Rachel reports on the latest shoe to drop in the C-Street House, John Ensign scandal.
Maddow: We now have news that just eight days after the public announcement of his own affair, Sen. Ensign gave a $5000 contribution to one of his C-Street housemates, Congressman Zach Wamp. Ensign's political action committee made the contribution on June 24th. Congressman Wamp's campaign committee accepted the contribution five days later on June 29th. So far Congressman Wamp has not returned the money. Zach Wamp of course is a conservative family values Republican. He is campaigning for governor in Tennessee in part on his enthusiasm for the sanctity of marriage.
Oh these wonderful family values Republicans. As Rachel notes, there are still no answers as to whether Rep. Wamp and the others living at C-Street had anything to do with Sen. Ensign getting his parents to funnel hush money to his mistress and her family, and the C-Street scandal is starting to catch up to all of the people involved as their local press starts to ask more questions.
Too bad this pious putz didn't discover empathy until he became the victim of moral grand standing. Like Ted Haggard, these people are so full of their righteousness that when they error and see the wrong end of the fury and judgement they've helped bring to a boil they have no idea what to do.
Hopefully humanity will one day learn to be humane.

maybe not, but I just found out that the wonderful financial institution that I work for, one of the biggest, has discontinued offering college scholarships to employee children due to the bad economy and cost cutting.
This is what 30 years of GOP bullshit has wrought. No looking to the future (when they discuss budgets, cost cuts and concerns about long term deficits its a fucking joke!), no thought to actually giving back to society, no thought to the collective good. No, I'm not simply pissed because "my turn" had come, but because I've watched this slow dismantling of what was the greatest country and economy in the world all in the name of profits for the few.
And yet the American People cut these jerkoffs slack for their sexual affairs (despite their lecturing everyone on how WE should behave), allow them to confuse and befuddle and frighten them on issues such as the war, terror, healthcare, the environment...when all people really need to focus on is what is best for THEIR self interest...after all...that's all the elites are interested in.
This whole country is one big clusterfuck, and people either don't care or are too lazy to pay attention. That's why I make very few "serious" posts on this site anymore. With all due respect, C&L often can be just like any other blog, right or left, just one big circle jerk. Nothing changes.
