Markos Moulitsas to Olbermann: Scarborough is 'such a loser host'
Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas Monday finally got to tell a television audience why he had been banned from MSNBC for the past year.
"Well, it seems your old boss had a little problem with me," Moulitsas told Keith Olbermann on Current's premiere episode of Countdown. "I was under the impression that you were in charge of your own guests, that you could decide who could speak on your show... Turns out Joe Scarborough has veto power over who can speak on everybody else's shows."
"I got in a little Twitter war with him," he explained. "Apparently I made him cry. He went crying to Phil Griffin, your old boss."
The "Twitter war" had begun after Scarborough criticized the media for not covering a story about the White House allegedly offering a job to Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA).
"Like story of a certain dead intern," Moulitsas tweeted, referring to the death of Lori Klausutis, a staffer working for Scarborough when he was a congressman in 2001.
"So, I found it kind of bizarre that the lowest rated morning show host in all of cable news at the only show on cable news that could crack Fox News' stranglehold on the top ten," Moulitsas told Olbermann Monday. "Yours was the most successful show, not just on MSNBC but one of the most successful shows on cable. Yet, Joe Scarborough, such a loser host, was dictating who you could talk to."
"Well, that's kind of sad story you just told us there, Markos," Olbermann admitted.

What particularly tickled me was how Keith presented the Moulitsas vs. Scarborough segment with a insiders-knowledge glee.
You could tell he'd been dying to skewer Scarborough and MSNBC over Markos banning for a long time, but perhaps the non-disclosure pact when he left MSNBC prevents that. Having Moulitsas himself tell the story gave Keith a way around it. Well played, sir!
Wish I knew how much longer Rachel Maddow has on her MSNBC contract, if Keith could get her to Current, I think she'd be even freer with her commentary. It's been a good gig for her at MSNBC for now with a larger audience, but I'm waiting for the corporate ax to start swinging again. Keith brought up some good points about the MSNBC editorial content being co-opted by their ownership by General Electric/Comcast and I feel it's only a matter of time before Rachel steps on somebody's toes and feels the wrath like Big Ed and David Shuster did. MSNBC did it before when they dumped Phil Donahue for the intern-killer Scarborough when they wanted to curry favor with the Bushies.

I didn't pay attention when it happened (at the same time as the Gary Condit/Chandra Levy scandal and immediately before 9/11) but I read through it this morning and had to push my eyeballs back into my head.
Pay attention to ...
1) The phone call Scarborough makes right after the death
2) The "medical examiners" report
3) The police report that was only released after a Florida newspaper ran an editorial demanding its release and ...
4) The coincidental timing of Scarborough getting his morning show.

It happened in Florida, so maybe Jeb Bush was involved somehow, or someone else with powerful connections? I mean, one doesn't just happen into such power as Joe now wields

Markos mocked Tancredo's comments about knowing what veterans want. Markos said that at least he himself was a veteran unlike Tancredo who was too depressed and got a deferment from VietNam. Tommy ended up storming off the set when Markos wouldn't apologize.

By the way, what is the possibility that David Shuster will be offered a posn with Current?
At the present time David Shuster is Keith Olbermann's backup host . Keith has mentioned there is to be a progressive news program at 9 PM following his show. Perhaps they might move David into that slot, at least temporarily as a place-saver should Rachel Maddow be induced to leave MSNBC. In the meantime, they could probably use David, who is a fine reporter in his own right, doing special reports in the field (hint: Washington).
Shuster was MSNBC's lead "breaking news anchor," and anchored prime time coverage of several stories including the death of Michael Jackson, congressional votes for health care reform, and the earthquake in Haiti. Unfortunately, he made an offhanded on-air somewhat derogatory remark about Chelsea Clinton in 2008 which got him a two week suspension from MSNBC, but that was NOT what finished him with MSNBC.
On April 6, 2010, MSNBC announced that it had suspended David Shuster for an "indefinite period" after they learned from press reports that Shuster and Michel Martin of National Public Radio had shot a pilot episode for a new show on CNN, without the knowledge or permission of MSNBC. I'm guessing David was feeling the same target on his back at MSNBC that Keith Olbermann later felt and decided to explore his options. Shuster announced in 2011 that he is seeking to launch a website for investigative journalism.
