Lieberman prefers 'nothing' to reform with public option

Sen. Joe Lieberman says that health care reform is important but not so important that he would vote for a bill that includes the public option. The "independent Democrat" blames those that insist on having the public option for his threat to filibuster health care reform.
"I'd say to the people who are all of a sudden making the public option -- a government health insurance company -- the litmus test here, they're stopping us from getting something done," Lieberman told CBS' Bob Schieffer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Lieberman also oppose the Baucus bill with no public option? It seems he's only holding up the public option now as a red-herring.

I am from CT.
I know lots of people who worked with Lieberman when he was a state senator in CT's General Assembly. The consensus back then was that Joe was out for Joe and Joe only.
The Democrats were a big tent party back then under the late John Bailey--who was the father of longtime Congresswoman Barbara Bailey Kennelly.
Party loyalty was of the essence in Bailey's time. Lieberman has turned everything that Bailey stood for upside down. If Joe was pulling this crap when Bailey was still alive and running the party not only would he be out on his ass but made sure he'd never run for nothing and win again.
Lieberman has always been a selfish prick and truth be told---nobody likes this guy...

It would be great for Joe Lieberman to go the GOP and let the Repukes explain that one to their very Aryan like base. It would be the best medicine for Joe yet. In CT, there is a mixture of voting measures. Some towns/cities you fill out your form and slide it through. Others have other forms of voting.
There is not to my knowledge the touch screens in CT, yet, anyhow.
To the best of my knowledge Lieberman is still registered as a Democrat.
Technically there is no such thing as "Independents" on voter registration data in the clerk's office.
People not registered with a political party are referred to as "Unaffiliated" voters in the clerk's office. Again, the media is factually wrong here.
Joe is affiliated as a registered Democrat.
Just like when the media still refers to Dick Cheney as the "Vice President" rather than the accurate Former Vice President Dick Cheney, yet these jerkwads are never called out for these serious factual mistakes. And they keep on saying such as if Cheney is presently the VP with "authority." The media need to be called out on these serious errors.
That would punish him to some extent, but he'd still be useful to the Republicans in business, anti-semitism is for idiots, white trash and staging propaganda among the latter. Most elected Congressional Democrats only gave Ned Lamont superficial support after he beat Joe in the primary.
Not everyone in CT voted for Lieberman. My hat is still off to the brave Democrats in many towns in CT who opposed Lieberman from Manchester to Enfield, CT. Without the brave Democrats in Manchester, CT who got the ball rolling against Lieberman and former Governor/Senator Lowell P. Weicker Lieberman wouldn't have had a challenger like Lamont.

The committee chairs are voted on by the members of the Democratic Caucus, and thirty members have signed a letter insisting on the public option in the bill. The same thirty Senators could vote Lieberman out of his chairmanship if he goes through with his threat. The question is would they?

I am not so sure that he would have been nominated or run and I think that as he would have had a much higher profile as VP there is no telling what people might have thought of him by the end of an 8 year term. But I guess we have to be greatful for small mercies of course the bigger mercy would have been that he finished his VP term and retired and been safely ensconced in high a rise corner office working for an INSURANCE COMPANY

Lieberman wouldn't have a soapbox upon which to grandstand were it not for mainstream media morons like Bob Schieffer, who ask no tough questions about Joe's conflicts of interest, and don't ask about the fact that Joe has changed his reasons for opposing healthcare reform multiple times.
Schieffer asks no challenging followup questions, and he helps Joe frame the issue in the most idiotic terms possible.
Schieffer also doesn't bother to ask Joe to explain how it is that countries with 100% government run health insurance spend so much less than we do on health care and get better outcomes.
Lieberman said the Public Option “came out of nowhere” and was not mentioned in the campaign last fall.
“The Public Option, I think, was raised in the last year, by people who really want to have a government controlled health insurance system.”
The "Public Plan" was part of the Democratic Party platform, but Joe was too busy supporting Republicans to notice.
