David Shuster asks Rep. Anthony Weiner what he thinks about this latest talk of a deal being struck on a "trigger" being used if the insurance companies don't behave. As Rep. Weiner points out, the law would not go into effect until 2013 and then there's five year grace period, so there's already a ten year trigger in the existing bill.

He's right. It's already too late to be finally getting some reform passed and there is no reason to believe the insurance companies will do the right thing now because they always say "trust us" and then show they can't be trusted.

rahm and snowe are trying to preserve the advance agreement that was made by the white house with the insurers and big pharma. the repug players are pretending to "agree" on things as they were planned to be all along. That is, no change, possibly for many years because, just like Medicaid part b, they won't go back and fix it.

Some stuff you can't make up!

I noticed that yesterday in Mike's blog round up. It is very devious, but Rahmie is nothing but devious!!! I think Rahmie will win. What do you think???

last week.....A 'trigger' is just what the elderly need to feel safe...Not in this lifetime!

The House on Tuesday voted 242-181 to approve an operating rules package (H Res 5) that eliminates the Medicare trigger, which requires the president to submit a plan to contain Medicare costs if they reach a certain level, CQ Today reports. The trigger was approved as part of the 2003 Medicare law. Under the law, if 45% or more of the program's funding comes from general tax revenues for two consecutive years, the president must submit to Congress legislation that would slow spending over a seven-year period and make the program financially stable. The trigger went into effect for the first time last year.

Which means the Insurance Cos are home free, once again, thanks to Congress!

Yet another Corporate Cabal government welfare giveaway! With a guaranteed turn at the taxpayer teat for 10 years, no less. Considering that the for-profit Health Care Cabal is burning up 1-1/2 Million USD per DAY for lobbyists, plus their current Advertising Blitz, Plus the Hundreds of Millions of USD expended on campaign contributions to both political parties, we are talking about a MAJOR CRIME SCENE.

Okay, let's start talking about that old chestnut that's already been roasted a time or two recently -- PAY FOR PLAY. In what way can ALL of this NOT be considered BRIBERY, Conspiracy to Commit Bribery AND Fraud, and FRAUD on such a massive scale that it makes Bernie Madoff a piker ... ?

High crimes, AND treason (at a time of war, no less.) Hanging crimes, methinks.

Attorney General Eric Holder, do your duty -- investigate AND prosecute. All.Of.Them. NOW!

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
-- John F. Kennedy

You're so right about just how criminal, and insane, this all is! It is not metaphor to use the words 'criminals' and 'cabal.'
This is all surely planned, and a brilliant plan at that.

While we're all made to defend Obama against the insanity of the Glenn Becks and Sara Palins--and the very mainstream media that legitimizes them--Obama's realizing an almost entirely republican agenda with nary a protest from the left. Charming, literate Obama would never sell us out the way the republicans want to do, now would he?

............a shit anymore. It's just $$$$$$$$ all the time, and ZIONISTRAHMIE is always the traitor. He bought O-bought-ma his (P)residency with Insurance $$$$$, so get ready for more disappointment. Listen, if the BUSHCRIMEFAMILY can out a undercover, working, spy, in war time and not get punished at all, lie the USofBLOODYISRAEL into an illegal, immoral, unethical, war of agression for OIL, no less, use barbaric torture and assination, and get away with it, f**king the peóns over yet again, will be a certainty. DLC is not Democratic, they are PUKIELITE;

And that is JUST HARD MONEY,,,soft money can not be tracked!

I don't know what Weiner is like on other issues, but I sure do like the attitude he has about this bill. Turn him loose and let him go after the blue dogs, I think he could make them tuck tail pretty fast.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

he left joe scarborough speechless: not an easy thing to do

This morning joe made reference to something Weiner had said and after two weeks have gone by and Weiner is not on the show, Joe had an answer for him. That moment that day must have left a lasting scar on Joe's ego.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Samson-'s picture

"Joe had an answer for him", bwahaha, i'm sure he did.

and i'm sure his answer to weiner was comedy-gold

Funny thing was that when Joe started his answer or whatever it was, I was laughing out loud and missed it. But I'm sure Mika coo-ed and feigned an orgasim when he said it.

is she faking the orgasm? if so, she's good...

Of course she's good at it, she practices dozens of times every morning. It was funny that morning that she called Willy's show and told him all she was wearing was her "I love Pat Buchanan" t-shirt and nothing else.

maybe he will give obama a run for his money in 2012?

I'm not sure anyone could get through saying President Weiner without snickering.

OK. Weiner in comparison seems not a big deal...

He's not my representative, but I sent him an email telling him how much I appreciate him representing the American people on this issue and not letting the lies go unchallenged.

I also think the 2013 implementation date for the public option is crap. We need a public option now. Not after another 80,000-100,000 Americans are dead from lack of access to health care, not after millions more have had to file bankruptcy due to health care costs, and not after millions more have depleted every dime of their savings just to pay insurance premiums to the thieving insurance companies.

