While answering questions before Parliament Tuesday, a man appeared to try to throw a pie in the face of News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch.
Murdoch's wife, Wendi, was seen throwing a punch at the man.

This behavior is wrong headed and it's too bad because News Corp--NOTW's actions are very serious and have hurt many people. Cable news will probably give this the usual tabloid treatment.
The highlights thus far are:
MP Watson kept refusing to let James Murdoch answer questions for his father. At one point, Watson said, “Your father is responsible for corporate governance and it’s revealing how little he knows.” The only question Watson asked James–which he didn’t really answer–was “I’d like you to tell me whether you told your father” about one of the settlements.
In a key exchange, Watson asked Rupert, “Mr. Murdoch, at what point did you find out criminality was endemic at NotW?” Rupert answered, “Endemic is a very wide word.”
In other exchanges, Rupert was stumped. On at least two occasions, he took more than 10 seconds to answer a question.
Another MP made a big deal about Rupert going through the back door of the Prime Minister’s residence. Rupert explained, “I was asked. I just did what I was told.” At one point, James tried to interrupt to explain the special politics of Murdoch going through the back door. Then finally, Rupert said (this is not quite a direct quote), I went through Mr. Brown’s back door many times.
Then he asked the big question:
Mr. Murdoch: Do you accept that ultimately you are responsible for this whole fiasco?
Rupert: No.
The happiest person of all so far seems to be Piers Morgan.

Mr Marbles, for such is his name,may have intended no physical harm but that doesn't mean he couldn't have caused any. If somebody lunges towards you with a "pie" do you have time to do a chemical analysis to determine it is whipped cream or shaving cream or something else? What would happen if he charged someone with a security detail? The consequences might be lethal for him. What if someone else gets hurt in a melee? I'm not suggesting Mr Marbles deserves any great punishment. A fine and a psych evaluation might be sufficient but there is the small matter of interrupting parliamentary business which he had no right to do and in consequence security will probably be increased and public access to such meetings impaired. He accomplished exactly nothing but making an ass of himself.

...You know, and I realize how horrible this sounds... I can't stand it when people seem very -suddenly- outraged over someone. From the conspiratorial web that has been exposed as the Murdoch Empire, this sorta thing has been going on a LONG time.
I don't know the details behind the "protestor," but if you're going to suddenly act indignant towards a person because he FINALLY is formally accused of doing what most people already assumed he did, spare me.
It rubs me like Casey Anthony did. There's thousands and thousands of murders a year, but people seem REALLY outraged over this one, and she's "America's Worst Person" for no other logical reason other than they were suddenly told to hate her.

There are very few firearms in Great Britain, and only a tiny number of the kind of handguns that could be concealed and smuggled into a Parliamentary hearing. You can't really make any comparison to what might have happened in the gun-crazed U.S. of Arsenal.

Whatever motivated this idiot, the advantage goes to the Murdochs. It puts this 'poor frail 80-year-old man' in a sympathetic light when he really doesn't deserve any sympathy at all. BBC commentators were saying exactly that within minutes of the incident.
And besides, it effectively shortened the hearings by a fair bit, leaving perhaps 5 or 10 key questions unasked.
