Bernard Goldberg Responds to Jon Stewart Slamming Him for Down Syndrome Statement
After Bill O'Reilly only shows the portion of The Daily Show clip where Jon Stewart curses at Bernard Goldberg rather than Stewart's entire response to Goldberg saying that "liberals don't have five kids--one of them has Down Syndrome--liberals certainly don't allow that to happen". Goldberg responded:
Who do you think is more likely to willingly and knowingly have a baby with Down Syndrome, a pro-choice woman or a pro-life woman; a woman for whom religion isn't terribly important or a woman for whom religion is important; a liberal woman or a conservative woman? The odds are that it's the pro-life, religious conservative woman that would make such a compassionate decision and the reason, the reason he's so upset is because he like most liberals think they have a monopoly on compassion and she shows that they don't.

And nice hatchet job on editing the Daily Show segment O’Reilly or your audience would have known Stewart actually had a substantive response to Goldberg that made what he said tonight look just as stupid--not that it was really any different from what he said in the previous show.

there was so much information and conjecture about the 'unusual' circumstances of Sarah's magical pregnancy and Trig's birth, I'm still not 100% sure that Trip isn't Bristol's second.
That aside, in Miss Sarah's recent interviews with Oprah and Barbara Walters, she provided almost verbatim quotes about when she learned that Trig would have Down's Syndrome. She said she was scared and thought about abortion, and that she understood, "why a woman would feel it's easier just to do away with some less than ideal circumstances."
Later in the Walters interview she reiterated that "women choose an easier path to perhaps, if you will, do away with the problem."
In this way, she condemns all women who've made the choice to have an abortion to be considered as 'less' than she, because they took the "Easy" way out; and, she professes her martyrdom - she is to be exalted because she, Miss Sarah, is sacrificing so poor little Trig can be born (to be a prop).

Goldberg is doing a version of "only sluts need abortions," but the only predictor of any demographic being likely to want abortions is whether they have two X chromosomes.
And the sooner that's made clear to these chumps (yes, Bernie--your daughter, your mom, your aunts, your grandma--ask around), the better.
The dividing line isn't being Right or Left--it's whether you have the ovaries to decide for yourself if you want a baby or not, and then take appropriate action, whether it's an abortion or finding an obstetrician.

Now, I'm inclined to believe this sort of passivity, laziness and/or denial is more common to conservatives (I honestly think that's why Palin didn't do it), but anecdotes aren't data. So if you have data, I'd love to see it.

The brilliant analysis that Mr. Goldberg referred to was the punchline by Mr. Stewart that pointed out that the Kennedys (a relatively large liberal family) started up the special Olympics for handicapped and down syndrome children which was edited out of the clip to avoid having to respond to the actual point he was making. Society used to ignore Downs people, but thanks to liberal understanding of methods of learning we can now facilitate Downs people into a more fulfilling and productive life. The same holds true for people with Autism.
The Repug response to mental disorders is to warehouse them in some private institution where they will not be seen, and the Liberal response is to understand the symptom, what actions can produce the best results, and create a spectrum of care that will help these people integrate into society according to their abilities.
