Rush Limbaugh isn't endorsing Sarah Palin for president in 2012 but he says she's ready for the job now.
"One thing I do not do is follow conventional wisdom, and the conventional wisdom of Sarah Palin is "She's not smart enough. She needs to bone up on the issues. She's a little unsophisticated. Alaska, Where's that?, [She] doesn't have the pedigree,'" Limbaugh told Fox News' Chris Wallace. "She's the only thing that provided a spark for the Republican Party. This is not an endorsement, but i do have profound respect for Sarah Palin. There are not very many politicians who have been through what she's been put through and still able to smile and be ebullient and upbeat. This woman, I think, is tough," he said.

When did "toughness" become a measure of one's ability to be an effective POTUS? McCain's "toughness" did not get him elected as POTUS in 2008. Palin may be "tough," but she's also a NUT in every sense of the word, and one NUT will most definitely endorse/support another NUT.
Why did she quit being governor of one of the least populous states in the union, one that has one of the most socialist compensation programs in the country? Yeah, she's tough, all right. I mean I agree I would never want anyone who believed in all those things to be president but I think there are various levels of awfulness. The first Bush pretty much adhered to all those values except number 5 and while he was an awful president he was at least competent. We never should have gone to war with Iraq the first time either, but at least when it came time to decide whether to go to Baghdad daddy Bush listened to the people who knew and made the right choice.

It seems apparent that Limbaugh measures "toughness" on a different scale than I do. When the going gets tough, Palin quits. It's hard to imagine her directing a national political campaign which might require answering "tough" questions.
If Limbaugh falls in behind Palin, we'll either get her for the candidate in 2012, or we'll get a civil war in the GOP. Hard to say which would be more entertaining.

I've read most of the posts above and they call Rush an idiot, or they argue that he misunderstands Palin, or that he is good/bad for the Republican party. But everyone seems to miss that Rush is an entertainer. He has a radio show that pays him millions. And if his ratings go up. that show pays him even more millions. Rush did not go on Wallace's show for the sake of Sarah, nor the sake of the Republican party, nor the sake of Wallace, nor the sake of Faux News.
He went on that show as part of a marketing strategy for the Rush Limbaugh show. That's all. Pure and simple. And saying what he said about Sarah was meant for one result only. To boost Limbaugh's ratings. He probably prefers that Democrats stay in power because his ratings go up when he can play the outsider.
So Rush is far from stupid. He's a brilliant self marketer who could give a damn about Sarah Palin or the Republican party. He could even give a damn about the USA. Let's face it, civil war in the Republican party would be great for his ratings. And that, my friends, is who Rush is.

I'm reading a great book that I think most people who post here would find quite interesting. Its called Idiot America by Charles Pierce. He discusses the various forces for idiocy that have come to dominate American culture over the past few decades: anti-science, media like Rush and Fox that have no interest in facts only emotion, and really provides an interesting framework for understanding them and for showing how antithetical they are to the ideals that the founding fathers had for this country. It helps to make sense of how someone could seriously believe that a woman who was a failure as a small town mayor and then a failure as a governor could seriously be put forth as a potential candidate for president.
I just finished that book last week, and have been pushing it here.
My only problem was he never clearly set down what is idiotic conspiracy versus criminal (even political) conspiracy like that of Oliver North or G Gordon Liddy.
The only conclusion I could come to is that the idiotic conspiracy is also the conspiracy theory, which is open-ended, with no way of concluding it, or has some unprovable basis.
I also disagreed with him putting the Kennedy assassination conspiracy in the idiot box. To me there is lots of solid evidence that shows Oswald didn't act alone.