The premise that this is going to be reform is delusional.

Dear Members of Congress,

Don't vote for this so called "trigger option" just to save Obama's ass. Make him save his own ass by keeping his campaign promise of delivering REAL health care reform.

BTW David Shuster, this isn't the Olympia Snowe trigger. This is the exact bullshit plan that Rahm has been pushing in secret White House meetings since January. If I know this, why the hell don't you?

I really like you David, but report the news, not the White House talking points.

public option as part of his electoral platform?

calgarylady's picture

Big money and pharmaceuticals are holding a gun to your head and their finger is "on the trigger" and "up yours".

Sadly, Roy Rogers and John Wayne are both dead.

Not only is Roy gone but so is Trigger. The original trigger not the insurance trigger.

Yep

I loved ole Trigger!

I imagine he's looking pretty ragged by now. He must have had wheels put on his feet otherwise I don't think there would be so much talk about pulling him today.

I'll wager the trigger jams really, really easily.

Not in 2013, NOW. Not a trigger scam or a co-op scam, but Medicare for all Americans.

Anything less is betrayal.

We are not fooled, and We are not pleased.

Do these idiots in congress and the White House think they can't be replaced? Try Us. Betray Us. See what happens.

Who are you going to replace them with? It costs millions to run, even for a house seat. Can you compete with corporate money?

HR 676

all hail the hypno toad's picture

It's not that they don't know they can be replaced, it's that they know the pissed off people will stay home while the rest of the sheep vote the same, so a repub or a dem gets in depending on the cycle. In this instance, Obama knows that a repub will get in, so the dems will use that as a fear tactic on the pissed off libs to try and get enough of them to vote for them, if they don't respond it doesn't matter, he still gets his pension, health care, book deals, and fascist policies continue unabated. It's a win win for the fascists.

Boy, do I feel like an idiot. I really thought Obama gave a shit. He talks a good game but that is a far as it goes. What a disappointment.

Personally, I think in the end, Obama is going to go with the “Screw The Struggling 70 Million Americans Who Voted For Me” option that he’s been planning all along. But let’s say by some miracle, decent health care reform does pass in spite of Obama’s apparent sabotage of REAL health care reform, and even if he does get an additional few good pieces of legislation passed over the next several years, I’m getting quite bothered about who this guy really is as far as being someone I can trust. This is important to me after 8 years of the most corrupt administration in my lifetime. I’m talking about what Obama is revealing about himself by his own actions, and not by how he’s being defined by the corporate owned media and the nut jobs. A lot of people have been bending over backwards giving Obama the benefit of the doubt while I think they have been secretly scratching their heads about him too, but let’s be real here, this guy is really starting to smell. I think we've been had by a snake oil salesman.

You can say all politicians lie, but I’m not talking about the bullshit that all politicians spew. I’m talking about a deep seated, deceptive character flaw. He’s just not at all what he appeared to be. It’s almost like, after having a whirlwind courtship and marrying the woman of your dreams, you wake up with a hangover only to find that you’ve married Glen Close from Fatal Attraction, or that your beautiful new bride has a penis (humor not intended).

I think we might have made a big mistake electing this guy. Even with a best case scenario, the Democratic House and Senate coming together and fighting as a team and actually passing a good, robust public option in spite of the White House and their back room deals, in the end, we’re still going to be stuck with a very charming and gifted liar, and basically a fraud that can’t be trusted with anything, for our president for the next 3 years. This coming off of the disastrous and destructive 8 years of the Bush Administration, and I think I’m almost in a state of shock learning that our new President is another immoral, self-serving, untrustworthy liar.

Another thing, No Drama Obama was a fallacy. The truth is, backing Obama is a never ending ride on the emotional roller coaster. You never really know where you stand with this guy; you never really know if he’s got your back or not, or if he’s even on your side or not. Sure, he’ll give a pretty speech and reassure you he’s fighting for you, but then his actions leave you feeling let down and often betrayed.

It was like this all during the campaign, too. Is it his style? Is he a Political Chess Grand Master who’s always 15 moves ahead of mere mortals? I don’t think so. I don’t think he’s really politically extraordinary at all, other than the fact that he is a pretty great orator. I’m not really sure what to think; the guy just plain confuses and frustrates the hell out of me.

I’ve been anxious over this health care fight since it started. A lot of us don’t have the goddamn privilege of having health care. But I’ll tell you, most of my anxiety, at least from my point of view, is caused by watching what at least appears to be so far, my president play political games with my best chance of being able to have access to health care, and not die prematurely from a disease that could have been cured or prevented, if only His Majesty wasn’t more concerned with trying to ensure his own reelection. If this President, or any president, is willing to sacrifice even one human being for his own personal ambitions, that to me is unforgivably immoral.

