More bad news for the Michele Bachmann campaign -- Kent Sorenson, Bachmann’s Iowa chair, defects to Paul :

Talk about fairweather friends. Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson (R), who was Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann’s state campaign chairman, endorsed Texas Rep. Ron Paul Wednesday night.

At a rally in Des Moines, Sorenson told the crowd, “We’re going to take Ron Paul all the way to the White House.”

He did not tell Bachmann of his decision until he was en route to the Paul rally, billed as an event for veterans.

“This is hard,” he said of his decision to leave Bachmann, explaining that he felt obligated to defend Paul against the Republican establishment. He elaborated in a statement, saying he felt Paul was the most conservative candidate who had a realistic shot at defeating former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

Sorenson added that Paul campaigned for him during his state Senate race last year.

“I thought it was my duty to come to his aid, just like he came to my aid during my Senate race, which was a very nasty race,” he said.

The state lawmaker attended a Bachmann event just four hours earlier and declined to speak to the crowd, citing dental work. He was one of her earliest supporters in the state.

Paul’s campaign touted the endorsement in a press release, saying that Sorenson’s resignation from Bachmann’s team was effective immediately.

Rachel Weiner has more at The Washington Post's blog with Sorenson's full statement to the press.

Uh, no, you're not. The Iowa caucus is just a vote to determine which candidate gets the Iowa delegates' support at the Republican Convention. It really is a meaningless administrative vote. I just don't understand why this is being treated as such a monumentally important event. But I'm always glad to see further proof of the GOP implosion. T'is sweet, it is.

This grossly overhyped event is a media manufactured spectacle that is barely worth the time to pay attention to. How typical of our irresponsible, self serving media stenographers to promote this event in such an overwrought and insipid way. We are talking about the GOP Presidential candidates-- a group of incompetent, self serving political slugs and bullies duking it out on their way to the bottom. Yet, the media continues to lionize these imbeciles as if they were saviors to America.

The truth is told by Der Spiegel:

These are THEIR guys! Guys THEY bought and paid for. Naturally they're going to trot them out like a bunch of show ponies. It doesn't matter to them really which one of them wins because they own ALL of them. It's all just program filler to them.

Historically the winner of the Iowa Caucuses does not go on to win the WH.

Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.

Bachman(klown)did her part in being the extreme right cheerleader. Republicans will eventually settle for Romney the moderate to defeat Obama in 2012.

So, what is the reaction from these Fre Market blockheads? In the case of Michel bachmann, it's "flip flop on your economic systems beliefs" time...

"Kent Sorenson personally told me he was offered a large sum of money to go to work for the Paul campaign," said Bachmann, "Kent campaigned with us earlier this afternoon and went immediately afterward to a Ron Paul event and announced he is changing teams. Kent said to me yesterday that `everyone sells out in Iowa, why shouldn't I,' then he told me he would stay with our campaign. The Ron Paul campaign has to answer for its actions."

..but you gotta watch out for people like that.

(If I were Ron Paul's people ...I would keep an eye on that guy)

give him a job for a week or two for a few clincher votes until the primaries are over then fire the traitor is my advice.

He probably wasn't paid by Bachmann and you know Paul has deeper pockets.

...he would go to Romney or Obama...(not Ron Paul)

I don't think he cares who "wins". I think he cares (perhaps rightly so in this case) "who pays me more". It's obvious which of the two candidates has more money. I believe Bachmann (yes!) when she says he bailed for more loot. That's the way republicans are.

Everyone that I saw was a guy in his 30's or 40's who look like they would be right at home at a white power, skin head, KKK rally. As with every Ron Paul crowd I've ever seen..

any other "pre-concieved notions about middle aged white people you want to share with us all?

What if I told you that everyone at a Obama rally looked like a communist who was on food stamps and welfare?

Every single one was a 20-something male yahoo who knows a LOT about cars and sports and NOTHING AT ALL about history, economics, or politics. Each of them spouted conspiracy theories (Amero, anyone?) in between vague pro-Paul rants. Is THIS his demographic then?

From beginning to end, the presidential election is the most expensive explosion of sheer bullshit and chicanery that the world has ever witnessed. A billion dollars, for what? Something that should be relegated to an epic miniseries on SNL. Who are these Narcissistic asshats anyway?? No substance, no structure, no balls, all smiles, kissing babies, and taking away your rights without hesitation.
Yes, Romney will get the vote ultimately, but everyone should know this by now that he takes small to large corporations and turns them into zombies, axing thousands of jobs along the way. Just what we need for a thriving economy, eh?
I kinda hope the Mayans were right, we need a HUGH change or the world goes down the sh*tter. What with the defrosting of the north (aka global weirding) we may still be toast. Got Jelly?
