Ana Marie Cox on Fox's Treatment of Kevin Jennings: They’re Persecuting Someone Because He’s Gay
By Heather Monday Oct 12, 2009 7:00am
CNN's "media critic" Howard Kurtz brought on Air America's Ana Maria Cox and the Washington Examiner's Chris Stirewalt to discuss the statement by the White House Communications director Anita Dunn that "Fox News often operates as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party".
The topic turns to ACORN and Cox points out that the story Fox was pushing on ACORN was really not a story and notes that the problem was not voter fraud but in problems with some voter registrations and before Kurtz can change the subject says this about Fox’s attacks on Kevin Jennings.
Cox: And I’m sorry, I have to say something about this Jennings story because I think it’s really offensive. They’re persecuting someone because he’s gay.
Kurtz: We don’t have time to go through each controversy right now, but did Fox have the same appetite for stories that reflected poorly on the Bush administration?
Somehow Kurtz then found the time to talk about the reaction to President Obama being given the Nobel and later the David Letterman sex scandal.
Media Matters has much more on Fox’s attacks on Kevin Jennings.

It is a proven fact that republicanism is a mental illness!
if everyone just kept their sexual issues-choices-tastes-habits to themselves.
so thats not a realistic option.
how would we ever accomplish anything of substance and enduring value without constantly being distracted and titillated with humans sexual antics and urges.
Its just that heterosexuals, having our orientation validated as the "norm" by society are generally unaware of the dozens of ways each day they let people know they're heterosexual. Realistically its harder to speak and act in a way that DOESN'T give an indication to your sexual orientation.
Hugh Laurie to speak English without his native British "twang" to do House . . I suppose it's possible for everyone to ultimately act "normal"? Whatever normal is I suppose that could get pretty boring also.
Either you watch TV or read TV guide!
go live in a closet for the majority of your life, and then tell me how you feel about acting "normal" as you so quaintly put it.
Let me guess, you're "straight" and white. Oh Poor thing.
you can walk stroll through the park, hand in hand with your girlfriend and feel at peace with the world, and feel like a lucky man.
My nephew can do the same thing with his longterm boyfriend if he doesn't mind the catcalls and ignores the possibility of being beaten to death.
to end sexual prosecution in this world. Other then civilization suddenly vanishes one day.
in the issue, via my nephew.
So, whenever somebody voices homophobic rubbish in conversation with me, I call them on it.
They soon realize that it's no fun to spout homophobic/racist/sexist rubbish around me. If more people did that, it might be the beginning of a change.
Or, at least the haters might be compelled to keep their pathology to themselves.
tell your nephew not to tell or you will lock him in the basement with H. Ross Perot's crazy Aunt.
And he's too young to remember Parrot.
doesn't have a basement either. Most Texans don't.
He just made it up for political effect.
with the best looking girl who used to get sand kicked in his face. And worse a couple times.
So I understand.
You are completely clueless.
AW, poor little skinny white boy....
No you do NOT underwtand at all.
He will get to the self deprecating fisticuffs stuff straight away dwonthread.
I couldn't agree with you more but you have the ignorant, bigots, and hate mongers on the right will NOT allow this to happen. If ALL citizens are treated EQUAL (which they are NOT), you are right.
Remember the clowns on the right love being in YOUR bedroom however they want TOTAL plausible deny ability their creepy acts remember foley diaper boy vitter then there is sanford and don't forget ensign, tell me about values.
Notice nothing about these creeps however they are worried about who eats the Hole and who eats the Pole, and base legislation on some twisted sick self serving issue. If everyone is treated the same you are 100% right and I couldn't agree more.
Don't Ask, Don't Tell?
Ana Maria Cox, I love you, but that is an awful haircut.
Dunn said FOX is a propaganda arm of the GOP!
Balance! We need balance! Quick, dredge up some Republicans! Where's McCain? Graham? Palin? Anyone! We have to give air time to the opposing view!
*sigh*
Obama just gave another speech. Its all cool now.
"...since circumstances have placed me in the unfortunate position of prosecuting two wars at the present time, I cannot accept...."
can't find anything.
and here's a link to the first of it's three parts:

and by the way Evet, i don't think our goal should be for everybody to act "normal" (regarding your hugh laurie/house comment). the truth is we're all different. i happen to believe that it's our diversity that makes this country great. and for those who don't/won't celebrate those differences, i don't think the golden rule is an unreasonable aspiration.
That Kurtz thought Cox was there to provide some window dressing. He was totally not interested in her having an opinion of her own. There is a reason I don't watch CNN...
the rest of "the Press" is owned body and soul, too. They just throw a couple of 'non-partisan' nuggets into the brew, but are just as reliably 'corpoRat' spokesfolks as anything that Fox does...
But more then that the republican owner class. All the MSM is owner class and because of that more on the right leaning. Yes some of them throw out a nugget once in a while but most of the time it is the corporate line. Everything in the corporate media is designed to meet the needs of the corporate owners. Why do you think they advertise those big drill platforms on the sunday shows? Do you think there are lots of people wanting to buy one and just don't know who to contact?
It's all about the line the thing that the owners think the most important to there bottom line.
The ProfitMedia seemed to "wake up' during the last six months of the Bush Junta and levelled some mild criticism against Butcher Bush.
By then, of course, it mattered little; they were attempting to salvage a little "credibility."
"Just as the early hominid was modified by environment, diet, terrain, existing shelter, so we have been modified by consumer product lines."
Then there is the worst kind of rogue imaginable by the state, the rogue non-consumer.
You mean like?

