Beck Asks His Audience to Imagine a Terrorist Attack For the Holiday Season

Happy holidays from Glenn Beck everybody! Beck in another one of his phony populist rants asks his audience to imagine a terrorist attack on the United States where we’re as lucky as we were when the World Trade Center was hit. Just when I think this clown can't get much worse, he manages to one up himself again. I will be thankful when he finally is no longer polluting our airways.
Beck: You know everything is too big to fail, but nobody talks about the little guy. Nobody talks about the individual. Let me ask you this question. Please ponder this over the holiday season. Heaven forbid anything happens. God help us if al Qaeda would come but imagine if somebody could succeed in blowing up any of our great American icons. If they destroyed all of Washington, let’s just pretend that we would be as lucky as we were with the World Trade Center where everybody was gone or most people were gone—and they destroyed the Washington Monument and everything else—all of our enduring symbols, all the monuments we’ve always treasured—would it matter?
I don’t think so. The monuments are meaningless. The monuments are there to remind us who we are. But we have forgotten. We have become about the structure. We are the people that defeated the most powerful empire on earth as a group of rag-tag farming colonists. We were the people that explored. We mapped. We tamed the west. We crossed the mountains in wagons. We stunned the world with technical marvels and defeated the Nazis. We defeated the communists. We walked on the moon.
Nobody else has ever done that. We are Americans—rich or poor. We have always believed in the rugged individualism and self-actualization. We are not the people I think the people in Washington think we are. We are not fearful people. We are not people that give in or give up. We’re not about to give into some new whiney mentality where “Ooh, somebody help me”. That’s not who we are.
The only one that is too big to fail is you. And the only one that will, the only one that will create your failure is you. The only way the United States government, or the United States of America, or we fail as a collective is if we fail as individuals. And the only way guaranteed we as individuals will fail is to depend on the government to prop us up. That is just not who we are. And for me I am thankful for that.

No, really, it's a mormon thing. A lot of them have never gotten over that whole "drag my family across the continent with all our crap in a handcart" hangup. What's horrifying is that Beck thinks we were "lucky" on 9/11. Lucky to have an incompetent in the White House who refused to read "Bin Laden determined to attack the US"? 9/11 didn't have to happen if Bush-Cheney would have bothered to pay attention and to take some pre-emptive steps. But they didn't. I'm sure the families of the victims hardly consider themselves "lucky."
And Fox news and all the other media outlets. At least they didn't show commercials on 9/11, and I recall the Better Homes & Garden channel went off air. But in the long run 9/11 has been their ticket to incredible Fame & Fortune. Even when they demonize the relatives of the 9/11 victims, they make money.

...Beck needs to be reminded that in 2006, the Department of Homeland Security under the Bush administration -- the government department which he created for the supposed purpose of keeping America safe from terrorism -- decided to cut anti-terror funding to both DC and New York City (which as well as being targets on 9-11 both contain several of the nation's most readily recognizable icons) by 40 percent while at the same time increasing funds to such supposed high-level terrorist targets as Omaha and Louisville. Among the explanations which were given for this (including the one which tried to blame the state governments of DC and New York for allegedly failing to file their applications properly) was this egregious rationalization from Michael Chertoff which essentially insinuated that DC and New York City had no national icons or landmarks worth saving:
"National icons are generally monuments that don't have people living in them or working in them. If we have a choice between categorizing a building as an icon or as an office building with people who are actually at risk, the office building gets more
weighting in the risk calculation. And therefore it's more beneficial for a city like New York to treat it as an office building rather than as a national monument."
As many of the New York City papers reported at the time, it seemed as if Chertoff's statement could be summed up in two words -- DROP DEAD. In fact, some people -- particularly those who are inclined to believe that 9-11 may have been an inside job -- suspected that perhaps we were deliberately being left more vulnerable in order to leave the door open for another terrorist attack which could then be conveniently exploited for the administration's benefit.
This was, of course, only two years after the Republican Party had descended like a plague of locusts on New York City for the 2004 election convention and exploited 9-11 at every conceivable opportunity in their efforts to win Bush a second term.
I wonder...did Beck happen to voice any opinions about that at the time? For that matter, how exactly is Beck proposing that we as individual Americans protect ourselves from terrorism independent of the government???

Beck thinks that the best way to protect ourselves from terrorism is by being paranoid -- by suspecting that every shadow contains a hidden enemy who's just waiting to pop out and destroy us. Am I the only one who see something paradoxical (not to mention insanely ludicrous) in the notion of finding courage and strength through the deliberate cultivation of fear and anxiety?? I've said this before, but it bears repeating...if I as a resident of New York City lived in even half as much fear as these people seem to do, I'd probably be barricading myself in my apartment and have a gun trained on the door...
