. He beat the GOP twice, in very difficult campaigns, to win and hold the Presidency. He is still extremely popular, and one of the most intelligent politicians out there. I'm appreciative that he agreed to openly support the Obama campaign.
"He beat the GOP twice, in very difficult campaigns"
He beat George Sr. ONLY because of Ross Perot who received over 18% of the popular vote. If George Sr. would have gotten those votes, Clinton would have not won.
On the second election, Bob Dole....... enough said.
Anyway Bill Clinton..with friends like those, who needs enemies.
Besides useless shit slinging negativity, what the hell is your point? Next you'll be giving us your right wing propaganda laced interpretation of why Kennedy beat Nixon in 1960.
On Tuesday when Joe the Dumber(another of your stupid, fraudulent idols) appears at one of Grandpa's (white nationalism) rallies in a fucking tuxedo, just remember, you helped pay for it. LOL.
If, if, if. We don't "do hypotheticals". He won. The end.
(You know it also works for Gore in 2000, if Nader, if the Surpeme Court... if, if, if. Instead we got stuck with 8 years of misery guts.)
Clinton is a great speaker. That's about half of a president's job. So is Obama; a great speaker. They have to lead, and convince, the crowd. A president must be a good salesman. A divided nation is, ultimately, ineffectual. Look at America today. In ruins.
With all this money spent on negative ads to scare the elderly Jews of Florida against Obama, the overwhelming majority of elderly Jews, in fact, continue to support Barack. This video is proof positive of that.

Joe Gandelman over at The Moderate Voice has an interesting take on this part - go read it>> http://themoderatevoice.com/
“I haven’t cleared this with him and he may even be mad at me for saying this so close to the election, but I know what else he said to his economic advisers (during the crisis),” Clinton told the crowd at a Wednesday night rally with Obama in Florida. “He said, ‘Tell me what the right thing to do is. What’s the right thing for America? Don’t tell me what’s popular. You tell me what’s right — I’ll figure out how to sell it.’”
Basically that the last bit can be taken out of context and used by the McCan'ts. He states it much more clearly than I can.
I did cringe a bit when Clinton said that. Bill could have worded that a whole lot better than he did.
....to Bill speaking on behalf of Barack, I always have the feeling that he doesn't quite have his heart in it - and that subconsciously, he harbors resentment because Hillary didn't come out on top. That's why those "awkardly worded" comments come out.
I think, on the whloe, it's good that the Clintons didn't really do a lot of high-visibility campaigning until now, when Obama pretty much has the deal sealed. They can help with convince those last few Hillary lovers.....
I thought that was brilliant, not negative. No one man knows everything. The economy is a complex monster. If anyone said they knew all about it, I'd be suspect.
The highest paid bankers and experts in the world, got it wrong, and with GOP backing.
In contrast McCain --who has confessed to know little/nothing about the economy-- still flew into action mode, "maverick" that he is, and made himself look a fool. Now imagine it was "real life" and he was actually doing the deciding himself, as president. Listen to no one, make spur of the moment decisions. Yeah, it'd be even worse than it is now.
Obama counters with, just as Bush "listens to the generals"... I consult people on the economy. What's wrong with getting advice?
Al and Tipper Gore will be down here today campaigning for Obama. I listened to Bill's speech yesterday and thought it would be good for Obama, especially in that area of the state.
Why this Presidential race is still a race befuddles me.
Come on America, lets all just vote for the smart black guy Tuesday and have a beer.
Since I voted for the "smart black guy" last Thrusday, can we make it a martini and have it during happy hour later today?
Make mine a vodka martini, shaken with a twist (wearing a miniskirt.)
Oops sorry, we only do Sapphire gin martinis in this witch's cave.
I voted yesterday evening and am at work nursing a hangover.
are tight, some are currently showing 3 to 4 points and within the margin of era.
"smart black guy" I love when people make comments like these, oh he is so intellectual, oh he is so smart, oh he is so eloquent.....
Without even realizing that their current President (whom they can't seem to stand and they call an idiot) has earned a degree from Yale and an MBA from Harvard...hmm, who else has gone to Harvard...I can't quite put my finger on it....
That's right, stay way off topic because the reality of this pending ass whipping Tuesday is painful, isn't it?
I haven't heard anybody on this site--or anywhere else, frankly--claim that going to Harvard qualifies one for the presidency, or anything else. Going to Harvard, alone, doesn't translate into a person being smart, qualified, or in possesstion of a reasoned temperament.
