Utah GOP Passes Bill to Ban Sex Education
A bill passed by Republicans in the Utah House of Representatives would effectively ban comprehensive education about human sexuality, forcing schools to teach abstinence or nothing at all.
In all, 45 Republicans voted for state Rep. Bill Wright's (R) HB363, with 11 Republicans joining the 17 Democrats who opposed it, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
The bill forbids advocating for "the use of contraceptive methods or devices," sex outside marriage or homosexuality. It also restricts teaching about sexual intercourse or erotic behavior.
Public and charter schools would have the option of developing an abstinence-only curriculum or skipping the discussion of sexuality altogether.
"We’ve been culturally watered down to think we have to teach about sex, about having sex and how to get away with it, which is intellectually dishonest," Wright said in defense of the bill. "Why don’t we just be honest with them upfront that sex outside marriage is devastating?"
One opponent, state Rep. Carol Spackman Moss (D), called the measure "immoral."
"You cannot speak of abstinence without talking to students about methods of birth control that are not certain, about protecting oneself from [sexually transmitted diseases] and all the things that can happen in a negative sense to a young person who engages in sex," she explained. "It’s really immoral not to teach kids about what the consequences are."
The bill now moves forward for consideration by the Utah Senate.

As someone who lives in UT, I can tell you, this aint the only crazy shit coming out of our current legislative session.
The Utah GOP'ers also have a plan to make the federal government either give them all federal lands-- you know, the land that belongs to ALL Americans--or sell it off and split the proceeds with the state!! Just to show how seriously bat shit crazy they are they are promising to spend up to 3 million dollars on the inevitable (losing) court battle with the feds.

this comes as no surprise at all. The Mormon Church preaches a male dominated society and a male dominated household. Women are second class citizens subserviant to their husbands and are little more than baby factories and domestic help in a majority of situations. They have always been sex educartion adverse and this has resulted in a high state teen and unwed mother pregnancy rates and VERY early age marriages. They also have a lot of marriages among couples without higher education. This is truly a group think state with the Church doing the thinking for it's members. Individual and critical thinking is traitorous. The legislator is simply an arm of the Church. Utah is the reddest state in the nation. What would expect?
The funny thing is that in the good old-fashioned, red-blooded America of the Tea Party/Ron Paul/Rick Santorum fantasy, the vast majority of kids grew up on farms - where they saw horses, cattle, sheep and other livestock mating all the time. American kids in the 18th & 19th centuries may not have had sex ed classes, but they definitely had a good working knowledge of sex.
Families on the frontier often lived in single-room houses. These people often had big families. It wasn't immaculate conception. Sex wasn't hidden away, it was part of life.
What do they think - that Colonial Americans were chaste? That the Founders didn't have sex outside marriage? Benjamin Franklin wrote enthusiastically of his lusty adventures. Thomas Jefferson made merry with his slave, Sally Hemmings, and produced a litter of Jefferson-Hemmings mulattos. Are these folks hoping to get girls (sorry, make that kids; don't want to leavde boys out of this) to ignore sexual components of their interactions to make them easier to manipulate? I have known people who would have no compunction at all about that.

It would, however,seem of greatest importance, in a state where there is near 100% knowledge of how to get STD"s and pregnant, that safe sex education might make a lot of sense.
Not only do they not have to talk about icky boy/girl parts and their interaction with each other..now if the girl gets pregnant,they can insist she bear the child,and then abandon her financially after it's born,and label her a whore.

Perhaps if some teens grow into adulthood without understanding their own and other's sexuality they might feel "devastated" in a sexual situation due to the sexual ignorance and poor education enforced by their parents, chuches, and government.
