Lindsey Graham: Public option has been dead 'a long time'
The White House ready to abandon the public option, according to GOP Senator Lindsey Graham. "I think the public option is dead. It's probably been dead a long time because the public is very afraid," Graham told Fox News' Chris Wallace Sunday.
"I think one thing we can say if the deficit matters, which I'm glad to hear it does, and the public option is unacceptable, then the house bill is dead, we should just throw it in the garbage can, because it's $239 billion added to the deficit," Graham said.

The only ones afraid of the public option are those who make so much money opposing it.
Not litterally but we should kill their careers! Send them home to try and make an honest living. I know how can a criminal make an honest living when the criminal lifestyle is all they know?
But we really need to rid out government of these insane criminals!
republicanism is a mental illness!
they can go home a make a honest living. That is an oxymoron when talking about them!
If there's no public option, many of them will die. They'll be on their death beds crying "COMMUNISM!!!"
The Pentagon "misplaced" $2.3 TRILLION and this pecker is worried about $239 billion.
Rumsfeld announced this hijacked jackpot the DAY BEFORE 9-11-01. Very lucky (?) for him it was buried the next day under the story of a mastermind Muslim we all need protection from, provided by - voila - the Pentagon. Talk about wasted money straight from that day to this one.
For those that didn't see it spill from the horse's mouth, here it is in living color: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kpWqdPMjmo
a wingnut telling the grownups what to do, a wingnut Senator telling the House what to do. Graham is such an idiot it's rather sad.
Linsay and his GOP Shams did not give a rat's a$$ about deficits, war spending, Wall Street gambling or New Orleans when Bush / Cheney were blowing every nickel on their "base's lifestyle".
Some professionals are estimating Bush's debts will reach $85 trillion by 2013.
some ppl made big bucks , ya know the old tinkle down affect ,
shezze some ppl .
every time you throw a little mud , you lose a little ground .
I don't remember one republican saying let's put the cost of the two wars on the budget for the past eight years. Had it been, the American people might have noticed the cost and questioned it. Nope, no one was concerned about cost of anything for eight years and now it's their biggest worry? Give me a feakin' break. Hey Lindsey, how much did it cost the tax payers for you to go rug shopping in Iraq?
I wondered this weekend, watching the tea baggers, how many of them was just one illness away from poverty.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
You realize how much of the federal military budget they get? Watch for both states to be hurting when the wars wind down.
Ironically most of the teabaggers I know are on VA, Medicare or TRICARE, the exception are the wealthy professionals (who still think they are invincible).
Since many are already on large, government-run, socialized medicine, they have no idea what you are talking about when you say "just one illness away from poverty". Yes, I know, the irony kills me too.
And Iraq is like an Indiana marketplace in the summertime.
has been to one too many bukkake parties at the Crawford Ranch.
before me.
Can't someone drag this phony hypocrite out of the closet for all to see his true colors? Those would be rainbow colors and the color of money for anyone still confused.
Lindsey,
You and your party already filled the can:
-3+ trillion over the next 50 years for your occupations.
-1.2 trillion in tax relief to the richest people in the country.
-Untold trillions lost on Wall Street, Real Estate, and tax income from workers now unemployed or underemployed.
-How about "No Child Left Behind?" What did we lost there?
So, Lindsey, if the garbage can is large enough to fit your trash, and it's now full, you're right, we SHOULDN'T throw Health Care Reform in there.
We can find a place for it where it can be used to help people. Or, are you mad that we're not going to throw the people in the trash with your debt?
does have those dead eyes , or is it just a souless thing ? .
every time you throw a little mud , you lose a little ground .
"The White House ready to abandon the public option, according to GOP Senator Lindsey Graham. "I think the public option is dead. It's probably been dead a long time because the public is very afraid," Graham told Fox News' Chris Wallace Sunday. "
77% in favor = public is very afraid.
'Yes we can!' on the public option = WH ready to abandon the public option
Methinks the almighty dollar is trumping truth and the public good.
How can any elected representative remain uncorrupted by the $m's they receive from Big Pharma, Big Insurance, Wall Street, and Big Oil? Why is this dirty business legal in the USA? In every other industrialized nation on the planet, corporate bribery (and that's exactly what it is) is considered to be a breach of public faith and a serious criminal act. Here in the UK, if any politician received 'campaign donations' from a corporation, they'd immediately be hauled up before the House of Commons ethics committee, sacked from their job, crucified in the press, and handed over to Scotland Yard's Fraud Squad for prosecution.