I made my decision to vote for Obama based on several factors, one of which was that I deemed him to possess an intellect nimbler than his opponent. It had nothing to do with Harvard, which I couldn't give a rat's ass about, honestly.
Yes, I found him smarter--more intellectual, more eloquent--and much more inclusive of the opinions of people who don't always agree with him, both on the left and the right. If I want greater unity in this country--and I do--I decided I needed to give a chance to the person who at least has ideas in that direction.
Bush got into Yale because of family ties. With polls you need to be aware of sampling error which is based upon probability theory, so I'm sure you don't understand it well. If you look at weighted averages of all the polls, over time, they are fluctuating around a clear lead for Obama. You are likely looking at small noise creating short-term trajectories that aren't real. John, for us here, you're like the loud-mouth uncle at the family reunion who, although perhaps slightly above average, thinks he's brighter than he is. He goes on his little rants not knowing that most others there: 1) understand his underlying logic better than he does, 2) understand the holes in his thinking better than he does, 3) knows that he doesn't fully understand their logic, and 4) knows he is likely never to change his mind. The surest sign of this is someone who never concedes a point and doesn't recognize the trade-offs in their own thinking.
... you do know that Shrub is a moron, right? That his "degrees" are window dressing? That everything he has, or has achieved, is the result of his being a member of a crime family? That he's the worst president in American history? That he has a low IQ? That he can't speak intelligible English? That ... oh, never mind. Take your Flintstones vitamins and turn on the GameBoy.
Yes, an MBA, an economic wizard. But wait, look... total economic collapse. John, Daddy paid his way, and always has.
Bill Clinton was the best Republican since Eisenhower.
NAFTA is toxic.
So was the deregulation and "End of Welfare."
End of welfare for people in need, corporate welfare = okay.
His boorish behavior provided an open door for the reactionary Right.
was the best President since Truman.
You would prefer retaliatory tariffs to NAFTA?
The welfare reforms were both badly needed and widely popular.
His "boorish behaviour" did not affect his popularity with the country or the world. He was immensely popular when he left office and (but for that pesky Constitutional amendment) would have easly won a third term.
Had Gore not tried to distance himself from President Clinton, show he was his own man and ignore his advisors, we would not have had 8 years of Bush.
This was a true "snapshot" and I watched every minute of it despite it's late hour as did 35,000 americans who were there. This was the quintessential passing of the torch to Barack Obama and the clear connection of Obama's economic policies to that of Clinton under whose presidency americans had increased wealth.
When you combine this endorsement of Clinton and the memory of american wealth under his administration and then view the new Obama ad with Bush and McCain sitting all cozy in the rearview mirror, the image is indelibly imprinted on the psyche.
This race is NOT close, folks. And Tuesday will tell the tale. Fact is there are too many Republican pollsters out there trying to muddy the water with diluted and inaccurate facts.
As for the "undecideds", I think CNN tipped their hand to what's up with that - these so-called "undecideds" are actually Bob Barr and Ralph Nadar folks who could not be counted under the TYPICAL questions of the pollsters who had the choice between only two candidates.
It also appears that Bob Barr is picking up enough steam to really be McCain's "spoiler" in this election. Bob Barr has come to epitomize the Republican party core at this point before the hijacking of the neocons and the religious right. I think we're going to be shocked at how many points Bob Barr takes from John McCain on Tuesday.
The statement by Bill Clinton can be taken out of context, I totally agree. However, remember who he is REALLY talking to. He is speaking to elderly voters in Florida. He is playing on their patriotism, and also talking to their view that experience and age should be paid attention to. Call it the "grandma effect".
With this statement Clinton is attempting to accomplish two goals.
1) He is reinforcing Obama's inherent pragmatism, which is playing very well with a country that is clearly fed up with ideology and partisan politics.
2) He is comforting elderly voters that Obama is not some inexperienced kid that will go off half cocked on his own (remind you of anyone in particular, perhaps a certain sitting President), and that he will seek counsel from anyone with the right experience and insight.
Yeah, it was a tortured statement, but I believe it can only help.
That's a very good point.
I'm often half-cooked.
And in a miniskirt?
Waist too thick.
But my legs are better than some women, my main holdover from my body-building days,
Hairy though.
Sounds kind of like this guy.
