Specter says telecom immunity is 'festering wound'
By David Wednesday Nov 19, 2008 2:30pm
MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell asked Sen. Arlen Specter about Barack Obama's choice of Eric Holder as Attorney General. Specter said that he wouldn't hold up Holder's nomination due to his involvement in the pardon of Marc Rich.
"I would be prepared to move ahead very promptly with hearings, move into the substance of the matter, ask the important questions, look for any documents that might be relevant and as fast as we can move through, I am prepared to decided it one way or the other," said Specter.
Specter believes that the Department of Justice needs to be "reprofessionalized" after the tenure of Alberto Gonzales.
Specter said, "This business of wiretapping is not in order in accordance with Constitutional rights and where you have the immunity granted to the telephone companies, that is still a festering wound and some speculation as to whether that will be asserted by a new administration."

If you ask me things are festering all over the fucking place in Washington. The "Patriot" Act. The Department of "Homeland Security", The "War on Terror". Fire all the Czars and abolish every new agency the Bush administration created is a good start!
But, that would mean Obama stood for real CHANGE instead of just using it as a slogan.

He was involved in the representation and escape of wealthy murderer Ira Einhorn. Shithead Scooter Libby was Rich's atty from 1985 to 2000, I believe. Rich, Libby, Cheney, all those aholes are about is new ways to get money and get money by any means possible.
Marc Rich pardon outrage is fake. It's not like he murdered his girlfriend in a fit of pique, then stashed her body in a trunk and pissed off to Europe for 30 years living in relative comfort, while his victim's family waited for some kind of justice, ya hypocritical asshole.
the 'magic bullet'
Specter's cv is just packed with gems, isn't it.
ahh,so i remembered correctly
Spector theorised (after the J.F.K. assasination) that a single bullet could make multiple "clean-shot" wounds giving the proper conditions.I mean, this should be a red-light for anyone who wants to be a senator. What were his voters thinking???
Oh now this stinking SOB is going to be looking very close, GO FUCK YOURSELF.
Admit his wrongdoing on his deathbed.
Admit he helped cover up the truth of the JFK assassination.
This guy is a rat. He has done a lot to screw America.
> Admit he helped cover up the truth of the JFK assassination.
I know it's hard to accept, but the 'Magic Bullet' theory is the only explanation that actually conforms to the facts.

The better our evidence examination has become, the clearer it is that the fatal shot to Kennedy came from the Book Depository.
No wound suffered by Kennedy or Connelly can be reasonably tracked to the grassy knoll.
You support the Warren Commission report.
You are a jerk.
> You support the Warren Commission report.
> You are a jerk.
Always love to get a reasoned response from someone obviously dedicated to the truth.
No room for discussion on this matter? I have no horse in this race. I'm just as prepared to believe that it was a conspiracy or Oswald alone. Like everyone else, I grew up assuming that there was a conspiracy in the Kennedy assassination.
I'm basing my conclusion not on the woefully inadequate Warren Report, but on the examination of the evidence that has occurred over the past decades. The more we look into this, the more information we get, the more the Oswald theory becomes the least improbable.
The more I studied the actual, specific conspiracy theories, the more it became obvious that the most likely trajectory for the shot was from the 6th floor depository.
Magic bullet zigging around? Sadly, no, as Connelly was significantly down and to the left of where the "ridiculous" bullet theory puts him.
But I can't help but notice that the conspiracy theories seem to willfully distort facts to make the Oswald theory seem absurd.
Why keep insisting that the bullet zigged and zagged when reconstructions of the actual scene show again and again that the trajectory would be straight?
Why keep insisting that "back and to the left" signifies a hit from front right when demonstration after demonstration shows that a head will lurch back TOWARD a shot from a high-powered rifle?