Just another case of 'Only in America' I guess.
Shameful.
know about the others here, but it's so nice to scolded by those outside the door. I've never, ever voted Republican and it won't ever happen. I don't agree with any of this. Let us know when you determine how best to fix it.
Maybe our friend ConcernedCanuck will chime in?
Captain,
Nothing says fun like being lectured/schooled by people that don't live here, as if all (insert country/people here) behave the same way, cuz all Columbians are drug lords and all British people have bad teeth and all Canadians wear plaid and hats w/ear muffs.......
and husband and wife identical T shirts while on vacation.
Afraid of what? The deficit is practically some mythological beast and it almost never seems to matter when the Republicans want to pass something.
Pass it. The amount is trivial in the long run and will save more in other areas. How about trimming it from the pentagon?
Margarine, it's funny how it is of no concern when they want to whip up support for a bogus war or reward the base with a generous tax cut, but feed some hungry kids or provide sick people with access to medical care and it's a problem.
As a group, they are long on hypocrisy and rather short on memory.
Dead a long time? He must be talking about the Republican agenda and ideals.
Why is this fool's attempt to create political reality worthy of a blog entry? Whether it is dead or not will have precious little to do with this twerp.
You are right. We have to stop advertising the thugs wishful thinking. It's time to get smart.
Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity. Albert Einstein
My interest in what Lindsey says died so long ago I can't even recall when it existed.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
How this nation can manage to elect into high governmental positions PIGS like Graham is beyond me. We certainly have NOT come far from the days when we used to force blacks to drink from separate water fountains.
I think it stung being called a demagogue.
Someone is lobbying him thru These Guys.
They are operating this page, as a command center.
And, it seems the ringleader of this push is up here in Raleigh. Oh surprise! I might talk to someone up here (or down here for most of ya'll).
in my case ;^)
I think there is a third too.
(edit - add)
Sen. Kay Hagan's Raleigh office, Tues. at noon. Anyway you could get there? Group going to support health care, invite is open.
They would never get any votes otherwise. The idiots voting for them are always voting against their best interest, except the greedy 1% of pigs getting their immoral tax cuts.
Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity. Albert Einstein
"Me and my fellow corporate shills have spent millions trying to scare your parents..."
$239 billion added to the deficit OVER TEN YEARS!!!! If the pentagon stops buying toilet paper it will pay for it. Graham probably spends that much on his damn tours of Iraq with his BFF McCan't. Have I ever told you how much I hate this POS?
continue. He deserves all the scorn that I believe you can heap on him.
One set of health care for wealthy congress people, one set for the rest of America. Kill the double standard.
Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity. Albert Einstein
And the 9/12 "march" yielded a crowd of two mililon. I'm supposed to believe THAT guy?
Not everybody trembles like a leaf at the pronouncements of a bunch of selfish hypocrites, thank you. What else ya got to sell, Lindsay?
*eyeroll*
There's always free cheddar in the mousetrap, baby. - Tom Waits
Why do these assholes hate real Americans? Why can't they grasp that fact that they are elected to HELP THE GOD DAMN PEOPLE, not the corporations.
We have this asshat claiming that he knows what the President thinks (more like wishful thinking) and down here at the bottom we have the ability to sign up for Ann Coulter's bat-shit crazy rants for free (I wouldn't read them if they paid me VERY generously and supplied me with a host of mind-numbing drugs to squelch the horrid images that were sure to come).
I think I'm going to vomit.
That is 90% of the problem. There are way too many idiots in this country who listen to Anne Coulter and that ilk. These people are so damn lazy they they can't even find out for themselves that Nazis and Socialists and Communists are all mutually exclusive. I could go on and on and on and on and on with examples of how stupid and lazy people are. For a better idea just read some of the signs that these jokers were carrying at their
million10,000 goober rally on Saturday.and lack of schooling was on awesome display, wasn't it?
I actually had a patient's family member tell me that Obama was going to give everyone on welfare a car (like he's Oprah or something). Before I could check myself, because my hospital is all about the customer service, I said, "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm as liberal as they come and I won't stand for it, do you really think that the people of America would allow that to happen?"
Don't you find, though, that even when you try to gently help them with good, solid, supported facts that they don't want to admit it? I find that many of them really have to hate on something/someone and FOX and the other shills (Limbaugh, et. al.)have made it acceptable, to this crowd, to hate on liberals and those they try to help.