Well I am of Scottish decent despite my Welsh sobriquet.
We call it the the Curse of the Scots; we lose hair where we want it, and gain it everywhere else.
I have a wee bit o' Scots in me as well.
And a wee bit o' scotch as often as possible.
Who cares? Men in skirts. I love it!!
I'm mostly English with a wee bit o' Irish (granny O'Gorman), and a dash of German, from who knows where. I pass for a Candian these days.
Important McCain advisor tells Florida Jews "we need to bomb Iran for the sake of the Iranians". Here's the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D2FBYy1vXY
In the final chapter of his campaign, John McCain who once was considered to be a reputable, decent individual has continued his ad hominem attacks on Obama ad nauseum and to the detriment of his own legacy.
We've watched our once-dubbed "war hero" McCain slide into the depths of depravity with his continued and heinous race baiting (Ashley Todd "set-up", Joe The Plumber "Farce", Sarah Palin "Treason"?, etc.)
Now, instead of going out with dignity in the closing days of this campaign, this mentally-challenged man takes the low road consistently and will be standing there wondering why the american people are repulsed and disgusted by him - as will Sarah Palin for the rest of her life.
You see - the american people have recognized that in dividing ourselves even further, we have no power and no future. These were the tactics of the Bush years which have resulted in the almost total destruction of this country in every respect.
We inherently know (on a animal/human level) that our very "survival" now depends on a leader who will unify us once again because in numbers, we have strength; in strength we have a voice; in unity we have international clout.
People going into the voting booth on Tuesday will be voting with their "gut" and the knowledge that we are on the brink of disaster and there is only one choice which makes sense at this critical juncture - and that is Barack Obama, the Uniter.
This race is over.
McCain will probably eke out a narrow victory in Florida, but he is NOT winning Pennsylvania. PA hasn't been in the GOP column since 1988, and with the economy so bad...there is no way they are voting Republican this time. Sarah Palin can go to all the hockey games she likes, she can walk all over the more conservative parts of PA all she likes...bottom line...the McCain campaign ain't winning PA. It's also a given that the McCain campaign has essentially conceded Michigan, Wisconsin, Maine, New Hampshire, Iowa and Colorado to Barack Obama. McCain ain't winning Ohio either. Throw California onto the Democratic side also.
Game, set, match. Game over.
McCain, of course, has his "own polls" which are as delusional as this old goat is!
The "real polls" which matter are the state polls and every poll in every swing state has Obama leading by a handy margin. In addition, Obama is making headway into traditional red states as well land McCain, the Elder, is having to play total defense of his own turf at this point.
Obama has shown his "executive skill", as Clinton said, by the way he's organized and conducted this campaign which will be precedent-setting in political history in every respect. Not only was it a "clean campaign" as contrasted to McFilthy's campaign of smut and smear, terror-baiting and race-baiting, Obama has had a consistent message while McDepends has been all over the map - trying this stunt and the next stunt hoping to make some headway.
Actually, the clip which was played over and over (and will be for years) which epitomizes the conclusion of the McCain campaign is the one in Ohio where JTP stands him up and he's standing there like a senile, old geyser moving his head like some old owl, scanning the crowd for his favorite Joe. Since the audience was beefed up with 4,000 school kids to make it look like he had an audience, these kids were of no help to this man in his confused state. Cindy looked on like a stiff mannequin with over-processed hair. This will be the closing snapshot of the McCain campaign.
All he and Cindy now need to complete this picture will be to stand there looking like idiots with plungers in their hands - because they will be "plunged" on Tuesday - "and away go troubles down the drain"....RotoRooter.
Give McCain some credit... it's not like he can go out there and say "We're losing... and let's not try to lose in a bad way."
He's been all over the map (literally and figuratively) this campaign season, so what's one more half-truth to his huddled mass.
I dare dream that the repubs go out in a landslide and that the Palinistas eat crow for the next four years when they see the country is not falling apart or being over-run with foreign terrorists or becoming a retribution for pre-Civil War slavery. I hope they will see that their fears are groundless and work with the rest of us to solve things instead of being obstructive. I want Bill-O to choke on his own bilious spoutings and Newt et al to be relegated to who?-ville.
Palin is speaking somewhere and most of her family is on stage with her. They have little Trig dressed in an elephant costume. Just kind makes you uncomfortable to see it.
Trig's hayfever?