Even if real health care reform does manage to pass on this President’s watch (in spite of Obama’s back room deals), I’m not so sure I’m willing to ride the emotional roller coaster that is the Obama Presidency for another seven years. I don’t mind the ups and downs of the fight, but I do mind the ups and downs of always wondering if my team Captain is playing for my team.

I wonder if Hillary will have had enough of being Secretary of State by 2012? I’ve always had my problems with her, too, but at least I know the woman loves a good fight, wholeheartedly believes in the Democratic causes, and isn’t afraid of anybody!

proudlyprogressive's picture

Hillary is bought, too. $$$$$$ sotted, whore.

details. The question remains, are the American people stupid or did BHO and his cronies take advantage of the disgust with Bush & Co. Or both?

We all know what is going to happen here. The insurance companies will continue as is and increase their premium rates and declines for coverage more and more the closer we get to the date when that law goes into effect. This is exactly what the main credit card issurers did just prior to the law limiting their punitive measures. They hiked the interst rates on existing balances and reduced the credit limits to borrowers. The private insurance companies will do the same thing.

are intertwined and invested in all these health rackets.

"Institutional Investors" and what have you. They all got their hands in each others pockets.

Say WHAT? This healthcare bill (no matter *what* it is) is not set to take effect for FIVE FRIKKIN' YEARS? Are you shi$$ing me?

I had no idea. Sweet jeebus, mother mary of god - we are so screwed.

Even if it does have a public option how could Obama or the Dems claim victory if it doesn't even begin for FIVE MORE YEARS? Let's suppose the Republicans take back power in 2012. Buh-bye healthcare reform.

This is just nuts. Someone PLEASE, tell me this is not true!

... they truly think they can dangle this issue as the proverbial carrot for the 2012 election.

Blue Lensman's picture

I can hear them now: "We've made a good start but we've still got lots of work to do. This is no time to switch horses.."

So I take the Dems are thinking that if the playbook ain't broken...

Blue Lensman's picture

Doomed to failure.

Tyler Durden's picture

... the Dems still have some humanity left, so they are not fully compatible with the reptilian machinations of the GOP political machine.

Not that Rahm and the rest of the DLC merry bunch ain't doing their damnedest to make the Dems fully GOP-compliant.

Abbybwood's picture

THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!!

(Since you said "PLEASE".)

But, sorry. I'm lyin' to ya.

What very few people seem to realize is that employment-based insurance isn't really insurance at all; it is in a real sense unenforceable due to ERISA. Those interested may want to refer to my Problem is ERISA blog for additional background.

If we want to keep insurance companies honest this definitely needs to be addressed.

Amitola's picture

that the Repugs and other government folks would consider this man's addiction (and other problems) as just a personal sort of "death panel"??!!

Thank you for reminding us that "INSURANCE" isn't what we think - as many folks in natural disaster-prone areas have learned. If your eyes
work, always read the fine print!

but the fact that insurance companies, under ERISA, can just breach their contracts with virtually no consequence. At the risk of crossing the line into blog pimping I will link to this post which contains an overview of the problem, and to this one which has at the end a link to the audio from the Nicole Sandler show on Air America where I participated in a dicussion of this problem.

What is this guy doing as a congressman-he should be the next
mayor after Bloomberg's third term. There is no one who can
better run this city than a non-career politician like Bloomberg
especially during these coming hard times. We need someone
with influence and Bloombergs got that. Weiner has everything
needed to beat the newly appointed from upstate, you know,
the one who hides guns under her bed. His name would not
go over upstate but appearing on TV will help.

I'd rather associate with the likes of Herman Goering and members of the SS than their filth. I refuse to dirty myself by shaking hands with anyone who works for a health insurance company.

Shame We do not have more real Americans leaders like Weiner , Kucinich , Dean and Sanders.
Kennedy was a very big lost for the American workers , seniors and the poor..
Seems as if there has been an attack on anyone with a Kennedy Name or associated with them in the past 40 years.
I wonder ever since the day John Kennedy and then his Brother were killed,, just how much involvement the FBI , CIA and this corporate empire play in those events..
The shots and smoke which were seen and heard from the grassy Knoll was censored and purged from history...
How can Part of Kennedy's brain and other evident simply disappear from history.

This was a lot worst then when Bush's administration lose 3 airplanes full of military equipment like 100,000 AK47's..

Every time their is a person or democrat leader attacks the criminal crimes and abuse by the establishment , they are attack by the news media , republicans and even now the democrats.

Kucinich was not only censored from his wins of campaign debate (plus his picture) the democrats tried to get him defeated in his bid for reelection and they did to Lamont against Lieberman in the 2006 election.

To censor Sibel Edmond's testimony
Sibel Edmonds' Deposition Disclosures: Congressional Bribery, Blackmail and Espionage

Obama's censorship of all material and protection of Bush and his administration's treason , torture , and other crimes against our country and the world..