ANYONE who's not a jock . . football player in particular is subject to prosecution, torture, and beatings.
Fortunately I was a fast runner.
Strange, when I crashed my ten year reunion (I was expelled) all of the jocks were paunchy slobs and the cheerleaders had all gained fifty pounds and had moustaches.
comes into the picture isn't it? But Like yourself I also became fast, agile, and able to out sprint the thugs. But the bastards would try other tactics like sneak attacks or ambush.
For me it started in Junior High School. When you grow up in Texas, don't follow sports and like to read you're a ******. But then in a turn of events no body expected, least of all me, I turned out to be stronger than expected. When I finally fought back on the school bus I picked up this one kid and threw him across the aisle from me. His buddy said, "He can't do that to me," rushed me, so I picked him up off his feet and threw him down the bus aisle where he fell into the rear seat.
They also hated my punching style which was to hold my fist with the fingers up, and turn my fist downwards as I swung, and aimed with my middle two knuckles. And because I was a Boy Scout I knew where the blood pressure points were, and presumed there were lots of nerves there, and would either punch or chop with the side of my hand on these points. I gave my attackers headaches that lasted the rest of the day, or disabled their arms for at least an hour.
who would step in and teach a thug a serious lesson when they started trying to pummel a guy half the size of himself. It was great watching those lunks-junior gorillas hobble off with that "I'm gonna get you for that buddy" look on their face. Which never happened of course.
I had to start shaving my mustache at 11, and my beard at 13. My chest and shoulders suddenly jumped out. I remember getting in a fight with another guy in a class who was also pretty large. I think we were able to counter each others move because I don't remember either of us getting hurt.
I heard someone say it looked like two gorillas fighting.
I guess I always had the impression I was more delicate since I'm pale, around 8th grade in class we were all tested and the results said I was already reading at college level, and my father routinely made fun of my face for being too effeminate.
Shaving is a freaking hassle . . back then it was the right of passage remember that . . ?
Teen male competition . . man I'm glad that's long gone and a faded distant memory.
And running from the gym to the field in white gym shorts and t-shirts for playing flag football when you already have hairy legs?
I'd like to have your strength today and go to the publicannot convention. I'd have some fun. :O)
for the Ana Marie Cox articles. But I like it better when she is talking dirty on Rachel.
Didn't Cox work for Time magazine or maybe she still does?
Chair of Journalistic Excellence Time expected of her when hiring her direct from Wonkette. As a result Time expelled her like Mao expelled Madame Chiang from China. She is in exile on Cable TV now. And Playboy.
I remember it was such a big deal when Time hired her and she was movin' on up. Is she really writing for Playboy now? If so, I don't know which way she's moving these days.
the women in Playboy could move in opposite directions at the same time. Wearing tassels!
Wow! And all this happened when you opened the centerfold?
Really? I think the intellect of Rachel's show drops dramatically when she is on. That's usually when I take a break. I don't care for her at all although Rachel is awesome.
proved that reading Playboy makes you gay?
Come to think of it I don't think I ever chipped a tooth or left a black eye, because once I've disabled them I left, and didn't try for a sustained beating, and I avoided the face, no blood pressure points and too bony which was more likelier to hurt my fist..
I got my first motorcycle. When I turned 17 I joined my first motorcycle club, and all of a sudden the thug jocks left me alone. I found out at a early age, they is safety in numbers.
This is no controversy about FOX being a media arm of the GOP. Roger Ailes, president of FOX, is affectionately known as/referred to as "our man Ailes" by many, many GOP figureheads, especially in the Bush family.
If this is going to be a real dialogue on teevee news shows, then we should get to watch a discussion between those of us who see with great clarity what is going on with FOX, and those who refer to FOX' president and main guy as "our man Ailes." Instead, we get people who are slightly willing to admit that there's a bias.
this morning where they were sort of discussing this. Everyone pretty much came to poor Fux's rescue. Pathetic.
In law enforcement circles, protection of "your own" is protected by the "thin blue line." Not sure what they call it in the broadcasting industry.
Anorexic blonde line.
I love the look on Ana Marie Cox's face when someone mentions that she writes for Playboy: cute, naughty and oh so SEXY!
especially when engaging the right wing with tawdry gay double entendre.
You know, Ana, no one has to listen to what Fox says. No one has to watch. No one has to care. But people do watch and listen. It is they who are the problem, not Fox. And now from what I hear, The New York Times is part of the problem. They have been cowed by Fox into covering Internet rumors as fact, the way cable news does. The problem isn't Fox, the problem is fear on the left and their willingness to be influenced by the right.