Yes I do find that. You might try telling them that they are being used and manipulated. Give them some simple examples like calling Obama a fascist or simple a health care hypocrisy example. In general people do not like being used and maybe with one or two examples stuck in their brain may make them think. Probably not but who knows?
favorite health insurance nightmare story, stops them cold every time, shuts them up good.
I'm working as a nurse now, but have a long employment history, prior to nursing I worked for a pharmacy benefit management company and we managed a HUGE pharmacy program for a union's health and welfare fund. I personally worked on a case where a 10-year-old child completely used the $1 million lifetime medical max (that was standard with most policies at the time). This child had a congenital condition that medicine could maintain, but not cure. I became involved because the health and welfare fund was generous enough to try and help the family by re-routing expenses through the pharmacy benefit, which had no cap.
The child's parents were scrambling trying to find new jobs which would mean new coverage, but until that time the kid had no insured access to medical care and they made too much money to qualify for assistance.
I always ask the old shits that start complaining about "Obama's going to take my money," what they would do if this was their grandchild. The parents worked, paid taxes, had done everything they were supposed to do. Tell me, grandpa, what would you tell them to do? I let them know that our ICU beds are $6000/day, just to lie in and watch our shitty cable. What happens if grandpa gets t-boned at an intersection and spends a month in ICU? That would be $180,000 just to lie there, no medications, no scans, no lab work, no physician charges. If nothing else, I make them think and I don't have to hear any more about socialism or the uppity, young black man taking their hard-earned social security.
A bottomless pit of money for illegal wars but none for the health of the citizens. In civilized countries, part of the taxpayer's money goes to health care, but here, over half of it must be spent on the MIC.
This man brings out the worst in me, I just wanna slap him. His smarty pants attitude begs for a good slap.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
I know whatcha mean, but I'd be very afraid ol' Lindsey would enjoy it. For some reason I have zero problem picturing this clown in full diaper with a pretty pink bow in his hair getting spanked for being a bad boy.
Gaaaaahhhh!!! [Reaches for brain bleach...]
He probably likes bein' bitch slapped.
"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."
Like your brain, and apparently everybody else who serves S. Carolina, and the morons who put you in office.
Let us vote on it. Done deal.
What's up with South Carolina? Last night's open thread showed three things that came from that state and now throw Lindsey into the pile. Yeah, I know people wonder about Florida too, as do I sometimes.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
I lived in Florida two years. It think it's the redneck north from Orlando on up that is the problem. The rest of Florida is more like the the Northeast.
Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity. Albert Einstein
The panhandle is the reddest and it sort of fades the more south you go.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Are you saying the the closer to Alabama you get the more redneck you get?
Time damn near stands still the further north we go
I think the repubs remember how easy it was to scare Americans into supporting the invasion of Iraq so they think they can once again scare us into running from sensible affordable health care reform. Sadly, they may be right judging from the number of people I saw this weekend in DC.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
in which case you're fully covered.
Meanwhile, my head-injured youngest brother will be moving in with us.
He could afford either rent and food or medicine and medical care.
Eat a bowl of herpes, Lindsay. You too, McCain. May that which you inflict upon others revisit you a thousand fold.
Herpes! That's not a very good name for a cereal.
Sorry to hear about your younger brother Mick. Hope things get better for him.
hear about your brother. Thank goodness he has you. I see many people that are not so fortunate. Although he should be supported on his own, if things were as they should be.
There really is no other choice.
If only we lived in a civilized country...
Hang in there Mick. Hang in there.
The man in charge says a strong public option will pass
http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/09/14/harkin...
I love this man
not Finance. So either this is, wake me up when it is Senate Finance (Baucus) or ...
Wake me up and tell me what leverage the HELP committee just got on Finance?
But Obama in the last speech, and now Harkin have been saying public option with the non-blue dog adjectives in front of them. Obama also clarified the one statement we wondered if it was meant as a pointy reprimand for progressive caucus, was meant for the republicans.
They are getting the message right, and starting to look organized and coming back out on the offensive. Good.
been around longer than most, I believe him when he says it will pass.
He has been right in the past on most legislation I thought never would make it through. Got to give him the benefit of the doubt.
with the question about what kind of leverage HELP just got on Finance.
If you're right (and he's right) I think I may need to go make some popcorn.
