McCain blames Obama for partisan climate. He should look in the mirror
The responsibility for the most partisan atmosphere is Washington history goes to President Barack Obama, according to Sen. John McCain. "[Obama] said there would be a change in the climate in Washington. There's been a change. It's more partisan. It's more bitterly divided than it's been," McCain told Fox News' Chris Wallace.
A few Republicans have participated in crafting major legislation during Obama's first year in office. Three Republican Senators voted for the stimulus bill and Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe voted for the health care bill coming out the Senate finance committee.
But for the most part, Republicans have voted together to block Democrats' attempts to pass legislation more often than any Congress in history. On December 18, Republicans broke the modern-day record for the most filibusters in history, according to Campaign for America's Future.
John Amato:
John McCain is one of the biggest sore losers in all of American politics. The media for some insane reason gives him unlimited face time on my TV to bash President Obama who soundly defeated him and the conservative movement in 2008. When will the Villagers go after conservatives for being ideologically against this president and their efforts to block every piece of legislation is all for political gain. America is on the receiving end of their very destructive games. John McCain is a bold-face-liar for blaming Obama for the lack of that stupid word called bipartisanship.

But that's predictable. The Dems, "the party of the people," are in power and are enacting some extremely pro-corporate/pro-Finance/ Republican programs.
The illusion that Dems are fighting something must be kept alive. So, while Stupak and friends in the House attempt to restrict abortion access more severely than any Republican congress has done, and while the Senate attempts to give insurance companies the de facto power of taxation, McCain complains about "the bitter divide."

I always find it amusing when these guys go on TV and look like complete jackasses...Of course McCain would reason that partisanship is just part of the political landscape when he's the one pulling the strings and then turning the tables and playing the victim card when he and his team are the cellar dwellers.

Yes Mr. Bitter and Angry must bipartisan mean President Obama should support everything the republicans stand for even though he ripped McCain’s hide in the last election. Republicans saying they would not vote for healthcare even if a bill contained everything they wanted is hardly bipartisan
Well, now even Rush Limbaugh is echoing McCain. Why, just the other day I heard him say, "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran." Sounds like all of the assholes are getting on the same page.

There is probably no word that is so misused than PARTISAN is in America, where it means something entirely different than anywhere else in the English speaking world.
Republicans, conservatives and the media villagers would like you to believe that any difference in policy that differentiates one party from the other is some kind of political crime. In fact such contrast is essential, vital even to a functioning democracy. Without it, how are voters supposed to make their decisions?
When partisanship becomes a problem is when the party in power unduly exerts their authority for political purposes. Like say loading the Department of Justice with Regent college grads, or persecuting Don Seigelman. Or falsely exerting State Secrets privileges and powers of classification to cover crimes like the outing of Valerie Plame or the illegal invasion of Iraq. When government is the subject, you should not be aiming for bi-partisan, but for NON-partisan.
Long story short; partisan politics good, partisan government bad.

No, but I certainly agree with its premise:
My position is that the outrageous acts against (mostly) foreigners were done as a psychological desensitization program. The next step in that program will be to make Americans accept such crimes being committed on their own soil, against their own fellow citizens.
To quote John Donne, "Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee."
"In theory theory and practice are alike. In practice they are very different."
It needs to be repeated over and over again until it finally begins to stick in people's heads. This is the same tactic which Republicans are fond of using, after all...repeating the same message over and over again until it becomes a meme.
Conservatives and Republicans are the ones who are always pontificating about how important it is for people to take "personal responsibility" and acknowledge the ways in which they contribute to their own problems -- but when the excrement hits the spinning blades, they're just as quick as anyone else to point fingers and blame someone else. This is exactly what McCain is trying to do here -- he and other Republicans of the G-No-P are every bit as guilty as Obama and other Democrats are of contributing to the bitter and divisive nature of the political discourse in this country, if not more so. They know that just as well as we do...but the fact that they refuse to hold themselves accountable suggests that they don't really believe in what they say about the importance of taking responsibility. If they did, they would apply the rule to themselves as well as other people -- because the acid test of an ethical principle is whether or not people continue to obey it even when doing so doesn't bring them any particular benefit or even costs them. It's only too easy to uphold a principle when doing so is expedient or results in personal benefit...but if someone fails to obey the principle when doing so is difficult or comes with a cost, then it's not a true ethical principle. All it becomes at that point is an excuse and a lie, an exercise in hypocrisy which suggests that perhaps the only ethical principle which these people truly value is self-interest.
Never trust anyone who insists that patriotism requires you to blindfold yourself with the flag.
ill be using that. and your post is right on. great stuff. it does seem that all they do value is self-interest, as in political survival especially. whatever they can do to keep that cushy Senate job, they will do it. but at least McCain is right with trying to get campaign financing under control, but his boss, Bitch McConnell, never met a fundraising dollar he wouldnt accept. not that i want to give McCain much credit for anything. but at least that is in the right direction.