I can't believe the way this woman has used her children for political advantage. It's heinous if you ask me. She has her infant out there at midnight offering him up to the evangelical fringe fanatics like some "pagan sacrifice" - utterly and totally abusive.
She lost intelligent american women long ago but her continued parading of her children like political pawns in our faces is such overt pandering that it's reached a disgusting point. These kids look like they've crawled out from some rock in some remote part of Alaska, let's be honest here. When we see Todd, we are reminded of "domestic terrorism" because of his membership in the Alaska Secessionist movement and his "homebuilding buddies" called Spenard Building Supply - the same supply who not-so-coincidentally got the bid for the multi-million dollar sports complex in Wasilla....yessiree....that same Spenard Building Supply who built the Palin residence (payoff?) IS the same gang of thugs who have taken Ted Stevens down. This is not over by any stretch for the Palin's - not a bit.
Those poor kids. I hope she has set up a fund for the therapy they'll need.
Look at the state polls New
Fri, 10/31/2008 - 06:24 — Roz
McCain, of course, has his "own polls"
And Clinton luuuuvs polling the electorate
Particularly those of the female persuasion.
Hey, the BJ just made him way cooler, in my twisted mind.
As my sister, who is struggling with deep depression these days said, "Hey, I'm depressed, not incompetent." Well a BJ has the same effect: does not affect his ability as president.
Maybe I'm immoral, or perhaps I just don't subscribe to "convention". We are all pigs, some with lipstick. Get over it, we are beasts; just scratch the surface, and see what's underneath. So we use forks and napkins to eat our kill; so civilized???
Wasn't it in the Meet the Press interview where McSenile was pulling his poll numbers out of his Depends? Every pschiatric patient has their own "take on reality" - as does John McPTSD. Hell, his polls probably talk to him every day, too?
Where are his medical records anyway? Especially his psychiatric ones? Where are Madam Augmentation's medical records.....Day #8 on Palin's HealthGate!!
I think Florida is going to lean Obama a lot more than anyone is predicting. There are so many newly registered young people who still have not been polled and from what I can tell, they are turning out.
Palin has gathered as many votes as she's going to get. All she's doing now is keeping the base stirred up and trying to motivate them to take the effort to vote.
You got it! Florida IS NOT as close as McCain and his pollsters would like us to believe; in fact, the new voters alone can swing the state to Obama. When you factor in the youth vote, it's overwhelmingly Obama - just like all the rest of the swing states.
Palin's not gathering any votes; in fact, her new "disapproval number of 59% (up 9% in the past 3 weeks) tells us that she's become a liability to McCain. 30% of voters have pinned Palin as the reason they would never vote for McCain.
pissed off patricia: Here's something you might find of interest regarding Florida. Sarasota, which has never gone Democrat in 5 decades had a stronger turnout for Obama yesterday than it did for McCain. It's happening all across Florida - the networks aren't painting the entire picture in order to keep the public's attention and their ratings.
In fact, other than CNN (or was it MSNBC) no network told the truth about McCain's Ohio rally and it's pathetically small audience. He had to bus in 4,000 school kids as a "field trip" to make it look like he had anyone there.
Here's what's really going on in Florida:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/31/...
The networks aren't talking about the large turnouts down here but we know about them. People just aren't as excited about McCain as they are about Obama. Even McCain's supporters aren't excited by him, he just turns out to be the only Republican on the ticket.
I have been to three rallys so far. Dunedin, Orlando, and the one in Kissimmee with Bill. My friend also got to see Biden in Palm Harbor. One thing I have been impressed in is the crowd and the enthusiasm of it. I have waited in line and walked miles in those lines waiting for the rallies. I think that the local news probably would be a good source on the real size of these events since they have their helicopters overhead.
Leave it to Bubba to make a major endorsement speech with Obama in a town called Kissimee.
It sounds to me like you've got a dose of Clinton-envy? Clearly, he has sex appeal and charisma - much to the chagrin of shall we say "less than potent" men?
Actually I liked having the ol' satyr in office. It was nice to think we finally had someone young enough to have a sex life. I mean Ronnie and Nancy probably hadn't done it since the Vietnam era, and do we want to imagine pappa boosh and barbara knocking boots?
Once this campaign is over, I expect there will be many changes and surprises in store for the losers.