Fearmongering scam artists. You'd think their base would resent being described in such cowardly terms, but they don't. They're always "afraid".
" I think one thing we can say if the deficit matters, which I'm glad to hear it does, and the public option is unacceptable, then the house bill is dead, we should just throw it in the garbage can, because it's $239 billion added to the deficit," Graham said.
Yeah, throw it in the garbage can, just like Graham and his party threw the Iraq War (between $1 and $2 Trillion added to the deficit) and the Seniors' Drug Plan ($1 Trillion added to deficit over 10 years) into the garbage can. Not to mention the Bush tax cuts.
Oops. Not.
IOKIYAR.
The House Bill is dead!! LOLOLOL..no...no...this from a man who's party has 40 whole seats! LOLOL...no..Lindsay..stop..stop...you're killin' me!!
"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."
What about that $2.3 TRILLION (or thereabouts) the Pentagon misplaced, lost, misappropriated, whatever, which Rumsfeld was going to announce around 9/10/01? The "distraction" we had the next day put that announcement on the back burner, like forever. (Sorry, I don't have a link, but I remember hearing about it then, and since.)
AND, where did those pallets of cash they were throwing around like footballs in Iraq go? How much was that? Is that accounted for...anywhere?
I think if we knew the real truth, we'd all start drinking heavily ;)
no one's paying attention to you anyway.
For the record, the Republican Party has been dead for a long time. It only appears to be alive because it's populated by zombies like yourself.
"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."
Since we never seem to have any money for health care, but think nothing of endless wars, why not call it the Lindsey Graham Anti Terrorist War Time Public Health Option and attach it to a big fat war procurement bill. Then, no one would blink an eye about passing it.
How's your Government Run Health Insurance Mr. Graham? That's what you call Southern Fried Hypocrit.
The "people are afraid" that we WON'T GET A PUBLIC OPTION because of Dems KISSING UP to these thugs AND they can Bring their 450 bus loads of PAID hacks to every event in the country and they will STILL be less than 1 PERCENT of the PEOPLE who OPPOSE THEM.
It took 450 buses bought and paid for by DICK ARMEY, who's REAL FEELINGS for those RUBES is well DOCUMENTED DURING WELFARE REFORM, and GLENN BECK'S 9/12 CRY FEST ORGANIZERS to get ALL their supporters to DC but it would take 10,450 AND MORE to have gotten ALL of those who WANT REAL HEALTH CARE REFORM INCLUDING THE PUBLIC OPTION!
It's REALLY HARD for INTELLIGENT PEOPLE to IGNORE Who's Spending the MONEY. And when this is all done and the SHEEPLE are left holding their worthless INSURANCE POLICIES, because THEY'VE been DROPPED FOR NO REASON or because THEY made a CLAIM after paying IN their THOUSANDS IN PREMIUMS, CO-PAYS AND DEDUCTIBLES and CAN'T get "government" help either, they will be CRYING IN THEIR BEER wondering how they GOT THERE. Dare them to come to ME for sympathy!
In the MEANTIME, those of us who WANT the Public Option, who outnumber the SHEEPLE 3 to 1, DESERVE TO HAVE IT! AND THE "I HATE THIS COUNTRY, I HATE THAT FLAG, I'D JUST AS SOON SPIT ON THAT FLAG AS SALUTE IT", (just some of the things heard by the Patriots in the bunch) CROWD, who's antiAmerican/unpatriotic/self-professed AMERICA HATERS should just LEAVE! Remember the MEME? "AMERICA! LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!" It's TIME for the America Hating Becks, Armey's, Limbos et al AND ALL their fruity uneducated bible thumping BS artist followers to LEAVE IT since they hate it so much they gather the worst of the worst of their crazies to shout that HATE from the rafters.
GO! You will NOT BE MISSED and MAYBE, the rest of us can put an END to war/fear/hate mongering NUTS once and FOR ALL TIME!
When they go on AIR one after the OTHER to ANNOUNCE THEY ARE "ordinary citizens who got HERE on OUR OWN", after the ANNOUNCEMENT HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE THAT DICK, "I hate all those unwashed masses of human flotsam" ARMEY PAID FOR THE BUSES YOU GOT THERE IN, your ignorance is truly on display on a WORLD WIDE STAGE! YOU EMBARRASS YOURSELVES, even when you don't have the intelligence to FEEL it YOURSELVES! You EMBARRASS THIS COUNTRY YOU HATE SO PASSIONATELY! Just make sure, when you GO that you TEAR UP your passport, your Social Security Card, give up YOUR "government run" Medicare and every OTHER PERK YOU receive FROM the U.S.