after losing the election in 2008. he became even more conservative, look at his voting record, and even more inflexible. hes right and everyone else is wrong, in other words. figures as Arpaio is a fellow Arizonan. i wonder if ol Sheriff Joe even voted for McCain. hmm.
yellowdog - You know these bastards like McConnell rail against "government healthcare." But, when that old son of a bitch needed open heart surgery where did he have it done? Bethesda Naval Hospital, one of the best, if not the best, in the world. Who runs it? The government. Fucking hypocrite. Didn't see him going down to a private, HMO run shit hole in Kentucky to have it done now did you? Same with McCain and his skin cancer and any number of these other fuckers. Yet they would deny the regular folks what they take for granted. Just who in the hell do they think that they are?
Isn't it amazing how Repulidicks refer to the CBO for this and that and how nonpartisan it is but when the CBO scores something in the favor of the Demacants the assholes like McCouldn't says that the numbers are gimicks. Here is one thing that McDidn't said and you decide if it makes sense.
In the first ten years the HCR does not kick in for 4 years so of course the savings are skewed. The CBO says it will save $150 billion over that ten years. It also says that in the second ten years it will save $1.3 trillion. Thaat is using it for the intire ten years as opposed to only six years but will save ten times as much money.
Another example of how disingenuous McDickhead is, he was asked what he thought about Obama giving himself a B+ grade for his first year. McShithead says Obama shouldn't grade himself. As if Obama is going around telling everybody he is getting this grade or that grade. Obama was asked a question and answered it. Maybe McGrandpa should try it once.

If you haven't read this report you really should. It is quite remarkable whaat these Republicans have accomplished.

The B.S. is so backed up in this fraud's body it is eaking out of his hair follicles. They have the temerity to pass out directions on how to delay and kill all Democratic legislation, even to the ridiculous extent of forcing the reading of 700 page amendments to bills that they know in advance don't have nearly the votes needed to pass; they vote en mass against every proposal the Democrats make, with not a single Thug voting with the Democrats; their media mouthpieces say their objective is to see Obama fail. How these hypocrites can spout such baloney without laughing out loud amazes me. And why the MSM talking heads let them get away with it amazes me even more.

I am in total agreement with John's statement. McCain & Palin are the WORST kind of sore losers in history. They have/will do anything in their power to make President Obama look bad. Funny, McCain didn't have a problem when W. bashed him and his family in 2000. As a matter of fact, McCain acted as though he worshiped W. after the nasty things W. did to him. Holding hands, birthday cakes, etc.
The GOP and their right wing mouth pieces came right out after the election and swore they would not work with the President. And they keep reiterating it over and over again.
I sure as hell hope that (other than the tea baggers) the voting public will remember this all along. This is one gigantic reason why the Democrats and Progressives need to show up at the polls in huge numbers in 2010.
First, the Republic Party base, and their supporters, are a mob. This is a group defined as "an indeterminate number of people whose I.Q. is calculated by dividing the total number of participants into the lowest I.Q. of any person present." Since they have a very loud voice (running most of the media is a great help), they can chant (as one example among many) "gonna pull the plug on Granny" over and over for as long as necessary. As one of their spiritual ancestors said "Tell any lie often enough and it becomes the truth."
Second, will people please stop expecting Senator McCain to take responsibility for anything? His (charitably) mediocre military and political careers have been based on "John does what John wants to do, and it's always somebody else's fault."
One of the few things that suggests G-d has a special regard for the United States lies in the fact that Mr. McCain is in the Senate and NOT the White House.
John McCain, Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel, Joe Lieberman:

mary b:Funny, "McCain didn't have a problem when W. bashed him and his family in 2000....." I almost puked when I saw McCain embrace W that one time. After what those bastards had done to him. That is the very definition of a sellout. And then that little episode of that idiot W dancing on the White House porch waiting for McCain to show up. Jesus Christ. Have these clowns no clue at all?
Isn't it time that everyone called John McCain for what he is? He's a f*&$%ing liar. Always has been; always will be. Oh yeah; at one time I thought he was an honorable guy, but now that I've seen him during his last campaign for pres and since, he has shown his true colors. He's a no good lout who doesn't deserve the attention given to a gnat. He should be swatted away like a little insect so that the real adults can get on with business at hand.
I've really grown to hate the guy, because he is just as two-faced as the rest of the rethugs.
The only thing that will save this country is for the Republican party to go away. I wish that someone would find that button to make it happen, and then push it as quickly as they could.
There are people hurting and dying out there, all because of the murderous republicans and conservatives who get us into illegal wars, continue to cause and propogate poverty and starvation, and cause to go without proper medical care when we most need it; all in the name of corporate greed.
These jerks are so full of it and disingenuous they can't remember if they are coming or going. how many times did they say they were going to do anything to stop the Democan'ts? What did DeMint say? They were going to make this Obama's Waterloo? All the stalling bullshit. Reading amendments and not sticking around to hear it. If the dumbass Democan'ts can't use this to their advantage than screw them too. The Dems should be out now or at least right after this thing gets passed reminding everybody, EVERY-fucking-BODY what these turds did to stop this (even though it is watered down and worthless as it is now). You know what Amy Klobuchar said today? She said when Medicare passed the polls showed that it only had 21% support or something like that. Now, today, the only idiot who would give up their Medicare is the dipshit Dick Army.

McCane did say that the Republicans were very partisan during the years they controlled the congress. The did not let votes go ahead on Democratic amendment to bills, refused to seat Democrats at hearings, made tax cuts during reconciliation, etc. The democrats need to have a backbone and really push their agenda.
The idea of having a senate was to get the best people from each of the several states and put them together where their civil, reasonable discussion of pending legislation would act to cool the ardour of the popularly-elected House of Representatives. It works some places, but with one party trying to be civil and the other knowing only how to say "no" and defend their obstructionism with lies, none of those places are here. The President and the Democratic leadership are trying to get back to the roles of the branches of government. It would seem both sides liked the Imperial Presidency when it benefited them. It is, admittedly, difficult to discuss anything with people who believe any tactic, no matter how dishonest or dishonorable, is justified. But one must try. Look where the Republic Party got us by insisting on absolute obedience. It takes longer to do it the right way, but it may turn out well in the end.