The Oswald theory is consistent with the laws of physics. No other theory has ever been presented that has fewer holes than the Oswald theory.
Yeh, Spector was against telecom immunity. That's why he voted for it.
The man should be in a home, sipping Ensure.
He did originally come out against it if I remember correctly, but you are 100% correct - he voted for the immunity.
Hopefully the people of PA will see right through this guy and vote for whomever is running against him. I know I will.
run again. But, Ricky "man-on-dog" Santorum is just waiting in the wings to get back into the Senate - Yew Betcha!!
Now that a Dem will be the president this douchebag is concerned with the constitution. Fuck you Specter, you are a festering wound on America's cock.
PTD?
(politically transmitted disease)
him clammoring for Constitutional Rights during the last godawful 8 years. So,now? he is worried? Ha.
a lying crybaby.
and 100% boosh supporter.
like a jock strap for the preznitwit.
By his vote isn't he the virus that caused the wound that now festers.
As my assigned senator, he never answers my inquiries as to weather he supports a nuclear free Middle East.
Single bullet
Iran investigation
Character assassination Professor Anita Hill in service to clarence who with tony overthrew the election of 2000.
Seems arlin always votes against my positions.
Don't be too hard on Arlen Specter; he was often good for a sound bite on how Bush had gone too far in shredding the Constitution (though he'd then usually turn around and vote for the offending person/bill anyway). Actually, that doesn't sound too far different from many congressional dems over the last eight years.
This site went (rightly) apeshit when Obama flipped on the FISA/Telecom Immunity deal. Specter, of course, voted for it then but he's oh so concerned about it now?
I cannot trust a word from this man. So many times he has sounded like he was on the side of right and when it came down to it, he always voted on the side of wrong.
what's up now, mr. senator accomplice? so many cover-ups, defections and theatrical cave-ins.
he'll probably vote the opposite of anything he says now anyway. too bad he doesn't: just. go. away.
specter has that rare quality that most democrat and republicans share that is being able to speak through thier anus orfice and be convinceing if you hold your ear close enough to listen! porkchop hill
you're a rascally old bastard.
Happy Thanksgiving.
thnx good buddy been holding my own , like yourself ! keep em flying and happy turkey day to yourself!
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he fights to block Holder. That would be just his style judging from the way he has acted in the past.
if you vote Dem, everything here will be well.
Wiretapping is just great when Republicans are in charge - "a festering wound" when Democrats are in charge. It all depends whose wires are being tapped I guess.
Spectre knows whatof he speaks, re "festering wounds."
"This business of wiretapping is not in order in accordance with Constitutional rights and where you have the immunity granted to the telephone companies, that is still a festering wound and some speculation as to whether that will be asserted by a new administration."
If you go to http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?.... It is Operation Vote Smart's web sight. This is the address for Senator Specter. It show that the Senator from Pennsylvania talks a good game but he doesn't vote it. Sen Specter voted against striking immunity from the FISA Bill, "07/09/2008 Striking Telecom Immunity from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Bill S Amdt 5064 N Amendment Rejected - Senate(32 - 66)" This is just one example of saying one thing and doing the exact opposite.
You know what the difference between Specter and roadkill is?
You can see the guts of roadkill.
He was not concerned when the gop did it.
Why is he bringing this back up?
Specter's office was the one that snooped through their Democratic opposition's servers and emails. I think we can assume that Arlen's concern is not born of respect for the law or fair play.
Seems a lot more likely that he's concerned the GOP will be on the receiving end of their fascist machine, and he's scared.
I believe that Specter might be concerned at some of the rumors flying around about potential whistleblowers concerning illegal wiretapping. One of these rumors is that several individuals have quietly told the press and some lawmakers that it is impossible for them to speak openly now, but whisper, " Come and talk to me on Jan. 20th". Oh..how I hope that it is true.
And he's right about that.

All I know is, if Spector really cared about justice, he would have put Gonzales under oath instead of prolonging the nadir of recent American history.
You do not have to be under oath to be in trouble for lying to Congress.
"United States Code
TITLE 18 - CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
PART I - CRIMES
CHAPTER 47 - FRAUD AND FALSE STATEMENTS
Section 1001. Statements Or Entries Generally
covers that problem. It states that lying to a committee or sub-committe of congress may crry a sentence of no more than five years in prison with a fine. It does not require the person to be under oath. It makes no mention of oaths.
It's been a while since Albert testified.
Are there any "smoking gun" lies, or was it all, "blah blah don't recall blah blah"?
on Tush Limpbough's fat ass.
"I would be prepared to move ahead very promptly with hearings,,,"
Dude you are in the minority you have no fucking choice..
right on schedule Ol' Rollin' Arlen has rediscovered the Constitution. Maybe when he sits on all those hearings on the Obama Administration he'll learn something about how the Constitution is supposed to work instead of the way he betrayed his oath of office the last 8 years.
...and Arlen is, unfortunately, one of my Senators. I email him on a regular basis - and I include the Senate oath of office at the end of every one and asked him if he ever read it or ever intends to abide by it. Somehow, in the "form letter" repsones I always get, he never seems to address that issue.
WERE THIS ONLY SO!what does it say about a man who sells out any integrity he has just to become a president,? obama went against ned lamont and went and politiced for joe liberman, and im supposed to be happy he sold out the american people for scum like liberdouch , then he says he will go against the fisa bill then happily votes for it ,then he votes for the patriot act , and repeal of habias corpeus, and every other bill that bush wanted in his effort to take away our civil rights and destroy the constitution, and to top that off he declares that afganistans a good war, and he will expand it with troops from iraq, what is it you dont get ? hes more of the same with a bit of sugar on the top!
Nice to hear that few here are falling for anything said by that clown. He's not the only one that voted for Telecom Immunity. Look at this dirty dozen:
The twelve Democrats that crossed the aisle to vote to table the Democratic proposal were:
Bayh (D-IN)
Carper (D-DE)
Inouye (D-HI)
Johnson (D-SD)
Landrieu (D-LA)
McCaskill (D-MO)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Rockefeller (D-WV)
Salazar (D-CO)
[Deleted. Poor attempt at flamebaiting]
and even this blog is burying it.
THIS ARTICLE SHOULD LEAD FOR A MONTH!!
[As more stories are added, previous stories slide down the line. It's a manifestation of physics. But as I read your comment, I realize you wouldn't get it-Sitemonitor]
so the comment that he is a republican and no democrats have said a word is flamebaiting as oppposed to the truth?
the comment regarding leading for a month is about the importance of the issue
i realize that there is a need to keep adding articles. after all
a site dedicated to t.v sound bites probably have people working for it who suffer from attention deficit disorders.
see two can play the snark game and your censorship is undemocratic.
but something tells me the people who run this site care little about democracy
Its funny to hear the guy who made the "Magic Bullet Theory" (single bullet could make several wounds in 1 shot in proper conditions) and talk reason... lol,i hope i didnt mistake him for someone else. But i think it was him when he was still a junior councill.
His name is kinda bogus though, SPECTOR ... SPECTRE... James Bond ;)