I am amazed that all of us don't run out of our houses and yell "What about the trillions this and other wars have cost/are costing us? You never hear these bozo congresspeople mentioning that when "worrying" about the national debt!!" Yet the minute one mentions reforming health care a gigantic roar of "It's gonna bankrupt us!" "Do you want your children to be swamped by a huge debt for the rest of their (and their offspring and their offsprings' offsprings' lives?"
I am so depressed these days. Thinking that a move to Haiti or Sri Lanka would be an improvement. It's a wonder we all haven't lost our minds and crawled into dark caves sucking our thumbs and drooling. How can one fight against this tidal wave of baloney by even the most mainstream news? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I'm so delusional that I thought I just heard that Tom Delay will be appearing on Dancing with the Stars!!! Wahhhhhh, I want my mommy!

from a personal experience THIS morning.
i am in Italy. i return to the United States in the morning after a one month trip to Egypt, Greece and Italy.
8:50 am this morning, i was loading the rental car to return to Rome from Calabria. the hatchback door slammed down on my forehead causing two gashes. one an inch and a half in length. there was blood everywhere. the hotel staff got me to the nearest hospital in 10 minutes.
Leonardo, the hotel's waiter, took me directly to the emergency entrance. it was now 9:00 am. in FIVE minutes the triage nurse had all the information from my passport and had Leonardo take me to an examining room.
it was now 9:05. the nurse in that room pulled the information from the printer, told me to follow him, put me on a bed. a very cute young doctor came in the room immediately, told the nurse to clean and disinfect the the gashes.
the doctor then stitched the wounds up with great ease. there was very little pain except from the needle. the nurse then applied a dressing.
it was all over with at 9:25 am! NINE-TWENTY-FIVE am. EXACTLY 35 minutes after it all happened.
when i went to give them my international medical insurance card, they waved it off. when i asked how much i owed, the response was:
NIENTE! - NOTHING.
oh, and i speak some Italian but in my panic i couldn't think of any of the right words except non capisco. no one at the hospital spoke English except for a word here and there. once i calmed down, they couldn't shut me up and they answered every question i asked, as best i could ask the technical medical questions, and i knew what they meant when they answered.
at 9:55 am - ONE HOUR LATER - i was on the road driving north on SS 18 with some of the most beautiful scenery any one would love.
if this had happened at home, i would have been in the emergency room for at least THREE hours and it would have cost me over $500 - AFTER MY DEDUCTIBLE!
the public option is compared to Socialized Medicine. i have friends who had the exact same experience in other countries in Europe. John Aravosis from AmericaBlog.com last month wrote about needing emergency laser eye surgery in Paris in August with the same result, but i think he said it cost him $35 dollars. and they billed him in the U.S.!
he's not a French citizen. i'm not an Italian citizen. [yet!] what would have happened to an Italian visiting the U.S. if this had happened to them?
you know, right now, i am ashamed i am an American. some may say this is unpatriotic or even treasonous, but we are the ones who are supposed to be the home of the free and the brave. the model of equality and justice for all.
what we are is being held back by a bunch of baboons and apes from the 19th century who are all old white men! who care about nothing and no one but themselves.
These GOPS with their 12th century mentality (feudalism and rights of kings and crusades against other religious groups) have already been placated enough. When the senatress from Maine announced that she was pulling out of negotiations, Linsie's prophecy came true. Now, either Linsie is prescient or else the Repubs have their chess moves well sketched out, so they know where they are headed: no bill, they win since the insurance companies go on doing as they please (and before long the health care industry will be 65% of our GDP, with profits comparable to the oil industries when they took advantage of the high cost of foriegn oil; bill without public plan, they also win because the insurance industry will have a windfall (did you notice where Warren Buffet invested recently?) with thousands of new insureds and fixed prices for everything.
Where are the trust busters now that we need them?
"Respect for the rights of others is peace." --Benito Juarez
it's the spineless dems that are the problem. who gives a rat's ass what a stinking, lying fascist rethug has to say about a goddamn thing? if dems in congress do what we elected the gutless wonders to do, then we will get the public option. until dems quit running like little biatches from these loudmouthed scumsuckers, we'll ALL be screwed. are you listening, you gutless bluedog jagoffs?