1) The Palins may find politics just a wee bit different when they get back to Alaska. She may get to run out her term, but she's finished. Besides, she's had a taste of the national stage. I don't think she has any future in the GOP, but I can see her doing the "punditry" thing either on FOX or right wing radio.
2) Grandpa is done. He sold his soul and his integrity to try and win this thing, and he will find that it won't be so easy to get it back. With a clear majority in the Senate, and a minority party that is pissed at him for, in their minds, blowing the election, he will be an outcast. I fully expect Sen. McCain to retire from politics.
3) I'm not so sure that negative campaigning is dead. It has proven to work, but that there are limits. My view is that negative campaigning will continue but that the line has been moved. Personal attacks are out. Religious fear mongering is out. Skewing voting record statistics and using half truths and half lies to make a point are still probably in.
4) I expect the "mix" of pundits and "experts" on FOX to change. I also expect the extremist rhetoric to be dialed back.
I've noticed a decided shift in the media over these past few days. I believe they're realizing that their errors of omission will be held against them in not bringing the real truth to americans.
Many political pundits and newscasters' careers are in the tank due to their pandering and propaganda pushing.
As for the new bar being set on disgustingly negative ad hominem attacks, Liddy Dole has set that new precedent and will be swept out of office as a result. Then she will have to pay the piper due to the lawsuit which is being filed against her.
As for the Palin's, I think Americans just want them all to "go away" and never be heard from again.
On Wednesday, this country will launch a "sweep McDepends out of Congress" campaign to get rid of the filthpot which he has lowered himself to become. We surely don't need his "ilk" in Congress representing us.
McCain has become the poster boy for sleaze.
Seriously negative campaigns are run by candidates who have nothing of their own to offer. So they spend their money telling you how bad you should think the other guy is as a candidate. When all you have is negative opinions about someone else, that leaves a void in your own record. McCain's negative campaign ads down here are dark and they portray a since of fear. He never mentions why he would be the best choice, only why Obama would be the worst.
Using a football metaphor, it's called "total defense" when a team doesn't have a quarterback or an offense.
McCain has nothing to offer this country except "4 more years of Bush" and his failed policies.
It was clear from the outset that McCain was in over his head. His capricious (treasonous?) selection of Sarah Palin showed just how desperate he was. Hell, he couldn't even muster up his own base before that! Imagine that? Since his ego was bruised in being rejected by his own base, he had to pull a stunt - a sad stunt which backfired in his face and ruined the career of the governor of alaska forever. She's now made Dan Quayle look intelligent.
We've witnessed MSNBC eclipsing CNN and Fox for the past 6 night straight which is very indicative of what's happening across this nation. I've also figured out why Fox's numbers are even as high as they are: THE RIGHT WING LUNATICS HAVE ONLY ONE STATION TO WATCH WHICH SPEWS THEIR DRIVEL - FOX NEWS!!
The left and Independents spread their attention to the rest of the networks - thereby diluting their viewership. This is not rocket science and for Fox to think they are actually a top news station is hilarious. They are getting 100% of the 30 percenters/GOPers!!
Great point. Fox is an info-mmercial for rednecks, even the ones wearing ascots.
Fox will survive because they are just about the last refuge for some Americans addicted to hate and ignorance. Where else will the addicts go for their fix if they lose fox and right wing radio?
Gospel TV?
I never said FOX would die...just change...abit. As everyone has pointed out, they are losing viewership and it is in the important youth bracket and of course more centrist viewers. Murdoch will fix that. I'm sure he wants to buy another boat this summer.
POP, you may very well be right about Florida, but that is a very divided state. If McCain loses Florida it will only make the rout bigger.
Lastly, if Sarah Palin REALLY wants to perform a public service, she should get her children back in school. The country doesn't need any more uneducated morons.
Man, talk about jumping holidays:
http://laughlines.blogs.nytimes.com/
I was there! It was awesome! I didn't get home till 4 am (I live in the Tampa area).
Jimmy Smits was pretty good too. He even used some of his material from The West Wing and said that he based his character (Matthew Santos) off of an unknown Democrat senator named Barack Obama.
What I found great was even though there was a few McCain protesters there, it didn't get violent, people didn't go on the attack.
I'd love to see Bill Clinton appear on FAUX News.
In no time flat, he'd probably have one of the blond bimbos giving him a hummer on air.
Poor John here doesn't get the electoral college system.
To sum up, Bubba rocked. He's top in his game.
