Alex Castellanos: Mitt Romney Should Brag About Shutting Down Steel Mills
While discussing how the Mitt Romney campaign is going to respond to Newt Gingrich winning the South Carolina Republican primary race and how it was he managed to win there, we got this bit of infinite wisdom shared with us by one of CNN's panelists, Republican “strategist” Alex Castellanos on how Mittens can play the “tough guy” just like Gingrich did during the debates leading into this third primary race.
CASTELLANOS: There's more to it than that you know. We don't know what a president will be faced with. You want somebody in that chair who can handle big things. Newt Gingrich got attacked. He demonstrated tremendous strength. Mitt Romney, next time somebody accuses him of closing down a steel mill should say “Yeah, I'm that guy and you know what? I'd do it again. I'd hate to do it... I'd hate to do it, it would hurt, but somebody needs to go to Washington and I think I can replace most of these buildings in here with like three good web sites.”
We've got to change this country dramatically . He's that kind of guy. He does transformational things.
I don't know about anyone else but the kind of “transformation” that Castellanos is talking about here is not exactly the kind most Americans think is good for our country. If shutting down steel mills, outsourcing jobs to China, raiding pension funds, slashing wages, busting unions and lining your pocket while doing it is something he thinks Romney ought to be bragging about, I just wonder what anyone is smoking that would ever hire this guy.
If he really believes it's good advice that Romney should be playing the tough guy when it comes to shutting down industries in America and putting people out of work during his time at Bain Capital, someone's overpaying him to manage their political campaign if he can actually find work other than being an overpaid right-wing hack at CNN (or sadly a guest on Meet the Gregory a.k.a. Karl Rove's dance partner as well) these days.

Newt should say he would do it again tomorrow if he's asked about having an affair with an intern while going after Clinton for having an affair with an intern. I'd like to see if that smile would crack on his Stepford Hairbot 2000.
As Gingrich is showing, hubris and arrogance are the way to go in today's Republican party.
How else do you explain the success of a guy who's been married three times, but willing to sign a 'defense of traditional marriage" pledge?
Who championed the impeachment of a President over the details of an extra marital affair, but believes his own affairs are off limits to public scrutiny?
Who was forced to resign in failure and disgrace over his ethical lapses and unwillingness or inability to work with others, but promises to "reform" Washington and brags that he's a consensus builder?
Who manipulated the media to force the resignation of a Speaker of the House and taught his adherents how to speak in coded language that cast his political opponents as traitors and criminals, yet now complains that the media is too focused on the sensational and the negative?
If Romney wants to win, he's going to need to get rid of whatever little shame he possesses and climb down into the gutter with Gingrich. If he doesn't, he'll be gritting his teeth when he endorses Gingrich at this summer's Republican convention.

I think Romney should brag about those things. I think every Rethug should stop playing semantic games and just brag about the ugly, bullying, America-hating policies they believe in. I think they should brag about how they've ruined the lives of so many people, because then they'd lose big time. And that would be all to the good.

By making this statement Castellanos implicitly admits that the Internet has been a job creator.
A point we can all agree on.
But who did the research and development that built the Internet?
DARPA - THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT - with US taxpayers' money.
Now tell me one more time, "The government can't create jobs, only the private sector creates jobs."
It's time to kill that neo-liberal talking point.
"The Government" didn't just create the WPA in the 30s.
"The Government" also built the Interstate AND the Internet, both of which have been job creators.
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
don't have to pay taxes might not be a good thing. But the people that want to hang negroes think its a pretty good idea since Washington DC keeps interfering with their favorite pasttime.
It's the whole turn your weakness into your strength thing but its not working so well anymore. Too many people have lived through this make up a bunch of talking point bullshit that is going to sell anywhere past the base.
Remember how Paul Ryan's plan to trash medicare and social security went over. Horrible. Yet there are still Republicans saying just present it again. I say broadcast it 24/7. Live it, own it, lose with it. Be ignorant, be proud. Castellanos is a fool. A loser.
NAFTA Newt has never taken an oath he has not broken
Nuff Said.
For some reason i don't think that closing a viable steel plant and laying off however many workers just so Romney and his friends can make more millions of $$$$ on top of all the other millions of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that they have already made just for the sake of making more millions would go over very big with middle America. Somebody running for president should be able to show they are doing things that HELP America not HURT it. Laying people off and destroying a viable business for the sake of making millions is not good for America.
Saying, "It's none of your fucking business" when somebody asks ab out a past marriage is completely different from saying, "Yeah, I bankrupted an extremely viable business and fired 1200 people so that I could make $10,000,000 and i would do it again." But go ahead Romney, try it. Let's see what happens.
Let's take it to its logical limits: shut down Congress and fire all the politicians, and replace THEM with three good websites. Save millions of dollars and might actually get something constructive done, for a change.
I am really surprised that when he was G W Bush's media guru he didn't advise Bush to go out and brag about booze and cocaine or all his business failures. Better yet, he should have had him brag about how smart he was to sneak out on his military commitment to the National Guard. All this guy does is remind me of why the Repugs are where they are today. Jeesh
The good life is a day at the beach.
SAY EXACTLY that!!!!!!! Just as loud as he can...every damn day! Can't stand these CRETINS!!!!!!!
The republican's have been winning with lies and bullshit for 30 years; repeatedly duping the dim bulbs and low information types.
They now have so much arrogance and hubris, that they think they should fly with the truth, which of course would be the complete destruction of their party forever.
The idiot base they have, would never be able to bail them out of that ditch.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
