So far we've heard from Rice, Rove, Cheney and Laura in this past week regarding George's legacy. They all defended it saying he'll be well remembered. If his legacy is so safe and good, why does it need defended? shouldn't it stand on it's own merits? I guess if they weren't out trying to defend it he would go down as the biggest failure as president in American history.

They're right, history will judge Bush but it wont be good.

First Lady: Shoe 'Assault' Shows Freedom in Iraq

First lady Laura Bush said she was offended by the recent "assault" on her husband, who had two shoes thrown at him during a recent visit to Iraq. At the same time, however, she said the assault shows that Iraqis feel a lot freer than they did before.

"I know that if Saddam Hussein had been there the man wouldn't have been released, and he probably would've been executed," she said of the Iraqi journalist, who was arrested following the Dec. 14 incident and has been in custody since.

But under Maliki he's only been beaten, held in custody, tortured, and faces several more years of the same bad treatment.

Shoe throwing was an assault, but what about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis that have been injured / tortured / killed because of the war that Bush instigated? The shoe throwing incident seems rather tame relatively speaking. Laura needs to wake up to reality - if Karma has any say, someone throwing a shoe at Bush is the least of their problems.

I like to tell Laura that her husband has been assaulting the american people and country for the last 8 years. It is enough already and we wish he would leave now. The shoe thrower epotimized what most of his countrymen felt like and how Bush invaded Iraq for no reason.

But she stayed married to a man who increased the Texas poverty level, mocked people on death row, stole two elections to become president, invaded two countries resulting in the deaths of well over a million in one of them, overthrew the Haitian president, and continues to wreak havoc in the Middle East, where deaths from his actions will continue for a long time to come.

This is a man responsible for the deaths of literally over a million people and she's offended that someone threw a shoe at him. It's like saying the wife of Pinochet or Hitler or Franco was nice, when they could have done the world a major favor by at the very least revealing their husbands' secrets or even killing them. And yes, I think killing leaders is justified when the leaders are causing so much death and suffering.

Meanwhile, the shoe thrower who's being accused of assault is being tortured in US/Iraqi prisons within the Green Zone, tortured so bad that at one point he was made to apologize.

Laura Bush is a drunk driving killer. Literally. She was driving drunk when she was a teenager and hit her ex boyfriend's car and KILLED him. THAT'S an assault. Iraqis throwing shoes at Bush for ruining their country isn't assault...it's JUSTICE.

Bush is a foreign leader who invaded the shoe thrower's country. The Iraqi is in his country, he has been invaded by Bush. In the context of the shoe thrower, he was practicing self defense.

That being said, I believe that people with manslaughter in their police records, whether voluntary or involuntary, should SHUT THE FUCK UP regarding someone throwing a shoe. Which by the way, throwing a shoe in middle easter cultures is a show of disrespect. Poor Laura...George Bush has done more damage to Middle America than any other President. We are more hated in the world, there are now more terrorists abroad, he basically ignored Afghanistan, he campaigned he would not rebuild nations, yet he used taxpayer's money to do just that.
His administration has been as inept at governing as kindergartners would be. He spies on Americans, reads our mail and e-mail, taps our phones, obliterated some of the Constitution, implemented FISA, and lifted regulations that have thrown our country into the worst economic in decades. Laura your husband was a failure and he was completely irresponsible. It was his policies, authoritarianism, arrogance, illiterate staff, his greed for power and oil and his disdain for Middle America.

...throwing shoes hardly counts in the same category as acts intended to cause bodily harm. What's the worst that could have happened to Bush if the shoe had struck him---a black eye mabye? Probably the real reason that Bush family is angry over the shoe throwing (and the reason I am delighted over it) is because it dominated the news cycle and ruined the propaganda photo op of Bush's final Presidental visit to Iraq. Bush had just characterized his visit as a "goodbye kiss" to the Iraqi people, and the shoe thrower shouted out, "Here's your goodbye kiss, you dog!"

it was technically an assault. So is raising your voice under certain circumstances. I prefer to think of the first shoe as a tort and the second as a retort. Under civil law compensatory damages are awarded proportionate to the damage done. What's a bruised ego worth.
