Many Republican politicians have railed against the stimulus while praising or taking credit for stimulus money provided to their districts. One prominent Republican governor is calling out his colleagues' hypocrisy.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was proud to accept stimulus dollars for his state praised the program for creating or saving over 150,000 jobs. "I have been the first governor of the Republican governors to come out and to support the stimulus money because I say to myself, this is terrific," Schwarzenegger told ABC's Terry Moran Sunday.

In contrast to many Republicans, the California governor believes the stimulus has created public and private sector jobs. "Anyone that says that it hasn't created the jobs, they should talk to the 150,000 people that have been getting jobs in California," he said.

Schwarzenegger lashed out at those GOP politicians who voted against the bill then took credit for benefits provided to their states. "Well, you know, to me I find it interesting that you have a lot of the Republicans running around and pushing back on the stimulus money and saying this doesn't create any new jobs, and then they go out and they do the photo ops and they are posing with the big check and they say, 'Isn't this great?'" said Schwarzenegger.

You'd better worry!
AAAAHHHnold, "The Terminator," may be coming back as a Democrat.
God forbid. Though he'd have been better as a "D" than an "R." But, as f%&$ed-up as that state has become, it's better he was an "R." Of course, out there, "R" stands for "REAGAN," who could do NO WRONG!!!!!!!!
If I lived there, I'd vote for Jerry Brown. I'm old enough, and I'd love to see if Linda Rondstat would sing at his inauguration.
Ah, good times... Before the Republican "Defecation on America" tour started.

Don't blame Schwarznegger for the problems out here. They were festering years before he ever ran for office. It really doesn't matter who is in the Governor's chair, because with the one-two punch of our asinine proposition system and that fucking Prop 13 nonsense, it's practically impossible to get anything done that doesn't benefit the very rich. Arnold could be a raving left-wing radical and our state would still be irreparably fucked up. In order to fix things, we have to tear down the whole system in CA, and that ain't gonna happen any time soon.

That left the state in the black.
I want him as governor again as well. It's amazing that some people either forget that or just ignore it.

Yes, Prop 13 is a big player in whats wrong with Calif.
But, the real problem is the republicans and their obstinance to pass any meaning full legislation. The vote. They need to get back to a simple majority to pass legislation. The GOp will not go for it. They like the strangle hold they have on Calif. It really has very little to do with Ahnuld. No, Ahnuld is no saint. And he's far from being a liberal or progressive. But when it comes to Calif, no one can run Calif. All you can do is hang on. Which once was the 6th largest economy in the world. Is now in the toilet. Thanks to the GOp.
Now, for those who say they wont vote for Obama or any Dems again.
Just wait. You may get your wish. The GOp just might gain more seats. And with that, they'll gain more power. Then, we'll see.
For those who may opt to pass on voting in the next election. I hope you really think it through. The ramifications of your decision will have a long lasting effect.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

The gropenator needs to decide if he is a rethug or is he going to work for the people of his state. It is clear that one cannot serve the public interest and remain a Greedy Old Pervert.

is the stupid "super majority" thing that makes it so NOTHING can get done.
I certainly didn't vote for this guy, and I was against the Davis recall from day one, but to give him a little credit, he's not the big problem in California.. Not by a long shot.

I'm not a big Arnie supporter, but I've seen worse. And he's not the biggest problem we have here at all.

That idea scares the piss out of me. Both of those idiots will do more damage than Arnold could ever have had a chance at. Neither of them has a clue and care only about their corporate interests.

Was totally against the Recall... A little infantile fantasy for Issa ...

But, Arnold has been a surprisingly good and consistent governor. He really put himself in a strange spot cavorting with the unpatriotic and greedy Republican lot.

He is definately wrong on SOME issues. But, I think more Republicans hate him than Dems. The Kennedy clan must have rubbed off on him...

I would like him to pull a "Spector", become a Democrat ... and run against Feinstein! Diane HAS to go!

Screw the hypocrite Schwarzenegger ! It’s his DISASTROUS CONSERVATIVE AGENDA witch is destroying Californians jobs at an enormous rate. (Schwarzenegger time and time again vetoed a fair and compromising budget which would have saved thousands of jobs)
And then to make himself look good he PRETENDS to praise the stimulus money..
Beware, Schwarzenegger is evil!

