Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry on Thursday did his best to pander to evangelical voters in Iowa with several references to Tim Tebow, an NFL quarterback for the Denver Broncos who is credits God for his recent streak of wins.

"I'm kind of getting where I like these debates," Perry declared. "As a matter of fact, I hope Obama and I debate a lot, and I'll get there early and we will get it on!"

"There are a lot of folks out there out there, I understand it -- there are a lot of folks out there that said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback. There are people that stood up and said, 'Well, he doesn't have the right throwing mechanisms or he's not playing the game right.' And, you know, he won two national championships and that looked pretty good. We were the national champions in job creation back in Texas."

He added: "And so, am I ready for the next level? Let me tell you, I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses!"

That remark was met by mixed groans and applause from the conservative audience.

A Masterdebator........and I'll "get there" early, just ask my wife.............Ya, we'll get it on.

The first casualty of republicanism is the truth.
Party politics are not only undemocratic, they are antidemocratic.

this debate is so soft and a big cheerleading event for being anti Obama.

BigBuck's picture

Watching this "debate", it seems obvious that the party platform is defined by Fox News. Not by anyone else.

Just STFU and go away, asshole.

Tebow wins in college because he has fast Black athletes to give the ball to. So far, with his 13 points a game, his professional Black defense has won him 7 games in a row. Make no mistake about it, this clown will never be Joe Montana, never happen. He won't be Warren Moon, he won't be Randall Cunningham, and he sure as hell won't be Doug Williams. When the euphoria wears off and defenses figure him out, he'll just be a quarterback with a bad throwing motion who gets driven into the dirt.

This shit drives me crazy, compare the face of this clown Tebow with Marion Barber at the end of the last game, Tebow with his 'thank you lord', Barber, a far superior athlete with his stunned look, and the media with its stiff wank.

Fuck Tebow.

One religious fraud comparing himself to another religious fraud.

Neither of those guys are as religious as they claim. If they were, they'd have no reason to express their religious devotion in pubic.

I would so like to kick both of them in their holy nuts.

I want Rick Santorum's body. For medical research.

just pathetic.

Is the animosity here towards a guy making the news in the NFL for positive reasons. What the hell is wrong with you people. You want more Vick and Hurd?

New_Damage's picture

I fail to see how a quarterback getting credit for winning games that were actually won through the hard work of his teammates and a little bit of luck—and then giving credit to The Flying Spaghetti Monster—could possibly be considered a positive thing.

Which stand-up was it who said, "You never hear a losing locker-room interview where the guy says 'Jesus made me drop the ball.'?"

Tim REALLY misses Japan's picture

They say that they are winning because of Tebow (and I have no dog in this fight, I'm a Vikings fan).

I can't understand why this guy is so hated. All he's done is win.

He's got an ugly delivery. Adrian Peterson runs standing straight up instead of bent over like most backs. Caused him to fumble a lot in his early career but no one ever doubted his success.

I hate to say it but I think it really bothers people that Tim Tebow is a Christian and a genuinely nice guy. Some people like their Christians all Pat Roberson and Jerry Fallwell so they are easy to bash on. Tebow isn't that way. He's just a good guy.

I root for him because he doesn't act like Terrell Owens or Chad OchoCinco. He leads his team, he is a leader in the community and he is a good human being.

The haters crack me up. And just so all you haters know, Timmy's praying for you. :-)

"Better." It's what we should ask of ourselves and of our leaders.

Tax the Rich's picture

Yes, Rick is comparable.

He completely sucks for the first 56 minutes and appears to not have a clue, only to somehow be able to pull something out of his ass in the last 4 minutes and win, thanks to the defense other idiot candidates keeping him in the game debate.

PTL!

If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.

...let's see how TIm goes when he is the ONLY one on the field...which he seems to think he is (oh, and GOD, too)

As well as praising God. I've never heard him give credit to himself. But don't let the truth get into the way of a good argument.

"Better." It's what we should ask of ourselves and of our leaders.

The Glenn Beck Review's picture

anyone who showed up on the Glenn Beck show? Santorum, Bachmann, the has-been (Cain) and Perry are reactionaries who want to impose Christianity (Dominionism) on the nation. This is especially true of Bachmann and Perry.

From context, I gather he's some kind of ball-chasing guy. I don't follow sports.

And I can pay no attention to politicians (and others) who talk in sports cliches. Anyone who talks about real life in sports terms isn't talking to me.

Rick who???

I'd say he's more the Anti Tebow. He's All hot air game, and Can't run with the ball.

Rick Perry is the Joe Theismann's tibia of the Iowa caucuses, and Michele Bachmann is Lawrence Taylor.

Well there goes the Cowboys fans vote. Probably not many Broncos fans in Iowa either.