Of course Arnold took the money - he bankrupted the state so he desperately needs it. Meanwhile, he's "balancing the budget" but cutting programs for the very people the stimulus is meant to help get through this recession and thus stimulate the economy.

Make no mistake, a lot of the blame rests on CA's ridiculous requirement for 2/3 legislative approval for tax increases, but Schwarzeneggar is the biggest hypocrite for accepting the money and then cutting needed programs.

Thoughts...'s picture

Californians are essentially a bunch of whiny hypocrites.

The problem is the STUPID Proposition system coupled with spoiled little "boo-hoo me" and stupid electorate that cannot see what a tax cut means ("eat your cake")...and unfunded mandates ("Have it too").

California MUST eliminate or revise Prop 13. I cannot believe how stupid California's are!! (Wait I already said that!)

A simple 50% increase to the base to 1.5%, and a maximum of 3% annual (currently negative with a max of 2%).. plus something more fair to investor-owner real estate - both residential and commercial (maybe 2.5%) would totally fix the state's problems. More importantly bring Cities and Counties solvent.

Plus, because Property Taxes are deductive on the Federal Tax side .. means - More money returning to the State.

Haven't run the numbers, but I bet they could even pass a small income tax cut to offset some of the increase (to say.. a renter).

Actually .. since I have a job because of Prop 13 trying to figur ut how to fund major infrastructure (God! I love special taxes !! ).

Never mind... it is good for me. Viva la Prop 13.

Californians are essentially a bunch of whiny hypocrites.

Because crazy laws don't exist anywhere else in this country, and all the other states run like well-oiled machines.

nom de plume's picture

that's why i wrote about it in my post. But the fact is, it exists. What are you doing to get rid of it? I'm personally working on ways to reform the state (such as clean elections and REAL health care reform).

You are just complaining and seeming to profit off of legislative travesties, not unlike war profiteers.

This article is about how Schwarzeneggar is somehow a "better" Republican because he called out his fellow Repub governors on accepting stimulus money they bashed. But if Arnold was serious about helping the state, he wouldn't ONLY cut spending on important programs that benefit the most needy in the state and would use some political muscle to get a 2/3 vote approving targeted tax increases.

Schwarznegger is nowhere as poisonous as the Cheney crew, and the problems in California started nearly fourty years ago. What, you think we were in rosy heaven under Gray Davis?? This state has been spiralling downward ever since Prop 13 passed in the 70's. Every governor has tried to fix things and failed.

You're just pissed because he's a Republican. I don't much like his fiscal views either, but he's a hell of a lot better than the vast majority of the Repubs, most of whom have lost their fucking minds.

arnold's hypocrisy is a bit different. he's tried to demolish the state government so he can directly institute corporate control of California. he is bleeding the poor and middle-class. he exacerbates the suffering of the disadvantaged. then he gets on the tubes and verbally distances himself from the party whose platform he is a leading example of. If you want to see the republican endgame. have a look at california. arnold is as two faced as it gets, a perfect example of a modern repuglyK.K-Kan.

I have lived in CA for ten years (I am sorry to say). Arnold is not a republican, he is a liberal master of hipocracy. He has no clue about how to run a city much less a state. He has increased spending in his administration by 20%....money the state did not have. He doesn't want to stop welfare payments to the illegal aliens that may vote for him. He is toast. He will lose in a landslide!!! GTFO Arnold...go back to Austria or wherever the f--- you came from.

You didn't like the Democrat, mounted a recall and voted for a movie star w/ an 'R' after his name.

Thoughts...'s picture

I guess you will be voting for another empty-promise "business type". When Whitman wins ... I predict the Repubs will go from "I love Meg" to "That f-in' Bitch" in less than 12 months...

Maybe less when they realize that the state is ungovernable with the nimrods in the State Congress ... Actually, the (D) are simply powerless, and the (R) are scum-sucking, selfish, hypocritical, rapacious, unpatriotic, asshats, who claim to be Christian - just like Baby Jesus!

California is screwed.
